Damn, this is legitimately enticing.
As someone who grew up on the Game Gear games on SADX before delving deep into the Genesis ones, I have a lot more memories of 8 bit Sonic 1.
My only real issue is the severe mood whiplash from Sky Base being replaced with Star Light.
Despite the limited hardware the Master System, it's pretty impressive how slogra managed to fit most of the assets from the Gens ver. of S1 into here in viewable compression.
It's kinda off-putting seeing Star Light Zone as the final zone, but I don't mind really considering it must require a technical know-how to alter the game's code.
Didn’t know you could get such blast processing on a 8-bit system
Overclocking on emulator?
@@hopetagulosI don't think it is as easy as that. Anyways it works on real hardware so...
The physics are the same as sonic1 8 bit @@hopetagulos
Time traveller: moves a chair
The timeline:
This looks really impressive for the Master System!
Description should say “Sonic the Hedgehog is a hack of Sonic The Hedgehog based on Sonic The Hedgehog”
&Knuckles
😂😂😂😂
This is very impressive-looking! It’s weird seeing, for example, Spring Yard Zone with water, but they still made it work!
It's a reskin of Jungle Zone.
that’s strange they should of made it like the megadrive version but they just used jungle zone and changed the background skin and music lol
@@haunteddeandollsukROM hacking isn’t that simple bro
Wow, this actually looks like the perfect middle ground between SMS Sonic and Genesis Sonic! Well done 👏
If this was what we had received back in 1991, our minds would have surely blown up.
this is what i needed all the time and didnt know.amazing work done there, really, its so beautiful and even my beloved special stages.Huge thanks for making this.
Now we need master system sonic on a sega genesis
Well, I'm working on it.
This is amazing, don't get me wrong, but I wish there were an alternate version that keeps the old Zones (albeit redrawn to fit the Genesis style) and Labyrinth and Scrap Brain Zone's themes from the original. I hope future versions add those Zones back in and make Marble, Spring Yard, and Star Light their own Zones.
Wow, this Sonic 1 Game Gear hack was amazing! It's actually all the levels from the 16-bit version of the game being meshed into its 8-bit format. What I really like about this hack is that the little special stages that you go into when you get 50 rings after completing one of the two acts is a recreation of the special stages from the 16-bit version where you have to get the Chaos Emeralds serves as a ring collecting activity taken from the original 8-bit version. Well, I was quite disappointed with the Chaos Emerald finding in the levels being similar to that from the original and that the Emeralds are blue. I expected that the Emeralds in this hack would be multi-colored just to give it that aesthetic touch. But all in all, pretty amazing hack!!!
This is really really cool, I had seen something similar with the fanmade Sonic 1 SMS Remake which had recreations of the Genesis levels in the style of the Master System levels, but to see them fully functional in a hack is on a whole other level!
Now, this is the best romhack of SMS Sonic 1 (2022)
Wow. This was done with minimal sacrifice. I think the main reason why this wasn't done back in the day because this would have taken much longer to fine tune than the actual SMS version took and they were on very tight schedules.
I totally agree one of the big reasons games were done with minimal resources but wanting quick output.
The retro has shown that if time and resources alot of games could have been pushed too their ultimate limit.
This is really good, but I think a YM2413 FM soundtrack should be added :P
I love to see this take but to make the original SMS game and stage look better like this.
The sonic 1 port on SMS is impressive anyway but this is a whole new level of impressive! Amazing stuff!
r.i.p. 8-bit Labyrinth Zone music :(
Sonic 1 on the Mark III and Game gear was a good but this hack makes it better
Mark III Es La Master System
Visually beautiful but the old man in me feels it has less character than the original. The 8-bit versions of the ost are fantastic though.
0:09 GREEN HILL
4:17 MARBLE
9:15 SPRING YARD
14:00 LABYRINTH
19:19 SCRAP BRAIN
23:41 STAR LIGHT
26:08 FINAL
27:05 SONIC SAVES SOUTH ISLAND
These 8bit remixes of the Sonic 1 music absolutely slap.
This hack is amazing. I didn't think it was possible to pull this off on SMS. I am utterly blown away. I hate to do it, but I do have to nitpick though: the inconsistent aspect ratio. It drives me insane. It's the same issue with Creative Araya's Sonic 1 SMS Remake.
You see, the original assets in Sonic 1 SMS were drawn at 8:7 PAR but stretched to 4:3 NTSC. Basically non-square pixels is the way the game was meant to be viewed, rather than pixel perfect. Of course, there are people out there who want that pixel perfect output, even if it = squished. To each their own.
The problem is SMS Remake and this hack offend both camps by mixing and matching the two aspect ratios, juxtaposing new sprites and level chunks at 4:3 alongside the OG ones at 8:7. So if you play the game at 8:7 PAR for that pixel perfect look, the new assets are correct but the original assets are now squished horizontally. If you play the game in 4:3 NTSC, the original assets are correct but the new assets are squished vertically.
Whoever made this hack should go in and redraw the new sprites and level chunks at proper 8:7 PAR so that people can have a consistent experience when they emulate it, either pixel perfect/squished or stretched/correct (whichever their preference is).
Edit: Eagle-eyed viewers will note that this game was uploaded at 4:3, not 8:7. Don't be deceived: most emulators remove NAB, aka padding, aka borders. Fortunately in some emulators, like Genesis Plus GX, NAB can be reenabled if you prefer. When you do, you'll immediately notice empty space added to the top and bottom (and a little to the left and right), which squishes the active area to something close to 7:5. When forcing GX to render the full signal at 4:3 NTSC + NAB, the rings, Eggman, springs, and other assets are now aspect-correct and no longer squished. Try this on the original Sonic 1 SMS and everything looks as it should, including Sonic himself. Try it with this hack and the new assets are all wrong, including but not limited to the redrawn Sonic sprites.
What's strange is that from the video, it looks like this hack has in some way redone most of the graphics in the game. This theoretically would mean that what you're describing doesn't happen, but Eggman here is still noticeably squished at pixel-perfect - by my eyes, he's actually more squished here than in the original! As for SMS Remake, I legitimately couldn't tell that any sort of aspect ratio mixing was happening, but I haven't seen the original with the correctly stretched pixels and I'm pretty sure some of the new assets in SMS Remake are recolored versions of ones from other SMS/GG Sonic games, something that this hack couldn't get away with.
they could reuse the Green Hill Zone and the unused Marble Zone music from the official 8-bit version for this game, but no, they decided to make their own renditions of those 2. thats pretty cool.
Still better than the GBA version.
Is there something wrong with this? Why are you comparing it to that trash?
Stolen comment
Or copied?
8-bit Sonic games are GOOD games to say the least. GBA version is just a joke.
@GoosyGooseMX Sonic Spinball had an 8-bit version and a GBA version too. The 8-bit version was way worse than the GBA one.
Keep in mind GBA Spinball was bundled with 2 other games.
is there a way to add loops to be more authentic?
Now my life makes sense! THIS IS THE REAL SONIC FOR MASTER SYSTEM!
Knew it was possible as soon as I saw the Sonic 2 title cards showing degraded Genesis images
Now this was a outstanding video game playing of Sonic The Hedgehog! 👍🏿👌🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
In spring yard, a hedgehog has fallen into a river!
They could have used the unused Marble zone music for the SMS
My dream realized!
I was ok with this up until spring yard because of one thing SPRING YARD DOESNT HAVE WATER IN IT!
A case of a really good SKIN of the game.
Now they need to do this in Sonic 2! Or even Sonic Chaos! The Master System gonna blast!
Curious if this would actually run on real hardware...
Sure it does trusth me
Better give RedHotSonic a call.
Starlight is what I like the most about this.
Why didn't they actually properly fix the layouts or boss fights or anything like that? Fancy graphics don't fix an entire game!
If someday time travel turn into a normal thing, this material would be a legend in the 90s. And SEGA it would be mad with it. LOL
The thing is... If I was talking serious, maybe we couldn't make any interference in it, even a good one. :/ Ps.: I love the original SMS version and don't have nothing against it. But this hack is really a curious thing.
All it's missing is FM Music
Now add support for FM synthesis and this would be a banger
This feels so correct and wrong at the same time... :x
Sonic 1 Master System 2.0
hello, which emulator is used for this? thanks for the video
epic
Awesome
*But does it work on real hardware?*
I misinterpreted it as Sonic Genesis for the snes.
Epic!
Que paso con starlight
Está después de Scrap Brain Zone
A little lame it's just a sprite edit, but whatever's welcome is welcome
Ты начил делать для англинам но я помню как ты снимал для Руско язычным людям.
It's beautiful
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wait you should play until this game is over?
Run in the everdrive?
Algo así habría quedado perfecto en el original también
0:01 AAAAAAAAAH
actually better than the original
İts all good until you realize they just changed the textures
lolol
that cut off on the title
Why did the original game look that shitty when it could have looked like this? I understand they developed both games at the same time and released the 8 bit version later.
STAR LIGHT DESPUES DE SCRAP BRAIN???
It's just a reskin of the whole game
POV: redhotsonic makes a bdiworh vid on this
