I smell a episode of "but does it work on real hardware" in the works...
b u t i s i t r e a l h a r d w a r e
@@the-noise. "well with the help of third party accessories I'm going to have to give this a partial rating"
considering its barely more than a graphics and music hack i'd say its kinda easy to tell
An episode*
@@capnkatie Simple graphics/music hacks have failed before.
Really elaborated and maybe not very probable theory:
Bridge Zone's layout doesn't look bad at all with Marble Zone's theme, lava and everything. So, maybe, the original design of the "Master System Marble Zone" wasn't too far from the Bridge Zone that we know nowadays, with ball fires coming out of the lava instead of piranhas coming out of the water. 🤔
I mean, the original 8-Bit Sonic did have have the Marble Zone theme unused in the files, so could be a possibility!
@@KingdomHeartsFan-mu9cf It weirds me out that they didn't use that version
theres a PC remake of sonic 1 8 bit that has a fully fleshed out playable marble zone. Its turned off by default because its kind of not fun at all but it's there. You can also unlock 5 characters and play as super sonic too
@@RushJet1 It's designed to sound like a direct 1:1 rearrangement of the Mega Drive version. Yuzo Koshiro's versions are more like covers.
@@RushJet1 as far as I can tell Sonic 1 from Master System/Game Gear was supposed to be more of a port of sonic 1 from Genesis rather than its own game. They probably scrapped Marble Zone because they either didn't know how to properly demake it for the MS/GG, wanted to create more original zones instead of just porting the ones they already created for the Genesis one, or because it would be way too complex to create all the effects the original Marble Zone had, so instead they created Bridge zone as a last resort sort of thing, which explains why Bridge zone is so boring and feels rushed, with an even weirder gimmick of the camera moving on its on in act 2.
Wow, this is a beautiful looking Sonic hack.
The aesthetics of this hack are phenomenal. Don't get me wrong, I love the original Master System game, but this blows it right out of the water and makes it even better.
Imagine How this would look like with game gear's big palette
Better? Not musically imo
@@troywright359 no, but it IS interesting to hear the OST in the SMS/Game Gear soundfont...
Well, the NES/Game Gear version gets points for complete originality in my book and it'll always be my personal preference, this does play very well when compared to the Game Gear/NES version
@@youkai3785small correction, the sms/game gear, genesis etc don't have a soundfont, they use a chip that plays music in real time using more complex instruments than samples
This is gorgeous. The only really odd thing seemed to be having Star Light be the last level. I get it, given the level it's replacing, but it still seems weird.
But then it goes back to scrap brain zone for the final boss
Now imagine combining this with the OPLL FM expansion version of the soundtrack someone did recently and omg, you have something even closer to the Genesis version.
Hell yea
Two things:
1. Make the the reversed version(sms version on genesis)
2. Sonic sprite looks like the one from tts version
Not really no
He doesn’t make the mods
2nd one doesn't make sense.
@@ssf1389 thats what im sayin lol
I'd love to see the sms zones updated genesis style, even just bridge zone would be amazing
I've played both versions on each console in the 90's, first on the Mega Drive, then the Master System and each version has it's own identity, the music on Bridge Zone was composed by Yuzo Koshiro for this version and it's a great song, should not be erased of forgotten. but still a great job!
Ironically the red springs bounce lower than the yellow ones (in special stages), you should be a true Sonic Fan to understand what's wrong
Yep. That's right.
i noticed it when i recorded it
I do, apparently it happens on the original 8 bit sonic 1 too, it seems that the person that did this Rom Hack didn't notice that when editing the sprites
If it was for me, i would edit the yellow springs to be red, and the red springs to be yellow, so it's more consistent with the 16-bit Sonic 1.
The red spring is supost to be higher then the yellow
Ewwwwwww red springs always bounce higher!
The continue boxes in the special stages look like they have a four letter word beginning with "C" on them
The Jungle to Spring Yard transformation was impressive
The idea of having water in Spring Yard Zone works remarkably well
I was hoping someone would hack the Master System Sonic 1 to look like its 16-bit counterpart... and it looks every bit as amazing as I'd hoped!
This looks amazing I love how you were able to recreate the 16bit version of the game also love the 8bit musical renditions of the zones that weren't in the oringal normal version of 8bit sonic 1
Hopefully something like this gets made for the 8bit ports of sonic 2 and spinball as well
SN76489 SUPREMACY!
8 bit port of sonic 2? try sonic 2 ld
I"ve grown so attached to the Master System version of this game that seeing it looking and sounding like this puts a smile and a frown on my face at the same time.
The original music of which is so deeply rooted in my brain that listening to Spring Yard, Star Light, Labyrinth, the Boss theme, and the Special Stage gave me two reactions: One was "Oh, they really went the extra mile and made the conversion" and the very next was "Oh boy, what have they done to you {name of the original zone here}". These were the cases with those themes and Scrap Brain.
Still, it's nice to see the effort to bring the Sega Genesis Look and Feel of the game. Honest Oppinion: while people think that this should've been the released version, I much prefer the original. No hate on the 16-bit take, I also love the Genesis game, however, I grew up with the Master System, and had no Genesis to play until via Emulation on a computer.
I understand your reasoning, but as someone who started with the Genesis version, it makes it somewhat difficult to remember that the Master System version didn't originally have these zones, and it makes me happy to see all this when I actually do remember that. These demixes and resprites bring back a lot of nostalgia to me.
I was impressed with the look of the Green Hill Zone, it's very beautiful!
This is beyond special! Nice work
Very good! Thanks for bringing this video to us.
This looks absolutely beautiful! A childhood dream come true! Thank you!
Looks amazing! I think you can add parallax by moving the background sprites in slower speed as sonic moves.
This is absolutely incredible. Way better than anyone could have expected.
Pretty impressive! It would be even better with a YM2413 FM soundtrack option :P
This just highlights how much I love the original levels and songs in master system sonic.
You gotta love how very well replicated the graphics and even the music is to the Genesis Sonic 1!
If this was a pack in title for the Master System in 1986, it would've given the Famicom some serious competition. Unfortunately most SMS games looked like polished up NES games, even Sega themselves cared little for it.
It's amazing. As a small feedback, it would have been great if the arrow monitors would have been replaced by posts. But that's probably very hard.
I needed this.
we needed this.
That is an absolutely neat idea, although admittedly seeing water in Spring Yard zone seams weird.
Through out the video sonic has been jamming to the toons.
Color work is very impressive here ! Green Hill looks almost identical to the Genesis version !
*This was so Cool!*
Darn It, They Got Scrap Brain And Star Light Backwards Again!
Awesome! Now add the FM sound patch to this and you have the perfect Sonic 1 for the SMS. 😃
12:04 River Yard Zone
The fact this could run on the master system is astounding! I was expecting it to burn down in flames
It doesn’t look quite finished yet but I respect the effort put into this. It sure many others have pointed out what changes would fit better. My suggestion would be to take the 8 bit game and retool all the assets with the 16bit game and use the MD/Gens music. Other than that it’s a nice looking game, well done
I mean , this works on real console , so if they do that , it wont probabily work on the game gear ( for the music part )
Otherwise , i agree
I said it because many sonic games on the game gear have loops ( except for sonic 1 ) so yeah , and also do some changes on the map to made them more acurate to the genesis version of the stages
That's what they did?
bro just completely destroyed the master system's limits right at the title screen...
I adore that 8 bit remix of Spring Yard Zone's theme!
Outstanding stuff 👏
Star Light Zone with deadly star lights!!
This looks so impressive for the Master System, I love the original version for the 8bit consoles, but seeing this I could see that the Master System was capable of so much more.
I would like to hear the soundtrack of this game, even more, the final boss theme.
Very interesting how you kept Star Light's prototype style, rather than the 'fully-built' appearance from the final.
I bet it would look really interesting to do the reverse with the Game Gear unique titles and turn them back into Genesis/Mega Drive games, kinda true of the unique Master System Disney titles too - which might be feasible with the Donald Duck The Lucky Dime Caper (for example) one as their sprites could be borrowed from Quackshot in a lot of cases. There was also some things that were tail end of some of the consoles that didn't even see wide release globally - which I expect many people wouldn't even know exists or have had the chance to play without emulators.
I wonder if this would run on real hardware. 🤔
I like this a lot, imagine having this back in the day, would have been fantastic and I liked the orig sms game
There's something very different, I liked the changes in the sprites and the songs in general, is it possible for a version with the original level design too?
but the level design is the same, only thing modified in the game is the sprites and songs
@@TheHedgehogest Original level design from the Genesis
@@ablobu A
maybe in the future, its still a demo
27:56 that was a nice unintentional musical sync
Fantastic !!
wow that first stage of marble zone actually looks fun.
Neat concept!
That delayed invincibility at 22:43 be like:
I think the original version of the game started development during development of the genesis version as Labrynth and Green Hill use assets that are similar to unused assets found in the genesis version (referring to brick walls in Labyrinth and yellow boarders in Green Hill)
I thought this day would never come...
Okay here's my controversial opinion. 8-bit Sonic 1 & 8-bit Sonic 2 were the best out of all Sonic games for chaos emeralds. Having them in the levels was so much more fun than having to get them in bonus stages, and their placements were often quite clever.
It has a Sonic Mania fell to it that i can't explain how... 🤔
SUPERB Hack!!! Congratulations!! Please, tell us If you ever Make a FULL COMPLETE SMS Sonic 1 Zones, It will be SO Great!
Im Sorry, but i LOVE so Much BRIDGE, JUNGLE & SKY BASE Zones, as well LABYRINTH and SCRAP BRAIN SMS/GG OST Themes Versions
I knew that someone would probably make something like this
hey friend :)
@@MaxNovOfficial hi lol
it was probably just a matter of time
Oh wow this master system sonic look so smooth
Spring yard with water,good mix.
I love the SMS version already but this is a beautiful hack
And stage clear theme is perfect
Did you know Marble zone was gonna be in the 8 bit version in the files you can find an 8 bit remix of marble zone and there's sprites in the code of the bat enemy
4:50 marble zone was going to be in the final version of sonic 1 sms
This is what I imagined sonic genesis looking like in 8 bit form
This is... PERFECT!
This made me realize I prefer the Chaos Emerald jingle from the Master System version
Awesome!
Fun fact: Originally, the story goes that the 8 bit game was meant to just be an 8 bit port of the Genesis title.
The music needs the fm hack treatment but fm versions of these songs in this hack
WHAT THE FUCK, HOW?!?!?!?!? THIS IS HUMMER TEAM LEVELS OF IMPRESSIVE
So...does this make it an up-make? Since Sonic 1 8 bit was a demake of Sonic 1 Genesis?
Why did you put star light zone as the last level?
the lost marble zone is added to this mod also keep the videos going
Ironic that the SMS game was actually better than the Genesis version
Nice troll attempt 👍
@@genesislives772 no I am serious. A lot of people consider the first sonic game on the SMS to be more enjoyable
I enjoyed the premise until you got to "Bridge", then after skipping through, I don't see Jungle, instead a mashup of Springyard, so not a good Port of the game. EDIT: I feel silly now, I got the title mixed up, I thought you ported Mastersystem to Genesis, you done it the other way around, now I see the work for what it is, and it's a GOOD port.
Holy shit this is amazing
Honestly I can’t believe they didn’t put starlight zone in the original game gear game but they put labyrinth zone that should be a crime in itself
starlight is in sky base
@@TheHedgehogest I Meant In The Original Game Gear Version Not This Hack
Sonic 1 8 bit how you remember it from your childhood
Love this ❤️
The Sonic sprite definitely looks better!
This really needs a flashing lights warning for Star Light Zone.
in my opinion, they should have used the unused Marble Zone theme found in the Sonic 1 MS game files
that's gorgeous 😍💥
I like this a lot, imagine having this back in the day, woukd have beeb fantastic and I liked the orig sms game
Imagine if they reordered Starlight and Scrap Brain so it would be more accurate
Garfield on PC is a good game.
this looks like sonic spinball for the game gear....
If the boss music was the same this would been perfect
I wanna look for some OST 16-bit game in the 8-bit style like this.
This is very impressive
The Master System Version Was The First Sonic Game Ever Played In History.
This is pretty dope! The best part honestly is the musics. I always wanted to learn how to make 8 and 16 bit music, anyone have a tip how? My 'dream' is to remake certain ones like Triple Trouble and Chaos and Mania music on 16 bit format
6:26 JUST GIVE ME THE EXTRA LIFE BOX
Emeralds were blue in Spinball, Initially Green in STH SatAM Archie Comic
First the 16 bit remake of the Master System version, now an 8 bit Demake if the Genesis version.
You should have made the checkpoint monitors lamp post ,missed opportunity
yeah yeah this is impressive and all but does it have the most important part of sonic 1, the spike glitch??
happily not
Nice!
I thought the title was simply "Master System Sonic 1 But It's 100% Based" for a second there.
Master System Sonic 1 is already based tough
Wow so awesome 😎
There should be a genesis rom hack where the game is based off of the master system game!
Meh. I'd say more 75%, considering the special stages are different, and it also feels like the stage layout is different too. 🤓🤓
man I miss this game
