Nate, I want to say on behalf of listeners and metalheads around. That as long as you keep making episodes on this podcast, we'll keep watching/listening. You come off as a very down to Earth guy, someone who can just chill out and go to a show with. Shoot the shit about favorite bands, drum sounds, and riffs. I'm glad to see this podcast has helped someone else with depression or sobriety. Whatever it may be. You're a fucking living legend dude.
Appreciate that, doc 🤘🏻
Favorite part of Tuesday morning is listening to this, drinking coffee, and drawing. Hope your back and neck start feeling better soon Nate!
I agree with your comment on goals. Setting goals based on outcomes determined by other people (getting on this festival, getting signed by this label) is a sure way to be disappointed and discouraged. All goals should be based on things within your direct sphere of control imo.
Getting to play with Napalm Death and Barney letting me sing Dead was awesome.
Love the new Wraith album! Sounds like I need to dig into Laceration too. Hopefully you can interview Chase from your old band sometime soon since that new Gatecreeper album rips.
Retribution was on of my first introductions to Death Metal. Along with Butchered at Birth, Necrotiscism and Leprosy. Those albums are absolutely BRUTAL! CHEERS BUDDY!!!
Amazing intro to death metal, love all those records. Mine was Retribution, Spiritual Healing, Jester Race, and None So Vile. Then Kill came out when I was in high school, right as I was getting into Cannibal. Grateful for such a solid foundation of extreme music!
@@BornTooNate dude that is why I loved those Cannibal and Malevolent records with Rob Barrett. Big Riff Energy indeed. I have a question man: What is your view on the Eternal album by Malevolent. I honestly don’t think that album gets the recognition it deserves. I had the honor of seeing them on that tour in a super tiny bar in Austin. Crushing!!
Speaking of Nectrotisism, thought Carcass would be on Nates grindcore list, although the stuff I like from them isn't really grindcore but they def get lumped into that genre
I prefer the albums that feature Rob Barrett and Brett Hoffman, and that don’t feature dudes screaming the n word 😂
@@BornTooNate 😂😂😂 True!!
Love the shoutouts for my homies in Laceration. Those dudes work hard at their craft and they deserve the accolades 🤘🤘🤘
Interview coming soon 👀
Hell yeah, love me some Wraith. Undo the Chains was one of my favorite albums of 2021.
Folgaust II probably the most underrated metal vocalist ever. Solent green rules! Paralysis-patrons of the dark and pussysoul are some of my favorites from his endless contributions!
I used to do a zine and trade tapes in the 80s. Your show does have that aesthetic. I appreciate your honesty and good intentions. I got to see Malevolent with Demolition Hammer and Devistation in Ft. Lauderdale in 92. I was in the Navy on liberty and brought some of my crew. What a fucking blast.
Just picked up the new Wraith. Saw them a couple years ago on the Undo the Chains tour at a small festival in Youngstown. Stole the show there too. Don’t have a lot of time with Fueled By Fear yet but Undo the Chains is a near perfect album.
It warmed my heart to hear you mention Alex 'The Brutalizer' Marquez, Nate! 👍; Much like Rob Barrett, I have yet to hear an album that didn't benefit from having this dude on it, whether it be albums from Malevolent Creation, Demolition Hammer, Solstice, Ressurection or Divine Empire. Awesome drummer; one of the best in fact! 👌
The man is a BEAST
@@BornTooNate Speaking of drum beasts in relation to grindcore, I recommend the album 'The Inalienable Dreamless' by Discordance Axis. If you don't know them, they have Dave Witte on drums; an absolute beast too. Amazing album, don't let the serene cover art fool you, the music is bonkers!
Love Witte and all his bands. All time great drummer and great guy.
@@BornTooNate Indeed! A couple of the albums he made with Burnt By the Sun back in the day, are also personal favorites of mine.. 👌
Retribution is definitely top 5 death metal records of all time for me. Some of the stuff with Jason on vocals sounds like Sepultura Roots. I do really like Envenomed a lot, Homicidal Rant is one of their best songs.
Envenomed is either my 2nd favorite or tied with Retribution for #1. Hard to beat Retribution though, one of my favorite albums in any genre
Couldn't agree more on Retribution. Exactly how I feel 🤘
Seeing Soilent Green must have been such a spectacle back then. They scratch so many itches with the genre jumps! Truly one of the best bands to ever do it. If we get more material someday I will shit a brick.
Unrelated to the topic but you’re a looker. And that’s coming from
A devout hetero male metal fan. You must do well with the ladies!
Ps. Love midnight!
Great show Nate, Thanks!
Still can't believe you like Sabotage more than Sabbath bloody Sabbath but to each their own lol! Great listen again, thx!
SBS may actually be my preferred album these days, but there’s something about the high points of Sabotage that is totally unmatched. Those are my two go-to sabbath albums these days, and have been for a long time
@@BornTooNate ya Hole in the Sky and the second half of Meglomania absolutely rule. Ozzy just went a bit wild with the intros and shit on Sabotage and kinda throws me off.
The "no judgement" "all due respect" takedown of nu metal fans was awesome.
Nate, did you ever go into the whole JDwag not showing up for the interview? I dont think i saw anything about in the last few episodes.
I’ve had bigger fish to fry but so many people are asking me about why that dude sucks, maybe next full episode I’ll remember to give my thoughts on that overinflated coward
I just found your channel, but I’m liking your content. Got a sub from me.
I see that Fluance RT85…such a solid affordable turntable. 👍🏻
PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE TELL YOUR STORY WITH DAVE MUSTAINE
Ok
love that sexy BLACK BEAUTY LESPAUL CUSTOM of Cathedralic Gothic Honor sitting there
one of my personal dearest Guitar in History
well also huge SG custom lover as well ab anything that resembles Doommetal badassery
Yes! It’s the heaviest guitar ever made
only flaw and the damn 4th string getting out of tune too damn much
but that is why i tend to play with my Black SG a bit more when i play out'is just more slick
Fair enough re nu metal, for the most.part I wholeheartedly agree, it's terrible on the whole. However, and I am not saying I endorse this at all, but. often I see Deftones lumped into this god forsaken genre, and to some extent System of a Down. Admittedly, I am more defensive of Deftones than SOAD, but still think they don't deserve to get lumped in there, thoughts? Also, hoping your injuries mend soon, bro!
I never got into Deftones, saw em once and hated it. But they’re definitely not as deplorable as nu metal. SOAD I feel similarly, their first record is incredible for what it is. Really unique, creative, meaningful stuff even if it’s not my exact cup of tea.
@@BornTooNate Personal taste is a funny thing, personally, Deftones has always been one of my faves so I hate when they get lumped into numetal, ironically it was me lumping them in there sort of, but that is an annoying tricky thing about genre talk, i kinda hate it tends to make miscommunication inevitable, when everyone is defining their terms slightly differently. It's all good of course that you don't like em -absurd i should even feel the need to type that , ha!) you're still a badass in my book and. we share a helluva lot more commonalities in taste than not it seems, was just curious if you had also lumped them into that garbage bin genre. Will content myself thinking you dislike them for other reasons What makes the world go around and what not, onward!
What did you think of Gojira at the Olympics?
METAL AS F*CK. I haven’t listened to them since the whale record came out, but yea that absolutely ruled.
