  • With The Expanse Season 6 starting to stream on Prime Video tomorrow, I recently got to speak with Steven Strait and Dominique Tipper about making the final season of the critically acclaimed series. During the fun interview, Strait and Tipper talked about why they wanted to close out the series on a strong note, what the final season is about, how they shot the first and last episodes at the same time, how it was an enormous relief that they stuck the landing, what it’s been like portraying characters that have changed so much during the course of the six seasons, why they both didn’t “borrow” stuff from set, and more. In addition, they both revealed the most challenging stuff they had to shoot over the course of the series.
As I have said too many times to count, The Expanse is one of the best series airing on any channel. Over six seasons, the incredible sci-fi series (developed by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and based on the novels by James S. A. Corey) has used the genre of science-fiction to consistently deliver complex and dynamic storylines that are unlike anything else on TV. I cannot recommend this series enough. The Expanse also stars Wes Chatham, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Cara Gee, Frankie Adams, Keon Alexander, Nadine Nicole, and Jasai Chase Owens. The Executive Producers are Naren Shankar, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Sharon Hall, Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, Daniel Abraham, Ty Franck and Dan Nowak. Shankar serves as showrunner for all seasons. The Expanse is produced by Alcon Television Group.
In The Expanse Season 6, the solar system is at war, with Marco Inaros (Alexander) and his Free Navy continuing to launch devastating asteroid attacks on Earth and Mars. As the tensions of war and shared loss threaten to pull the crew of the Rocinante apart, Chrisjen Avasarala (Aghdashloo) makes a bold move and sends former Martian Marine Bobbie Draper (Adams) on a secret mission that could turn the tide. Meanwhile in the Belt, Drummer (Gee) and what’s left of her family are on the run and hunted for betraying Marco. And on a distant planet beyond the Rings, a new power begins to rise….
Watch what Steven Strait and Dominique Tipper had to say in the player above and below is exactly what we talked about. The Expanse will continue weekly for six weeks, with the series finale on January 14, 2022. If you can't remember what happened in Season 5, you might want to read our recap.

The actors have all been so professional in their roles, and believable... they'll be able to look back and be so proud of what they have achieved. I'm just sad that it's all over at the end of season 6 but at least they will go out strong...

I don't know if the people involved with this show truly realize what a unique wonderful show they have created. I 'stumbled' onto it, watched the very first episode years ago - and was sooo hooked I was beyond a fan. I've watched a lot of sci-fi, but I'd never seen anything like this show. It took off like race horses, gangbusters?, a rocket ship? It wasn't just explosive action - which it had, it was also an incredible cast. As each member was introduced I'd never encountered such a well cast selection. Real personalities. The sets, the stories, the 'new-ness'. I was amazed. There were scenes that made me laugh, that truly made me cry... which surprised me, as, I've shared, I've watched a loooottt of sci-fi. This show had real emotion. / I was very pleased when I learned the founder of Amazon was also a fan, and had the funds to continue it beyond the original final season. But, and here I'm biting my lip a little bit, Amazon's 1st season was a bit slow - go through a ring, which offers bounteous amounts of planets and alien experiences, and be trapped inside a cave most of the season... I was somewhat disappointed. But nothing, and I mean nothing, and that includes even one of my fav characters on the show almost going permanently blind, will diminished my passion for this series. And, I must take my last sentence back. I have no favorite persons in this show. Each, and I mean each, is incredibly cast, and truly fills out this unique and wonderful series. I wish Elon Musk would now pick up the series, include some of his star trip wishes, and continue this show onward for several seasons more.

The shows that end perfectly I never get sad about being over. It's only when they botch it that I feel cheated. I have every faith that The Expanse crew will get this one right.

Wow ❤ Steven Strait really is like the soft, sweet center of James Holden. He does his character so well. Such subtle but clear choices that change his demeanor on screen. 👏

What would you steal from set? a protomolecule sample. The hand module. The sign inside the Roci that says "legitimate salvage"

It's still weird to me that every time I see Holden, I am like: "that's the guy from Sky High."
