There were a lot of hard fouls on him in his first few years in LA by guys making a fraction of what he was. Ultimately, his contract led the league to loosen spending restrictions which helped increase salaries and improve the quality of play across the board.

Most “Catlin Clark fans” are not really fans of her they seem to use her as either a political pawn, push some narrative, or like her because other people do. Most of them fans can’t tell you what she good or bad at what she needs to develop. It just feels like most of her fans who ( are white ) only watch her because she is white.
I'm not a new WNBA fan, I'm a NCAA Womens basketball fan following the players I have been watching to the WNBA. The WNBA players are making me loose interest in watching the game and seeing their talent. They need to steal my attention from the rookies I follow by playing well, not by complaining about the NEW players.
I think that there are a few things going on with Caitlyn Clark’s treatment the Main thing that people keep talking around & not really acknowledging is that a lot of us as Black people (for very understandable historical reasons) have a chip on their shoulder about having their contributions ignored, overshadowed, downplayed or co-opted in service of building up The Next Great White Talent. & that resentment is part of why we see CC being treated the way that she has been treated & why some black commentators- especially established WNBA people are not comfortable with calls to protect CC more- & while the Stephen A Smith’s of the world can see the messed up stuff going on because their gender gives them enough distance to be fair to CC, even they have been in comparable places before around Dirk, Jokic, Steve Nash etc. Also a part of it is that athletes are going to be competitive, they want to be the best & attack anyone who gets in the way including a rookie, another part is that the NBA is so small & the roster spots are so rare that every player has to treat every other player like their worst opp, & if you aren’t a simultaneously an all world talent & a Draymond tier Goon then you get run off the floor one way or the other & then you gotta go play in Russia with all the risks & downsides that come with that
How do you like her defense? Looks like a JV high school player. That's likely what happened. Starting shooting booms and if they go in, her coaches would let her guard the slow girl who never shoots! Stunted her growth.
remember when pat mcafee was like, a well liked person in sports media? i watched his show a lot back in 2019, but i find him absolutely insufferable now. like he used to be a fun storyteller who had a very unique perspective, but then he blew up and either became, or revealed himself to be a massive prick. i realized it when that whole brett kollmann situation happened, like he managed to come off as a complete asshole in a situation where he donated $5k to a guy who needed money to keep his dead dad's possessions. that takes like an impressive level of douchebaggery. all because someone had the audacity to tag him on twitter. one time.
His move to ESPN didn't help. He had a big ego and built in fanbase that clashed with SAS and his fanbase. But the company seems to hold them in equal value because they can cover virtually every demographic with those two
I stand on business, I’m hoping that Caitlin, Angel, and Cameron can bring actual revenue to the WNBA like what Magic/Bird did for the NBA in the 80’s.
You made a lot of good points but excusing a dirty play as “adjusting to the league” is wrong imo. Cheap shots aren’t part of the game. Let them trash talk and get a little physical, but dropping your shoulder and trucking someone is messed up Draymonds dirty antics don’t get waved off as adjusting to the league. The ones in the WNBA shouldn’t either.
Please, every nba player has a "welcome to the league" story. You probably say shit like "the nba's gotten too soft" out the other side of your mouth. Flagrants happen all the time in the nba and they never set off his kind of firestorm. Weird folks just had their white girl protection button pushed.
i find it wild how poorly taurasis comments on clark coming to the league went over. there is SUPPOSED to be a learning curve and even more so considering how clark plays the game. taurasis 20 years of wnba experience were looked over as many people dismissed her comments as "hate" or something adjacent. not only are the experienced voices in the media being overlooked but also the experienced voices within the league too.
May was cruel to the Fever, but it'll balance out. The olympics kind of fuck up the ability to make smooth schedules. June will be much easier than May was for the Fever. Hopefully, they'll even be better for going through the fire so immediately.
I cannot stress enough how horrible is was to talk about women's sports in general in the past. WNBA was a punchline all my life until the last few years. Women's basketball is just as fun to watch as men's and I am so glad people give a shit about it now.
I have been paying attention to Women's B-Ball since I was pretty young, tapes from when Cheryl Miller was crushing it and that Women's Olympic team in 84, then watching Women's Olympic B-Ball in Atlanta in 96, yeah it's a different game, but it gets even more competitive than Men's ball sometimes; I have been annoyed with the misogynist haters forever now, people don't realize how Women's ball has effected the NBA, Cheryl taught Reggie how to play coming up, Reggie was a main influence on Steph Curry's playstyle, do the math.
I watched last year when games came on. The narrative that got me to watch last year was having two super teams in the Aces and the Liberty. I’ve watched 8 of the 11 Fever game and usually I’ll watch the other game that comes on that night if it’s in my cable package. The girls are fairly rough. That’s what you will notice immediately. I’m a big NBA fan so the quality of play of course isn’t as good, but the women can hoop without the elevation. Caitlyn in 11 games, 8 that I watched in real time had 1 unnecessary foul against her. I saw three hard screens that landed, all LEGAL. And she has been okay but struggled with her shot. She needs to get a floater or midrange, but logo threes is how she became famous. They are guarding her hard, partly because it has been effective and her teammates aren’t making the defense pay. She will be alright but I think they could have marketed the old stars with the rookie class better BEFORE the season started. I think the turnaround from college to pros was so quick.
kofie... heres the real question... if CC an AR were teleported to the 80s when the wnba was in its infancy... how much more would the average contract be?? the popularity these women have are on WIlliam sister level of fame. all the women before them, did not garner that much attenion, and thus to the masses, CC or AR are the litearly only reason they watch and thus why basketball is great. u have 5000 people who are diehards day ones watching Candice Parker for years!! then u get 40k brand new spanking fans in arenas day one for a rookie... it kinda means she curbed the market and the overwhelming majority wont care, your angle is should they care???
Imma be real, the Fever doing NBA attendance numbers (16000+ a game). The Sky, despite not being a terrible team like the Fever, get half that attendance. Yes it is CC that's giving them attention, and it's not weird to say this it's just a fact. She's the biggest draw in women's and men's basketball.
The comments about Clark weren't just players being "realistic". Do you remember people being negative about Wembanyama entering the league? I don't. This is the players shooting themselves in the foot.
And also something can be true but bringing it up all the time is still hate. Like if ur ugly and I and all my friends go on the news every day and talk about how ur ugly were still hating even if were correct.
I have literally never seen a hyped rookie coming into the NBA without also hearing from NBA players that they’re not ready for the league literally what are you talking about
This is the select memory of a wnba hater in full force, you don't remember people being negative about Wemby? Like REALLY? How about Shaq saying him and Bol Bol are the same player? Hell how about retired NBA players calling the current game "soft"? This isn't a "WNBA" issue
@@richborn6700 reasons like this is why i stay off Twitter. I can live in blissful ignorance that everyone from my childhood isn't suffering from brain rot
I think people if anything underestimate Clark’s impact on interest in the WNBA. The viewership, attendance, and revenue numbers were way up in 2023 and theres nothing you can really point to causing that other than the huge popularity of the final four and final of the women’s ncaa tournament which led into the wnba season.
I think the biggest thing is that she’s the golden goose, and I’m not sorry saying this but the league gotta protect her or atleast her teammates gotta stand up for her. And it’s nothing on Reese but it’s like how wrestling is. Rising tides bring all ship up and like faces of the franchise you’ll get more of the cake if we all get to play and make it entertaining.
Look I don’t want to be that guy, but people are barely having an interest with Caitlin Clarke. Like we are talking about wnba a little more sure, but we went from only talking about the failure of the league and the financial aspects of it… NEVER the game. You can state angel Reese has a large following, I can say with the utmost confidence if it was just angel Reese and no Caitlin Clarke. You would not be covering the wnba, nobody would be talking about it.
I don’t think the “They should thank Clark” people were as vocal until players started criticizing her. I honestly can’t tell you if her game will translate well in the league, she is 3 point specialist and it looks like the WNBA plays D like it’s the late 90s, but she has put eyes on the game that weren’t there before. No one has to thank her or give her special treatment though. As for Reese….its not a Magic/Bird situation because both of those players were successful because of how talented they were when they had the ball. Caitlin shooting 3s and Reese is missing point blank under the basket, getting the rebound, missing, and repeating until the other team gets the ball or she’s fouled. It’s not fun to watch her play in my opinion.
1. Catlin Clark is shooting 29% from 3 so what 3s is she making 2. If u don’t find players who play under the rim fun the sport is not for you. 3. If shooting 3s is what makes Caitlin fun to watch then she’s definitely not fun to watch and must have other reasons why🤣. 4. These are rookies, rookies tend to be inefficient even some of the good veteran players Kelsey plum is shooting 35%, Arike is shooting 36%, jewell Loyd 34%. 5. There are many aspects of basketball that make it fun offense, defense, rebounding, plays and the only thing you like is shooting 3s I’m sorry but you either just started watching basketball or just started watching when Steph curry became his popularity in 2015.
@@Hurmspeedy if you read my comment properly I stated she was missing from point blank range. Never said anything about scoring under the rim isn’t fun, nice try though. I feel bad for Clark.. she just wants to hoop but her toxic fans will destroy a movement she is the catalyst for
Most “Catlin Clark fans” are not really fans of her they seem to use her as either a political pawn, push some narrative, or like her because other people do. Most of them fans can’t tell you what she good or bad at what she needs to develop. It just feels like most of her fans who ( are white ) only watch her because she is white.
Another sport with the turnaround that the WNBA has would be the PLL
I'm tired of the word discourse
SAS is pro wrestling, the man is always working us, I believe nothing he says lol
I'm not a new WNBA fan, I'm a NCAA Womens basketball fan following the players I have been watching to the WNBA. The WNBA players are making me loose interest in watching the game and seeing their talent. They need to steal my attention from the rookies I follow by playing well, not by complaining about the NEW players.
the dig at john stockton got me and made me cackle id love to know what madce you hate him.
I'm just desperate for the Houston Comets to return.
The newer fans who are CC fanatics have been uber fucking annoying to interact with because fuck…

Stunted her growth.
remember when pat mcafee was like, a well liked person in sports media? i watched his show a lot back in 2019, but i find him absolutely insufferable now. like he used to be a fun storyteller who had a very unique perspective, but then he blew up and either became, or revealed himself to be a massive prick. i realized it when that whole brett kollmann situation happened, like he managed to come off as a complete asshole in a situation where he donated $5k to a guy who needed money to keep his dead dad's possessions. that takes like an impressive level of douchebaggery. all because someone had the audacity to tag him on twitter. one time.
He started to fell off with the Aaron Rodgers 2020 shitshow
His move to ESPN didn't help. He had a big ego and built in fanbase that clashed with SAS and his fanbase. But the company seems to hold them in equal value because they can cover virtually every demographic with those two
I stand on business, I’m hoping that Caitlin, Angel, and Cameron can bring actual revenue to the WNBA like what Magic/Bird did for the NBA in the 80’s.
You made a lot of good points but excusing a dirty play as “adjusting to the league” is wrong imo. Cheap shots aren’t part of the game. Let them trash talk and get a little physical, but dropping your shoulder and trucking someone is messed up
Draymonds dirty antics don’t get waved off as adjusting to the league.
I’ve seen someone go as far to say that CC was assaulted 😂
i find it wild how poorly taurasis comments on clark coming to the league went over. there is SUPPOSED to be a learning curve and even more so considering how clark plays the game. taurasis 20 years of wnba experience were looked over as many people dismissed her comments as "hate" or something adjacent. not only are the experienced voices in the media being overlooked but also the experienced voices within the league too.
Kofie so real for that intro❤
Here for the stockton hate!
Kofie I think you forgot the slam link in the description
Ngl you gotta admit their schedule has been the most daunting out of ever team’s
May was cruel to the Fever, but it'll balance out. The olympics kind of fuck up the ability to make smooth schedules. June will be much easier than May was for the Fever. Hopefully, they'll even be better for going through the fire so immediately.
I’m just gonna keep my head down and root for my Connecticut Sun

Idk if a woman runs it but "women hooping" is a good channel for highlights and news
Leave it to Kofi to be rational about all this. What a bore!
Inb4 SAS claims pimp credit for US soccer in 2032
I want to pick a wnba team to root for but there isn't one near me so idk which team to pick

What did John Stockton do?
Imma be real, the Fever doing NBA attendance numbers (16000+ a game). The Sky, despite not being a terrible team like the Fever, get half that attendance. Yes it is CC that's giving them attention, and it's not weird to say this it's just a fact. She's the biggest draw in women's and men's basketball.
Clark being hounded in airports even led to the WNBA chartering planes for teams after almost 30 years of making the ladies fly coach.
I know this is off topic but Kofie do you not fw soccer at all?

Lmao I must ask why do you hate John Stockton? 😂😂
It really does feel like it's all Clark thoo
Look I don’t want to be that guy, but people are barely having an interest with Caitlin Clarke.
Like we are talking about wnba a little more sure, but we went from only talking about the failure of the league and the financial aspects of it… NEVER the game.
You can state angel Reese has a large following, I can say with the utmost confidence if it was just angel Reese and no Caitlin Clarke. You would not be covering the wnba, nobody would be talking about it.
Yerr
Caitlin is having a rookie slump like you said but she will probably be shooting in the 30s as well. One has a flashier play style. Not even saying Clark is better than Reese.
@@austinparks997 buddy you said “it not fun to watch her play in my opinion” you are unknowingly saying scoring under the rim is not fun, because that’s what she does 🤣 are you trying to say her rebounding and good defense is boring. Catlin Clark is throwing up shots she can’t make, have turnovers at an historic rate, and is a terrible defensive player.
@@Hurmspeedy she doesn’t score under the basket lmao she misses. She is as accurate from close range as CC is from 3 buddy 😂
@@austinparks997 you can afford to be struggling on offense when your a good rebounder and defensive player 🤣. When your ass on defense you have to be consistently good on offensive and if your not your just a walking liability like Clark is 🤣
