    Your channel is such a fantastic resource. I'm in film school and that covers a lot of the basics, but to see it in real life has truly been the key factor in my growth as a cinematographer. You my friend are a national treasure, haha, but seriously I can't ever fully express how helpful your videos have been in my development. You're talented and share that knowledge and expertise with us. Thank you, Brady.

    How are their faces equally exposed at 02:44? Was that deliberate considering the younger girl doesn't have a light source like the other woman in the shot? Thanks!

    I called this type of shot implied window shots, where windows are in visible in the shot. Its difficult because it takes more for audiences to believes the lights are coming where you want them to come from.

    What stands are you using when booming lights out that far? A tutorial on setting that up, stands, safety cables, etc. would be really helpful.
    I am constantly needing to boom things overhead but never feel comfortable doing it. Another great vid btw, thanks man!

    How much time do you often spend testing and lightning a shot until you get the look you want? I'm just curious... isn't that something a DP should have planned before the day of shoot? 😮

    • @benjiosborne
      @benjiosborne Год назад

      Prelights are a luxury most of the time you don't get as a DP. If you're lucky you get an initial location scout, then a tech scout which you can then make some plans with your gaffer and key about how you want to light it. But unfortunately, sometimes you just get thrown into a location or scene and you have to think on your feet to figure it out on the day. Not sure what he had for this shoot, but a lot of the time you won't have time to test or sometimes even to plan how you're going to light it.

    Really nice! Just a question: why use a net if the light is dimmable? Or does the net do other things too, like diffuse slightly as well?

    You were in Norway?? Norwegian subscriber here! Love your content, and as a beginner getting into lighting and cinematography these videos are so helpful. One question: I was surprised by how far away the therapist's key light was in the wide shot. Was that intentional? I thought one want to try to put the key as close as possible for a soft look. But I understand that in wide shots that is not so important. Curious about your reasoning here anyways

  • @akikrahaman8953
    @akikrahaman8953 Год назад

    Hey fantastic content but don't you think there's a lighting continuity error between the wide and the close up of the young girl. The close up looks natural and light is coming from camera left although when we go for the wide, the lighting on the left side of the face of the girl seems to be too much considering there's no motivation towards her. Just a constructive bit of criticism

  • @matthewhartman7176
    @matthewhartman7176 Год назад +2

    Too lit. It reads as "stage". In itself, and out of context it's a pretty frame. But in the context of suspending disbelief, I think you guys got ahead of yourselves and over engineered. As a result, it looks very pretty, but pretty staged.
    These things are subjective, right?
