Pro Tip: Ask them what they want. Under no circumstances is it a good idea to make a gift based on assumption. There's nothing worse than putting all that time and effort into something that will never be used.
you definitly pass the vibe check. as a trans guy who loves to crochet, i really like these ideas as its kind of hard to find masculine patterns. thanks man!
Yes!! I feel like even some of the "unisex" patterns I see recomended are unconsciously made with a femenine cut in mind (stopping at the waist instead of hips, sometimes having shaping at the chest area), which can make finding a project difficult because I know I'll have to make alterations and it won't be just as straightforward as following the pattern normally
Just stumbled on your channel while drinking my morning coffee....Fun story. My man is an Aerospace Engineer who just designed and had built a custom log cabin in the mountains of TN...Needless to say she's an incredible beast. I took it upon myself to start to make him a king size temperature blanket for his "big boy bed" at the cabin. I based the temperatures on the year they broke ground on the cabin(2022). I'm STILL going at this blanket (doing other projects as well)and have just a couple more months to go until this thing is finished....being that it's my first temperature blanket it's definitely been a fun project and worth every stitch. A labor of love and my largest project to date, if I ever get it done, BUT he's worth it. He's got 14 grand babies so next on the list, a "Grandpa Cardigan", of course..lol. Thank you for some more "manageable" sized idea's! My poor little Grandma fingers appreciate you!
Okay this is exactly what I woke up thinking about this morning; and I was like I wish there was a video actually made by a guy about this so I would know if guys really will want these things. And then you had just uploaded!! Perfect. And thank you for acknowledging that like a crochet wallet and tool belt are bad ideas. So many recommendations are things like that and I’m like girl… he does not want that lol. Your ideas are actually so helpful
I liked how more yarn = more commitment If i was making my dad something i would probably make him a beanie because he is bald and his head gets cold. Also i have no guarantee he would wear a shirt or something lol
as a nonbinary person who is very into fiber arts, it was so welcome to see someone more male presenting giving advice. But also so clearly being welcoming and kind. thank you
Thank you for this channel and specifically this video. I need to make something for a couple special "guys" in my life and this is wonderful. Love your channel too❤
im so glad i found you! our tastes are rly similar im excited to make funky lil gay stuff for myself :') ty for putting your ideas and projects out there for us to find and be inspired!
I recently stared learning crochet, and i give all my creation to my sisters and girl friends, and I only made scarfs for my husband and dad. I was pondering about what else to make them. This video is a blessing!!! Thank you for sharing! ♥
That line on the imperfections hit home for me I’ve been crocheting since I was watching my mom do it as a kid and I beat myself up and have to undo it and always quit the project because my OCD and have been working on my current project for over a year. It’s just a cardigan.
I made my grandpa a crochet neck pillow for his birthday and it's been VERY well loved ❤ with Christmas on it's way I'm not sure if I can beat that this time 😂
"I'm like a man slash man-adjacent" was wonderful. I might start using "adjacent" toward gender now too! Also loved the Patrick keychain with "make him something from his favorite anime" it sent me, it was great!
Love to see a man or people of other genders crochet!(don't blame me when i say this) I feel like mostly women or feminine people crochet!I LOVE to see the diversity of the crochet community and yt❤❤❤
Yay! You've listed at least two items I haven't seen everyone else suggest: scented rear-view-mirror hangings, and stress balls (rice inside a balloon, I didn't know that, thank you!) Totally agree with you on the tool-belt/tool-roll/wallet thing: making those with crochet instead of cloth or leather is going to leave you with a substandard item which the person will have to pretend to like. I've been looking at tool-roll patterns for myself, as something to store my DPNs in, and I myself would rather get something made of leather or cloth.
Love this! I’m -always- trying to think of crochet gifts for the dude types that I know. Some great ideas here! Glad your channel was recommended. ..And the Patrick Star keychain 😂
Yeah, thanks for the way you presented this. As someone with a more masc presentation than the "traditiona" crochet patterns, I'm so happy to find videos like these! It's great to have a multitude of styles and patterns to choose from so everybody can feel comfortable and feel like crocheting is for them too. 😊
I made a Maverick puppy for my huge Golden Knights fan. My adult sons like anything I make but I never thought about pot holders cuz they both cook. Ty so much for this. I have made them bath and kitchen scrubbies
Really loved your video!!!! I'm making a blanket for my guy right now but have been thinking about Christmas gifts or stocking stuffers for him and the rest of the guys in my life (parents, siblings, and in-laws lol) and the beer cozy is a great idea!!! Loved the idea of putting more masculine scents in the car one as well. Thank you so much!!!!
thank you!! I needed a list like this. I started crocheting few months ago and I'm almost half done with my hexagon shirt to give it to my bf, hope he likes it
polypropylene string makes very tight fabric, suitable for high stress applications. It comes in many colors and diameters, and is found on the aisle of big box store with rope and chains. It offers a new dimension to the crochetist.
THANK YOU for this channel, I needed video like these for so long! also i want to compliment you: your crochet pieces are beautiful and you learned so fast!!
This is really helpful as someone only getting into crocheting! It feels a bit intimidating to go from the most generic clothing to fun handmade ones suddenly, lol. P.S. I, too, love the anime character rosy-cheeked Patrick.
Wow, the bow tie idea is great! Seems simple to, I'll give it a go. I'm always banging out blankets, so I'll will make a change lol. 45 Yr old guy here.
Thank you, I’ve been wanting to make some gifts for the men in my life but while none would tell me something is “too” feminine for them I’d still like to try for a masculine style because it’s what matches their personal styles. Also it’s nice to see more men, or men adjacent as you described yourself, crocheting/knitting because it’s a wonderful unisex hobby that my son has gotten into after years of watching me do it but we mainly only find female channels.
I think most elederly men might be able to use some of these more practical accessories (winter hats, gloves, etc), but it might depend on their lifestyle/preferences.
You made me laugh real hard when you were talking about rags. I think you did not dare be a tiny little bit naughty but your eyes said it all. I’ll just say this: rags are very useful to clean up 💦 keep the videos coming sexy! Hugs
Hello from r/newtubers! :D Scrunchies would probably make a good gift for guys, especially with more men (men, trans men, etc, all included) with "man buns" these days. Plus, if they have a good texture, they can be fun to fidget with. I bought a bunch of crochet scrunchies at a craft show a few years ago, I honestly fidgeted with them more than I wore them. I wrapped them all up together into a stress ball. (new product idea lol?)
One thing that must be mentioned is that if you're making potholders, do NOT use acrylic. The heat of pans coming out of the oven will definitely make acrylic yarn melt after the first few uses. You'll get what looks like burnt crystals on them after a while. I learned this from experience. Also, I've had more than a few men approach me about making them cloaks and hooded capes. Living in Florida, I don't think they're thinking this through; even if they were knit, they would still be too warm here. That, and it's a lot of work to make an ankle-length garment. For those of you in colder climates, a cloak may be an option, but make sure your recipient wants one, and make sure you're willing to put in the work for such a garment.
Absolutely, avoid man-made fibres for potholders and trivets. 100% cotton is what I usually use. Other 100% natural fibres (e.g. linen, wool) would work too.
