Fun fact about Kirins(not Monster Hunter version). They were based on the description of giraffes and people who never saw them drew them as the kirins we know today.
Kirin was the first time i came to fear a unicorn. I feel like in Gen 1, Kirin was the opposite of Fatalis. Fatalis was this huge black dragon that can rain down fire and was kinda slow, but kirin was fast, a blindling white, and had power that could fry my ass just as hard as Fatalis fireball. Even in World, Kirin had ppl shuttering.
Another opposite about the two Elder Dragons are their views on life. While Kirin is vegetarian and does not harm good and pure souls, Fatalis bears hatred towards life itself, and will scorch any life form it comes across. Whether that be plants, monsters, or humans/wyverians.
I like how you referred to the Magala Incident as being Archive Number YR2014-4U. The original MH4 came out in Japan on January 26th 2014, with 4G/4 Ultimate being released on October 11 of the same year.
The humidity theory has even more weight when you consider that Kirin seems to prefer areas of high humidity, such as marshes, or in the new world, the Coral Highlands. And possibly altitude is a factor as well, with the towers and again coral highlands with it's high altitude areas.
I like the implied connection between kirin and alatreon. When using thunder attacks they do the same poses, despite being so different in every other way. Makes you wonder if there's some biological or supernatural reason behind direct control over thunder element in the mh universe
There's a more obvious connection between Kirin and White Fatalis. They both control thunder element, both harden their bodies to near-impenetrability with electricity, and both have splendid beards. Given the title "Father of Dragons", it may be that all elder dragons - Kirin included - are descended from White Fatalis.
Kirin is without a doubt one of the more majestic monsters in the series. Whenever it shows up I just bow my head in respect. truly the Inheritor of Thunder.

Monster Hunter Wilds has so much potential. Let’s hope the game brings back the realistic behavior from World so I can stand next to Kulu-ya-ku without getting my head ripped off (assuming he comes back in the game.)
I was so pissed when I found out kirins weren’t in monster hunter rise. The main reason is because they are one of the most Japanese inspired monsters in monster hunter series and they were not in the most Japanese themed hunter game yet
Not gonna lie, at the beginning it started to feel like the Kirin for a while was the Monster Hunter equivalent of Bigfoot before the elder dragon was eventually and brutally proven to be real. Not only do we get an awesome episode on the Kirin but we also got confirmation for Monster Hunter Wilds! Here’s hoping we actually see the Kirin in Wilds, cause it definitely be interesting to see what they add to its lore and gameplay.
i do appreciate that capcom still makes Kirin a mysterious monster. We now have several elder dragons that can manipulate lightnings but still nobody can understand how Kirin's ability works.
Elder Biology has ALWAYS really been interesting to me and one of my FAVORITE timbits of lore in Monster Hunter - I like that the unnatural CAN be partially understood, and yet they still remain daunting and unknown.
I really love your method of storytelling. I put this video on as audio-only at work and was thoroughly entertained, like I was listening to a documentary about a real creature. I hope you continue to make these, they're absolutely amazing. With the upcoming MH6, I just know we'll have more lore to infer about and more elder dragons to want to learn about, its gonna be a great year when that game comes out!
It would be really sick if they expanded upon Kirin in the upcoming MHWilds. Seeing something like a sandstorm Kirin manipulating the storm seen in the trailer then maybe learning more about the Kirin in general would be really neat.
There were also another subspecies of Kirin that is Thunder Emperor Kirin. Was seen in MH Exlpore. I would say its lore would be when confront with Rajang, the Kirin end up wining and gaining power from Rajang Horns. Thus Transform it into Thunder Emperor Kirin.
Regarding the notion at the end regarding the "true" ability of the Kirin Genus, it lines up quite well with my own pet theory regarding the entire classification of Elder Dragons, or at least those that demonstrate clear extrasensory abilities. Specifically, I believe that the true undercurrent that classifies an Elder Dragon is the presence of "True Electrosense", or more accurately, the ability to read and manipulate the planet's electrosphere in some capacity, using an extremely specialised form of electroreceptors that, in all vertebrate Elder Dragons, manifests as horns of some variety. Practically speaking, we see this in the relationship between and Elder Dragon's extrasensory abilities and their horns, such as the Kirin's apparent ability to call down lightning and the Oroshi Kirin's ability to flash-freeze the atmosphere, both of which become hindered after their horns are destroyed. Other immediate examples include the barriers of wind created by the Kushala Daora, which due to their poor immune system, also can be hampered by the presence of toxins within their body, the auras of flame and ability to superheat the atmosphere as manifested by both the males and females of the Ostra genus, the Chamelos's ability to mentally manipulate fog to perform metamaterial cloaking, the manipulation of bioluminecent plankton by the Ceadeus, the Amatsumagutchi's ability to hold itself aloft and generate typhoons, the Alatreon's ability to command the elements via using an unstable combination of previously mentioned expressions of True Electrosense, the Shagaru Magala's ability to seemingly command it's virus within the atmosphere to create a vortex of darkness, alongside remote detonations via chemical reactions and the Dalamadur's ability to summon meteors of unknown origin.

Kirin seems to be able to manipulate moisture over lightning. It uses this to condense ambient electricity into storm cloud, which it summons lightning by using either its horn as a lightning rod or by spreading its fur out into the air to do the same
The Kirin may be able to send water molecules into the air from its azure horn to create the conditions for the thunderstorms and use metallic properties in said horns may attract the bolts like a lightning rod. @@edwarddanza5468 does that include safi’jiva, and xeno’jiva? @@Artwolf007true but the guild basically said this is the only one we will allow knowledge of since it actually poses a threat and is also able to easily be classified as the strongest elder as a cover up for the other things we don't talk about
i have a question, with this becoming a whole separate series, will you eventually go back to monsters you've covered previously like rajang or monsters you've covered in passing in in the nature of monster hunter world/rise series?
This further reinforces my belief that the Kirin MAY not be a danger if not provoked. They only act in response of hunters approaching it. The question is if you approach it in a non-threatening manner, or you don't show aggression for a period of time in an area, could one approach a Kirin without fear of being attacked?
Also, the moisture theory doesn’t completely hold up when you consider the fact that Rajang get their abilities from eating Kirin Horns. Just accept it’s magic and call it a day 😅
With this lore, it really makes me wonder if the homeland of the Kirin and Rajang is something we are going to eventually see in Monster Hunter Willds! Could you imagine if they revealed the curtain on where these creatures are actually from?!
i know were not techincally supposed to know how the kirin can call lightning, but i believe it's the horn, i believe the material of the horn and maybe even it's whole skeleton, is lined with special magnetic tissue that can cause the air around it to magnetise and create a sort of funnelling effect for the electrical currents in the air, therefore calling down thunder, i don't like to think it's "psychic" or "magic" cuz that's too easy for monster hunter ya know? the sideways lightning attack is largely why i think this, cuz the kirin moves it's horn in the direction it WANTS the lightning to travel, so that's my theory, a HUNTER THEORY!!! sorry i had to....oh....hunter theories.....could be a good idea for a show....
It feels a little like the series is trying to avoid the word magic a lot, even though it would be inherently required for any of the giant flying wyverns to fly even 20 feet off the ground
@GOOBER42018 also potions that immediately cure greivous wounds and insects that apply attack, defense and health boosts? Excuse me if I believe these have some magic affinity
OOF this brings me back to FU and I was so cocky seeing a little unicorn on a hunt... untill my Greatsword kept bouncing off and i got carted faster than my first Tigrex hunt lmao
As interesting as unique as Kirin is I really hope they revamp its fight because yeah it is like introductory elder dragon but it’s a lackluster fight😭 like the cinematics always make it look more bad ass and fun then it is
The things that make Elders Dragons special is their grandeur. They are the only ones that have "magic" in the world of MH (nergigante's regen, kirin's lightning, kushala's tornados, etc...) or are just incomprehensible (dalamadur, ahtal-ka, jhen mohran, etc...). And that's also why I don't like "elder tier monsters" if they are not extremes of the species (although rajang hunting kirin is fine, it makes sense)
I always find it funny that this is lumped in as a dragon despite the fact that unlike the other "dragon descended" species out there, Kirin looks nothing like them. I mean, kirin has hooves, a body plan nothing like the other "dragons", and appears to have plant eater teeth....
@handtomouth4690 It's more the idea that they don't have any other way to understand it other than "it's some sort of weird dragon thing", that I find amusing.
As cool as that sounds, it probably wouldn't make much sense. Iirc, Rajang don't actually get their powers from Kirin horns, they have thunder element since they're born, the horns only awaken them.
Am I the only one that found it weird that in monster hunter rise the most Japanese themed monster Hunter to date kirin one of the most Japanese inspired monsters in monster hunter series never showed up?
@@tagon2381 OK that reasoning is a little more understandable, but it still kind of falls flat given that they have rajang in the game and I know for a fact he is inspired by both the saiyans of dragon ball Z and sun wuKong of journey to the west, with the latter being the inspiration for the former
@@grigori9061 maybe they just wanted the newer flagships/ED’s to shine. There’s plenty of monsters who don’t fit the Japanese aesthetic, such as stuff like diablos, cham/teo/kush, and even the raths.

Also, the moisture theory doesn’t completely hold up when you consider the fact that Rajang get their abilities from eating Kirin Horns. Just accept it’s magic and call it a day 😅
I hope Oroshi Kirin comes back for the new game. 😌🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾
With this lore, it really makes me wonder if the homeland of the Kirin and Rajang is something we are going to eventually see in Monster Hunter Willds! Could you imagine if they revealed the curtain on where these creatures are actually from?!
rajang: ah what do you mean? that horn is my meal!
when i'm hunting this is all i listen to
Man hearing Grim Dawn music in the background confused the hell outta me, last place i expected to hear it.
Imagine if Velkhana had to eat Oroshi Kirin horns to get its powers
i know were not techincally supposed to know how the kirin can call lightning, but i believe it's the horn, i believe the material of the horn and maybe even it's whole skeleton, is lined with special magnetic tissue that can cause the air around it to magnetise and create a sort of funnelling effect for the electrical currents in the air, therefore calling down thunder, i don't like to think it's "psychic" or "magic" cuz that's too easy for monster hunter ya know? the sideways lightning attack is largely why i think this, cuz the kirin moves it's horn in the direction it WANTS the lightning to travel, so that's my theory, a HUNTER THEORY!!! sorry i had to....oh....hunter theories.....could be a good idea for a show....
Thought this was gonna reference the beer too
It feels a little like the series is trying to avoid the word magic a lot, even though it would be inherently required for any of the giant flying wyverns to fly even 20 feet off the ground
@GOOBER42018 sources or it’s not canon.
@GOOBER42018 also potions that immediately cure greivous wounds and insects that apply attack, defense and health boosts? Excuse me if I believe these have some magic affinity
@@ethanpatel3622And said potions are made with healing herbs and besides most of that is just game mechanics
@@ethanpatel3622Also speaking of sources there are sources in the description of this video that explain the info from this video.
Man, this episode gone.... wild...
Well, well fellow scholars, ... I myself propose that the Orochi might be a unique adaptation to counter the Rajangs fury ...
Could it be ... ?
That one monster in the story's anime that as some level of telepathy
Esta es mi parte favorita de estar vivo
OOF this brings me back to FU and I was so cocky seeing a little unicorn on a hunt... untill my Greatsword kept bouncing off and i got carted faster than my first Tigrex hunt lmao
Hunters do Well Done Steaks out of monsters
*Kirin makes Burnt Meat out of hunters* 💀
As interesting as unique as Kirin is I really hope they revamp its fight because yeah it is like introductory elder dragon but it’s a lackluster fight😭 like the cinematics always make it look more bad ass and fun then it is
If seeing weapons with parts from Kirin in Mh:W, yet I haven’t fought one
The things that make Elders Dragons special is their grandeur. They are the only ones that have "magic" in the world of MH (nergigante's regen, kirin's lightning, kushala's tornados, etc...) or are just incomprehensible (dalamadur, ahtal-ka, jhen mohran, etc...). And that's also why I don't like "elder tier monsters" if they are not extremes of the species (although rajang hunting kirin is fine, it makes sense)
OST at 8:15? Anyone?
😮 the Kirin!!! Truly a fantastic beast 😅😂
Rajang ripping off a Kirin horn and eating it/10
My little pony.
Electric bogaloo edition
Love the vid to more plz❤
What’s the opening theme
What's the thunder emperor kirin
I always find it funny that this is lumped in as a dragon despite the fact that unlike the other "dragon descended" species out there, Kirin looks nothing like them.
I mean, kirin has hooves, a body plan nothing like the other "dragons", and appears to have plant eater teeth....
"Elder dragon" doesn't mean dragon shaped. There's plenty of elder dragons that don't look like dragons.
@handtomouth4690 It's more the idea that they don't have any other way to understand it other than "it's some sort of weird dragon thing", that I find amusing.
Respect!
The monster that my cousin hunted into exsention
nice video
Kirin be using hacks lol
Ah yes, the *H O N S E*
Kinda wish we got a rajang subspecies that ate an orochi Kirin for ice rajang
As cool as that sounds, it probably wouldn't make much sense. Iirc, Rajang don't actually get their powers from Kirin horns, they have thunder element since they're born, the horns only awaken them.
@@pelusa720 hence the subspecies and not variant seeing as subspecies are able to go from fire to ice in concept
@@blankblank6214 didn't read the subspecies part. Makes sense then ^ ^
Day 1 of asking orceaniz to make a vid on white fatalis
Never anger the nice ones.
honse
this is why you don't case random animals with know idea what it can do!!!!
edit; no, not know...
Am I the only one that found it weird that in monster hunter rise the most Japanese themed monster Hunter to date kirin one of the most Japanese inspired monsters in monster hunter series never showed up?
Mostly cause kirin is a Chinese mythological creature. The theme of rise was more yokai anyway, and a kirin isn’t a yokai
