I like the drawbridge door right up until I saw you used an antenna. How long before it broke?

I used it for a couple years and then lost my birds to a fox and sold everything. The antenna is designed to be used outside in the elements 24/7 so I'm not sure what your concern is. I did have to grease it occasionally though

@@adamdport " The antenna is designed to be used outside in the elements"
Yeah but it is not designed to be lifting, pulling , pushing things. They are designed to only hold their own weight and for catching radio signals.
As far as 24/7, that's not true either. It is only exposed to the elements when you have the radio on. So unless you are in your car listening to the radio 24/7 then no.
"lost my birds to a fox " yeah I could definitely see that happening.

When the antenna is retracted it's still just as exposed to the elements. I'd argue that being whipped around in the wind on the highway is harder on it than some resistance of the weight of a small door once a day. and EVEN IF it broke after a few years, it's only $10 at the scrap yard for an identical replacement...but to help the next guy, did you have an alternative to recommend?

@@adamdport "When the antenna is retracted it's still just as exposed to the elements. "
Did you really just say that? That's like saying you wearing a space suit is just as exposed as it you were wearing nothing. Seriously?!
" I'd argue that being whipped around in the wind on the highway is harder on it than some resistance of the weight of a small door once a day."
And you would be wrong. It is not on the highway 24/7 either. And it was design with that in mind, and is why it is tubulare for less wind resistance. Anda again it is NOT meant to be pushing pulling and lifting anything besides itself. It is not a FISHING ROD. Just look at your own video. Tha antenna is bending like you had a marlin on the line.
On the note about the highway. Even in the owners manuals of cars that had them they would often tell you not to have it up in harsh winds.
"EVEN IF it broke after a few years, it's only $10 at the scrap yard for an identical replacement"
Guess again. $28.16 at the junk yard. go to pullapart / used-auto-parts / parts-pricing and see for yourself.
Plus a used one will most likely die sooner than later. Not to mention the power antennas at junk yards ar getting more and more rare.
The cheapest new is $29 , and those are the crappiest ones. 45 and up are the better qual stuff.
"to help the next guy, did you have an alternative to recommend?"
Of course I do. I'd recommend a cheap crappy string door, before I'd ever an antenna.
I got vids on them. You can get a new decent Linear Actuator for $35. They are literally meant for this sort of stuff.

@@AztecWarrior69 you don't bring your antenna inside at night-it's outside 24/7. They're designed to withstand sustained highway driving which is 70mph air. I personally paid $10 at my local scrap yard. I'm sorry your prices are more than mine. Enjoy your project!
