    Spectacular coop. At age 75 I built my first ever coop. I have built 3 more since. Each coop has a run attached. This year at age 80 I enlarged the run area to 10 X 25. This is in addition to the the first run 4 X 12 with an additional 2 X3 area under the nest boxes. I only have 8 hens but I have automated the water supply, added usb fans to each nest box. I have a exhaust fan and a grandpa feeder to keep rodents out of the feed. In addition the coop is elevated too make sure they always have shade. love every thing you have done with your excellent coop.

    The old timers I knew as a kid, used emery cloth to clean the dirty eggs, they sold commercially so every egg was important. Nice coop, mine also had cement floor, water and power. Wood was cheap then, so it also had knotty pine walls and a skylight.😂

    Few of the viewers comments … and it appears that “Joel” is a hater and possibly alittle with jelly with “wow” fancy chicken coup

    Nice setup! I have the same roll-away nest boxes. How do you keep the hens from sleeping in yours. If I let my hens spend the night in the nest box, they will poop in them and foul subsequent eggs. So, we close the perch bar each night and reopen each morning. I have an automatic door like yours and a waterer that only needs filling every 5th day or so. Opening the nest box each morning and making sure no hens are in there each night means we are not fully automated. Hengear sells a spring operated mechanism on a timer that can be set to drop the roost bar each morning, but you’d still need to close it each night. And on most nights, we are pulling a couple of reluctant hens out of the nest box before closing it up.

    • @fluffyfeatherfarm
      @fluffyfeatherfarm  Год назад

      Hummmmm…. We have never prevented them from roosting in the boxes… honestly I never really thought about it… if they get dirty we just clean them out. Does it create a large problem for you?

      Yes, the inside area (coop) is 12x16 but we are adding on a much larger section as we speak… and the outside area is about a 1/4 acre… front section with sink is 12x8.
      The new coop area we are adding is 18x30… it’s going to be super huge for all the chickens to roost at night… then the area we are using now will all be food, water, and nesting only…

      I do not, we actually worked with an existing building that was on our property when we moved here and added onto it and we are in the process of adding on again. I kind of built it as I went so if there are more specific items you would like details on I’d be happy to either send you a video or give you additional details… I can tell you the entire structure is 12 feet wide by 24 feet long with half of it, dedicated to the front section and a half dedicated to the chicken coop. But please reach out via email or our contact page and I can get you more details if you would like.

    Agreed on automation is key, but no way am I putting a AC and fridge in a coop lol, I understand the mini business to keep the family entertained and to teach kids early on the value of money and work ethic, but the cost of power here in the tropics is insane, im also building a coop, but it has to be sustainable, so I'm going with solar for power and a full rain harvesting system for water, im going to have a similar watering system, but mine will pump up the rain water to a gravity feed system.
