SagutoGolf what’s a good drill for the back elbow staying glued and swinging through? The skipping a rock motion....while throwing a ball against the wall (so that it bounces back to you) drill comes to mind. If that makes sense lol. Thx 🍻

Tom Saguto you have changed my life. At 72 years old I had slowly crept up to a handicap of 21, hitting weak shots and not knowing how to fix it. With age the hand eye coordination and flexibility still hit the ball solid with lousy, over the top technique. Thanks to your amazing instruction I am back hitting the ball solid, my 7 iron flying a crisp 150 again. My last few rounds have all been in the low 80's, and i expect to break 80 again soon, something I have not done for twenty years. Keep it up young man!!

Tom. I'm 76 years old and have been playing golf since i'm 40. This season I struggled terribly with my game . After watching your videos on Ben Hogans swing It has done a miracle with my swing. Yesterday I played the best round of this season. You are by far the best teacher I have ever had. I will continue to watch your instruction as it has completely changed my swing and contact with the ball. Thanks again. God Bless and good luck. Tom Lembo, Manchester, New Jersey.

That's fantastic, Tom!! I sincerely appreciate your kind words and I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you. Excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play, and thank you for sharing your ball striking improvement!
By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.
Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner.
You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
Thanks again for your message and keep up the great work!!
      God bless,
      Tom

Thanks Tom! This video lesson has transformed my swing and has made golf much more enjoyable. I was amazed at how much power I can get with a shorter backswing. I'm hitting the ball way more consistently solid and gained a lot of distance. I had back surgery several years ago and had given up the game because it was too painful to play. I recently got back to playing, trying to find ways to modify my swing so it was comfortable for me. This tip has allowed me to have a great swing that does not hurt my back at all, and I actually hit the ball better than how my swing was before injuring my back. Thanks again for this tip and for all of your videos. I've improved my game more from your videos than any other instructions/lessons I have taken. Golf is finally enjoyable again and I can look forward to playing for years to come without pain!

Dear Tom Saguto, i just discovered your channel. I am 69 years old and have NOT played a single round of golf for the last 5+ years due to ill health. I finally worked myself up to go to a driving range armed, and inspired, by by your videos. The results were amazing! I had read Hogan's books before but had never really internalized them. Your videos, especially where you advise the Right elbow "tuck" under the left, made the difference for me. I have never hit a golf ball better before! After a few more sessions at the range, i am gathering the courage to go out on the course again soon. Thx 🙏

That's awesome, @vm2000!! I'm thrilled to know that you are getting back into this wonderful game after being away for so long!!
There's a lot of great information in Mr. Hogan's "Five Lessons" book, but there have also been many misinterpretations that have led numerous golfers - and their ball flight - astray. I do my best to take what Mr. Hogan conveys in the book as his "feels", apply it to the reality of what he actually did in his swing, and translate it into something we all can learn well from, because if we can get Hogan right there are tremendously effective swing keys to be garnered!!
By the way, a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built.

Just joined Saguto golf. I’ve been playing and searching for 25 years. His system fits what I’ve been trying to do but he puts it all together and explains it perfectly!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 года назад +1

Welcome aboard, @mizzo9!! I truly appreciate your kind words and support, and I am very glad to know that you are enjoying and benefiting from my lesson content!!
Just a little bit of preliminary advice as you get started in the online school:
      1. It is crucial to take sufficient time to master the fundamental components of the first couple of chapters! I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when a student jumps ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating himself/herself to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Please have a look at this introductory video if you have not already done so: saguto.golf/courses/1166020/lectures/30347767.
      2. One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will suggest that students park themselves on Chapter 2 of the Golf Swing Simplified course for an extended period of time after locking down Chapter 1's foundational elements. Chapter 2 reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then commit yourself to that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use the somewhat abbreviated swing it provides on the course and play quite well with it! Once you've got that down, you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing!
      3. Also, as you progress always keep in mind the V1 Swing Video Analysis service, an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. Here's the link with additional information for future reference. app.v1sports.com/Saguto-Golf
      4. Finally, please migrate over to the new “Office Hours” forum - which is included in your online school membership - and begin engaging with other golfers in the SagutoGolf community. It only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access and participate in the great dialogue that we are having on a variety of topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I monitor the forum regularly and am a frequent participant in the discussions, including assisting with swing-related inquiries. I really think you’ll enjoy it!
I look forward to hearing from you regularly in the Forum and to assisting you in building a consistent, low maintenance, powerful, body-friendly swing that will bring your enjoyment of this great game to a new level!
Thanks for sharing, keep up the great work, and have fun out there!!

PS: If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. I've played baseball at a high level for 25+ years. I have never played golf until recently. My baseball days have come to an end so it was a good time for me to transition to golf. So glad I stumbled upon this video.. I have been trying to find a way to make my swing simple and powerful like I did for years playing ball and this clicked for me immediately. I used this advice first time out at range and it's exciting. I'm a fan and will follow from now on. Showing me how my swing should get to that position behind my back shoulder and loading up slightly on my front knee instead of loading up on my back like in ball has done wonders in just one day. Thanks for keeping it simple.

Welcome to this great game, Brian! I was a baseball player as well, and the key to an effective transition lies in harnessing the common power sources shared by both baseball and golf while also recognizing the distinct differences that can otherwise cause the golf ball to fly sideways.
Perhaps at some point you might consider the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Mr. Saguto-I am so grateful for the lesson on Mr. Hogan!! I was shooting in the mid to low 80s and now I'm inching into the 70s everytime I play. The consistency of my ball flight has made all the difference. It has also given me greater control over the distance on my approach shots. I've been playing golf for over 50 years and this is the first lesson I received which makes the swing so simple. Thanks Again!! P. S. How do I avoid missing those 3 foot putts???

I truly appreciate your kind words and I am very glad to learn that my channel's instruction has benefited your game to such an extent!! You've obviously done an excellent job digesting my lesson content, incorporating it into your swing, and taking ownership of it!!
As for those pesky 3-footers, pick 'em up - and if anyone asks just tell them Saguto said it was good....😆😆 Actually, you may be interested in looking into the SagutoGolf online school as that is where you'll find all my short game content. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only learning system for the full swing along with chipping, pitching, putting, bunker play, and much more, and I'm regularly adding new content. Aside from that, Phil Mickelson was known to really challenge himself in his practice drill for 3-footers. If you've got the time to devote to it, then look it up as that should improve your stroke to the point where your friends are telling you to "pick it up" without any need for my intervention!...
Thanks for sharing your success and keep up the great work!!

Wow my brother who is a scracth golfer came into town this last weekend, after watching this video we golfed at one of the local courses in Colorado. I have been golfing and can barely break 100 but consistently however i gave this lesson a try and i was out driving my brother and hitting the greens in regulation far more consistently. He kept saying nice par and i was putting for birdie on at least half of the holes we played. He still beat me, but he didn't beat me on every hole like he normorally does. I am now going to dial Hogan's swing in and practice it. Thanks for the lesson!

Glad you're enjoying the Hogan series, Al!
I would suggest that perhaps you may not be getting enough lateral hip slide. This move initiates the downswing and continues into impact, shallowing the path into the ball to produce crispier iron contact and more of a sweeping approach for the longer clubs. It also ensure that we get enough weight forward - 90/10 at impact - while maintaining our swing center so that our low point doesn't shift backwards and cause turf-first contact. These two most recent Hogan videos relate specifically to this:
      1) ruclips.net/video/iejRWhuB7y8/видео.html
      2) ruclips.net/video/ACvoHI6A-R8/видео.html
By the way, have you enrolled in the SagutoGolf online school yet? It's really the most effective and efficient way to learn and take ownership of this swing! For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. Bad habits ensued and I lost all my power. Now that I can swing pain-free the Hogan/Saguto approach is helping me get my game back. I've always loved Hogan's stuff. 9.5 out of 10 video. Your best yet. Look at his rt foot 90° to the target line. Not because of any post accident limitation. I think he did it to limit hip pivot compared to shoulder pivot. He wanted shoulders pivoted back more than his hips to obtain more power when he unwinds. I think he also torqued left foot bearing most of his weight (>65%) to add rotational power and stability on his backswing. I don't believe he had back weight shift from trail side to front side - it was already there. Thoughts?

Hey Tom, great info in this video. I just wanted to expand on a few points below as I changed my swing about a year ago to emulate exclusively the teachings of Hogan. It has been a unique experience adapting the changes, luckily made easier by understood concepts and principles of the golf swing acquired from studying the PGA Teaching Manual and applying it's principals in real life during and after my time at The Golf Academy of the America (formerly The Golf Academy of the South). Although never going the "club pro" route I continue to play and help anyone interested.
That being said, I would like to share my experiences with the Hogan swing with you and your subscribers in regard to some of the points made about the lower body and what it is doing, "real vs feel", not with hostile intent to what you have stated (I come in peace :) but as an added voice to the discussion. Hogan's 5 Lessons will be an added help to anyone interested.
*Looking at freeze frame of Hogan's swing with the face-on view at 11:41 is a great reference to start, if we place the edge of a small piece of paper just under is belt line and let his back-swing play.
The paper edge and his belt remain parallel as his right hip works away from the ball and his left hip towards, made very clear by the left knee moving closer to the ball while we see the tension/torsion building in the right leg. There is a "give and take" between turning back into his right side and the natural move of the left knee "falling" toward the ball in order to maintain his spine angle set at address, better observed on a "down the line" view. *
    LEFT LEG
Hogan does not keep his weight on his left side at any time, observing his completed back-swing at 12:09 the inside of the left foot is slightly rolled unto the grass while the left knee flexed and "falling" toward the ball. (Common of many swings in that era now called the "classic swing", Gary Player, Sam Snead etc. had this similar "rolling effect" with the left foot.) At this point there is no significant load being held on his left leg/side, it is all predominantly on the right side. He does not keep his weight on the left side to free up the deep turn of the right hip; allowing the left knee to naturally "fall" and left foot slightly roll will create this effect.
When I was able to grasp and execute this concept the "feeling" I got was that I was staying on my left side because of being accustomed to shifting slightly laterally when following the teachings of "get your weight on your right side".
    RIGHT LEG
    - Many have thought that the right knee was extended at the top of his swing as we can see at 12:09, but this is more of an optical effect created by the very loose pants Hogan wears. (Not mine, but an opinion I support through my evolution that was presented by people that have studied his swing and known him personally) At this time stamp you can see the sheen from the light source on the left pant knee as it extends toward the ball and, looking at the right knee closely, the same can be observed but to a lesser degree. In 5 Lessons Hogan emphasizes the need to create the power for the swing from the lower body right side (right handed golfer) by a corkscrew type effect and this begins with his unique setup; having the right foot squared up to the target line as opposed to slightly open as we are usually taught and his left foot flared slightly more than "normal". (to better imagine this for someone wanting to try; approach the ball and target line with your feet completely together, insides of your shoes touching, now step back with your right foot keeping it parallel to the left, this will feel a little awkward as our physiology dictates it should slightly open; the left foot is then set in place initially parallel but then slightly flared open, if an imaginary line traveling up the inside of the left foot is at 12 o clock, turn it out to 10.)
When I did this I immediately felt a distinct increase in torsion and power, you feel as if your right foot is going to rip the turf in half!! Couple this with another key point in Hogan's setup, weight distribution through the feet. He explains that we should feel are weight on the insides of our thighs spreading down the legs to the inside of the feet (paraphrasing), this creates an interesting effect because if you retain the weight on the inside of the right leg, with a flexed right knee, moving the right hip backward during the back-swing, allowing the natural fall of the left knee to the ball - the lower body power generated in a short compact turn is huge, the right knee moves backward but does not straighten completely only comparatively from where it began - a huge amount of your power would be lost if you did so. To amplify this effect put a wedge (or similar) under the right foot (RH golfer) rolling it slightly inward. (if someone has knee problems definitely work up to this gradually.)
As I mentioned above, I just wanted to contribute my experiences to the discussion in the hopes of better golf for everyone. Hogan's 5 Lessons are a great reference for anyone looking to dig deeper, as I am sure you know. Keep up the good work, its appreciated!

    • @sleepyfu
      @sleepyfu 3 года назад

Yes, Mr. Hogan most definitely did not set his weight forward at address. Hip did not swivel, he loads into the rear hip, and yes it will eventually "turn" as you get the club to the top, the turn is for hitting the ball.

I like that you discuss no need to drop into the slot. Hogan talked about a waggle. His waggle had the wrists creating a lot of movement as he felt fir the club head path in the takeaway. But the actual takeaway had no movement in the wrists. The wrists were quiet. Any movement in the wrists makes the takeaway unstable. I like how you talk about the hands behind the right shoulder on the backswing. My subconscious feeling was to be trying to get my weight behind the club during the takeaway. A very premature action. The weight gets behind the ball in transition into the downswing. As Hogan told Gary Player the hands take a different path than the club head.

Tom, Thank you! I’m an average golfer who loves the game of golf. I started having tremendous slicing problems off the tee. It got so bad I even tried using non conforming golf balls that would eliminate 75% of my slice. They worked well but, I needed and wanted to hit the ball straight. I watched one of your videos on tucking in your trail elbow like Ben Hogan. I practiced the swing at home then went out to the coarse for a round. I HIT 16 OUT OF 18 FAIRWAYS THE FIRST TIME OUT! I went out again a week later and hit the driver as straight as a pin again with no slicing and HIT 15 OUT OF 18 FAIRWAYS! Another great lesson Tom, way back when I played of 4, I swung as flat as this and then for no apparent reason I started getting trapped behind myself and started to come over the top to get back to the ball -HORRIBLE MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! So it changed to getting the club more up in the air going back and then flattening the arc coming down. This has worked reasonably well for the last 45 years and I still play off 6. But my friend you have got my juices flowing and I want to return to my old swing path- I used to draw the ball easily with it and now I just hit it straight down the middle!!!!!!!!!!! it's true!!. But my golf course in our holiday home in the Algarve is called Villa Sol and you need to hit a lot of draws off the tee and honestly I struggle now to hit a natural draw. I sort of snatch a pulled hook when I try to draw. Anyway I am going back to my flatter swing and find me some smooth little draws. Love your teaching and you are a funny guy.

A couple of suggestions if you're looking to transition from a two-plane (lift and shift?) swing to this one and wish to go about it efficiently:
      1) If you'd really like to get on the fast track towards learning and owning this swing, please consider enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing (including the finer points and feels), the short game, and much more. Here's a link if you'd like additional info: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga.
      2) For a very useful supplemental tool, consider purchasing a copy of the Stack & Tilt book by Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer. It will serve you well as a textbook reference guide for the swing and will be highly supportive of what you will learn in my online school as well as here on this channel.
Thanks for sharing, and please keep me posted on your progress!!

Mr. Hogan timelessly delivers phenomenal instructional value, right Jeffrey?! But there are just so many misconceptions about Hogan’s swing out there - particularly within the realm of misunderstood or misapplied instruction - that have sadly relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. I'm doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness by taking what Mr. Hogan conveys in the "Five Lessons" book as his "feels", applying it to the reality of what he actually did in his swing, and translating it into something we all - including myself - can learn well from. Because if we can get Hogan right there are tremendously effective swing keys to be garnered!!
Based on unsolicited comments received here on my channel, the two Hogan episodes you referenced have helped scores of golfers find their groove and achieve a level of ball striking bliss - aka "crispier-than-KFC-compression" - that was previously an unknown and completely foreign concept to them. I'm very glad to learn that these video lessons have helped you to such an extent, and I truly appreciate your support in sharing your results!

    Tom..
Great tip.. Mr Hogan made it look so easy... No slide to right side.. just an easy stack on left side. Question: Should the left arm be on top of the left pec muscle? (In lieu of keeping left arm on the side). Notice now how Patrick Reed now has his arms out in front on him. His arms seem more in front of his pecs.
Thank you for your great and fun comments!
    Ken

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Ken!
In the Stack and Tilt swing that I teach - and with respect to a right handed player - the left arm should cross the chest 45 degrees, essentially riding on the left side of the left pec muscle to the top of the backswing, at which point that arm should be on or just below the shoulder plane.
I hope that appropriately answers your question.
      Thanks!
      Tom

So much of this is what I did naturally in my first year of golf. I've had it all coached out of me, and im not making progress with my irons. Now I'm finding that one of the best of all time straightened the trail leg and kept weight forward after I've spent 2 years trying to stop doing it.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Месяц назад

Unfortunately, Andrew, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎
Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of modern “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness.
Anyway, let's erase those two years and get you on the proper path towards consistently crispy ball striking bliss. For a really good starting point here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker": go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

Mr. Hogan delivered - and continues to deliver posthumously - phenomenal and timeless instructional value, right?! But there are just so many misconceptions about Hogan’s swing out there - particularly within the realm of misunderstood or misapplied teachings - that have sadly relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. I’m doing my best to clear these and put an end to this madness, because if we can get Hogan right there are tremendously effective swing keys to be garnered.
Thanks for your message and support!

@@SagutoGolf Agree, I couldn't use his right hand grip position out of the book. I now learn, of course, he was setting up to prevent a hook. The other was the wrapped arms example, no go. I like the way you teach about keeping the upper arms in tight through the swing. In addition, your explanation covering the movement and weight distribution of the legs is golden. That alone has stopped my lateral head movement. Great stuff Tom and be safe...
