I wonder how many swings we had outside the strike zone? The plate discipline the Astros were well known for is gone. They used to make pitchers throw them good pitches to hit but now they swing at everything. Someone has commented that the Athletics are a better team than their record. I disagree. We’re just playing like a team worse than our record.
@ktcarl It's better than beating up on bad teams but losing to good ones? Idk man. I'm pretty pissed too. But seriously though, I guess I'd rather fall flat against bad teams but rise to good ones, cuz you feel like they can compete in the playoffs. If they're only in first place cuz they dominate bad teams but then lose when it's better competition, you'd feel like they're frauds. I mean, I know it's hard not to feel like they're frauds right now anyway, but that's at least something to think about
@ktcarl which.....we do. Swept the Marlins, series win vs Rangers, White Sox both times, Angels, swept Rockies both times, 3 of 4 against Toronto, beat the Tigers both times, Cardinals, Mets, and guess what? Swept the A's in 4. We do beat good teams and bad teams. You just always let the times they lose a series to a bad team affect you way too much. It's been a rough stretch, and God help us if we get swept by the A's today, but don't forget they also took 2 of 3 from a red hot AZ team that only won game 3 because Verlander is toast. Swept the Royals too. I'm frustrated, and have concerns about this offense showing up in the playoffs, but they were the 8th scoring offense in 2022, we're the 12th scoring offense this year and have missed Tucker for 3 months. I gotta think that with Tucker the whole year we'd be right about the same as 2022, and basically since mid May our pitching has been otherworldly. 5th fewest runs allowed this year and that includes April and half of May when Hunter Brown and Arrighetti couldn't get out of the first freaking inning they were getting lit up so bad. Don't go throwing this year away just yet. Hell, they were 14th in scoring in 2020 and finished 29-31 because they lost the last series of the year to the Rangers who were tanking, but suddenly in the playoffs they exploded. Swept Minnesota, offense went OFF against Oakland to win 3 of 4, and then if Altuve didn't forget how to throw a baseball, would've beat TB in 5, but still managed to be 1 win away from another WS. I've just seen enough over the last 7 years to feel like if they can just GET to the playoffs, they'll turn in to a different team.
Ugh. Credit to the A's, they're a better team than their record. So bad in the first month or so and much more solid since. But we gotta beat these guys!
Well, they’re not really a much better team than their record. They’re a little better as their record is .438. They’re 10-10 in their last 20 games, so .500. We are just worse than our record, losing 11 out of 20, so under .500. There is no discipline at the plate. They’re swinging at A LOT out of the strike zone! I don’t know, but it seems like we’re having many more fielding errors too. Let’s face it, and I’ll probably get crucified for this, the Astros are not that good, our division is just a weak division this season. 😮
Made no sense to bring HB back out for the 6th, his pitch count was high and they were making good contact on him all night. Espada lost us this game, the outcome was obvious.
TK and Blummer talking about postseason like it’s a done deal. Forget about the starting rotation, who’s gonna play 1B, is Alvarez going to play in the field or DH, what are they going to do with Diaz and Caratini, is JV even going to make the roster, etc etc etc. They need to play better in the last two and a half weeks to even make it to the postseason.
@emp0rizzle ......bro......Dubon is hitting over .300 with RISP. Tf are you talking about.... Ya, he chases a lot, so what? He's also top 5% in the entire MLB in lowest strikeout rate. Who fucking cares. Diaz chase rate is literally the exact same as Dubon, you gonna whine about him too?
The whole team has lost plate discipline. Look how many of the contacts in play were out of the zone tonight, creating soft contact and fly outs. I don’t know much about the coaching but I know we have a fine pitching coach. I just wonder if our batting coach is not great? Is there any such person as a batting coach? Anyhow, we’re under .500 in the last 20 games and the Ms beat a team that’s much better than Oakland in the Padres tonight, closing what was a 6 game lead to 3.5. My prediction at all star break was that the Ms will go into a tear in September and finish ahead of us. Hope I’m wrong!
@@Wikikiman hitting coaches have been Alex Cintron and Troy Snitker since 2019. Hmmmm.....I wonder what could've changed between the last 4+ years to this year, where suddenly their approach is totally different? 🤔 Can you say......Espada???
Leave it to Pena to hit into double plays whenever we have a guy on 3rd base and on 1st with only one out! That guy never seems to fail to deliver the death blow to our chances at scoring! He must be one of the greatest double play hitters of all time! Damn you no good……!
@@grandwonder5858 I agree. He has a lot of errors to his name too. He’s now 26 so should be at the pinnacle of his ability. Batting below 270 at what should be the height of his career, with increased errors says a lot I think. Hope they trade him while they can get something for him. That strut he does with no talent to strut for annoys me too!
Even Hunter Brown can't beat the A's. When you walk the #9 hitter whom is currently 0 for 30...you're struggling. The Astros are mesmerized by last place teams. The batting is anemic. The bad thing is that after the 'Stros get swept tomorrow night they travel to California to play a 3 game series against an even worse team than the A's. The Halos. WTF is going on here?! Why did the Astros pick up Wayward or Heyward (.111)? He's worse than Chas (.211) and Jake the Rake (.222). It was said when they picked him up that he is veteran that has a WS ring and can give the Astros some veteran leadership. He strikes out a lot. The other Astros players already know how to do that.
@ktcarl well.....to be fair, that's what everyone said about picking up Gamel too because he was just as bad when they got him, and he's turned out well. They picked these guys up for pennies, gave them a shot, one hit and one didn't. Although going forward, I'd definitely prefer that Heyward is cut or rides the bench and let Chas try to build off his recent hot streak. In fact, I'd actually rather see Heyward out there trying to figure it out than letting Jake the loose helmet Meyers continue to waffle around. Guy had his chance. I'm so fucking over Jake Meyers dude. I just do not understand what the hell they saw in him to give him the opportunity they did this year and completely blow up the progress Chas had made last year.
Consistency wins championships The Astros are streaky I have said it all season and nothing has changed my mind The ASTROS WILL NOT MAKE THE POSTSEASON!!!!
We would have wrapped it up had we still had Dusty Baker. That tells you who is to blame for this season. Inept coach who was only hired to save money instead of paying for a real coach.
@SaulGoodman-w2x maybe he could have playedd more but we had maldy who was a better fielder. You have a hitting only single minded view of baseball obviously. Even if that was one mistake, Espada makes an abundant amount of bone head decisions and has ZERO respect from the players, some have admitted. They all respected Dusty and busted ass to get him a ring. Man, go get a clue.
Oh yeah we'd be so much better with Crusty who refused to play Diaz over Maldy who was DFA'd by the worst team in baseball. That's what we need, more mind numbing stupidity from our manager, that's how we will win!
