That was the most atrocious umping I've ever seen. We got out of this game with a win by the skin of our teeth. But a win is a win, and HB did great! Also great play by Kessinger. I had forgotten all about him.
Yep, and in the late innings of a close game. With the game being faster paced now and the players so much better, MLB needs to add more umpires with more specific jobs other than calling balls, strikes, and outs.

I don't think he was trying to help San Diego on purpose. Otherwise he wouldn't have called that balk. The umpiring to me was just incompetent.
@Icecreamforcrowtoo see, and this is what irritates me so much when everyone starts screaming about the umpires being "against us". Like....bro, he missed plenty of strike zone calls that went against SD too. The HR Machado hit? After one terrible strike call against him, and one 50/50 call that went against him too. And yea, the balk also. Brennan Miller wasn't trying to help SD win, he just sucked tonight period.

@imnotcreativeenoughh, Bullshit! He had to call at least one questionable call against the Padres to throw people off from his cheating ways! That way people like you can point to that one bad call that he has made against the Padres and say, “See, he made a bad call against the Padres too so how could you accuse him of cheating against the Astros?” FYI, he might have made one or two strike calls against the Padres that were borderline calls that could go either way, but he made dozens of such calls against the Astros the entire night! So please spare me with this: “But he called it the same way for both teams” nonsense!

Second time this year, that this has happened to Altuve....I think he was ejected last time too. That ump needs to be suspended. Besides, not knowing the strike zone, he missed the Altuve play, then compounded the mistake by tossing him, then missed the HBP on Pofar. Altuve and Espada weren't arguing balls and strikes, so I don't understand the quick hook. The ump was acting like a badass, and trying to flex his authority. He's not a badass, he's just a bad umpire.
Thank you chili, i had to be up at 430 the next morning so I didnt get to finish watching the game. Went to bed after the 6th inning, this was the first thing i watched when i got up. Crazy game.
MLB is making one helluva case for robot officiating
They already have it on some tennis tournaments and it is absolutely awesome. Automatic immedaite calls - no one is arguing, no one is upset, just move on to the next point.

All this crying by the league for the need to speed up the game, but yet they allowed crooked umpires to call balls and strikes knowing full well most of them cheat their asses off or get the calls wrong all the time which would only lead to the players and coaches argue against them all the time, which would only slow down the game! I believe the reason the bigwigs in MLB are against using machines to call balls and strikes is because a few big time teams, such as the Yankees, Red Sox, and Cardinals, are against it because such machines would decrease their chances at winning championships again because these three teams have traditionally won numerous championships due to the favoritism that they got from the umpires calling balls and strikes that favored them and these teams carry a lot of weight due to their popularity and influence! If they have to play on a level playing field without the umpires cheating for them then it would greatly lessen their chances of winning another championship again! There’s no doubt about that!
They need to investigate the umpires for betting against the Stros.

Gotta say, gained a ton of respect for Profar. I know most people are probably saying just take your base and be happy the ump sucked. Nah, I respect the fact that he really wanted to get a hit and help his team win and was adamant about wanting to stay in the box. He's got love for the game and pride, gotta respect that.
Other note, holy hell that was a horribly officiated game. SOOO many called strikes that were out on all sides and for both teams. I know it feels like they're always against us and that's a bias that comes with having hella love for a team. But this was jus all around flat out disgusting . My god. MLB, get ya boys, they buggin.

I think we were all giving the same face that JV gives at 20:26 throughout the game. The umping was so insane that all Blummer could do was laugh. Even when the calls were against us. The umps must have money on the game. I'm actually glad they erroneously called the HBP against Profar, though.

A Padres fan saying he didn't get hit and gets on base then cries once Kess knocks the ball down for another W For H Town. Umpire tried to play the City of Houston. He For sure had a bet going 😂

I've seen bad calls, but that hit by pitch was personal, he was still mad at Altuve. Thats how you win a game. Hope it motivates the Astros to take it back personal and win the whole damn thing.... Again.

I can't believe Miller the umpire behind the plate made so many bad calls, sure maybe the Altuve call was missed but The hit by pitch was horrible. Even Zofar didn't think he got hit, Idk if I'm glad it didnt go our way but good job for Kessinger for coming in cold as ice and making that defensive play.

We all know the umpire and NY was bad, I'm not gonna focus on that. Let's just give hella credit to Hunter Brown, King Tuck, and Grae MF Kessinger for making that game winning play. I'm gonna say something sacrilegious here....and it breaks my heart to say it......I think Altuve getting ejected ended up winning the game for us......because I really don't think he makes that play. At best he knocks it down and it's tied. But ngl, I think there's a decent chance it gets passed him and SD walks it off.

And I'm just gonna get out ahead of anyone who's gonna instinctively defend Altuve and tell me I'm wrong, and I don't know what I'm talking about, Altuve is a great second baseman, and i get it. I do. It pains me to say it......but he's not. He's 5th percentile in defensive range with -7 defensive runs saved. I'm sorry.....he's legitimately a liability in the field at this point. Who knows, maybe he does make that play, and he still makes incredible plays from time to time....but I've seen too much this year where groundballs end up juuuust out of reach that really feel like they should've been gotten to.

jk, I agree. Kessinger made a great play. Who knows if Altuve would have made the play, but Kessinger was in the game and did make that play. Good for him.

@@imnotcreativeenoughh I've been saying that since 2022. I've never seen a pitcher get himself into such trouble and come out of it unscathed like Neris. It's pretty remarkable, but nerve-racking.
The entire night this f-ing ump kept on expanding the strike zone whenever the Astros were htting and shrinking it in a massive way whenever the Padres were htting! Time after time after time pirches that he called strikes against the Astros hitters he called balls over and over and over again whenever the Padres were hitting in his attempts to cheat for the Padtres so that the Padres would beat the Astros! And then simple reviews this entire officiating crew kept getting wrong and they continued to rule against the Astros in their plot to cheat against the Astros! It’s as if they tried to trick us into believing what everybody saw with their own eyes were not reality and that only what they wanted the audience to believe were actually reality! It was one of those “Don’t believe what you see, folks! Believe only what we say!” kind of a deal with these shady umps! If any officiating crew should be investigated for cheating against a team this one should be it! If not, then MLB should start do investigations into its officiating crews because it has some seriously crooked umpires in its organization and they must be investigated because it is absolutely criminal to force the Astros, or any other team for that matter, to have to beat both the Padres and a bunch of crooked umpires at the same time! No team should ever have to beat both its opponents and the umpires at the same time! That is not fair and not sportsmanlike and it is absolutely criminal that a team has to do that! And these dimwits keep telling me there is no cheating by the officiating crews in sports? GTFOH! Haven’t they heard Tim Donaghy admitting numerous times he and his fellow refs cheated for the Lakers against the Kings and that he had done numerous such cheatings for certain teams for years?

Harder has to be available next day too. He must not pitch more than 1 inning. This time he blew the save, but was brought in at the right time. What infuriated me in the past is when he was brought in on a game that was tied, with no save chance. He's your closer. Don't waste him on hold situations.

Umpires have been horrible all year. All the way around.
Profar should have refused to take the base. Get ejected or fined , whatever , but not accept what he knew wasn’t true.
He didn't want the walk, he wanted to stay in the box to try and get a hit. You can see him bitching at the umps after the game was over for getting the call wrong.
