I wish they kept the original video for American Life and then release Nothing Fails as the 2nd single as a continuation of the war/consequences of war themes. This song is so beautiful. It was rushed (and it shows), but Tears of a Clown is an art installation of how her ambition and career have been perceived by the men closest to her throughout her life. It's deeply sad in many way. It was her, mocking herself. Hence the heavy emphasis on American Life. No wonder Madame X came after this. She needed texture, badly. Lisbon gave that to her.
Madonna has always been a strong person and a survivor. She's been giving joy through her art and entertaining people all over the globe. She's a global star and shines bright like a Lucky Star. I have always thought she must have to live on the defensive every day... like most really famous people have to do to some degree. Fame can quickly make the public treat a star of Madonna's status as no longer human, but she is just as human as all of the rest of the human race. She has her flaws and has been called a bitch by many. A lot of people see only the privileged life she leads, but if you have ever been lucky enough to see her live or have gotten the chance to watch her rehearsal videos for her tours, then you know she has worked hard for that priveleged life. She's paid the price many times over. She can be a diva, but she's still just a human being trying to give her all to so many people at the same time. It's a stressful situation. It hurt me to see her that sad, but I also felt as though a huge brick wall came down for a brief moment in time and the world saw Madonna's real pain. She's cried in public before, but this was different. It was about one of her children. Her family is hers. We know only what the media spews out into the ether and then Madonna can either react publicly or not, but I think this time she wanted to connect with her fans and let her son know that she loves and misses him. I wish Madonna well. I know she's rich, famous, and a lot of people think she can be mean sometimes. We all have a cruel side sometimes. She can be mean, but I think it's a defense mechanism. She obviously loves her son, Rocco. She wouldn't get drunk on stage normally and show herself to be so vulnerable. No one wants to be a victim of public scrutiny, but she is all the time... 24/7. I feel bad that I am even writing this, but she should have flown to the hearing and stood there in person to show her son she misses him. We don't know the whole story and I hope we never do. I wish her and her family well... from the ether that is the internet.

I know is an unpopular opinion (I don’t care) but for me Madonna made her best songs (music and lyrics) post her 40’s between Ray of Light and Confessions on a Dance Floor. Thorough those song she made her vulnerable and show us the human underneath the Star, the fears and the pain underneath the self empowerment songs.
Watching this makes me wish she had never had children. So devastating to see her like this. Her spoiled brat Rocco will one day see what he did to his mother's legacy and I hope he regrets it, but it will be too late. Only her kid could have demolished her like this.
