I remember watching John's vids when I was around 12. I'm 23 now, recently returning to chess, and I'm so glad John is still making videos. On of the best chess teachers for sure.
My friend recommended to me your chess fundamentals videos after he kept beating me in games, and I've been a fan since. Lots of chess youtubers are fun to watch playing, but go over my head when they're calculating moves. I like how you make it educational and clear to understand. Glad your uploading again!
Always puts a smile to my face when I see a new video from you. Especially one with “stranding the enemy king and impaling him to a stake” in the title
I'm glad you're doing Climbing the Rating Ladder episodes with longer games again. I watched all your earlier ones and learned so much from you. I've missed seeing you on RUclips.
it always frustrates me when my opponent advances the e pawn (e5) but J here gave a master class on how to handle that..and when he said at the end (2:17 “i’m happy to play this position “ that sort of confirmation really cement the confidence! gonna definitively watch this instructive game multiple time…Thank you so much John 🙏
Its kinda funny at this point that I have watched many strong players like John play weaker players like these but the players never push pawn forward. I am early 1000's and you can bet my opponent would have played e5 and I would have been stumped what to do next
This is a really cool game. I could imagine it reproduced in The Art of Attacking Chess in the chapter how to attack the uncastled king. Opponent really needed to castle when they had the chance instead of Bd2
Love the instructional explanations John! Thank you for including the obvious reasonings behind your calculations. It’s really helping me in my games and knowing how to make good decisions myself
Hey John this is guys. I don't have time to watch this right now but I'm gonna drop a comment and a like anyway because the algorithm likes it and that way I won't forget later. I'm sure it's a great video, because it always is :) Edit: Watched the video. I found this one really interesting and instructive, thanks!
Thanks for the explanation about the opposite coloured bishops, this kind of info sprinkled in is super useful, especially when you're playing lower rated players, where the game itself is quite one sided and doesn't deliver as many informative moves
Blocking castling rights is such strong tactic! And my takeaway was when you said "when the king is trapped in the middle it's time to open up the middle". Going to put that in my pipe... Thanks John!!
Thanks John for yet another great video! I appreciate these longer standard games. I was a little skeptical at first because I liked your original climbing the rating ladder series in the 5 min format. But after playing a ton of blitz games and only going down in the ratings, I took your advice and started playing longer games and I've been slowly improving. I also realized I learn a lot more from your longer games because you have time to really talk through the position and talk about all the potential options. Awesome stuff - looking forward to your next one!
…Qa6 seemed so innocent to me at first. My brain was like “ahhhh white will block, then regain castling rights”. Then it didn’t, and the bishop came to help, all over. My main lesson learned: if you can stop the king castling, bust the centre.
Hey John! I had a question for you about this game. At 15:03 when you move your bishop to h6, why isn't it viable for white to take your bishop with the queen that sits on d2 (rather than moving it off the diagonal)?
Haha it's funny that you called out Ben Feingold because whenever you make an F pawn move I find myself thinking of his hatred of the F pawn, I find myself underutilizing it in my own games for this reason. I used to watch Ben's videos, but I became irritated at his political jabs. Thank you for keeping your videos good-natured and free of politics! Im sure to stay around as a subscriber!
I don’t understand why people rush their moves. I’d rather lose on time to a titled player, rather than being put to the sword with more time than I started.
Quick, half thunk out moves are disrespectful to the game in general, and to you. If they loose, who cares. If they win, that'll show everyone that they don't need to study. Ignore common guidelines, rules and doubt the value of knowledge. It is an unfortunate waste of potential to only skate half-assed across life thinking you know it all. Being precise and questioning is lost in today's society. What's valued is having your own beliefs, especially those made-up.
Got the ad-block enabled so I can follow along without interruption this time. High-level chess is too complex for dropping ads partway while expecting the audience not to lose focus. You need money? Just say so. But spare us the ads.

If I just watch John calculate enough times, maybe I will get better at doing it myself eventually. 😛
pause the video more and use engine extension to test your ideas
Calculate is for noobs. I just use engine

Thanks for all the new videos, John! Yours is the most pleasant, soothing and relaxing chess content out there, it is highly appreciated
CTRL is JB's best series.
Qa6 preventing castling was probably the best move of the game. So annoying to play against that kinda move

Love your vids bro. You are one of my fav chess youtubers
Thank you John ! This is my favorite chess channel!

This is my favourite chess series. Informative, educational, sets a great example on how to think thru a game. Thank you for posting new CTRLs!
Thx for all the content and new videos. I learn so much.
Thanks for all this new content in the climbing the rating ladder and standard category! Much appreciated!
Great video as always John!! Hopefully some team scandi soon!!

Beautifully performed, beautifully narrated as always!

Very instructive game Minnesota Fins. Thanks!
Very instructive match! Thank you John!
Thank you John! Learning quite a bit here
loved the opening choice, would love to see more!
My favourite chess series overall. Thanks John! Keep it coming :)
Green and white is the only worthwhile board. Thanks for bringing it back. I don't know much about chess - but this I know.
John I cannot thank you enough for these uploads! Definitely subbing to Twitch.
Awesome stuff John
Can't go wrong with an opening with as cool a name as Hyper-accelerated Dragon lol.
I've learned more from this channel than anywhere. How about a fundamental video on Pawn breaks? Not always sure when or which ones to use.
Another great video. Thanks John
Keep 'em comming John. Btw., there seems to be a boom going on in chess on the Internet right now. Hope you're capitalizing on it :)
Great video as always!

Me sitting there thinking he's hanging his bishop on bishop h6 for a good 3 mins before I see mate in 1 lol
nice game , John
Thanks katis! 😀
John, where have you been buddy? Glad to see you
I was watching this game live last night, poor guy :D
GOAT
I'm guessing 10 Bd2 was intended to stop Nb4, but it wasn't a priority since Nc3 would have answered that threat I think.
The Goat!
OTB, I have no issues going into the tank when I’m considering moves, but I struggle online. Especially since I’m a recovering bullet addict.

Still waiting for climbing the dating ladder mate
John!! I’m watching you! 😂
Sweet!
Hi John, I'm Khaledov on lichess :D
Finegold in shambles. Sometimes play f6!
Is 1 kamel how many cig they smoke or animals they ride.....
at 15:00, I see no reason why white wouldn't take the bishop with the queen on H6?
ah nvm mate threat
Did I miss something why not have the queen take the bishop on a6 for white?
Tip: At 75% speed, John (sounding sleepy, but still listenable) can resemble normal human speed of thought.
brutal
I don’t understand why people rush their moves. I’d rather lose on time to a titled player, rather than being put to the sword with more time than I started.
I don't get why John played Bh6 attacking the queen... The bishop was undefended. Why couldn't the white queen simply take it??
If the White queen lost contact with e2 then Black had mate in 1. So if Qxh6 then Black replies with Qxe2#.
I was rooting for you to play 22... Rf4 instead. It would've been a really pretty way to end the game
avoid any theory or lose quickly

That’s down to RUclips, not John…
@@SuperYtc1 Partly. Though if you look at Chess-Network, never once an interrupt ad, only pre and post. Makes it a lot better for learning.
