    That was the best Tony Atlas interview in your series. “It’s not wrestling anymore, it’s sports entertainment, Bob Backlund a great amateur and professional wrestler was replaced by Hulk Hogan an entertainer who had 5 moves. Dusty Rhodes who never saw the inside of a gym only had 3 moves.

    Ahhh, she was trained by Sputnik Monroe...my dad was from 1930s Memphis and told me of the wrestler who'd hang on Beale Street with the blacks, get arrested for being with the blacks, get a black lawyer to get him out and be back on Beale for drinks that night, this is mid late 1950s...Sputnik Monroe demanded the blacks get equal seating at his events and was the biggest drawer in Memphis, a heel to whites but beloved by my dad and aunts and uncles, the man needs more recognition.

      I heard they're going to make a movie about Monroe. I think that would definitely rock...and what he did to really open the doors for everyone was amazing.

      Yeah he didn't quite hold up Nick gulas, but he did say "hey we got empty seats there's fans that want to pay to see me, I get paid on a percentage of the gate, sell them the tickets or I'm not wrestling. Why should my fans be denied seeing me if we have empty seats? Why should I make less money because the stupid rules?"

      @Dan N Tony Atlas has talked about how guys with KKK membership cards in their wallet were offering and giving him free rides to the next town because they knew he was a money printing machine and wanted to talk Tony into working a program with them.
      As soon as they saw the amount of green they could put in their pockets black became their favourite colour

    Tony is absolutely correct the best wrestlers were the jobbers. Also the women and midgets wrestlers were used as special attractions.

    I like it when people share THEIR experience instead of being influenced by rumors or how other people feel. He had no issues with Moolah and only had kind things to say, so he spoke HIS truth. I respect that.

    Why does Mae Young get left out from discussions about women wrestling when she started 10 years before Moolah? It always seems like womens wrestling began with Moolah's time (when wrestlers speak about women's wrestling).

    They flew Andre in to Charlotte from Seattle , Terry Funk in from Texas , they flew Dusty Rhodes in from Los Angeles, but they wouldn't fly Moolah in from Greensboro North Carolina 90 miles away.

      Can't speak for the rules/regs for the Crocketts, but in WWF it's always six hours - anything six and under, you drive.

      You missed the whole point ... that’s how the women were treated period . If it wasn’t for the hard work Moolah put in , there might not even be women’s wrestling today, despite backlash from majority of the men .

    I met Moolah before in Miami....in early 80s....around 1984...very honorable...didn't see me bcuz I was a black kids...but she taught to be yourself in life...and this when she was wrestling against Windy...but in a era where they didn't give women opportunities Vince did...and the 15 minutes talk I had with her taught me only u can ruin your opportunities...dont let no one chase u from a victory...much luv...March 1984 Miami Moolah...💕

    What I don't understand is, why? Why were women so hated in that business? If a person could make you money...why kick them out because of gender? Mildred Burke , June Byers, Sensational Sherri, Luna Vachon, Chyna, Jaqueline, Lita (who inspired so many female wrestlers), Michelle McCool, Awesome Kong, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, Bailey, Charlie Morgan, (you get where I am going) are ALL money for sure.

      Back then the women's matches were mostly low/mid-card gimmick matches, i think.
      They didn't get the push so they couldn't really draw.
      It took creating an entire women's division to be able to push them properly, but now they're the stars of the show

They have the WWE network to watch it. The decline is actually much less severe than people thought it is. Bare in mind also WWE revenue year after year keeps on climbing. I honestly don't think the decline isn't really that bad

    Women's wrestling before the "Entertainment" era was a novelty to have something different on the card occasionally, same with the midget wrestlers. Now they would put a mouse on the card if it had charisma and was entertaining. That's partly why Wrestling is nearly dead.

      Nuh. Have you ever seen the younger generations these days? Many of them are super2 talented. I dont like wrestling these days bcoz I dont like their characters, too many clean shaven good looking guys/girls. But skills wise the younger generations are superb. Definitely far better than it was 40 years ago in terms of move sets, skill sets,etc

    Not defending Moolah but she was just doing what she seen the male Promoters do. It's unfortunate but if the same thing was going on with the guys, they wouldn't admit it out of fear of being emasculated. It was a dirty business and it's sad that anyone would feel they'd have to proposition themselves to get over

      The male promoters back then only promotes male wrestlers back then. Its tougher to promote females because they are easy targets and they also have such low demands back then.

    I respect what Tony has done in the business but sometimes his radar is off. He says there isn't much racism in wrestling, when everyone says the opposite. He talks about how great Moolah was and mistreated when it is heavily documented she was very evil. He talks how he was brought to a racist bar and barely made it out, but it was a rib. How dick Murdock wasn't that racist, he was a card carrying Klan member 🤔

    I completely agree with the people who knew moolah best. And you can say that it was the girls she trained but i think differently. People these days react so negatively to allegations. If someone says you did something then you are considered guilty until proven innocent.

      If after 50 years of promoters lying blatantly isn't enough for you to KNOW they are hiding shady practices. Moolah was a literal monopoly on female wrestling, you COULD NOT break out without training with her and she took FULL advantage of it. 1 person calls you a duck, no big deal. 30 ladies call you a duck, well, where's the pond 🤗💯

      @@SeanCarterCFH got to remember, different time, different way of life, back then women needed every chance they had to make money, moolah did what she did, back when i was working as a roustabout back in the 80's i was the same, you did what you could when you could just to pocket some extra cash, i took every job from coal mining to cashier, sometimes i took jobs from shady guys who would pay you extra just to turn a blind eye to people getting there legs broke, different times different people

    I don't know from nothing about her or others of her era but I know female nature. It wouldn't be the first time a woman lied about another woman even when there wasn't a reason to lie. If it's one person saying something nasty about another person no matter the gender treat it as rumor without evidence and therefor unproven.
