One possible correction. You don't need to run the BlueBoard app to access the Midi connections. There is a mode setting where you press the C button when you turn it on and that enables plain MIDI over Bluetooth without needing to run the BlueBoard app at the same time. In a lightweight setup using an old iPad you can use all the CPU cycles you can get! This may help reduce latency just a little bit in older devices.

This is an awesome tutorial Gary! I am definitely interested in doing this soon. Does the Bias FX mobile app allow you to use a looper with your Bluetooth foot controller? I can't find that information anywhere on the internet. Thanks again!
Hello Oscar, thank you for the kind comment and glad my video could help. I personally haven't tried that yet, but I do think it should be possible, especially if you are using a third party app or something like that. Sorry couldn't help with this one yet :)
Hello Swalsh, yes you can, you can long press button A or B to switch between different banks of patches when you are in "program change" mode. I use a single bank of patches for each song, so I have to switch banks for different songs, and the Blueboard does it just fine. Hope this helps :)
Hello, this requires an actual amp, you can't plug in this rig to a speaker. I usually plug in to either PA system on a venue, or to a clean amp at home for practice. Hope this helps :)
That is indeed a package, it comes with a whole bunch of amps and effects. There are 3 different kinds of package for the amps and effects: standard, professional, and elite. Great video thanks ! How practical is this setup for use in a live situation like jamming in a studio with a band ? Is there any latency ? What's the total cost of all the gear ? Thank you
Hi there, I am using this exact rig to play live on my church since 2018, here's a recent video about it ruclips.net/video/vCQ9E8Z-Aig/видео.html There are slight latency when switching patches, but when you are just using one patch and use the controller to turn effects on and off, there is no latency. Total cost about US$500-600 (iPad Air 2 $200, software about $100, iRig Pro Duo $100, power bridge & accessories etc about $100), depending on which iPad model that you want to use it can also be more expensive. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the video, just what I was looking for! If I already bought Bias FX 2 Elite for desktop, do you know if I need to buy another license for iPad?
Hello JohanFire, thank you for the kind comment! You do need to buy separate license for iPad as far as I recall, the mobile and the desktop license are separate. But you can exchange presets from desktop to iPad by saving the preset to Tonecloud. Hope this helps!
Hi Omar, with the iRig Pro Duo, you can definitely output your sound to a sound system or amplifier. Just plug a 1/4 inch instrument cable from the output of the iRig to your amp. Hope this helps :)
I did, couldn't remember the number but I could not notice the latency during testing, so I don't think it is a problem. Used this rig to play live as well with no problem.
Thanks kak, belum pernah coba pakai expression pedal untuk rig iPad, ini malah baru coba2 "control change" mode untuk Blueboard, biar ga usah ganti2 patch, tinggal hidup matiin effect di Bias FX satu2 aja hehehe
Great video! Would you recommend this setup more than Line 6 Pod Go? when I calculated the entire cost for the ipad+ irig Duo+ blueboard+ powerbridge + Bias Fx etc you are talking about 500+ dollars.. Pod go is 480 dollars. What would be the benefit of having this setup more than pod go?
Hello Jonathan, thank you for the comment! To be honest, there aren't that much benefit when comparing the iPad Bias FX rig with a dedicated multi-FX which already has great sound quality. The only benefits are: 1. if you already own an iPad, you can save a lot when compared with buying a separate FX unit 2. you can customize which pedals/amps etc that you want to have, you don't have to buy everything outright 3. the level of customization in Bias Amp(assuming you are purchasing Bias Amp as well) is quite amazing, I haven't found other FX unit that can replicate this level of flexibility i.e. changing tubes, transformers, messing around with the power section, preamp section, etc. Hope this helps! Cheers 😊
Yes you can, you can either use GarageBand built in sound and use the rest of the rig as an interface for the guitar, but you can also use Bias FX or Bias Amp as inter-connected app in Garageband and record the sounds from the Bias apps in Garageband. Hope this helps!
Hi Gary! This is an awesome tutorial! I am planning to build one like this. Do you just connect your whole setup to a cabinet on live performances? I am assuming you use a head or combo first?
Hello n00bfck, I do connect my setup mostly to a Roland Jazz Chorus these days, but I also plugged in directly to the PA or to the mixer of the front of house. Hope this helps :)
Hi KingofPho, you don't have to, you can just use the single iRig Pro, or any interface in that matter. I use the Pro Duo simply because it's what I already have. Hope this helps :)
Hey Gary, thanks so much for this video! Can this set up be used for busking? I already have an amp and I was looking for something to help me play in the streets.
Hello Matias, iPad doesn't have input jack, it does have lighting/USB C port(depending on the model), and headphone jack(depending on the model also). My iPad Air 2 does have both headphone jack and lighting port.
@@MatiasVega08 Hello Matias, it does cost US$19.99 for the essential license, and about US$64.99 for the full license, and integration with Bias Amp that I also use in the video. Hope this helps!
Really helpful video. One question: If I have a guitar and microphone connected to my iPad through an interface, can I use a setup like this to modify the guitar sound (perhaps to just one sound for me using garage band), and modify the vocal sound independently (adding some basic things like a bit of reverb)?
Hello Rishi, I haven't tried connecting multiple output on iPad i.e. in Garage Band or similar app. Maybe you can do that, but it will depend on both the app and the interface.
I just plug it into a clean amp for this video. For my live setup, I usually plug into a direct box, then the signal get splitted to both FOH mixer to PA and to a clean amp as my monitor. See more here: ruclips.net/video/vCQ9E8Z-Aig/видео.html
I was trying your setup, but I record the video while I am playing using these ipad, but the result is the video detecting only clean chanel, can you please help me?
Hello Ronny, I'm sorry I have no experience using amp that doubles as an interface. In theory it should work but I rather double check and test it directly before moving forward. Hope this helps!
For creating music, definitely 128gb is preferred, but I think you can get by with 64gb if you are okay with using cloud solutions for storing the files(Google Drive, etc)
Nice video! Can you switch between program change and control change, or from latch changing to stomp box on/off, without going into the blue board app?
Hi Mike, thank you for the comment. I haven't found a way to do that, right now when I play live, I decide before hand which change mode do I want to choose, program or control change, depending on the songlist.
Hello! I was using iPad Air 2 from 2015 I believe in this video, and it works well enough without glitches on that particular iPad. Unfortunately I dropped the iPad one day and the screen is now broken along with the port, so now I am switching to an iPad Mini 2019, which has similar spec when compared to the iPad Air 2. Hope this helps! Cheers 🙂

Hi Gary, I need your advice for a simple outfit comprising of an Electro acoustic guitar, iPad Air (2014) and an iRig2 (not bought yet) to be connected to a Marshall AS50. How will it work e.g. will connect iPad Hdphone output to the Marshall be the solution? Thanks for a prompt reply. Regards
Hi Roland, I'm not familiar with iRig2, but I imagine it should have both headphone out and amplifier out. So you should be able to connect the amplifier out of the iRig to your AS50. Hope this helps :)
Great video. Question: both FX and Amp 2 are working properly, i can see the signal working on the iPad software but no audio. Same on the iPhone. Tons of people online having same problem. Any tips? Guitar into jam+, jam+ into ipad pro.
Hello Adam, seemed like it's the interface that potentially caused the issue. I think you should try another interface and see if the issue persists. Hope this helps :)
The software comes in different pricing options, but Bias Amp 2 and Bias FX 2 Mobile are about US$60-80 combined with standard plans. iRig Pro Duo costs about $100, Powerbridge is also about $100, and Blueboard is another $100. Hope this helps!
Help needed!! I'm currently using the Irig stomp i/o pedal as my interface with my ipad pro 2018 model. My output amp is a Peavey vyper 75 set to clean with all effects turned off. For some reason when I use any downloaded tone cloud presets I'm hearing noise interference, Usually humming even when I'm muting strings. I've watched various videos on grounding loop issues or dirty electrical signals, I've tried various plug sockets positioning the amp in different areas of my home. I'm just a bedroom guitarist, so I'm not all that clues up with the technical side of music. Honestly thought it was just plug and play but I'm wrong. Anyone have any suggestions.
Hello Anthony, seemed to me like the possible cause for that is the dongle that you use to connect the iRig Stomp I/O to your iPad Pro. Maybe to mitigate this issue, try to use noise gate on Bias FX first, and see if it helps. If even noise gate doesn't work, then I think check the dongle. Hope this helps
@@Gary_W I think I fixed the issue by using the aux in instead of the imput as the amp I use is a modeling amp and it may of interfered with the effects. 👍
Bias fx mesti download yg versi app ya?
I have a guitar, amp, irig 2 and iPad. I wish to play my guitar with the effects from Ultimate Guitar and Tonebridge through my amp. Can you tell me how to set that up?
Halo kak Rendra, iPad Air 2 nya saya beli 4jt kalau ga salah, softwarenya sekitar 300rb kalau beli license yang lengkap, lalu iRig Pro Duo sekitar 1jt, Blueboard juga sekitar 1jt. Semoga membantu kak
I got my blueboard, it can change the patch, but it can’t on/off the individual stomp, i already turn into “ctrl change”, its seemslike a bug or something-____-
Hi Gary, do you know if it is possible to control more than four individual pedals on Bias FX? I have a patch with about eight individual effects but I think blueboard cant control it all, what do you recommend to me.
Hello Roberto, I don't think it's possible yet with blueboard. I am facing the same problem. Right now I'm trying to simplify my patch so that I only use the effects that I absolutely need.
Iya kak sekarang udah naik harganya, jadi mahal, dulu beli perasaan belum segitu harganya. Saya baru coba iRig Pro I/O tapi ga bisa buat main live, ga ada outputnya. Tetep paling oke iRig Pro Duo kalau untuk live kak.

3. the level of customization in Bias Amp(assuming you are purchasing Bias Amp as well) is quite amazing, I haven't found other FX unit that can replicate this level of flexibility i.e. changing tubes, transformers, messing around with the power section, preamp section, etc.
Hope this helps! Cheers 😊
@@Gary_W Thank you Gary for writing back. This is really helpful! Cheers! Just subscribed to your channel now.
@@jonathanpious6637 Thanks so much! Glad I could help :)
Just a question: is it possible use only GarageBand to play on the amp?
@@Gary_W how exactly? Most small venues I've been to only provide XLR inputs to the Front of House
@@geraltofrivia9963 adapter dude
Do I have to use the pro duo or can I just use the single one?
Hi KingofPho, you don't have to, you can just use the single iRig Pro, or any interface in that matter. I use the Pro Duo simply because it's what I already have. Hope this helps :)
im using scarlet 2i2 interface but will thw ipad not able to heat up bec using a phone it heats alot
Hey Gary, thanks so much for this video! Can this set up be used for busking? I already have an amp and I was looking for something to help me play in the streets.
Absolutely, you can use this for playing live. Cheers!
Is this setup good to use through headphones for silent practice? Is there a way to connect wireless headphones? Thanks
Hi Nic, you could definitely use a headphone for silent practice, as well as to fine tune your tone carefully. Hope this helps :)
Does the iPad have jack input? I'm asking cause I have an irig2
Hello Matias, iPad doesn't have input jack, it does have lighting/USB C port(depending on the model), and headphone jack(depending on the model also). My iPad Air 2 does have both headphone jack and lighting port.
@@Gary_W thanks!
@@Gary_W btw the bias fx app that you have on your iPad is it free? Or it cost something?
@@MatiasVega08 Hello Matias, it does cost US$19.99 for the essential license, and about US$64.99 for the full license, and integration with Bias Amp that I also use in the video. Hope this helps!
@@Gary_W thanks a lot
Really helpful video. One question: If I have a guitar and microphone connected to my iPad through an interface, can I use a setup like this to modify the guitar sound (perhaps to just one sound for me using garage band), and modify the vocal sound independently (adding some basic things like a bit of reverb)?
Hello Rishi, I haven't tried connecting multiple output on iPad i.e. in Garage Band or similar app. Maybe you can do that, but it will depend on both the app and the interface.
Not sure how you connected to amplification or speaker for live sound
I just plug it into a clean amp for this video. For my live setup, I usually plug into a direct box, then the signal get splitted to both FOH mixer to PA and to a clean amp as my monitor. See more here: ruclips.net/video/vCQ9E8Z-Aig/видео.html
I was trying your setup, but I record the video while I am playing using these ipad, but the result is the video detecting only clean chanel, can you please help me?
What if you want to switch between more than 4 presets live?
I think you have to use a different MIDI foot controller for that, so that you can get more than 4 presets.
Does the sound carry over when switching channels or does it cut off?
It does cut off when you are switching presets, but if you are only turning effects on and off, there's no cut off.
How to connect it to the amplifier?
You can connect the output of the iRig Pro Duo to a clean amplifier. That's how I usually do it 😊
Would an amp that works as an audio interface work? instead of using that audio interface and as the same time as the Speaker?
Hello Ronny, I'm sorry I have no experience using amp that doubles as an interface. In theory it should work but I rather double check and test it directly before moving forward. Hope this helps!
Hey, do you recommend an ipad with 64gb or 128gb? Is 64gb enough storage for creating music with it?
For creating music, definitely 128gb is preferred, but I think you can get by with 64gb if you are okay with using cloud solutions for storing the files(Google Drive, etc)
Nice video! Can you switch between program change and control change, or from latch changing to stomp box on/off, without going into the blue board app?
Hi Mike, thank you for the comment. I haven't found a way to do that, right now when I play live, I decide before hand which change mode do I want to choose, program or control change, depending on the songlist.
Hi Gary. What generation iPad is the minimum requirement to run the software?
Cheers 🙂
@@Gary_W Hello Gary. Thank you so much for getting back to me with an answer. It will really help when I have to make my decision. I found more people on RUclips playing live with a digital rig. Mas Gary, nek hardware e nganggo iRig UA iso gak, Mas?
🙏🏻
Belum pernah coba kak, tapi mungkin bisa kak.
Pake irig UA ngelag setau sya,,mending pake line 6 sonicport
Hi Gary, I need your advice for a simple outfit comprising of an Electro acoustic guitar, iPad Air (2014) and an iRig2 (not bought yet) to be connected to a Marshall AS50. How will it work e.g. will connect iPad Hdphone output to the Marshall be the solution? Thanks for a prompt reply. Regards
Hi Roland, I'm not familiar with iRig2, but I imagine it should have both headphone out and amplifier out. So you should be able to connect the amplifier out of the iRig to your AS50. Hope this helps :)
Can i use iRig HD2 for the interface?
Hi Stephen, I haven't personally tried iRig HD2, but it should work in my opinion. Goodluck!
It does work! I have this rig but use the Irig hd2 and it is awesome
Hi Gary, I would like to know, since you use the Bias FX and Bias Amp App, is there a looper function for it?
I don't think there's looper in the older Bias FX version, however the newer Bias FX 2 Mobile has built in looper now.
No latency?
Negligible, I can't feel any latency, it just feels like playing normally.
Hope this helps :)
bro hm did it cost you for all of this?except for the ipad ang guitar?tia
Delay pedal blue board
Bedroom guitarist here! Can I use it with my studio monitors? Thanks
Absolutely Carlos, the stereo output of the iRig Pro Duo will work together with a pair of studio monitors. Hope this helps!
Bhsa Inggris logat jawa yaa bg👍👏🏻👏🏻
Hehehe maaf saya medok Inggrisnya 😅😅😅
Bias fx mesti download yg versi app ya?
I have a guitar, amp, irig 2 and iPad. I wish to play my guitar with the effects from Ultimate Guitar and Tonebridge through my amp. Can you tell me how to set that up?
Hello Andrew, iRig2 should have an amp out, so you can connect the amp out of iRig2 to your amp, just like my setup in this video.
Thanks for the tutorial! You just made me spend 77€!!! Haha! greetings from Germany!
You are very welcome, greetings from Indonesia, enjoy your iPad rig! :)
kak, kira2 total hbis brp biayanya kak
Halo kak Rendra, iPad Air 2 nya saya beli 4jt kalau ga salah, softwarenya sekitar 300rb kalau beli license yang lengkap, lalu iRig Pro Duo sekitar 1jt, Blueboard juga sekitar 1jt. Semoga membantu kak
Gary W beli dimana irig duo 1jt bro?
Murah banget irig pro duo sejuta kak
Bang bisa pakai guitar link gak bang ?
Harusnya bisa kak, saya belum coba, tapi asal support iOS bisa kak
I got my blueboard, it can change the patch, but it can’t on/off the individual stomp, i already turn into “ctrl change”, its seemslike a bug or something-____-
Hello, you have to move that patch to a bank with no other patch on it to make it work. Hope this helps :)
Right now I'm trying to simplify my patch so that I only use the effects that I absolutely need.
iRig Pro DUO harganya 4 jt kurang sekarang mas 😅
Iya kak sekarang udah naik harganya, jadi mahal, dulu beli perasaan belum segitu harganya. Saya baru coba iRig Pro I/O tapi ga bisa buat main live, ga ada outputnya. Tetep paling oke iRig Pro Duo kalau untuk live kak.
@@Gary_W kenapa ga irig 2 yg punya outputnya kak buat main live?
@@Gary_W oia juga gimana dng Behringer MIDI Foot Controller FCB1010? Apa bisa dipakai gantinya blue board kak?
Does it work with IPHONE?
It should work with iPhone, but I still recommend using iPad instead because of the larger screen.
