The great part about a Journey concert back in the day was that they sounded exactly like the album. Steve Perry could hit all the notes and that band was tight.
@@xoxxobob61 This is true, although I heard a vocal coach say that this is the point in his career where Steve Perry began to hurt his voice. The idea is that, prior to this, Perry was more like a long-distance runner of a singer, using falsetto and pacing himself, but with this song and album, he became more of a weightlifter of a singer, pushing everything as hard as possible, sans falsetto. It gave the songs tremendous power, but it apparently took a toll on his voice. He still has a great voice, I heard his recent album! But it's a different instrument than it once was, and it doesn't sound like something you could chalk-up just to the aging process.
Loveee this song. Their biggest hit is Don't Stop Believin' -- you'll know it the second you hear it. And lead singer Steve Perry sang on the original We Are The World.
You'd think it would be their biggest hit (as it is definitely one of their most recognized), but as far as the US _Billboard_ charts go, it is their 4th biggest on the Hot 100 (on which they haven't had a #1, and their highest on it being _Open Arms_ at #2), and 5th biggest for Mainstream Rock (on which _Separate Ways_ is their only #1). It is, however, their biggest hit in the UK (charting 6th). Going by average and how many countries it managed to chart in, _Who's Crying Now_ is probably their biggest hit. The album it's on (Escape) is their only #1 album on the charts. None of this is intended to diminish them. After all, they've broken the top 10 in the US with 5 studio albums, 1 live album, 5 singles on the Hot 100 chart, 6 singles on the Mainstream Rock chart, and 4 singles on the Adult Contemporary chart. All things considered, they're no slouches. :)
This song, Don’t Stop Believing(this is the one most people know), Open Arms, Lights, Faithfully, Anyway You Want It, Wheel In The Sky, and Lovin’, Squeezin’, Touchin’ were the big songs when Steve Perry was in the band.
You're thinking of of "Don't Stop Believin' ". In addition to being a big hit in 1981, it climbed the charts again in 2007 when it was featured in the Sopranos finale.
Journey pumped out so much great music in the 70s and 80s and Steve Perry’s unparalleled vocals drove this band to superstardom. You could spend an entire month just reacting to their songs, they had so much great music. Definitely more Journey please.
I'll never forget the fist time I saw this video. I had never seen a journey video prior to this though I listened to them quite a bit. He opened his mouth and I thought "how does such a powerful voice come out of such a small person?!" Steve Perry is life though ❤
If you've never heard all Journeys great music, you have really missed out on something great! Phenomenal voice and he can hold notes longer than seems humanly possible! More Journey!!!
You’ve heard their songs; that’s why he sounds familiar. You’re just young. This takes me back to high school. Love it. Thanks for the memories! Loved the original Journey. Stone In Love is one of my favorites.
You should listen to Any Way You Want It, Open Arms, Faithfully, and Don’t Stop Believing all by Journey. These four along with this one is probably is their best songs in my opinion.
Journey has been around since the 70's so there ya possibleity u have heard them great song and reaction I enjoy seeing new people getting into older rock keep it up my friend
Anyting journey is fine by me. The reason why you think you've heard of it is cuz they have a ton of hits and a huge Library. Steve Perry has very unique voice. His range is just so wide he has a 7 octave voice only one other person has one higher than him and that is Freddie Mercury from Queen. But my favorite will always be Steve Perry
Journey has some great songs for sure, Wheel In The Sky, Don't Stop Believing, Faithfully, Lovin' Touchin' Squeezing (so good!), Lights. I'd love more Journey ♥
Have you ever turned on a radio ever? Been to karaoke? Been into a store that a radio was on? How have you not heard of journey?! Lol. A study showed to this day there is almost no moment of time their music isn’t playing on the radio somewhere
Have you heard a little song called "Don't Stop Believin"? That's probably one of their biggest hits ever. (And if you haven't heard it, you should definitely fix that!) Another great one of theirs is "Faithfully".
That was filmed down at the warfs in New Orleans . I lived in New Orleans and wanted to go see this being filmed but the security was so damn high.. Journey is one of my favorite bands. Faithfully is one of my favorite song.. YOu should do Wheel in the sky.. Also do some Loverboy songs , Bob Segar, Styx, Reo Speedwagon..
I am currently taking piano lessons and I think this song would be a really good one to learn to play. This is one of those songs that I want to learn to play on the piano. Journey has had A LOT of great hit songs, according to my sources they came out 1973 and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017
You are refreshing...just found your channel, been smiling watching video after video and you yourself have a very magnetic nice personality, got another sub. Blessed to have stumbled upon you
You just listened to the Greatest VOICE EVER!!!! Steve Perry!!!! Former lead singer of Journey!! I've been a fan of their's since 1978!!!! I've seen them twice in 1983, once in 1986 and Perry's first solo tour in 1994!! Classic Journey has my heart forever!!! Other songs you should listen to are..............'After The Fall, Chain Reaction, Edge Of The Blade, Lights, Wheel In The Sky, Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin', The Party's Over, Escape, I'm Cryin', Still They Ride, Winds Of March' Songs with Greg Rolie 'Feeling That Way, Anytime, Just the Same Way' and well so on and so on!!
Don't Stop Believing, Faithfully, and Open Arms. You gotta listen to those 3. and I can almost guarantee youve heard at least one of those if not all three
Judy Jones thank you 🙏 I scrolled through hoping someone made this suggestion. I know Mariah Carey did a cover and she did a good job but I think Steve sang it best. I love his voice. One of the best in rock. (Freddie will always be my favorite)

Journey was one of the greatest 80s rock bands. The song you presented was recorded around 1983 or 1984, over 35 years ago, probably before you were born, Billy!
Journey is a really great band, the lead singer Steve Perry is an amazing vocalist. You have heard their songs before guaranteed. You should check out more of their catalog Faithfully is my favorite but there's so many and I bet you'd recognize at least 3 if them
You've probably heard a lot of their songs at some point on the radio, just never paid attention, and didnt realize it was them. They were huge, and still get a lot of play on classic rock stations.
*I know from my experiences in life with people who first listen to Journey (whether at a bar or whatever) some people who don't know Journey that well will get the lead singers voice confused with Survivor(Eye Of The Tiger song from “Rocky III”), Jimi Jamison from Survivor had a really unique voice, strong, grasp and almost a little similar sounding to Steve Perry, but without the range of Perrys. -- PLEASE react to Survivor.. They also had a popular song from the original 1984 Karate Kid and Survivor provided the end credits song that hooked everyone in!. Listen to the song because I believe it's a REALLY underrated song...and he hits those ranges and come very close to Steve Perrys. It's called The Moment of Truth" by Survivor. Enjoy!. But I'm betting that's the voice you are reminded of.*
Steve Perry, the singer for Journey has a voice range and control almost as close to Freddie's! You'll love his voice and lots of songs by Journey. This makes me want to listen to my Journey albums! Thanks! 👍🏼

Wrong! He did Street Talk (the CD on Sherri is on)during a break,he was still part of Journey, he did the CD "for the love of strange medicine" after he left Journey.
Journey is one of the most classic of classic rock bands. Sooo many songs. They were inducted into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame no too long ago and it was about time. Steve Perry has one of the most iconic voices in history and the lead guitar, Neil Schon is one of the best guitarists as well. Steve Perry is no longer their front man - he left the band and did his own thing. Neil Schon was looking for a new front man I'm guessing, early 2000s and found a young Filipino man on You Tube who sounded so close to Steve (and who was actually homeless and would literally sing for his his supper) and brought him to the States and he's been with them ever since. They're still in the concert circuit (saw them last summer with Def Leppard) and they still sound awesome So keep checking them out - you won't be sorry.
Had a lot of hits Lovin touchin squeezing Any way you want it Open arms Faithfully Wheel in the sky Who's crying now When you love a woman Send her my love Stone in love I'll be alright without you Lights Girl can't help it Only the young Feeling that way Be good to yourself Just the same way Walks like a lady Etc,,,
They don't call him 'The Voice' for nothing.
The great part about a Journey concert back in the day was that they sounded exactly like the album. Steve Perry could hit all the notes and that band was tight.
I've seen Journey live in concert and Steve Perry's vocal skills are NO JOKE ! He sounds better live.

Izzy of Albion power ballads!! Yaaaassssss!!!

Omgosh! How have you never heard of Journey?! You're gonna dig them. Steve Perry is amazing.
Steve Perry is the lead singer. I'm sure you've heard the song Don't Stop Believin. That's him singing that. Jon Bon Jovi dubbed him The Voice.
You: I have never heard Journey
Me: Yes you have.
You may not know it, but you have.
Yeah it’s kinda hard not to if I’m being honest
Every department store, arcade, movies, skate rinks, etc etc.

No he really isn't he is considered one of the all time great rock voices.
You may have heard "Oh Sherrie" lol everyone's had to of at least heard that one. I believe that was on his solo album though.
Separate Ways was a crazy smash hit that came out on their “Frontiers” record in 1983.

If you like Steve’s voice, he did a solo album and I really remember the song “Oh Sherrie”. You get to hear his beautiful range.
Foolish Heart was a better song.
Those guys were all top-notch in their respective disciplines....Steve Smith is an American legend on the drums.
