  • Just another thing to catch my attention while stripping this engine, which I will be keeping in mind, should there be any charging issues experienced once this rather troubled machine is running again!

Those alternator wires allways end up hard and brittle even on the new encapsulated type. Trident is running a treat. Thanks for the site Paul.

Coo that guy really got sold a pup with that supposedly rebuilt engine - looks like it was thrown together with little care involved - how would they miss gasket punch at barrel and bare wires on stator - Roy Orbison glasses on in dark shed 😎🤣

Great job as always Paul, with your perfectionism!
Roll on, when you sort out my little teething problems, As I'm loathe to ride it as it is.

First job as a 15 year old mechanic was to eliminate knocking noise on BSA A10 engine. With advice from a older mechanic it WAS eliminated by putting about 4 fag papers behind big end shell bearings!
I'm now 79! Never taken part in a bodge since!
Love your videos Sir, can they be recorded at a much higher volume please, 64 years of noisy engines have done a good job on my hearing but others in the room are complaining they can't hear.
    Have a good Monday.

Every expense spared on this engine

I spotted this stator first thing it was visible it's not only old and low output but prone to problems related to being unprotected in primary compartment. Why not to install 3 phase stator when prices of them are close to 1 phase and be done with worries about not enough power for lights and ignition? Anyway the cost of it would be small percentage of the cost of rebuilding this engine.

Is this a '63 or'64 engine? Those alternator wires become both stiff and brittle. The windings tend to loosen and chafe on the stator poles, otherwise they are no bother.

Could you not simply solder new wires onto the stator to replace the brittle ones?

Possibly, although it is a very fiddly job [for me, at least]

@@paulhenshaw4514 I can understand your reluctance. I repaired the wiring on the stator of a friend's Harley Shovelhead a few years ago after the connector melted - there was a lot of swearing that day.

    Poor bloody owner.
This is just like the stuff im going through with my previously purchased Honda cj250t.
    I feel his pain.
    All the best David.
