This reply is late... but I purchased a hand tool for £40 & did the bushes laid on the driveway with some rear brake bits disconnected.. the garage was going to charge a fortune. It was a little awkward. Just take your time ..Mark things up for orientation . The tool is bloody well built too. Shame I couldn't of rented it. It's here in Poole Dorset if I can help anyone. Love my ford focus. Although they are bastads for rusty bolts.
@@miclem07 hi you could buy it off me if u fancy. Try Dorset auto spares .. as I bought thru eBay but they are an actual trade shop you can go into. If you buy the bushes from them ask if you can BORROW the tool. I found out afterwards that they do lend the tool to garages for them to fit the bushes . 07557259024 is my number..I doubt I will need the tool again but well you never know.
@@doncodman913 was it a mk2 focus? mine will need done soon, theres not much i cannot do so am confident in doing them so with the tool the trailing arm stays on the car? just loostened and pulled down for access?
Feck that,if you have one of those special tools im sure you can just unbolt the bush end, pull the arm down and replace it in situ or just unbolt the actual arm,not the whole axle, flaming galah
I was going to get an ST-2 tomorrow that had "nearside front trailing arm rubber bush deteriorated". I think i'll pass as this doesn't look like a job I could ever do myself. Looks expensive for a mechanic too.
My sister brought her Focus into a mechanic to get the subframe replaced but he never replaced the bush. Can I replace the bush without removing the subframe again and without a press?
@@Chrisallengallery She bought it already and it's metal. Damn, it's going to be a prick of a job then, might be too awkward for me so I might get her to leave it in to a mechanic with a lift and a press as I'm only your average d.i.y kinda guy. I replaced the front left ball joint yesterday and the three rivets holding it in were a job to remove but thankfully the new ball joint came with three bolts. Thanks for your reply 👍🏻
The shetiest engineering design ever for a part fitment. I hope the new models are not installed the same way. If they are, means engineers are really dmb, man!
What way did you do it? I tried it today by unbolting the bushing bolts and jacking the suspension in the hopes of pivoting the arm down but it only pivoted about an inch! I figure I'd have to unbolt three of the other bushing arms for it to be able to tilt.
@@hurleytom that what i did unbolted the the 3 suspension arms only on swing arm side and break caliper and the 2 swing arm bolts at drop whole swing arm. Vice grip the suspension arm bushes before u try undoing bolts if there stuck impact run the bolts if u got one cause the bolts swel up in the bushes and get stuck.
thats a long way round this job pal the bushes can be replaced without dropping entire subframe
The press on its side is epic!

@@sparky1543 . Hi Ian. Mine is a Mk1 focus. If you ask about I'm sure you will find out if this tool is use-able on the mk2. 07557259024.
Hi Don, what is the tool called and is there a link to it anywhere? Thanks

Yep, there's a tool that removes & installs the bushing w/o much disassembly but it costs at least a couple hundred bucks.
Shoot im going to change mine and I wanted to see how it was done I watched this and was like wtf is he doing 😂😂😂😂🤔🤔🤔🤔
How come the bushes don’t go in all the way to the flange?

You can so it yourself but you need the correct press tool, and without having to take taking the sub-frame off.

@@SM_zzz Unfortunately, the frame will have to be removed again in some way. If you replace the bushings with polybushes, you won't need a press.
