*-Dorman 523-067 Rear Lower Forward Suspension Trailing Arm Bushing* : amzn.to/3cxivLD *-The secondary reason I made this video....* ruclips.net/video/fGm1asWuqqU/видео.html
Hi Eric - Have you had any luck with Dorman lower control arm bushings for Toyota Camry? I need to replace the bushings and the dealer parts dept wants $150 per control arm. Also, I saw some kind of investment spam in the comments so I reported it to RUclips.
And for the "Shade Tree" types that don't have a press or that nifty cutting tool ... take a hack saw blade off, insert thru the bushing metal retainer, reinstall blade and cut a notch in the bushing housing and, after removal of the hack saw, hammer and chisel on the edge of the cut and she'll pop open. As for the Press, toss the new bushings into the house Freezer for a few hours and it will contract enough to slide in by hand; may have to warm up the mating surface on the metal trailing arm orifice to gain a few thousands more but it will go in by hand.
Eric, I know how hard some of these jobs are as I've had to do them myself, but you always seem to make these repairs look A LOT easier than they can be. Thanks brother for another great job and 🍻🍻 to a lot more great videos.
i usually mark the arm with crayon where the old bushing was installed before I take it out....that way, the new bushing is in the same plane as the old one...good job
Had my ford dealer quote me over 1300 to replace my rear trailing arms as they said they were bad and would not pass inspection. Had my local garage perform the inspection and quote me on the cost. One they could not find why the dealer said they were bad. Two they said it would cost less than a quarter of the cost they quoted me at if they needed done. Glad to support my local shop!!!
My lady has a 2019 ford escape that had this problem with the trailing arm bushings. I took this information that this site gave me & it worked perfectly. The part number he gives you is correct for a 2019 ford escape . Saved my lady hundreds of dollars
"Classic shop adapters" very creative terminology! Thanks for the videos, very helpful in diagnostics and principles on other stuff. I am 71, still wrenching and trying to keep up. It just ain't 7000 ohms per foot on plugwires any more!
I went to go grab my air hammer with a regular chisel attachment to remove the sleeve. Turns out I had the same attachment as this video. Brand new, never used. Took the sleeves out like butter. Thanks for showing me a tool I didn’t know I had!
Oh no! another thing to check on my wife's 13 escape :) Just had the transmission rebuilt at 79k and hoping the engine doesn't decide to do the "coolant intrusion" between cylinders! The "Sell car now" light came on (check engine) yesterday so will have to see how that goes! Yeh! Thanks for all of your videos, I do love the diagnostics a lot!
I used the Dorman bushing and it worked great. It was a pain in the butt getting apart without a lift getting enough leverage to brake the bolts loose. It went back together better then I thought it would. Thanks for the video, saved my daughter a bunch of money
When we swap these out at the Volvo dealership (Fords and Volvos from this era use the same platform in some cars), we actually do them in the car, just take off the shock absorber bolt, and loosen the short arms that connect to the hub assembly, then after getting the bolts out of the bushing use a large pry bar to wedge the bushing down enough so you can air hammer it and push in a new one.
I just take 2 or 3 bolts out and just loosen the last one. Take the two bolts out of the frame and it will come down enough to get the air hammer in. At least with the Fords. I don't work on Volvos.
I've been pretty lucky with my ball joint press kit - haven't found much it can't do, and I didn't lose any floor space for a press. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one, room permitting.
From the UK and I have a 2011 ford Mondeo, same type of bush. Terrible design but I bit the bullet and fitted polyurethane bushes. Bit more expensive for sure but ride quality is still great and I'll never have to change em again. If you start getting wear on inside edge of the rear tyres, defo suspect the trailing arm bushes
Trailing arm on my 2007 Focus was cracked and flexing enough to touch a brake line. I was replacing the shock and couldn't believe such a suspension failure.
Sweet nice video thank you a buddy of mine has one of these I don't know if his bushings are bad but I guess it'd be something worth checking at least if they are I know how to fix it now thank you
Thanks, I can do that job, Diy'er style, thanks to you're precise teaching, Thank you. ( I'm a subscriber to your channel a long time now, great channel.
Use the moog if available. I did these this afternoon with the dorman part . PIA . Even with the new bushing in the freezer for days and heating up the arm with a torch , still bashed the hell out of it . Ended up taking away metal where the bushing resides , little by little until the bushing fit tight . Popped the bushing back out , coated it with green loctite sleeve retainer , drove it back in , bolted it back together and let it sit . Strange the passenger side was completely shot , but the drivers side was still in great shape .
I did the same with the moog part and it was also hard to get in. Only my passenger side was bad as well. The bushing slowly separated and became offset in the sleeve even though the rubber was still pretty good. I believe it is due to my trailing arm wanting to sit closer to the middle of the car (I had to pry it outwards to line the two bolts next to the bushing up). So this one will likely do the same with time as the are has inward pressure so there is constant sideways force on the bushing. As the sleeve corroded the rubber will slowly separate as well. I think I'd have to get an adjustable toe link to fix this. The passenger side does look to have a bit more toe in than the driver side on my car.
Great video. Again. BTW sound is better then ever. Less background noise and echo. I have some tinnitus, so I struggle sometimes to hear YT-videos well, but you have a good strong voice, great dialect, and now less noise. Like I needed another reason to follow your channel 🙄😂
I don’t miss the rust belt that’s what I feel every time I see vehicles on the channel. I remember working as a technician back in the 70s everything was rusted hell the rust was rusted 😄
Doorman has gotten a bad rap over the years, a lot of it earned. I’m not sure I trust their electronics but a lot their basic parts seem to be reliable and they fit. I replaced an intake manifold on a Ford 4.6 with a Doorman. That was 140,000 miles ago. The coolant runner on the OEM had an O ring failure and it was the upgrade from when Ford discovered the the issue on the plastic ones. This one leaked into the spark plug holes on 5&6 causing misfires. The Doorman fit and was a third of the price of the OEM. I made the decision to use the Doorman since the replacement OEM was the same design as the failed one.
And just remember folks, I want you to to go into that comment section, you thoughts, concerns, opinions. The facebook, the insty. And just remember folks: If I can do it, you can do it. Thanks for watching. Just thought I would throw that in there Eric. Its not a SMAC video without that closing :)
Do NOT forget to check the rear suspension - forward lower arms (dogbone style) on these escapes.I have done a plethora of them in the past few years as a Ford tech, because the bushings delaminate on the inner and outer portion of the arm and cause the entire knuckle to shift rearward, causing tire wear and usually a clunk or grinding noise over bumps. Can also be replaced without dropping the subframe.😉Great video Eric.
I just had to do those same bushing on a 2014 Focus SE. I just ordered the complete dog bone from Rock Auto for both sides and replaced them. Less than $40 for both arms.
Salt potatoes, yes I'm a born/raised New Yorker but been in Florida for last 35 years and you can't but salt potatoes in bag with salt like up north because of the heat done here, So you have to buy small potatoes and add your own salt. But they say too much in this heat is bad for you.
Dorman parts : ) I used to drove a 1994 Dodge... now I drive a 1994 Dorman... pretty sure most parts I've used were Dorman anyway, seems they are the only ones that make every part ever.

I am "lucky" to have a bad example to remind me to wear eye protection any time I am working with power tools. In the 1970's, my father was doing a quick sharpening operation on a mower blade and a piece of metal went through his eye. He was pretty much blind in that eye for over 30 years until they developed a procedure to fix it. Even today he still has problems with it. WEAR EYE PROTECTION! PLEASE!
Hey Eric, how many miles on that Escape? Thanks for the video. I didn't know that Dorman parts were good I've always had mostly bad luck with their steering and suspension parts. I'm surprised you stated they work OK on those trailing arms. We all know how bad Dorman can be with automotive parts they're more of a miss than a hit. In my books Dorman only gets used when there is nothing else available in the market it's my last resort case scenario. The audio quality is superb with your new camera 👍 Thanks.

So the rear trailing arm is trailing behind trying to escape.

Just weld up an arbor and use a bottle jack... or Harble Frought is cheap now too.
