- Viale dei Romani is the only restaurant in LA to serve this pricey five-year-aged Iberico ham. One small leg can cost upwards of $1,000. We went to the restaurant to see how it’s served, find out what makes it so expensive, and learn why nobody else is serving it.

How The Most Expensive Ham In LA Tastes
Buys crazy expensive ham, never learns how to slice it...
that guy is wasting it... by not knowing how to slice it.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who watched a video of how to slice it some time ago LOL
X2
Man's treating it like trash , even us commoners have an idea of how to slice a jamon. Classic example of superficial idiots from LA buying the most expensive products possible and mistreating them.
No wonder they charge double the price anywhere else does, he's wasting a good percentage. Seriously, iberico black label is at most $20 in Toronto, usually 60gram packs are $24, but a little more if it's cut fresh.
That cutter has no idea what he’s doing...
@@oliviao2238His slices were really thick and so uneven. But that's just my observation, maybe they do it differently in the US.
R Gurung LA is in the USA
LA, you think that's a region expert in ham?
@@colmercer3315 I think it's a region expert in money enough as to be able to hire a dude who knows what tf is doing...
Those are some ugly cuts. I’m not surprised it’s LA everyone is faking it over there. Even the hosts are faking it. You’ll get some proper cuts in NYC.
he is ruining that ham cutting it thick and gross.

@@jensenraylight8011 Haha look at you, trying to be edgy by saying random shit. Wow! You sure are a big boy :D
God those women are unbearable
Ya. A little bit lol
Ah shit, here we go again. LA importing already known foods from foreign countries (this time spain) to sell at a 3000% LA mark-up price.
Exactly. Excellent point
STUPIDITY KEEPS DA ECONOMY AFLOAT
And dumb ass liberals like these 2 will eat it up lmao
shittyG1 Why do people like you bring politics into everything?
jzizzles Don’t fall into politics. Also GMO isn’t bad.
That ham leg is not even close to 17 kilos. Probably not even 7... It does't have a black hoof either (so it's not the best quality). That ham they are selling at a really high price would be average/low in Spain. If they are trying to inform people about something they should inform themselves first.
What do you expect from a channel who employs people to professionally eat and critique food yet know literally nothing about it. They want naive people to help create a phony perception for other rich naive people to waste money on. The girl in this vid didnt even know what cured ham was.
Well considering its an American based 'channel' ..... WTF do you expect. It would be like expecting someone from Switzerland to understand and explain something from Mexico, Japan or North Korea at that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦♀️🤦♀️
No one knows or understands a culture like its people.
@@gingerbreadman1245 beautifully said. I wonder where food insider finds these uneducated Guinea pigs. The viewers like you and me actually learn nothing about the subject except "OH MY GOD IT'S SOOOOO GOOD"
Quique was talking about numbers...no traditions or culture. Someone needs a math teacher...Jesús!!!
This is a scam
I love this channel... But this particular video seems just a paid promotional video. No proper insights on the topic...just some random chit chat. It'd have been better if content was properly curated.
It seems like they liked the lasagna better than the Ham.
which is even more ironic considering that 100-layer Instagram flop ain't no real proper tasting full of ingredients lasagna... instead it looks like an average pasta dish done wrong
Was about to say that...
Because they know lasagna and their tastes are used to it.
They really went ham on the price.
Those chefs suck at cutting the ham lmao
Wow, I’d rather pay to go to Spain and eat the ham there instead of being scammed into paying for this overpriced Iberico ham
30 bucks an ounce, and 16 ounces in a pound.
So 480 bucks a pound, and (assuming they're excluding the bone) at 37 pounds that's about...
$17760 in profit from a 37 pound leg of ham purchased at $800 to $1000
Eeesh...
Yes but that "profit" gets divided amongst everyones salaries working in the restaurant. Its not as if one person is profiting that much and you do not necessarily sell that leg very quickly.
Electricity, rent, taxes, staff... etc etc etc
Profit margin is closer to 20-30% if you’re lucky
Zio Oren especially the way he’s cutting it which is terrible. Italian restaurant on top of it, why serve Spanish ham with so many less expensive as good Italian options.
The funniest part its they are being ripping off. Im spaniard i can tell you 100% that its not an iberico ham. And its extremelly easy to know why. No black hoof, no iberico race. That is a common jamon serrano of duroc race, from 100 to 300€ at must becouse 5J its a good brand.
The pigs are killed at 15min the old so the leg aka ham portion of the pig isn’t 37lbs…it’s only the ham that’s exceptionally priced the rest of the pig is more affordable.

He buys the whole leg for around $1000 but sells it for around $17k+. WOW. NOW THATS TOO MUCH OF A MARK-UP!
He is one of only three companies in the u.s that's allowed to import, and sell it. Still expensive but it's $30 for the experience to taste it.
4.000 euro you have a whole leg of the best jamon breed almost free alongside with fighting bulls .... i mean if he sells 1000 usd for 17k... that would be 68.000 usd?? XDDD you can buy 5j in spain for 500 euro
It is not pata negra, to be pata negra has to have a black paw and that jamón doesn't has it. Also expensive Spanish ham from the ibérico pork normally weights around 6 to 9 kg, because ibérico pork is a lot smaller
comes with a hefty price tag, i brought home 2kg from a trip to spain, 200 USD. but well worth it, the one bought was not 100 % Iberico pig, but a mix of Iberico and Duroc, still a good ham, but in the future i will only get the 100 % Iberico, the taste is much richer than the mix, although it was also fed with Acorn, like the pata negra.
Most expensive Jamón Bellota I ate was in Barcelona called Joselito Vintage which was cured for 60mths.... Joselito is the best & 5J second imo
If that is a Jamón iberico... Im japanese (Im born in Spain). Whoever can understand something about spanish food can tell by the colour and the fat vets is jamón serrano.(mid-low price you can buy by 70-150€ whole piece)
You can buy pata negra from 5 JotAs (not jotEs) at Costco. It's so fatty, it coats your mouth in lard. Probably why they drink so much wine in Spain. It's amazing.
You guys should go to Heidelberg Germany they haven't a wonderful burger place and it's wallet friendly it called Mahlzeit Burger
Most unconvincing presentation ever :)
Iberico ham highlighted with pizza, lasagna and arrivederci as an outro. Who's going to tell them? 😄
I cut plenty of Iberian ham pata negra and I know for a fact that there is at least 1/3 of waste on the ham from all the trimmings that need to be done. If you a super expert you might be a able to make it less but it’s not usually the case. I do think he not cutting the ham properly and should watch some video on how to cut it properly to make the most out of it.
J5’s is a really amazing ham and prociutto is not comparable to this product. We’re talking about completely different flavors and curing processes.
I get a leg each year, it costs alot but it's worth it.
“I’m expecting it to taste better than my store bought ham.”
*No SHIT*
Hamming and glamming!
They mangled that poor pata Negra 😭😭😭😭
They are over charging it and huge profit, they bought 37 pounds for 1000usd , which is $27 /lb, but they are selling it for 480/lb(30usd/oz). I guess it is limited in supply and marketing
I'm a minute into this video and I can't watch anymore. 2 things:
1). Blonde girl. Expensive ham?! Like, as if...
2). Audio is horrible. I'm guessing these two are running the tech side as well.
Food Insider, your mediocre content isn't going to improve until you start hiring people who know things.
Agreed but the white girl is the producer
Sydney, what kind of lipstick are you wearing?!? I can’t believe it stayed on so well!
Thought the title said most expensive human and I was so confused
I know none of the insider ppl are experts or whatever but the blonde girl doesn't seem to know what like, food is
Also the guy said Cinco jotes??? No me jodas tío 😂🤣
I've also been described as "fatty and nutty". Now I can take it as a compliment.
Sigmund Freud to Sydney: “Zo… for how long has your fantasy of ze perfect Sunday afternoon include your own death?”
You make a fortune of of these!
when she said 17 kilos instead of another system...
Bro Casey Lane sus 1:18 SUSpicions confirmed!
So they buy it for roughly $27 a pound then sell it for $480 a pound? Ha....Im gonna pass!
More than 2/3 of the leg gets thrown away as bone, skin and excess fat.
@@jorgemendoza3972 That makes it even worse. If this is the case; one can conclude that roughly 25 pounds of the leg is thrown away. Meaning about 12 pounds is saleable meat. Thus bringing thier cost to $83 dollars per pound. That is a 478% increase!

I never wanted to punch someone that bad.... que vergas!! Desde cuando el Jamón cuesta tanto dinero???? Y ufff la forma q lo cortaba... habia más fat q jamón. susjwjwjwjw shsjssjsnysmss mis ojos.
Its called Pursuito
If you think that's expensive you're aren't looking hard enough.
These scumbags are making 18,000 dollars in profit just to slice a ham.
*nutty*
I like tattoos looking like Ed Hardy shirts already. At least those got thrown away.
That’s an every day ham in Spain. Just go to court englese supermarket lol
Prime example of LA California
What’s the cutter doing? If they want to try good jamón ibérico come to Spain.
1(Black), 2 Red, 3 Green, 4 White label. Most Expensive is the black label which runs about $1700, And the slices are meant to be really thin
Prosciutto from krogers is enough 4 me.
Ah yes
An old skinner family recipe
It tastes like ham
5j ham its expensive in LA and in spain too
But isn't the best spanish ham
Broo let me get ya
a ham leg = 800$ - 1000$ which is 17 kilo's
1 ounce = 30$
17 kilos to ounces is 600 ounces or (599.657ounces)
600 × 30 = 1800$
Bro its a serious business
I mean they're practically selling that ham for more than a dollar a gram? Seriously?
to cut it right, the fat has to look like a stained glass window
Interesting here, the ham looks real big wow.....when I come to LA I should try it for sure. 😃👍
Or when you go to Spain...
They be making close to 17,000$$$$$ on one ham
Whats with this channel always uploading at the same time as gordon ramsay
youre right m8 wonder why
they post every week and so does this channel
Paler then sour cream
Come and eat the prosciutto in italiaaa
Why there is a SPANISH ham in an allegedly italian restaurant? That lasagna it's way far from what it should look like, and spanish ham usually is like taking a good italian ham and mixing it with shit, that's the actual taste of spanish ham, I'm not joking.
Wow awesome delicious ham
Buys most expensive ham, to taste acorns.
michael jackson is alive hehehe
I thought the thumbnail was skinning a human leg
It's cheaper in europe :D
If it makes me fly I’ll buy it
look so delicious
Was that an unforgettable luncheon?
I tried that shit once after it taste like shit
Y'all just wasting money
You are not kidding
So a ham on average is $1000 dollars on the steep end for the restaurant to buy, And they sell it at $30 and ounce. So it’s (16oz) x (37lbs) for the price of that that ham at 2:43 . That means the restaurant makes a minimum of $17,000 per ham. What a scam.
Love Caroline, may be without reason
that cut is destroying the ham
Early retirement plan.
Scam Ham.
Wtf was that cut? A ham steak?
That´s not even pata negra ffs
Making 12-15k off that damn leg! Wtf
That’s expensive af
Ni siquiera es un pata negra
*_Marry Ham_*
You should’ve gone to Spain.
this is Murcia 😂
they're still cutting them way too thick
If anyone’s interested.
37 pounds = 592 oz
592 oz divided by $30/1oz (which the owner said they sold it for) means that the restaurant would get a profit of almost $17,000. That’s insane!
That is mediocre ham at a ridiculous price and it tastes way bad than expected based on their expressions...not to mention it's of poor quality than hyped as well😒
Why are they in an Italian restaurant eating Spanish ham?
so expensived ham...and ur try it..wasted
Oh my god how can you be serving this and not learn how to properly cut it!
They cut it soooooo wrong..🤧
The title says ham yet the hosts are unbearable and are more hyped about *lasagna*
Those pieces are cut like shit, that can't be good
I knew it was the ham from worth it
It must be good
Come to Spain and you will really know what "eating" means.
Jamon... dddddeeelicious!
I think it tastes like expensive ham
at a rough estimate from information given during video.... a 15-16k profit for the restaurant...
