Yeah, our Founding Fathers didn't intend for us to have political parties who acted for the sake of their party over their country (even forcing their country into crises over their partisan loyalties), including blocking the previous president from fairly appointing judges to federal courts, they didn't intend for the electoral college to allow a demagogue, charlatan, and foreign agent to become president (in fact it SPECIFICALLY says that's the job of the electoral college, to prevent that from happening), or for a president to be immune to censure, criticism, or criminal punishment if necessary. They also intended for people to have freedom of religion, a "wall of separation between church and state" (in the words of the guy who WROTE IT), the right to protest the government, the right of people to be free from unreasonable search & seizure, or cruel & unusual punishment, the right to a speedy trial AND legal representation, you know, all the things Republicans are AGAINST.
If I was a "Founding Father" I'd be like "Keep my name outcha mouth!"

Look, it isn't so much about the incident itself anymore. However serious the allegations could have been, the simple, easy way to regain favor in that Senate hearing would have been to acknowledge the charge, publicly apologize to the victim, and demonstrate how he would rule on further cases like this as a defense of women's bodily autonomy. But to deny, and lie about it ever happening is not something you want to hear and hear from a court judge with the power to rule over women's health and bodily freedoms. We demand transparency of our officials, to know that the person passing legislation or judgement is doing so from a place outside of personal interest and self preservation. To lie and deceive while being examined for a position on the highest bench in the land is not a comforting sight.
Also, for Republicans to whine about the undermining of Constitutional norms is exhausting and infuriating at the same time. They have been undermining the very core of democracy by removing equal voting rights for years, they've gerrymandered and suppressed voter turnout to exclusively gain control over the country despite holding a minority of the popular vote, and they have been stacking courts with favorable judges and conservative prosecutors to further secure their unfair advantage even in times when they aren't the executive party in power. A Democratic governor was stripped of his legal powers by the state's Republican controlled House, preventing him from having any veto power while in office. Worst of all was actively blocking the sitting president's nominee for the Supreme Court for 9 months, knowing it was fully within his duty as president to produce one for the hearings. They don't care about fair democracy, they care about consolidating power, and regardless of political affiliation, that should concern you.
Oh it does. The Dems need to nut up and curb this advantage that the GOP always ends up with. It's a play we see over and over and the Dems just cower. Disgusting. Obama had like 8 months left, the GOP say "No Pick For You!" Dems: yeah you're right I guess, shucks.

The average time it takes for a young sexual assault victim to confront or report on her more socially powerful abuser is currently 25 to 30 years. Thirty, forty, fifty years ago, girls didn't come forward at all. The high school principals, pastors, bus drivers, football stars, creep uncles, stepfathers, coaches, bosses, managers and other pillars of the community got away with it.
With luck, we'll see the time it takes for women to speak up grow shorter and shorter. But it's not going to happen soon if you guys keep making excuses for Kavanaugh, Trump and all the rest.

Two thirds of sexual assaults are never reported because women are afraid they won't be believed, that they'll be blamed, that their reputations will be permanently damaged. And they're right to be afraid, aren't they? That's why women making false charges is rare, a very small ratio compared to the men who actually do assault women.
Police, however, have charged many innocent men, usually with rape AND murder because cops don't hunt down rapists until they escalate to killing. And then they hurriedly nail some poor schlub to quell the panic while the real culprit skips over to another town and carries on.
Its still astonishing that people watch fox news and take it seriously.
