I went to a festival in Norway in ‘11. That’s when I first heard of Gibbs. After his set I told him I ain’t never heard of you but your music is feeling a void that’s missing. I was impressed. Later that night he was doing a set at the after party where it was about 1k people and he hollered my name and said where you at? I got some weed for us. We reconnected in the bay a few times and it’s nice to see his career blossom.
Whoa, yeah you saw him a year after he started to pop more. Although he had been around years prior. Still though, it's wild to see how he's just now hitting his stride career-wise.

Freddie Gibbs signing to Young Jeezy record label is similar to
Stalley signing to Rick Ross record label.
Guys like Freddie and Stalley aren't meant for huge mainstream success. This is not a diss, because I think both artist are amazing but there music isn't really able to be pushed to a mass audience.
Guys like Freddie are better off being independent or being underground, that way he keeps a loyal fanbase and he probably make more money than he ever would making music on a mainstream level. Just my take.

I couldn't agree more. It's like I do want them to thrive and everything, but appealing to a mainstream audience would require them to change their entire style more or less, and that wouldn't even be right. We've seen rappers in the past dumb themselves down to a commercial level, but others are just too real for that.
I feel like if Gibbs actually put in the work and stayed true to CTE he could've been a big mainstream artist without having to switch up, but he let his pride get to him.
I been bumpin gibbs but i wouldn't have known him without Curren$y or Jeezy so 🤷.

Facts yo always stay Indie as no one can take your work and say its theirs and treat you as an employee from your own craft. Its definitely the harder more grinding route but if you believe in yourself and skills youll eventually blossom.

Gibbs is proving that he IS built for mainstream success. Making it to the mainstream after underground success doesn't mean you have to sell out to the radio or whatever the wave is. Gibbs is of the same mold as Curren$y, Styles P, and Nipsey.

Shlizzeretty Jones I’ve been listening to Gibbs since piñata. Fetti was cool but like I said his best work to me are those listed above. There’s a few songs that were cool on Freddie . I wouldn’t know Freddie back then but because I’ve been a madlib fan since the 90s . Also the collab w el michels affair is better than all his older stuff. Same the the alchemist. Been a fan of his since I was a kid.

I can definitely see that as well. Looking at how it all went down, Gibbs did seem like he wanted to just do more of what he was already accustomed. There's definitely a different path you need to go through if you're expected to blow up on a mainstream level.

Great video..... Gibbs didn't like the Eminem song cause they had issues when he was signed to Interscope on top of it being a ok song. He didn't go into it in the Ebro interview. Think he's blackballed from Shade 45.
Gibbs won imo. He's on top and has dropped some classic music. Jeezy can't get any love. And YG is the only artist under CTE and I would argue Freddie is more successful than YG.

Most of these situations are two people that are similar. Jeezy wanted him to be a certain artist/ didn’t foresee Gibbs way working out the way it did. It’s understandable for Gibbs to have his point of view when someone get on publication trying to little boy you.
