Is it bad that *this* is what got me to pay attention to the song lyrics after almost 10 years? I legit didn't know this was a song about gaslighting until now.
This song in itself is already absolutely incredible, and I'm sure you already know why. But something I'd also like to mention is how incredible this clip is and how perfectly this fits the song. We spend the first half with Morshu's verse setting up his side of the story, as a picture of his life is painted with him integrated into it. Then it cuts to Link's part, we find out someone else is in the painting, but then he slowly moves, and begins revealing his side of the story, breaking the illusion the painting had set up both figuratively and literally. Then my favorite part. The chorus kicks in and he yells passionately, and as he does you can see Morshu's face turn into one of frustration, furrowing his brows. The sequence then becomes Morshu singing the chorus as Link continues to yell at him, and at times softens his voice, almost like he softens emotionally for a moment, before his anger comes back and he starts yelling again. The thing I found amazing is that he's staring straight at him, but he doesn't look at him back as he sings the chorus, a literal representation that he isn't listening to him. He doesn't want to hear his side of the story, because he wants to keep believing he's in the right, and his singing almost seems like him trying to sing over Link, drown him out, to convince himself what he's saying is true, while he tries to argue with him. Once the chorus is over, he gives up, realizes he's not worth fighting with, and finally walks off. The moment he does, Morshu finally looks at him. The moment he's gone. As if in the very last second he had a change of mind, regretting his behavior, and wanted to see him one more time, but now it's too late for that. He calls out for Link, singing, and he stares at the wall, his paint slowly coming off of him, representing him, in the literal sense, getting out of the picture. He's out of his life now. He keeps looking at him as the paint is coming off, and he looks back at the last second, in the form of a final goodbye.
