I recently took an Uber with a gay friend of mine who, for whatever reason, misread his gaydar and made a pass at the driver. I was mortified but the driver took it in stride and politely indicated that he was a happily married father of three. For my money, that was the straightest most forgiving driver that I have encountered.
At $699 CDN, it better make me hit EVERY fairway and also somehow let the beer cart girl know I need another round. I just can't believe how ridiculous prices have gotten for just 1 out of 14 clubs in the bag.
I've played about 15 rounds with my G425Max, For me it instills confidence that translates into allowing me to swing harder, while making solid contact. I'm starting to play ProV1's again now that I can consistently get off the Tee and find fairways
I have to say, I don’t buy drivers each year, I usually wait about five years but after your review I had to try the G425 Max and I have to say you are correct, this is the straightest driver I have ever hit, in over six rounds of golf I have missed only six fairways with it. This is good and bad, a miss hit you won’t recognize easily. I really enjoyed my Cobra Speedzone driver but I have completely moved to the G425. I would of never tried it if I had not watched your review! Ping might owe you a commission from my purchase!
Might be your best club review ever, really enjoyed the format of this one! I’ve been very interested in Ping Drivers the last few years and this only peaks that for me! Can’t wait to see the other brands reviewed.
I just bought one of these, I average around 220 and on my first time round the course with this today I smashed it and hit a couple of 280's which I have never done before and one of those were dead straight which is another first for me, love it! I never thought I would ever buy a ping but I'm glad I saw your review thanks Rick
Rick after watching you test the Ping drivers I was SOLD. I went and hit the 425MAX and then ordered it with the Rogue X-flex shaft. This was back in February, after finally getting it and getting a chance to really play with it I have to agree. LOVE IT!! My Buddies and I have an early spring golf trip and the course we play has multiple challenging driving holes, challenging for me anyway. One par 5 has about 280 to carry the stream, carried it 3 days, another par 5 with trees on the left, road on the right with a creek that runs diagonally across the hole. Again about 280 to cover the creak and I absolutely stripped it 4 days in a row and was putting for eagle 2 of those days. Thanks for the outstanding reviews and non-bias opinion.
I bought a used Ping G driver and it changed my game. I literally went from slicing the ball over 50% of the time down to about 20% doing nothing more than changing my driver. Amazing drivers.
Rick I love watching your videos and your reviews on clubs. You are probably the one guy I trust the most with a honest review before I purchase a club. Keep up the good work and have a great year.
I finally bought one of these Driver’s and it is amazing. I’ve had the epic flash, cobra f9, Mavrik, and epic speed in the last few years and I was not getting great results. I thought what could I lose and bought the g425. I only missed 2 fairways today with the g425. It’s been a long time since I had a club make that big of a difference. I had almost gave up on hitting driver and stick with my 3 wood. Thanks Rick for the great reviews that you do. The video with the g425 and stealth was what made me go for it. If you are about to give up on your driver, try this one it’s amazing
I just got a G425, first club I’ve bought outside my box clubs. It is AMAZING, my drives got noticeably better and straighter. I SUCK at driving, never turn the club face enough. It made my slices go from “is that going to hit a car in the parking lot next to us” to “that’s going to be a bad lie.”
After watching your vids, I just spent 3hrs of research online and decided to walk to the course 2 mins from my front door. The only driver they had left was the SFT (which is perfect for me) Took her to the range and it maybe 20 balls. After years of slicing further than the ball travels forward...my slice is gone!!!! So they're bringing in the stiff shaft for me and I should have it within the week. Can't wait!! Was clearing 290-310 for the first time ever. Thanks so much for all the vids , keep em' comin'!!!!
Bought the Max a couple weeks ago. Best driver I ever had. Very Draw bias. Have it on Fade and it usually goes straight or slight draw. I can't get this thing to fade or slice. Best money ever spent
It's a weird anomaly. In Europe, VW is considered reliable. In the America's, VW is considered unreliable. Makes you wonder just how terrible the other European cars are...
I brought the ping g425 last week and can also say I hit with a slice since buying the new ping driver I can hit the ball with everything I have now without worrying about landing on a different fairway! PING YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY KILLED THE LINE UP THIS YEAR! 👌🔥🔥🔥
I started playing last summer, and only played a few months. I’m now in the market for a new driver, and even with all the big releases this year - the G425 Max is currently working the best for me. 10.5°, regular shaft, neutral settings have me hitting a nice draw about 235 carry.
Tried out the G425 max and it added 50 yards to my drives, (compared to my old cobra on Trackman) - and straight !! Now all I have to do is save up and buy it. Thanks for the review.
The Ping Max’s are incredible. I demoed one last year and felt like I was hitting my putter it was going so straight, and with good distance, flight, spin etc.
I got those Kirkland wedges for Christmas and I absolutely love them. If I had not seen your review of them, I’d still be playing the horrible wedges I had in my bag. Thanks Rick.
Got a chance to try this driver at a range the other day. Absolutely loved it. Would have bought it on the spot if finances were co-operating. I usually play a shorter driver to help me be a bit more consistent, but this is one of those clubs where you wouldn't want to mess with anything because it's so good.
Bought my G425 this week and played today. WOW! Just realised I had only watched half of this video too 🤣 Great feedback and agree with everything said here. +1 today in horrible wet, windy and cold conditions from a 10 hcp. Not too shabby but the ping definitely helped out! Thanks Rick
Started on a full bag fitting today, I had a bad slice issue, granted I needed to tweak my swing but after all the drivers I ended up doing the best with this one. The straight tech series. I went from my old driver carrying 190 and rarely hitting it straight to hitting 80 percent of fairways and carrying 245 max 265. Even got a 280 in there once. Highly recommended!
Rick your a legend started playing golf again after 20 of years back issues. I have a g30 son has g400 max great clubs , can’t believe the tips I’ve got from you,,, thanks from down Under mate.. Go MAN U
Finally played 18 holes with my G425max today. Found the fairway 100% today at every long par4 and par5. Super happy with it. Forgiveness was unimaginably good. I could feel a bad shot right at the impact and still see my ball ended up on the fairway. Btw, I switched from a callaway epic flash sub zero which I also loved very much but I just needed a little more forgiveness.
I bought this today after a lot of research on RUclips, and I always check with Ricks reviews before I buy anything. The price on this driver is $299, and let me tell you, this driver is AWESOME!! The sound wasn't an issue as some reviews have said, and this driver is REALLY forgiving, and I set the back weight on the draw bias and it really helped. I would HIGHLY recommend this driver to anyone!!
I doubt Rick will put the Ping in the bag. His numbers are just as good with the F9 and he doesn't need a ton of forgiveness on a driver. He said a few times last year that he wasn't going to change anything in his bag just to change. If there isn't a noticeable difference in his driver performance, he'll keep the F9 in the bag.
@@paulk3198 That's strange because he said last year that he wouldn't change anything unless there was a noticeable difference. And no review that I saw indicated any perceivable difference between them. Either way - it doesn't seem likely that he'll move off of the Cobra driver for the Ping.
@@chrisgilligan4968 yeah that's right but he ended up changing to the xtreme because it was more forgiving than the f9 he had, it was quite a while after the speedzone release

Wow, I have the G LST which I love, an extra 3 yards wouldn’t make me swap, but the Max straightness might, as I play round a tight course. Great video
Got fitted for the G425 Driver / 5 wood / 7 wood / 26 degree and 34 degree hybrids....can't wait to get them...driving ranges are open now....and courses hopefully very soon...great review by the way Rick....cheers from Canada
Ordered mine yesterday. I said to the staff member, “in all my life I’ve never hit them this straight on a simulator. “ your thoughts were identical. I was actually concerned with how straight it was going and if I could still cut it. It can be done. Ordered the max 10.5 65 g Alta stiff. Even funnier the driver I have been playing with is the G series. I’ve been holding out for this one. Thank you for the content. Keep it up !
Great in-depth review Shielsie!!! Went and did a demo with this club today and it came home with me. Just in time for my week-long golf trip to Myrtle Beach in 2 weeks. Thanks again for another great vid!!
I love this channel. I just got fitted and played the Ping G425 Max driver although it was a bit expensive it was worth it. Easy to hit and very consistent and forgiving. Best driver I have ever played.
I was lucky enough to visit there facility in Arizona a few years ago. If anyone was ever lucky enough to get to see what they do and how that do it you would never play any other clubs. We were treated like royalty by genuine honest people. Awesome review as always Rick.
Rick I watched your video and then tested it in the shop and I absolutely agree. I currently play the G30 and have my order in for the new G425 based on the forgiveness factor. The G425 is not longer than my G30 but high launch is terrific and I striped every one down the middle. Can't wait to get it into my bag and win some money off of my buddies.
Got fitted for this driver and bought it. Played a round with it today for the first time. Normally I am hit and miss with my old m6 driver, but I am astounded that I didn't miss a fairway with the ping g425 max! £419 but bloody hell it gives you confidence to smash it!! Well happy
You ought to be getting paid by Ping. I dropped $500 on a new G425 Max. I have never been so excited for a new club. Also have a 5-wood coming soon as well just for the sake of testing things out. I have a Callaway FT-iZ 3-wood that I hit pretty well, so it'll be an interesting test to see if the 3-wood still has a role to play. I fully expect the 5-wood to sit right in the range of the 3-wood. I haven't played any real golf in quite a few years, but you have brought me back into the fold, Rick. Thank you for reminding me of the pleasure of golf, even if it's just at the range, for now.
The implied caveat is that you have to have a relatively decent and repeatable swing. If you don't, then no driver is going to save you except for the swingless club. The comparison against the G driver from 5 years ago tells you everything you need to know. The clubs are still hitting it about the same length as they were 5, or even 10 years ago. So if you have a decent driver, but hit it like crap - then you should spend your money on lessons instead of a new driver.
I have 2 G400 clubs (driver and 4 hybrid) and 2 G410s (5 wood and 3 hybrid) in my bag and they are awesome. I've greatly improved my game with the Ping G series.
Rick just bought the 3wood and driver in LST. Wouldn’t have considered It without your review. They really are forgiving and fun to hit! Keep up the great content!
Yes, and now that the G 430 Max is out they have dropped the price of the G 425 Max way down. So, I finally bought one. Loud sound doesn't bother me. Great deal. I love this review. Great job Rick. The straightest and most forgiving driver he has ever tested. I like those words. Forgiving all over the face. I finally bought one.
I feel your pain! I thought it was absolutely BS when Golf Channel was advertising “The New G410 Plus” on their Kapalua coverage YESTERDAY!!! YESTERDAY!! They actually said that verbatim one day before the new line came out.
Just got in my g410 plus driver last week and started thinking the same then told myself, dont fret, the difference is most likely negligible. Its the shooter not the arrow :-) i also save about $150 buying the 410 brand new lol.
Another great video Rick. I'm currently playing the Ping G30, it's what I can afford right now. I'm a bit biased because my family is from AZ, and ping is what my grandparents taught me the game with. Absolutely love the look of the new Ping G425! Here's to hoping I can get one in my bag one day! Cheers Rick. Thanks again.
"We are going to look at the new Ping drivers." I like Ping! "We are going to compare it to the Ping G." I have the Ping G! "It flies straighter." I need to hit it straighter! *$700* *Heart broken*
So the question is, is it $700 straighter than your G? (coming from someone who plays a stock G400) I feel your pain. But, if it doesn't go in Rick's bag, that will answer our question I think. The difference between all these Ping clubs are miniscule from what I can tell. Yet this new G425 Max is the straightest ever? How does it not go in the bag for Rick? Let's wait and see :)
@@timhouston1638 It likely doesn't go in Rick's bag, mostly because Rick doesn't need forgiveness. He said several times last year that he wouldn't change anything if there wasn't a noticeable difference. I don't think the G425 hits it longer than his F9 - if he thinks he'll find a couple more fairways a round I think he'd consider gaming it.
Watched a bunch of driver reviews over the last couple of days - this is the one that stuck with me cause I just walked out of a golf store a new proud owner of a Ping G425 Max. After hitting a bunch of different drivers I came to the same conclusion, even an off hit with G425 Max is pretty good.
I did the same. I tried 4 drivers (callaway ping, cobra etc) , did a 5 shot each test to find fairways, and the 435 max landed all on the fairway. Repeated the test to see if it was a fluke Again all 5 landed on the fairway. Bought it there and then.
Great review as always Rick bold statement regarding straightest driver you have ever tested. I love the comparison you did with the Ping G driver it gets you thinking 🤔
Great video, your analysis of what ever you are testing is great, very player oriented and you have a very good way of getting an unbiased perspective over. Please keep going i enjoy watching.

@@G2020- Your just mad
I was lucky enough to visit there facility in Arizona a few years ago. If anyone was ever lucky enough to get to see what they do and how that do it you would never play any other clubs. We were treated like royalty by genuine honest people. Awesome review as always Rick.
Ping is like Porsche! Incremental changes always striving for perfection.
Agree. And I’ve got both luckily.
Me, too! 987.1 and 997.1. Both in Speed Yellow.
Rick I watched your video and then tested it in the shop and I absolutely agree. I currently play the G30 and have my order in for the new G425 based on the forgiveness factor. The G425 is not longer than my G30 but high launch is terrific and I striped every one down the middle. Can't wait to get it into my bag and win some money off of my buddies.
i'm gaming the Taylormade m5 right now
I think i’m gonna buy that one
Ping g410 here,absolutely love it..
What shafts are in your drivers?
@@drewmkgoonerp7018 hazardous smoke
@@andrewjacobson7802 I'm using the tensei orange ck pro x flex..
Love that you’re including the 5yo model 👍
You should compare it to the G400 MAX. That seems a bit more of an apples to apples.
I've got one with a senior shaft and love it. It's a fairway finder and I hit it longer than ever.
I wonder if PING see this & wet themselves knowing how many more they’re going to sell 😂
Rick Shiels: Making & breaking drivers for fun 😂😎
You know PING probably gave him these clubs to review well and pay him a nice packet for doing so.
@@GamingGuides4You he says he’s independent 🤷
Got fitted for this driver and bought it. Played a round with it today for the first time. Normally I am hit and miss with my old m6 driver, but I am astounded that I didn't miss a fairway with the ping g425 max! £419 but bloody hell it gives you confidence to smash it!! Well happy
Forgiveness is what I need - too expensive though - typical for Golf
‘The straightest driver I’ve tested’ - I love how rick is assuming all of us can hit straight!😂
Until the next big manufacturer asks him to do a review.
@@sparko2012 Rick isn’t the type to hype a club because a manufacturer asked him to.
@@sparko2012 not gonna stick it in the bag just because its straighter either
@@BrandonGavin_EDC hahahha are you kidding??
I have 2 G400 clubs (driver and 4 hybrid) and 2 G410s (5 wood and 3 hybrid) in my bag and they are awesome. I've greatly improved my game with the Ping G series.
Ping: Straightest driver ever.
Me: Hold my beer.
You have the coolest job, Rick! I’ve never gamed a Ping driver but I would like to try this one out.
Is it going in the bag though? That's the big question!
Turns out it did
Rick just bought the 3wood and driver in LST. Wouldn’t have considered It without your review. They really are forgiving and fun to hit! Keep up the great content!
And just like that Ping's sales numbers go through the roof haha
Yes, and now that the G 430 Max is out they have dropped the price of the G 425 Max way down. So, I finally bought one. Loud sound doesn't bother me. Great deal. I love this review. Great job Rick. The straightest and most forgiving driver he has ever tested. I like those words. Forgiving all over the face. I finally bought one.
I feel like ping is the Logitech of golf
Lmao that is actually such a good comparison
When you just ordered a G410 3 wood:
(Crying Noises)
😂😂Not a huge difference in terms of performance but everyone wants the new one
I feel your pain! I thought it was absolutely BS when Golf Channel was advertising “The New G410 Plus” on their Kapalua coverage YESTERDAY!!! YESTERDAY!! They actually said that verbatim one day before the new line came out.
Just got in my g410 plus driver last week and started thinking the same then told myself, dont fret, the difference is most likely negligible. Its the shooter not the arrow :-) i also save about $150 buying the 410 brand new lol.
@@tomcafferky8224 it’s new technology so it’s different
I bought a Ping 4 hybrid and 2nd hand 4 wood and both excellent. Much straighter than my other clubs.
Same. Best looking drive I’ve seen in a while
Love my G410, swapped from Taylormade and I’ll never go back
Great review Rick!!! G425 long, straight and forgiving!!!! Soooo need this driver!!!!
"We are going to look at the new Ping drivers."
I like Ping!
"We are going to compare it to the Ping G."
I have the Ping G!
"It flies straighter."
I need to hit it straighter!
*$700*
*Heart broken*
Great video Rick! You need to bring back the review show.👍
I agree!
The best driver you've ever hit...until next year
Best and most complete reviews ever seen. Thanks Rick.
“Straightest driver I have ever hit.” But did it sound good? Nope dealbreaker 😂
Repeated the test to see if it was a fluke
Again all 5 landed on the fairway.
Bought it there and then.
Volkswagen is a bad analogy “you know what you’re getting” ....... lies about performance and isn’t as good as it makes out! Haha
Most forgiving is a bold statement. I feel like the Cobra SZ Xtreme has insane forgiveness.
Looks awesome. Thanks for the review.
Since when has Volkswagen meant "reliable?" LOL
I thought the same thing when he said that.
As usual a great review. I like the way you gauge it against the older model at the end.
I love Ping drivers, I moved away from the g30 to the Callaway epic flash but I am sorely tempted to go back to this one.
I got the G425 Max back in October, and I love it beyond bits - I literally call it my fairway finder. Such a great club.
I could really do with this in my bag!! Happy new year Rick and keep up the brilliant videos I love them!
Hi Rick, great video as always I have in my bag G400 max and have to say my handicap went down 5 shots it's and absolute fairway finder machine.
Great review as always Rick bold statement regarding straightest driver you have ever tested. I love the comparison you did with the Ping G driver it gets you thinking 🤔
Cheers Rick. I'm in the market for a new driver so I'll be watching your reviews with interest. Keep up the good work mate.
Great video, your analysis of what ever you are testing is great, very player oriented and you have a very good way of getting an unbiased perspective over. Please keep going i enjoy watching.
