When he did his speech in the pilot episode, I was feeling what he was feeling, and then there was the last sentence of the speech “And I want to make enough money to buy a TV” I started laughing so hard😂😂
So tired to see there's still people to say this is copycat from Korean drama, well first of all: THIS IS AMERICAN REMAKE OF KOREAN GOOD DOCTOR, what does that mean? ABC BOUGHT THE RIGHTS TO RE-PRODUCE THE ORIGINAL DRAMA. "The Korean version is better than this remake," Well, at least try to watch it then judge. Do respect people who work hard to produce this drama, regardless whoever play the main character, the message of this drama is deep yet uplifting. Enjoy!
i absolutely agree. i saw the korean drama and enjoyed it. this just barely started and is very decent so far. the only gripe i had was that they didnt mention credit where it is due.
Well it is also respectful it they had mentioned and gave credit to where the origin of this show is from. A show that is going to bring him in such a spotlight and so much money for abc.
Maybe because they already PAID for the rights? Like they can use the material but give the chance to stand / promote on its own rather than carry the Korean network or the original version.
Thanking "The Good Doctor" for letting people catch a glimpse of high-functioning autistic individuals. And, yes, some of the back flashes shown are true of what happens to these individuals. I can only hope it raises even more autism awareness. There is NO CURE for it. Autism is a neurological disorder. kids and adults are so poorly misunderstood and are treated unfairly throughout their lives, because people are not educated enough about the autism spectrum. Also special ed teachers deserve praise who work with them, and the teachers need more support and resources. As do the parents. Autism spectrum individuals require a lot of care and supportive services. Contact your government officials and let them know these individuals are to no longer take a back seat. It is time to give them a brighter future. And better medical benefits. Blessings to you all
Melanie Barksdale I do too, and water on the brain and sensory defensive issues. Most of the residents at "Climping" Life-care Facility treat me badly. They nag, they preach, they scold, they "dis"... I'm not happy there but it's all I can afford (because it's HUD subsidized) I am not happy at "Climping". I like the neighborhood it's in but not the facility itself. I would like to send Freddie an email. The Good Doctor is one of my favorite programs, tied with Modern Family. What I love more than anything else: organ music, the English-style choir at my local parish in "Nowhere-near-Sheffield" where I have been a parishioner since 2014, the composer Rafe Vaughan Williams, who composed FOREST GREEN, my most favorite melody, Gothic and Tudor architecture (yes, I am an American Anglophile, ever since I heard the Forest Green melody and also Christmas carols arranged by Sir David Willcocks) and green forests. I don't like, much less love, religious fanatics. My fellow parishioners at "St. Rafe's" are very tolerant, but I live among prudes. I wish everyone understood the autism spectrum. *Names of the facility and my metro area have been changed to protect my identity*
I know, they're everywhere repeating over and over that is a rip off of the Korean drama. They made a Korean version of criminal minds, and I don't remember anyone bashing on South Korea for doing that. I love k dramas, but those fans are getting out of control. They don't even see that this show will actually benefit the k drama, and it might bring more international fanbase. I know many people have gone and seen the drama after finding out is from a k drama.
Freddie, is a phenomenal actor. His ability to cry on cue is amazing. He already got a Golden Globe nomination for his role as Dr. Shaun Murphy. I can't wait until he officially wins it!!
Please tell me I’m wrong but he’s played so weird characters and he’s played them so well and it seems that he himself is kinda in the characters even when he’s not acting...
You will notice that I did not comment on the show itself or the actors or anything else. I am only saying that the Korean was the original. When Asian shows adapt a drama, (ie: Criminal Minds, The Good Wife, Entourage) they mentioned that they paid for the rights to make the Korean adaptation and credit the creation to the series creator. Even the actors acknowledged the fact. The people on this show however have not done that. And that is the main issue for most of the Korean show fans. It's not about which is better because to be honest, I'm enjoying the American version too.
dnahubs Agreed. It's great that the US is looking to SK for inspiration - lotta great dramas that would be awesome to see adaptations of in the West - it would just be nice if they acknowledged it instead of just saying "it came from the guy who created House".
dnahubs -- I remember seeing the K-Drama around the time it first came out. Both version hold up to my standards. If it makes you feel any better it is ALWAYS mention it in the opening credits.
Because she's trying to be "politically correct" or something. Plus most people assume that people with autism or other mental health conditions wouldn't be able to handle this type of or any job really.
Hugh realy did set the bar for English actors on American tv, and here's Freddie more than equal to it and raising it further still. Both brilliant well done chaps 👏👏
This remake one is also as good as the original K-drama. Cant wait to see next episode. BTW everytime i see Freddie on TV, he reminds me this song lol Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka~ The Amazing Chocolatier. Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka~ Everybody give a cheer!...
I am enjoying this show so much. I relate to the main character Shaun a lot as an autistic savant. It's so recognizable. I hope many people watch the shown and besides being entertained I hope they learn from it. It is important that people look more at our strengths instead of our weaknesses, and give us a chance. And Freddie Highmore is really really good.
Remrov's World of Autism Yes, I wish my neighbors at "Climping" Life-care Facility in "Nowhere-near-Sheffield" saw me as *a music geek* and *an American Anglophile* instead of a "weirdo" who "needs to grow up" (their words, not mine). Old people are often such *prudes. It gives me a lump in the throat*
I do like the English remake as well! However.. just for once I wish they would mention how or why they wanted to remake this after watching the Korean version (original). Great actor though!!!
I rarely finished any kdrama. The main character's pretty unique from all those typical rich guy. I have heard some article about how this could be an autism stereotype and I really don't want it to be such the way. Long time I haven't hear the actor talking that clear English, because rest of them just "mumbling" and it's so hard to understand them what are talking about!
I cried in the scene where he tells why he wants to be a surgeon....it was amazing you will not be disappointed
I watched the kdrama long ago, but didn’t expect this one made me cry.
I was feeling sad, but then says, "I want to have lots of money to buy a TV" 😂😂😂😂
I love him
That scene was my favorite. So touching
+ateiluj08
That part about buying a tv cracked me up, a funny reason to become a doctor.

This guys needs every award possible. He's such an amazing actor and so underrated
Agree
I was so pissed that he wasn't nominated for an Emmy, especially for the last season of Bates Motel.
That''ll make up for the award he didn't get for Bates Motel.
Freddie is such an amazing actor. I absolutely love him and he is so underrated it's sad
La diabla facts

Person Person ikr I was shocked

Me too I was crying for an hour 😭😭😭😭
I was like "YOU PIECE OF CRAP"
That scene was hard to watch. I had to turn away the 2nd time I watched it.
Anyone else notice that in the original Korean drama his name is Shi On (시언) and now in this one his name is Shaun. Pretty cool :)
I'm a Korean..
Shion(시온) in Korean sounds like Shaun(숀) in English.
arica luxferre yeah it's cool lol sorry I live in Korea but my Korean isn't great haha
RVillarreal Thank you ^ _ ^.
I hope you have a happy time in Korea. 아프지 말고 건강하길.....
That is exactly why they named him Shaun :)
In the Japanese version it's Shindo

Yes I love the show. He is totally amazing as a Autistic doctor.
I am a huge fan of the Korean drama but the fans of the original are getting REALLY annoying.
Crystal Yu THEY ARE REALLY ANNOYING.

add in the fact that the adaptation constantly puts it into every episode that it's an adaptation. we get it lol

Poor Norman, he think's it's a Doctor😯
maybe a new personality come along, he think he is shaun lol
I love the first episode and it's really amazing! Freddie Highmore is a fantastic actor!
Hope its as good as the Korean version
What you're call the Korean "version" is not a version at all. It is in fact the ORIGINAL that was adapted into an American version.
dnahubs calm down, don't be so sensitive, and enjoy the show, or go watch the k drama if that's your favorite VERSION
You will notice that I did not comment on the show itself or the actors or anything else. I am only saying that the Korean was the original. Love this show....Freddie is fantastic....all the actors are likeable andnthe stories are fantastlc.....good work!!
i just watched it and loved it!!!
Why does she keep saying happens? "A doctor who happens to have autism." Like wtf? He just has autism.
Because she's trying to be "politically correct" or something. Plus most people assume that people with autism or other mental health conditions wouldn't be able to handle this type of or any job really.
I am watching this for the third time the frist two times I cried through them can,t wait to see more well done to all involved.
Hugh realy did set the bar for English actors on American tv, and here's Freddie more than equal to it and raising it further still. Both brilliant well done chaps 👏👏

Shaun a s Freddie are both equally adorable
I never know him as Norman Bates, I looked back and oh that's him, I didn't even realized it.
Long time I haven't hear the actor talking that clear English, because rest of them just "mumbling" and it's so hard to understand them what are talking about!
I am very grateful as someone who has autism that ABC is producing a program like this.
