I know it’s silly, but another driving factor imo for Ping/Titleist/Srixon is that their release cycle is every 2 years, so you don’t feel like you have “old” equipment after a year like the other brands make you feel…

I really appreciate that you've brought up the resale value of these clubs. Over the past few years, so much golf equipment has crossed into a price that is a bit unreasonable for average players. Being able to utilize some value and trade up is such a big part of the buying process now it does effect which brands even more.

Would have been really nice to see two drivers sneak into the competition. The PXG Gen 5 driver is currently $299 with 3 adjustable weight ports and plenty of available stock shaft options. Tour Edge Exotics should have been in the test as well given how well they have fared in other driver shootouts on TXG.

What annoys me the most when you search on line, golf outlets do not have the Ping and Titleist prices they ask you to send for a Quote, other brands no problems.I will stick with my Ping V2 Rapture for now until I win the Lottery😅

Have to agree on the Titleist. Notice on tour just how many non contracted players use the Titleist.
And despite not paying the players the mega bucks like Callaway and Taylormade, it's winning the driver counts on both tours every week, and five years ago that was Taylormade.

  • @mickers4437

Got fitted by Titleist for my Tsr2 at the end of last year and I would recommend this club to anybody. Make sure you are fitted for whatever driver you buy. My 45 minutes with the Titleist pro was the best experience I've ever had purchasing clubs and after 25 rounds I can honestly say it's the best money I've ever spent on golf equipment. It is a fairway heat seeking missile launcher.

  • @Spacegose
    @Spacegose Год назад +1

I have gotten extremely similar results and ball speeds to you, so this is an interesting comparison. The TSR2 and Aerojet are the two drivers I’m in between. Get a little bit more ball speed with the tsr2, but the cobra is super consistent and launches just a bit higher. Feels like it always clears 250 carry for me even on awful strikes were the ball speed drops below 155, where a bad miss for the TSR drops below 230. Feel like for the price and just a bit more forgiveness gives it to Aerojet for me.

I tried the Titleist TSR2 and TSR3. I though they looked, sounded, and felt amazing. I've never tried a driver that felt so good. However, I tested it against my 2017 Callaway GBB Epic, and found no difference in distance, and my bad swings still led to bad results. I saved myself $599.
As for resale, my five year old Epic still sells used for about $200. I think I bought it used in 2019 for $250. They really do hold their value.

If you or anyone like me really believes that flowing the golf shaft is the best way to get the most out of that golf shaft, then the Callaway is the only way to go. Because of its shaft sleeve system the shaft goes in the hosel and any adjustments are made by turning the cams, there in the flowed shaft is never turned away from the sweet spot, which I truly believe is the way to go. The others you turn the shaft all over the spectrum losing the sweet spot of the flowed shaft by turning it adjusting for moving the clubhead up or down in loft. Pay a lot for an after market shaft makes no sense for any of the other driver manufacturers. My opinion, but then it's my money too. Good video Mark, thanks.

I don't swing it the quickest right now, I'm doing speed training etc, but I still prefer the duller sounding clubs, I've got the Cobra Speedzone at the moment and I don't like that higher pitch sound. I know it's daft but it seems to be really loud and echoes a lot in driving range bays that are covered, and it really makes me paranoid to hit it as I feel like I'm putting other people off. But on the course I can tolerate the sound as it doesn't echo so it's not as harsh, but I think that would be a big factor on my next driver, I'd choose one that's got a duller sound so I can swing guilt free on the driving range :D I know that's probably a rubbish reason to buy a driver!

I love cobra drivers, I said this on an earlier video of yours but I used to lean taylormade when it came to drivers and I test them all before buying any, but 5 or 6 years ago I just began leaning more and more cobra every year after testing them. I also think that while they hold their value in the long run well, say three or four years the trade in isn’t much less than say a taylormade driver the same age, I think the year old cobra seems to always be discounted a hundred bucks less than again say the taylormade driver of the same year, and I buy my drivers a year old usually when they’ve been discounted to make room for the new drivers..

Why is it that no one includes PXG drivers in these comparisons tests ? When they do it’s usually the 0211 which is there lowest cost driver and they compare it to drivers that are 3 times the cost. I just purchased a PXG Gen 5 0311 XF for $299, half the cost of the drivers you reviewed here. $600 for a driver, I pay $630 for my annual golf membership which is unlimited golf with a cart at one of the nicest courses here in upper Michigan. $600, I don’t think so

Only had a budget of £350 so tested the Wilson and the Cobra. I take your point about resale value but I don't want to spend an extra £100 plus for marginal performance and maybe something extra back if I sell it. I ordered the Wilson as it was a big step forward over the Yonex VXF I have had for 10 years.

Wilson starting with this line could be turning a corner on brand, too. Their new CEO is really focusing on building tour level products and getting them into tour player hands. So resale might not be as bad as people think in 5 years time.

Great video Mark well presented and I think that you made a very valid point on trade in price and purchase price. Wilson make great clubs and offer superb value and compete with the big brands. To be fair Cleveland and Cobra also offer great value. So on price a bag of clubs only Wilson and Cleveland come in for around £1700-£1800. ( Callaway X series £1100) But and here’s the but yes they will drop in price but you have saved a fortune when purchasing . My Titleist T300 irons and TSI woods are worth £900 on trade in but cost £2700 twelve months ago so premium clubs still cost you. The big brands now come out at £2200-£2800 for a full bag minus putter!
I change every couple years only because like cars the longer you keep them the more you lose. Now I’m retired I spend my money on my hobby golf. Not for everybody I know. I’ve always loved Wilson good products at sensible prices and slightly left field it’s great to out perform your mates and you say Wilson, seriously yes seriously!

IMO the manufacturers who produce a new line once a year their value drops off faster. Cobras from a year ago are dead cheap now. They are basically giving away Rad Speeds. Rogue ST second hand price fell off a cliff. I think Mizuno, Ping and Titleist will hold their value over time since they are on longer release periods.

Imho, manufacturers don't make bad golf clubs, just some can maximise more income than others.
1 question - I guess you used the same golf ball throughout the test, but would different golf balls produce much different results?

My 2004 460CC Adams Redline Driver has served me well, had the shaft shortened and regripped a few years back for better consistency. Will head to 2nd Swing for a fitting and let the chips fall where they may ......

It was the Lite version. I played one round with it and hated it. I sold it for 150.00 the next day. People won't pay much of anything for a used Cleveland. If you love it keep it...

100mph swing speed, moderate tempo. Got fit into the TSR2 10° set at A1, Mitsubishi C6 Red 60 Stiff at 45”. Gained 20 yards carry over my Mizuno STZ. Tested against the new paradym, stealth 2, and Ping g430. TSR2 was hands down the best distance, second to the paradym on dispersion. Paradym was 10 yards shorter for me.

Are you planning to do a commentary video on LIV? Did you already do one? Maybe I missed it. Here’s an idea. Inject a bunch of golf youtubers into the LIV league to add some personalities. I think if LIV wants to succeed they need to increase the hype and personalities for entertainment value because the golf and prize money alone will not be enough to move the golf needle.

Value retention is a lot higher with Ping and Titliest. Callaway nearly half in value on the second-hand market within 12 months. AeroJet won't hold its value like you'd think or hope. Ping G425 up until 8 weeks ago was still going second-hand on eBay for over £300.

Outstanding review Mr Crossfield. I'm that kinda golfer looking for the newest, greatest club on the market to improve distance and accuracy, I also understand that no matter what material is incorporated into today's clubs, the USGA has it's limits on clubface speeds. So no matter what material you choose, it comes down to your personal clubhead speed. Keep up the good work. Appreciate the informative reviews.

    • @canyonaro

The limit is at the hottest point. The innovation in new clubs is to have the face stay hot over a wider area & controlling spin across the face for less drop-off on off-center hits.
I have a lot of drivers and hit dead middle, my TaylorMade SLDR is still the longest. But an inch off center, my Mavrik Max holds up distance WAY better.
