It’s acting without the sets and makeup. It’s hard for most actors to act against nothing literally just a room with a bunch of cameras capturing their movements. Give them all props for a great performance acting to nothing.

So anything they build needs to have those tracker dots applied or else the cameras see nothing. They have built some things that kinda represent furniture and vehicles but it’s bare bones the actors still have to envision it.

Well in casting they casted actors how they wanted them to look like in the game. Motion capture dosnt capture how the actor looks it just captures movement. The animators can turn that into anyone they please. For example the actor who played Dina in LOU 2 is not the person you see in game they used another actors face.
