    Yes sir, great video. But look I have a ATV that was trying to start even with the key off. I did not know but but have now learned that it was a damaged wire and not the solinoid itself, "I purchased another." I had to research so many forums to even get that far. Then I was confused on what wires to look for. Well I've been an A/C tech for many years and figured it out with my meter. But there is no videos on what to look for in that case, and/or where to even start at. I have seen this happen before on my friends mower and the shop charged him dearly. This might be a good video idea if you like. Darn rats and sticks!! Thanks

    The magnetic field doesnt affect the spring strength... (4:35) the magnetic field attracts the core of the moveable contact overcoming the spring force

    I'm trying to fix my electric lift but it only goes down but doesnt lift any ideas Wha can it be or where can I find solenoid like this in the video

      Sounds like the solenoid contacts stopped making good connection. www.texasindustrialelectric.com/relays.asp

      Any starter and alternator repair place will have them 6 pole solenoids Or just do a google search for 6 pole solenoid or go to this web site they have all sorts of types.www.texasindustrialelectric.com/relays.asp

    I have a four pole solenoid but it doesn’t have top posts like yours . I’m not getting power from the left post to the right post. The battery wire is hooked up to the left post. Do I need to put the battery wire on the right post?

      the contacts are either open or closed. That means when you power it up the other happens to be either open or closed. You can always give it a continuity test to find out if you don't know. Also the contacts inside can get burnt to which stops the connection from allowing the current to go through. I,m not sure what you trying to do with it. It's simple though. it's either always open or closed

    Question .. A five pole solenoid AIRTEX/WELLS 1M1025 has a ground pole in the rear of solenoid .. what is the ground pole purpose? Am I correct in thinking that when ground is completed at that pole - it then allow the contacts to be closed inside allowing current to flow through the larger poles (battery / starter) and the I and S terminals in front (much like a FORD Solenoid) stay independent and have power all the time?

      The big lugs are the current carriers there either open or close contacts. The 5th one is the other end of the coil that trigger the contacts to either open or close. The other coil trigger wire will be part of one of the large lugs. Hope that helps. Some of them have two separate coil trigger wires but not all.

      This one has the 2 large current carriers - it also has "I" and "S" AND a ground on the back odf solenoid that confirmed - triggers the current carriers open or closed (spoke with Airtex / Wells this am) so thank for confirming this with me.

    So I'm confused, From my starter wire(activates the magnet) I have power when I go to start the vehicle, however it doesn't engage the starter. And I've used a brand new solenoid and a used one. It will not close the circuit from the battery to the starter. Why is this?

    • @MrDoingEverything
      @MrDoingEverything  8 лет назад +1

      +unrealfmx888 do you make sure all contacting points are clean. It sounds like a dirty contact is all it is. The wire on the starter more so. It could even be the starter is losing its ground to the engine.

      you have your positives and negatives backwards. its switched polarity.

      My dumbass didn't have the solenoid grounded to the body. Major slap to the face for that one. Thanks tho!
