She only said the written Torah has no mention of a messianic figure but he is mentioned in the psalms and prophets. And she briefly, hastily said only a few references to this figure but these references are crucial to identify him especially considering God or His messenger has spoken. Israel must listen to what a prophet of God has spoken, as what God said through Moses. Whilst they may not specifically say 'mashiach', we understand it to mean an anointed person or man, like a king, a priest, a prophet. These include
- from Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)
- Son and Lord of David
- both a priest and king, like Melchizedek and the Person Joshua son of Jehozadak was a type (Zechariah 6)
- rides on a donkey, lowly and humble (Zechariah 9:9)
- from of old and yet lives forever
- the 'David' in the words of the prophets like Ezekiel
And the most specific one, given by the angel Gabriel himself in Daniel 9
- he will be cut off and have nothing
- this would happen after the 69 sevens, after which the sanctuary would be destroyed. For Gabriel to call Him 'Mashiach' he could not be referring to just any earthly king or priest.
Some may want to discredit Daniel but God had warned through Moses not to despise His prophets and His revelations through them. What's more, God through Ezekiel listed Daniel as one of three righteous men.

Uuhhh that's the written Bible. There is no mention of the stuff Christians believe the messiah will do there. No virgin birth, no miracles, no resurrection. The Hebrew Bible is actually quite explicit about what the messiah will do and Jesus did none of those things (well he did ride a donkey, albeit a stolen one...)

And Yeshua didn't ride on a stolen donkey, it was borrowed from the owner who agreed to hand over to them. May I ask what explicit things were written the Mashiach will do according to your knowledge, according to the Tanach (not rabbinical writings)? I don't think you despise what the prophets of old had spoken.

The major problem with the Christian understanding of the Hebrew bible is that they are reading eisegetically while believing that they are reading exegetically. This leads them to accept mistranslations, ambiguities, and out of context references as proofs. That just doesn't wash with people who read exegetically in the original language.

1) about the donkey, what you said about Matthew and Luke was untrue - you only imposed your own opinion in the Greek text - they complement each other, not fix. The apostles did state a request for it from those standing by. Check out Mark 11:5-6: "...and they let them go."
2) about eisegesis and exegesis, again your allegation is untrue - I read out from the text itself and I study Hebrew, so I check both the original and the translation. By the way, I also study Greek. You accuse us of reading into the text, which particular Scriptures for example?
3) you also read into the Hebrew texts with ideas not found in them, some from rabbinical commentaries and your personal viewpoints.
4) even in translation, the committee are scholars in the languages, and when we study the Bible, we consider the text, the context, the crosstexts, and the complete Biblical survey.

Alot of Jews dont study Torah, very few do. I've met alot of ashkenazi Jews here in the US and while deployed in service of my country who unfortunately don't study the five books of Moses and the Prophets or the whole Tanakh. Have you read from the book of Isaiah chapter 53? If you have not. I suggest you should.

@@xp7575 very true that alot of Christians dont read the Tanakh. As for Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews I havent met to many keeping Torah. I myself have Sephardic Jew ancestry, however I wasn't raised in it due to my ancestors being conversos. But to my original statement, most of the Jews I have met in the U.S. are Ashkenazi and were raised going to Synagogue, however they themselves dont practice Torah.

Jesus didn't do what I'm a side was supposed to do. Saying that he'll come back and do it later is a cop out. I like Christianity. I think it's a good thing. The traditional Jewish view is that it brings people who would otherwise be pagans closer to the truth.

Christians have their absolute right to believe Christ is the Messiah, but from a historical POV, Christ did not meet the widely held prerequisites to be a Messiah and other faiths (or lack thereof) have a right to talk about that. First, many Jews are Christians. All the first Christian’s were Jews. Jesus was born, raised, trained in the Torah the Writings and the Prophets.

You don’t become ethnicity Jewish but religiously Jewish.
