1984, we moved to Heritage USA. My dad drove a tram, my mom cleaned and my uncle worked on the TV show. Skating Rink, ice cream shop, Arcade. Such great childhood memories. Thanks for helping bring back those memories.
I'm surprised they didn't keep the skating rink, arcade, etc. for families living on the property. Crazy. So much history of a place lost, a place that could even have been secularized into a much more welcoming theme park for people of all, or no, religious backgrounds.
So very interesting..I watched the programs daily and had no idea how really big the property is. I met Tammy and Roe at a Los Angeles amusement park restaurant I managed. She was so sweet, loving , and graceful. When she left the restaurant she gave me a hug, thanked me for hospitality and told me Jesus loves me. Thanks so much for the tour. It's sad to see the decay
I interviewed Tammy Faye on the phone & she talked to me for like 2 hours in the early 2000's. She was the nicest & kindest person to me. I'm not terribly religious, but I believe she meant well in life & is with the Lord. It's so cool to see what remains of PTL and your video brought it to life for me.
My aunt was married to Jim's nephew for a short amount of time and she never recalled many good memories if this time except the times she would have dinner with Tammy. She said she was a sweetheart.
You know, I've never heard anyone who had an encounter with Tammy Faye that was negative. They all say how sweet and kind she was. I'm sure Jim Baker broke her heart. He was a scoundrel. Definitely had his demons.
What a nice post. I used to work at Heritage USA at Royal Hair Design I was one of the first hairstylist to work there. I also worked with the dinner theater doing make up . A lot of great memories. When heritage shut down, Tammy would came to my hair salon at McMullen Creek market in Prineville SC. The hairstylist from the royal hair design worked at my salon so she felt comfortable. She was the nicest, sweetest lady. Good memories.
My family worked at Heritage USA as well my husband at the time to work transportation my brother drove the buses, my daughter gave tours on the train. My son-in-law to be was a tennis instructor. His brother Dave also drove in transportation at one point the whole family was involved. What a wonderful place to be great memories.
Were you at Royal Hair Design when Vestal Goodman's sister, Millie worked there? People may not know that Royal Hair Design was the place to purchase Tammy Faye Cosmetics.

There is a woman named Charlotte giving info about the prices. It's not Charlotte Whiting. I assume she was connected to the Goodie Barn. Great story! My wife and I went to work for Heritage USA shortly after we were married in 1983. We were both, with our two kids, in the Passion Play. I believe I caught a glimpse of myself as a mean Roman guard in one of your clips. Side note: I was the test pilot for all three crosses. We were on the prayer lines, and I worked for Christmas City until I was offered a job at my church in Salisbury. I was responsible for the inside and outside lights at Main Street USA. And I put up the decorations at Jim and Tammy’s home in Tega Cay, two years in a row. With the negative reports about PTL, your excursion was a breath of fresh air! A lot of great memories! My husband and I were married in Dec. 1987. We took our honeymoon at there. The Christmas lights were spectacular! My parents had memberships and we stayed at the fancy big hotel. Such a wonderful place!
My grandma was Granny from Granny’s Kitchen in the skating rink. She watched my there while my parents worked. My dad was a line cook at the grand hotel and my mom worked the prayer phones. My earliest memories are of PTL and they’re good ones. Thank you for making this.
😂What a wonderful trip down memory lane! My young son and I lived In Simpsoville SC all throughout the eighties and spent many long weekends at Hetitage USA. My son was baptized there by Uncle Henry. We need wonderful places like it was then for families of all ages to fellowship. ❤
I camped at Heritage one time. It was in the mid 80s. I was an assistant youth counselor for our church youth group. We took a bus load of kids to Heritage for a week. So many memories. I remember attending a few of the PTL tapings. I remember taking the youth to a pool one afternoon. I remember a camp meeting going on in a large building (The Barn). But the most memorable and impactful thing for me was going to the Upper Room Chapel one evening around midnight, going into one of the small prayer cubbies, sitting on the floor and praying until dawn for the kids. That night I had a unique encounter with God that changed me. There was this serene peace all over me. Surely the presence of God was in that place. At dawn I went back to our campsite. Never got any sleep that night. At breakfast, our youth director Connie looked at me and said, "What happened to you?! I see something in your eyes and there is a glow about you." I am grateful that the Upper Room Chapel is still standing. When I saw that on your video I got emotional.

The ministry was a great spiritual strength during some trying years of my, now 49 year faith walk as a prayer intercessor... when things turned upside down at PTL, I did not abandon them... God be Praised... . as a preacher's kid, we hold honor and love toward especially ministers, as unto Christ. I grew up on the grounds of Heritage. Both my parents worked there--my dad ran sound for the show and my mom was a banquet hall manager. I remember the campground when there was nothing but a swimming pool and no hotel or any of that! My brother and I camped--ALONE--in that campground as kids and never thought twice! The guards knew us and kept an eye on us. When they built the roller rink, I thought I had died and gone to heaven! I recall that place from beginning to end. I have seen about every video out there from people who have gone back over the years, but yours is by far the best! Great quality, production, music, and your speaking voice is wonderful for narration! Just wanted to say thanks for taking me with you on a stroll down memory lane! Carowinds was right down the road but who wanted that when you had Heritage USA?! I still miss it.

Born and raised 10 minutes away in Rock Hill, SC in 1986 I missed most of the glory days. However, in 2003-2008 my best friend at the time, Jessica was OBSESSED with the "decay" that was active at the time. We would spend hours doing urbex and generally what you've captured here. Thank you so much for making this. I wish I could shake your hand, this is an invaluable resource. To hear the joy in your voice recalling the vacation experiences from when you were a kid is truly delightful.
I started watching Jim and Tammy in the 1980’s. I was very depressed. They lifted me up. I accepted Jesus. I wrote them a letters and they read it on TV. I was so shocked to hear my letter read, but it was wonderful ❤️🙏
This was great man. My Dad worked there in the Roads & Development Department. In my early teens he would take me to work with him in the summer time, and I would just spend all day being a kid all by myself all over those grounds. Then when I turned 17, I got a job there and worked there for 4 years mowing grass in the Lawn Maintenance Department. I've mowed every inch of those grounds bro. Lord how time has flown by. I did not buy into Jim and Tammy Bakkers PTL, but I found this video delightful. You narrated in a way that made me reminisce of my own youth and the days of being so young as to not have a worry in the world. I miss those days.
Heritage USA was a great place, and the ministry of Jim and Tammy Bakker did a lot of good during it's existence. My wife and I adopted our oldest child from their adoption agency in 1985, that event in and of itself, will always be a wonderful time in our lives, thanks to the ministry of Jim & Tammy Bakker.

I always wanted to go. I never got to. But I will always thank God for Tammy. She sang “Don’t give up your on the Brink of a Miracle” and as it would turn out, she was absolutely right. I would listen and pray and thank God for doing that. And he certainly did.
My ex-husband and I both visited Heritage USA as kids. In around 2007, we attended a writer’s conference hosted by the ministry that now owns the building and we stayed right in the Grand Hotel. It was surreal! At that time renovations were taking place and a lot of the “old” features were still around. The remnants of the water park including the rotunda and pieces of the park were still there. We were able to cross that bridge and walk all around. As we walked and drove around the property, little and big “artifacts” brought back so many memories. It was a special trip.

I worked for Laura Ashley (from the ending footage) in one of their clothing stores before they closed them all 20 yrs ago. I loved that company. I had completely forgotten our home office was there! Thanks so much for the drone footage! Prior to that I ran another clothing store from a manufacturer in an outlet mall on I-75 in southern GA in the early 90's. One day Tammy Faye walks in with a few women to shop. She was SO bubbly and told us she was on her way to see Jim in prison in FL. She was a hustler too, lol. She had no problem asking me to get on the phone with the owner of the company and tell him that SHE was in his store and she wanted a 50% off discount on her purchase! He gave it to her! haha So happy I got to meet her. Also wanted to say what a beautiful job you did editing, producing and narrating this video. Fabulous!
The PTL ministry has such a negative reputation, so it was very refreshing to see a video remembering happy times spent at the property from a personal point of view without defending or condemning the ministry itself. Thank you.
Started work with the PTL Club before the grounds were purchased. Watched it grow. The ups and downs. Met hundreds of Christians from around the world who came to Heritage USA. Even as a worker we had great fun. What wonderful memories we had. Miss the people.

What a great video! Despite my being a cynical agnostic/atheist I have always been fascinated with Jim and Tammy Bakker and remember watching their television program and marveling at every announcement of their new ventures. I literally watched them build Heritage USA bit by bit on the show. When I was in the Charlotte area a few years back I just had to explore the old Heritage USA development despite my only knowing it from television! While their fundraising methods were of course highly suspect as was their personal lifestyle they were actually building something real that obviously was making many families happy and that it was certainly a happy memory for you! Thanks so much for sharing your own personal memories.
Very well put Ricky. What Jim Bakker did was of course inexcusable but there was so much good that was brought out of HUSA. I really wish I could’ve been a part of it all. Always remember the good because there was so much!

@@vickimanager I am with you as well, as an atheist I'm fascinated with the Bakkers and what they represented- I think because I did not grow up in any sort of religious household and so it was so different from what I was used to. My parents used to get up early to watch Bob Tilton and Jimmy Swaggart for the humor of their histrionics, not the message. I think that any culture that is different from our own is inherently interesting due to natural human curiosity.
I was a security guard in the hotel before Covid hit. I really want to go and see some of the original structure! Great video. And for the lights in the Tower. They are always on. I worked 3rd shift
Thank you for the best documentary of Heritage USA. Like many other older folks , I watched the PTL broadcasts . I watched from Canada. I was so moved by the Bakkers determination in building this dream park/ resort. It was a miracle. Jim asked the Lord and the Lord made it happen. So did millions of people that donated or bought memberships. I'm very pleased that so much remains especially the Upper room. Great video .
My sis and her family bought a lifetime membership before it was built. It was 1000’s of dollars. Of course they never got any money back but they did visit a couple of times.
The movie, "The Eyes of Tammy Faye" brought me here. It seems a lot of people piled on to destroy the couple. However, her faith prevailed to the end. I am glad you found the hornet's nest. It illustrates that they never change. Regardless of men's follies, the hornets still do their thing at Heritage USA!! Maybe we can take a lesson from those hornets.

I can't thank you enough for sharing this! We seem to be around the same age, but I was raised pretty solidly secular (and presumably in a different part of the country as this would have been a pretty monumental road trip from my home town). Over the years, most of what I've known about PTL and the Bakkers has been the salacious stuff, so naturally I always associated Heritage USA with the scandals. It was very enlightening to not only see the grounds but hear the story from your perspective. Peace and respect, friend!
My parents went to PTL quite a bit back in the 80s. We lived in Greensboro, and groups from our church would regularly travel to Fort Mill for a day or two. My parents have pictures of the barn. Wow, just wow…thanks for sharing and taking time to show what remains after all these years!
I drove there in October 1984 in my new Civic hatchback. I camped in a pup tent, used the shower facilities, and the general store for supplies. Everyone there was so friendly and godly, even the gas station attendants! I ate several times at McMooses and loved the topping bar for ice cream. I attended the Passion Play, heard bluegrass gospel in front of the lake, and toured the Grand Hotel before it opened. I sat through several PTL broadcasts and special meetings. There was a studio besides the Barn Auditorium. I volunteered one day to make ready hundreds of C7 light strings they were installing on multiple groupings of trees throughout the park. It was a beautiful place.

At the time I was born again Christian and watch PTL often. I bought my parents 2 “Memberships”. I bought one for myself. My parents went twice and had a wonderful time. I was busy working and could not go. It was so disheartening to see what happened to this beautiful place. However, just to hear the joy in my parents voices and see the many pictures they took was worth the investment to make them happy. My heart goes out to all who were effected by the closing of Heritage USA.
I'm honestly surprised it's still in such good shape despite being largely abandoned-- meaning, it hasn't been entirely wrecked for scrap metal or covered in graffiti. Hopefully parts of it will be renovated someday, although I'm sure asbestos or whatever might play a problem in attempting to do so .
I was never an avid follower of PTL, but one of my best friends was. I vaguely remember them setting up the membership program, and asking for donations to build. This place looks amazing, and I had NO idea it was so huge! It looks like it was built well, and very tasteful. I love your video and hearing about your great memories, also from all the people who’ve chimed in here. I’m appreciative of your positive vibe and respect you have for the former ministry, despite the outcome. Thank you for this video.
I took a dive into Tammy Faye today. I'm not a religious person but I love history. Thank you for this video. Glad you were able to revisit this memory of your youth and thanks for bringing us along. I thought that looked more like a wasps nest. I thought hornets nests were made of mud.
My whole family worked there growing up, my mom was a life guard, my grandma and grandpa were apart of the dining and security and my uncle was a life guard as well. I was also in the video the kid with the book bag on fishing loved the video
It was a wonderful idea. Just needed be handle better. Got out of control. The devil didn't want a Heritage USA where you could have a good time as a Christian and people employed there it's a shame it didn't work out. I know Jim and Tammy didn't do everything right but I think their heart was in the right place. They wanted make a place for Christian to enjoy. I don't dislike Rev. Farwell but he should stay out of it. Even different denomination Baptist & Pentecostal had differences the way they worship. It's just SAD 😥
Thank you for posting this video. Some of my best vacation memories as a teenager were from Heritage USA. Really miss that place. I remember going into some little building where they rented sports equipment, and Jim Bakker was in there with some executives and they were showing him different choices for Tammy's new album cover. They were going on and on about how good she looked in the different album covers, and Jim looked over at us and laughed. Despite everything that happened, he really had built an amazing place for Christians of all denominations to come together to vacation, relax, and worship. I'm glad that at least some parts of it still exist.
Man this brings back some incredible times from my childchood. I was there, 1985 or 86. Parents bought a lifetime membership. Only got to go one time, but WOW the memories! It's hard to explain the sense of freedom we had running around this magical place. Thanks so much for sharing this, editing is outstanding!
Me and my cousin and his two kids went down to Charlotte on Sept 22, 1989 later in the day after Hurricane Hugo had been through there. The next day Sept 23,1989 we drove down to what had been Heritage USA… It was neat to drive through and see what had brought so many people Such Happiness!! Thanks so much for making this Video!! We too, spent several years heavily involved at PTL/Heritage USA! My late husband was a youth pastor for a while, and I taught at the school, Heritage Academy. My older kids ran around the Youth Center and loved Buffalo Park as well! I want to thank you for such a positive remembrance of the experiences there....it’s a refreshing change from so much negative press! It’s nice to hear your fond memories! There are many ministries still operating in various locations throughout the property that was Heritage. Through the years following its closing, whenever I had reason to go there, I would weep/ grieving the loss of all that was good about the ministry that happened here. Thank again for your positive, fun blast into the past! I hope you get to go back and connect with Steve Martin, or others at Antioch Church, or Pastor Ron Lambright at the Upper Room Chapel. They have a Facebook page and you can see they have restored the interior and have church there. 😊
My memories are mixed - some wonderful ones, some very sad. My husband was the director of the Fort Hope ministry there and we saw many lives changed. Two of my children attended Heritage Academy. Our son attended 6th grade and our daughter, kindergarten. Her teacher was Ms. Lentz or Lutz. One of her friends was Ron Lambright's daughter.
This is literally amazing because you actually lived it. I loved your perspective and how you said as kids you all could just run around all day. So fun to relive this vicariously with you.
I am 75 now and back in the 70's and 80's was caught up in the Charismatic and Word of Faith movements. The spiritual atmosphere then, including PTL , seemed to infuse these with prevailing attitudes of the time. I see megachurches in our area as a product of those times. Thank you for sharing the memories.
PTL did a lot of good for so many and his heart was in it. If it was greed he would have stopped building and would have stock piled all the money and kept it for himself. He gave away more than he made and helped the disabled the sick and gave help to the needy. He is still a great man with a huge heart for mankind and God. I find no fault in him..he only loved God and provided first class facilities for Gods people.

You have no knowledge of the tremendous amount of good, of helping so many families, of helping individuals not only financially, but in other generous ways. Even now, I am saddened at how people simply blast The Bakers without any understanding, knowledge of the very real plot to destroy not only them, but everything good that was built. Few of these type of humans have no real sense of what went on behind the scenes. Even something as simple as the doghouse, which didn't even belong to The Bakers, but belonged to the doctor next door! And bigger than all? The lack of forgiveness. As though those who did persecute, and still do! For they forget? Or maybe they don't believe that they too sin, break Laws, do dirt, etc. "For all have sinned!" You, me, and every human on earth! A penny stolen is no less of a sin as if it were a million pennies. Wrong is wrong. Let us not condemn, over and over, for the sins of others! All the while never admitting our own sins.
Wrong. Megachurch began with Roman Catholic Church and Vatican Rule thousands of years ago. PTL was far from the murderous, percecuting, evil which boiled from Catholicism and Popes, of old and of new. You speak half truths, and speak from underneath the tongue of the devil. I remember Heritage very well!! My friend Rita lived/worked there in the early 80s when everything went awry for the Bakers. I remember the Upper Room Chapel and the stained glass circles bathing the inside with a warm crimson red throughout the chapel… it was very beautiful and inviting. This wassa version fond memory!! My husband and I camped there a couple days in '81. Spotless! Everyone was in a good mood. No obnoxious people. We enjoyed a few activities. So relaxing!
Yes...Everyone was in a good mood...and talking about the Lord. To this day...I remember the creaminess Orange Sherbert Ice Cream!! ...at the Ice Cream Shop!! Just the BEST! A Young man Latino was just full of the Lord! He turned around on the tram...and just began telling us his testimony!! One the weekends if somebody did not come home...they called the local jail...to find the rest of his family members. And proudly...spoke about being radically save. There was gonna be a Full Gospel Busineesman's meeting that night about 100 miles away. This Latio guy invited my husband to join him.
So they went to that meeting. The speaker was Sir Lionel LaCoo..the former attorney...for the late mass murderer...Jim Jones! Sir Lionel...AS A famous attorney who never loses a case...he was radically saved and surrendered his life to Jesus Christ..one week before the Great mass killing of almost 1,000 believers following Jim Jones!! He told how he had never met Mr Jones...IN person..was handling his affairs/paper work...long distance. Once he was saved he terminated his business relationship totally. My Jones had invited him to join them...on the day...of the mass killing. Because Sir Lionel got saved one week before...God kept him safe...and he was out telling his fab testimony!! My husband even brought the cassette home for me to enjoy!
In 2004, I saw the abandoned Heritage Park before the property was redeveloped. While visiting Charlotte, I took a bike ride south into SC with no specific destination in mind. During the ride, I came upon the remains of a huge complex. Its abandoned buildings had fallen into disrepair and the expansive parking area was fissured and filled with weeds. I was the only human present--absolutely eerie. It was evident that a lot of money had been expended on that failed project. Only later did it dawn on me that it was Jim and Tammy Faye's place (or what was left of it). What a waste!
This is the best Heritage USA video documentary I have ever seen. I used to live nearby, and I visited the former park in 2007. By then, most of the park facilities were long gone. Most of the buildings and structures were removed years ago. It was sad to see the tall hotel rotting away. I can only imagine the money that was wasted on that particular project. I was in my mid-twenties during the height of the PTL Ministry. All that PTL activity is now just a memory.
So the day you were exploring the barn I was there working. That was my red car in the parking lot. Sorry I missed you. Could have shown you more. I also spent a few years of my youth there. I played in the water park, roller skating ring and the castle. Went to the main street shops in the grand hotel with my school in a field trip. Good memories. Thanks for putting this video together. If your ever by again, stop by the barn and studio. I'm there most days.
The music perfectly sets the stage for this odyssey into the past. The experience is like a deja vu of sorts, a reminder that we are all time travelers, hurtling through space on a rocky planet. Most of us miss the experience while going through it, but in hindsight wonder how we let it slip by in its fuller detail. It is incredible to think that one couple’s vision could produce such a complex of buildings and activities for others to enjoy. Compared to other buildings, many of these are in great shape and repair. It is heartwarming to see that they are still serving good purpose, even though some are repurposed. Isn’t memory an interesting function of human consciousness? After Jim was released from prison, and remarried, I think he made his way to Branson Missouri area, and started over with a camping and lodging facility, including studios. His shows are posted on RUclips now.

Great video! I am amazed that there were so many structures, all of them requiring artistic/creative input from a wide variety of architects and craftspeople. The Bakers kept a lot of builders busy! After viewing, I had to Google the history of the theme park. How they found all the talent, did all the drawings and brought so many workers together is nearly incomprehensible. The plot of land has been divided, with some of the pieces sold a number of times. The hotel is still a Christian operation. There is also the dark underbelly of the original ownership under Jim and Tammy. As the old saying goes, you can't make this stuff up. Thanks!
Looking back through memories of my younger years is sometimes so tearful. It's kind of heartbreaking when you see the places we once played as kids have since long gone. This travelogue of yours is so well done. Reminds me of the look back documentary done a while back telling the story of Action-Park (New Jersey). I've been to neither place, but watching clips and hearing stories gives such a great idea of how things were, with many similarities to places I spent time at. Life truly is great at times, but catches you off guard when you realize just how short life really is.

I was on staff at Antioch International Church, owners of The Barn and Studio, up until May 30, 2020. If I knew you were coming I would have let you inside the Barn and Studio to show everyone. You can still come and see. Open every Wednesday night at 7 pm and Sunday mornings at 10 am for church services. Come on! P.S. Our family had 3 Lifetime Memberships, so we too remember the 1985-1987 years when we went each year. Morningside Church has done a great job in restoring the Grand Hotel too.
I'll never go to Morningside again. They treated me like I was trying to steal $20 worth of stuff because I was trying to return it because the girl wouldn't get off the phone to ring us up. She actually had a security guy who looked like Howdy Doody come down and tell me it was time to go. Horrible attitudes and hateful demeanors. I regret the $20 in gas I spent to get there not to mention the embarrassment it caused me and my family.
Great memories as a child going there for various functions, handmade candles, fudge and of course the Christmas lights! I actually live in the new apartments right beside the unfinished hotel. Thx for all your hard work making this documentary. Unless you went there no one could understand what a fabulous place PTL was for all ages. My sister and I prayed together in the upper room that god was bless her with a child. Just over 9 months latter my nephew was born. Brings tears to my eyes. I wonder whatever happened to the huge satellite they had there? Thx again!

Never been here, only learned about the Bakkers after watching the movie. And yet this had me choked up and very emotional and I dont know why. It was beautiful and you could see their vision in the old structures that was tbe former glory of Heritage USA. Thank you for sharing this beautiful video which you have so masterfully put together.

I had always heard of PTL-in the ‘80s it was a household name regardless of your faith-but I could never fathom the scope of just how immense this place was! This is incredible! I wonder what’s kept it all from being torn down? I would have sworn the lands would have been sold off and buildings torn down to make way for something new by now!

I never knew how large and active the Heritage complex was. People seem to have fond memories of vacationing and visiting there. They built a phomenial complex.
In 1979 I was 10months old. Ellie May from Beverly Hills, took me up on stage! Thank you so much! This is blast from the past! Later in mid 80's you could find me at one of the tennis courts that they made a skateboard park and the roller skating rink playing arcade games while eating tons of fudge. Thank you!
I hung out there back then too. I would bring a couple younger skater friends up in my big old Buick and I'd usually bring my mountain bike. Good times. 😎👍
Wow…this brings back some memories. I only went to Heritage twice in my life, but I can recall going there in 1992 as an 8 year old fairly vividly. Some of my main memories were playing The Avengers arcade game in the skating rink and being selected out of the audience to participate in one of the plays by the lake. It’s surreal to see how much it has all changed.

To me the Heritage tower looks absolutely stunning. It kinda looks like a European brutalist tower block for social housing, except covered with bricks. I'm glad to hear that work finally started to preserve it.
Oh my gosh I love this place. I enjoyed so much time there with my Poppaw and he was a lifetime member until all the things happened. I talk about it so often about the campground and theWendy’s castle. The shops on either side of the brick road when you looked up, it was sky in the bistro on one end the grand piano playing in the main hall. The passion play was just everything I remember going to the waterpark in getting a bills frozen lemonade. Tammy Faye’s wedding dress being in a glass case in the hotel just all of the things the general store the trams it was absolutely wonderful. It’s sad when people let things go to their head. If only he would have let God lead him where could it have been today?

My wife and I went to Jim Bakker's new place South of Branson a few years ago. We watched his show live there. I won't judge him. I believe many people came to love Jesus because of his ministry. We are all sinners though.
My husband and I visited PTL twice with our kids and had an amazing time. We went to their marriage workshop, and Jim popped in during one of the sessions. I was shocked when things fell apart, but I held no bad feelings toward Jim and Tammy. People make mistakes, and they certainly paid for theirs. I try to catch some of Jim and Lori's shows and feel that some people are so unforgiving, saying they feel he is a con artist and will always be one. I prefer to believe he is doing what God has called him to do.
Did a great job on your video, I remember, You Can Make It! And I would watch Jim & Tammy, every day during the week, it's amazing the Lawyer that got Jim out of Prison, he thought he had been wrongly convicted. He is a famous Lawyer and he came to Jim and told he would represent him pro bono! Alan Dershowitz was the attorney that got Jim out of a 40yr sentence to only 4yrs!

Now I am wondering. Was the hotel always run by the Raddison?? When I was there in the early 90's, I thought it was all under Raddison ownership. My friend's mom went there from Ohio and they asked me to go with them from Illinois. The bumper cars and theme park were still there but no longer running. They were still doing tours in something but I do not remember if it was the tram. I just remember going on a tour. Her mom met her sister from S Carolina at the hotel. My friend and I stayed in S Carolina for the week but picked her mom up on Sat after a week long Women's conference. Jim Bakker had already gone to prison when we were there. When we picked them up we took a tour and the towers still had a crane in the center where it had been left. The waterpark was still there and a Wendy's in the rotunda above the waterpark.
The inside of Main Street looks the same. I’ve been in the grand hotel many times. It’s morning star church and their school. You can still book a hotel room there when they have conferences. The hotel rooms look exactly the same as well. They still give you a big brass key for your hotel room when you check in. Many rooms have been converted into condos, but when I stayed there a few years ago, our room was right over main street and our indoor balcony overlooked main street.
I spent a lot of my time as a kid there. I was a preachers daughter and my Dad was friends with James Robinson and we’d often go while he was there preaching. Christmas time there was unbelievably beautiful and I can remember it vividly all these years later. Tammy Faye presented me with a talking Tammy Faye doll in front of the massive Christmas tree in the Grand hotel at a Christmas party they had. Some of my fondest childhood memories. Thank you for the video. It plucked at my heart strings.

My husband and I were actually students at the Heritage School of Communication and Evangelism, where we met for the first time here in 1980. You are right - it was great to be there and your video brought back many memories.
1984, we moved to Heritage USA. My dad drove a tram, my mom cleaned and my uncle worked on the TV show.
Skating Rink, ice cream shop, Arcade. Such great childhood memories. Thanks for helping bring back those memories.

I'm surprised they didn't keep the skating rink, arcade, etc. for families living on the property. Crazy. So much history of a place lost, a place that could even have been secularized into a much more welcoming theme park for people of all, or no, religious backgrounds.

So very interesting..I watched the programs daily and had no idea how really big the property is. I met Tammy and Roe at a Los Angeles amusement park restaurant I managed. She was so sweet, loving , and graceful. When she left the restaurant she gave me a hug, thanked me for hospitality and told me Jesus loves me. Thanks so much for the tour. It's sad to see the decay
I interviewed Tammy Faye on the phone & she talked to me for like 2 hours in the early 2000's. She was the nicest & kindest person to me. I'm not terribly religious, but I believe she meant well in life & is with the Lord. It's so cool to see what remains of PTL and your video brought it to life for me.

My aunt was married to Jim's nephew for a short amount of time and she never recalled many good memories if this time except the times she would have dinner with Tammy. She said she was a sweetheart.

What a nice post. I used to work at Heritage USA at Royal Hair Design I was one of the first hairstylist to work there. I also worked with the dinner theater doing make up . A lot of great memories. When heritage shut down, Tammy would came to my hair salon at McMullen Creek market in Prineville SC. The hairstylist from the royal hair design worked at my salon so she felt comfortable. She was the nicest, sweetest lady. Good memories.
My family worked at Heritage USA as well my husband at the time to work transportation my brother drove the buses, my daughter gave tours on the train. My son-in-law to be was a tennis instructor. His brother Dave also drove in transportation at one point the whole family was involved. What a wonderful place to be great memories.
Were you at Royal Hair Design when Vestal Goodman's sister, Millie worked there? People may not know that Royal Hair Design was the place to purchase Tammy Faye Cosmetics.

There is a woman named Charlotte giving info about the prices. It's not Charlotte Whiting. I assume she was connected to the Goodie Barn. Also this video about Heritage as it is today is really incredible! Quest Capsule deserves an Emmy!

Great story! My wife and I went to work for Heritage USA shortly after we were married in 1983. We were both, with our two kids, in the Passion Play. I believe I caught a glimpse of myself as a mean Roman guard in one of your clips. Side note: I was the test pilot for all three crosses. We were on the prayer lines, and I worked for Christmas City until I was offered a job at my church in Salisbury. I was responsible for the inside and outside lights at Main Street USA. And I put up the decorations at Jim and Tammy’s home in Tega Cay, two years in a row. With the negative reports about PTL, your excursion was a breath of fresh air! A lot of great memories! My husband and I were married in Dec. 1987. We took our honeymoon at there. The Christmas lights were spectacular! My parents had memberships and we stayed at the fancy big hotel. Such a wonderful place!
My grandma was Granny from Granny’s Kitchen in the skating rink. She watched my there while my parents worked. My dad was a line cook at the grand hotel and my mom worked the prayer phones. My earliest memories are of PTL and they’re good ones. Thank you for making this.

😂What a wonderful trip down memory lane! My young son and I lived In Simpsoville SC all throughout the eighties and spent many long weekends at Hetitage USA. My son was baptized there by Uncle Henry. We need wonderful places like it was then for families of all ages to fellowship. ❤
I camped at Heritage one time. It was in the mid 80s. I was an assistant youth counselor for our church youth group. We took a bus load of kids to Heritage for a week. So many memories. I remember attending a few of the PTL tapings. I remember taking the youth to a pool one afternoon. I remember a camp meeting going on in a large building (The Barn). But the most memorable and impactful thing for me was going to the Upper Room Chapel one evening around midnight, going into one of the small prayer cubbies, sitting on the floor and praying until dawn for the kids. That night I had a unique encounter with God that changed me. There was this serene peace all over me. Surely the presence of God was in that place. At dawn I went back to our campsite. Never got any sleep that night. At breakfast, our youth director Connie looked at me and said, "What happened to you?! I see something in your eyes and there is a glow about you."
I am grateful that the Upper Room Chapel is still standing. When I saw that on your video I got emotional.

The ministry was a great spiritual strength during some trying years of my, now 49 year faith walk as a prayer intercessor... when things turned upside down at PTL, I did not abandon them... God be Praised... . as a preacher's kid, we hold honor and love toward especially ministers, as unto Christ. Thanks again, I delighted in seeing the property and buildings, etc, always wondered what happened to this great God inspired Wonder. Lord bless you and yours. I grew up on the grounds of Heritage. Both my parents worked there--my dad ran sound for the show and my mom was a banquet hall manager. I remember the campground when there was nothing but a swimming pool and no hotel or any of that! My brother and I camped--ALONE--in that campground as kids and never thought twice! The guards knew us and kept an eye on us. When they built the roller rink, I thought I had died and gone to heaven! I recall that place from beginning to end. I have seen about every video out there from people who have gone back over the years, but yours is by far the best! Great quality, production, music, and your speaking voice is wonderful for narration! Just wanted to say thanks for taking me with you on a stroll down memory lane! Carowinds was right down the road but who wanted that when you had Heritage USA?! I still miss it.

How right you are. I just met someone in Tega Cay and all she talked about was negative. Mainly because that's all she heard and knew about. Born and raised 10 minutes away in Rock Hill, SC in 1986 I missed most of the glory days. However, in 2003-2008 my best friend at the time, Jessica was OBSESSED with the "decay" that was active at the time. We would spend hours doing urbex and generally what you've captured here. Thank you so much for making this. I wish I could shake your hand, this is an invaluable resource. To hear the joy in your voice recalling the vacation experiences from when you were a kid is truly delightful.

I started watching Jim and Tammy in the 1980’s. I was very depressed. They lifted me up. I accepted Jesus. I wrote them a letters and they read it on TV. I was so shocked to hear my letter read, but it was wonderful ❤️🙏
This was great man. My Dad worked there in the Roads & Development Department. In my early teens he would take me to work with him in the summer time, and I would just spend all day being a kid all by myself all over those grounds. Then when I turned 17, I got a job there and worked there for 4 years mowing grass in the Lawn Maintenance Department. I've mowed every inch of those grounds bro. Lord how time has flown by. Who knows buddy you an I may have shared a soda in a tram stop back in the day lol. Thanks for the trip down memory lane man. It sure brought back some fond ones. 💯👍

Heritage USA was a great place, and the ministry of Jim and Tammy Bakker did a lot of good during it's existence. My wife and I adopted our oldest child from their adoption agency in 1985, that event in and of itself, will always be a wonderful time in our lives, thanks to the ministry of Jim & Tammy Bakker.

I always wanted to go. I never got to. But I will always thank God for Tammy. She sang “Don’t give up your on the Brink of a Miracle” and as it would turn out, she was absolutely right. I would listen and pray and thank God for doing that. And he certainly did.
My ex-husband and I both visited Heritage USA as kids. In around 2007, we attended a writer’s conference hosted by the ministry that now owns the building and we stayed right in the Grand Hotel. It was surreal! At that time renovations were taking place and a lot of the “old” features were still around. The remnants of the water park including the rotunda and pieces of the park were still there. We were able to cross that bridge and walk all around. As we walked and drove around the property, little and big “artifacts” brought back so many memories. It was a special trip.
I worked in the fudge shoppe from the time it opened until it was shut down. I basically spent my teen years all over Heritage USA. Such great memories. Thanks for sharing.

I worked for Laura Ashley (from the ending footage) in one of their clothing stores before they closed them all 20 yrs ago. I loved that company. I had completely forgotten our home office was there! Thanks so much for the drone footage! Prior to that I ran another clothing store from a manufacturer in an outlet mall on I-75 in southern GA in the early 90's. One day Tammy Faye walks in with a few women to shop. She was SO bubbly and told us she was on her way to see Jim in prison in FL. She was a hustler too, lol. She had no problem asking me to get on the phone with the owner of the company and tell him that SHE was in his store and she wanted a 50% off discount on her purchase! He gave it to her! haha So happy I got to meet her.

The PTL ministry has such a negative reputation, so it was very refreshing to see a video remembering happy times spent at the property from a personal point of view without defending or condemning the ministry itself.

Started work with the PTL Club before the grounds were purchased. Watched it grow. The ups and downs. Met hundreds of Christians from around the world who came to Heritage USA. Even as a worker we had great fun. What wonderful memories we had. Miss the people.

What a great video! Despite my being a cynical agnostic/atheist I have always been fascinated with Jim and Tammy Bakker and remember watching their television program and marveling at every announcement of their new ventures. I literally watched them build Heritage USA bit by bit on the show. When I was in the Charlotte area a few years back I just had to explore the old Heritage USA development despite my only knowing it from television! While their fundraising methods were of course highly suspect as was their personal lifestyle they were actually building something real that obviously was making many families happy and that it was certainly a happy memory for you! Thanks so much for sharing your own personal memories.

@@vickimanager I am with you as well, as an atheist I'm fascinated with the Bakkers and what they represented- I think because I did not grow up in any sort of religious household and so it was so different from what I was used to. My parents used to get up early to watch Bob Tilton and Jimmy Swaggart for the humor of their histrionics, not the message.
I think that any culture that is different from our own is inherently interesting due to natural human curiosity.
I was a security guard in the hotel before Covid hit. I really want to go and see some of the original structure! Great video. And for the lights in the Tower. They are always on. I worked 3rd shift

Thank you for the best documentary of Heritage USA. Like many other older folks , I watched the PTL broadcasts . I watched from Canada. I was so moved by the Bakkers determination in building this dream park/ resort. It was a miracle. Jim asked the Lord and the Lord made it happen. So did millions of people that donated or bought memberships. I'm very pleased that so much remains especially the Upper room. Great video .

My sis and her family bought a lifetime membership before it was built. It was 1000’s of dollars. Of course they never got any money back but they did visit a couple of times.
The movie, "The Eyes of Tammy Faye" brought me here. It seems a lot of people piled on to destroy the couple. However, her faith prevailed to the end. I am glad you found the hornet's nest. It illustrates that they never change. Regardless of men's follies, the hornets still do their thing at Heritage USA!! Maybe we can take a lesson from those hornets.

I can't thank you enough for sharing this! We seem to be around the same age, but I was raised pretty solidly secular (and presumably in a different part of the country as this would have been a pretty monumental road trip from my home town). Over the years, most of what I've known about PTL and the Bakkers has been the salacious stuff, so naturally I always associated Heritage USA with the scandals. It was very enlightening to not only see the grounds but hear the story from your perspective. Peace and respect, friend!

My parents went to PTL quite a bit back in the 80s. We lived in Greensboro, and groups from our church would regularly travel to Fort Mill for a day or two. My parents have pictures of the barn. Wow, just wow…thanks for sharing and taking time to show what remains after all these years!
I drove there in October 1984 in my new Civic hatchback. I camped in a pup tent, used the shower facilities, and the general store for supplies. Everyone there was so friendly and godly, even the gas station attendants! I ate several times at McMooses and loved the topping bar for ice cream. I attended the Passion Play, heard bluegrass gospel in front of the lake, and toured the Grand Hotel before it opened. I sat through several PTL broadcasts and special meetings. There was a studio besides the Barn Auditorium. I volunteered one day to make ready hundreds of C7 light strings they were installing on multiple groupings of trees throughout the park. It was a beautiful place.

At the time I was born again Christian and watch PTL often. I bought my parents 2 “Memberships”. I bought one for myself. My parents went twice and had a wonderful time. I was busy working and could not go. It was so disheartening to see what happened to this beautiful place. However, just to hear the joy in my parents voices and see the many pictures they took was worth the investment to make them happy. My heart goes out to all who were effected by the closing of Heritage USA.
I'm honestly surprised it's still in such good shape despite being largely abandoned-- meaning, it hasn't been entirely wrecked for scrap metal or covered in graffiti. Hopefully parts of it will be renovated someday, although I'm sure asbestos or whatever might play a problem in attempting to do so .

I was never an avid follower of PTL, but one of my best friends was. I vaguely remember them setting up the membership program, and asking for donations to build. This place looks amazing, and I had NO idea it was so huge! It looks like it was built well, and very tasteful. I love your video and hearing about your great memories, also from all the people who’ve chimed in here. I’m appreciative of your positive vibe and respect you have for the former ministry, despite the outcome. Thank you for this video.

My whole family worked there growing up, my mom was a life guard, my grandma and grandpa were apart of the dining and security and my uncle was a life guard as well. I was also in the video the kid with the book bag on fishing loved the video

It was a wonderful idea. Just needed be handle better. Got out of control. The devil didn't want a Heritage USA where you could have a good time as a Christian and people employed there it's a shame it didn't work out. I know Jim and Tammy didn't do everything right but I think their heart was in the right place. They wanted make a place for Christian to enjoy. I don't dislike Rev. Farwell but he should stay out of it. Even different denomination Baptist & Pentecostal had differences the way they worship. It's just SAD 😥
Thank you for posting this video. Some of my best vacation memories as a teenager were from Heritage USA. Really miss that place. I remember going into some little building where they rented sports equipment, and Jim Bakker was in there with some executives and they were showing him different choices for Tammy's new album cover. They were going on and on about how good she looked in the different album covers, and Jim looked over at us and laughed. Despite everything that happened, he really had built an amazing place for Christians of all denominations to come together to vacation, relax, and worship. I'm glad that at least some parts of it still exist.

Man this brings back some incredible times from my childchood. I was there, 1985 or 86. Parents bought a lifetime membership. Only got to go one time, but WOW the memories! It's hard to explain the sense of freedom we had running around this magical place. Thanks so much for sharing this, editing is outstanding!

Me and my cousin and his two kids went down to Charlotte on Sept 22, 1989 later in the day after Hurricane Hugo had been through there. The next day Sept 23,1989 we drove down to what had been Heritage USA… It was neat to drive through and see what had brought so many people Such Happiness!! Thanks so much for making this Video!! We too, spent several years heavily involved at PTL/Heritage USA! My late husband was a youth pastor for a while, and I taught at the school, Heritage Academy. My older kids ran around the Youth Center and loved Buffalo Park as well! I want to thank you for such a positive remembrance of the experiences there....it’s a refreshing change from so much negative press! It’s nice to hear your fond memories! There are many ministries still operating in various locations throughout the property that was Heritage. Through the years following its closing, whenever I had reason to go there, I would weep/ grieving the loss of all that was good about the ministry that happened here. Thank again for your positive, fun blast into the past! I hope you get to go back and connect with Steve Martin, or others at Antioch Church, or Pastor Ron Lambright at the Upper Room Chapel. They have a Facebook page and you can see they have restored the interior and have church there. 😊

My memories are mixed - some wonderful ones, some very sad. My husband was the director of the Fort Hope ministry there and we saw many lives changed. Two of my children attended Heritage Academy. Our son attended 6th grade and our daughter, kindergarten. Her teacher was Ms. Lentz or Lutz. One of her friends was Ron Lambright's daughter.
My Dad left his wheel chair after praying with Jim.

I am 75 now and back in the 70's and 80's was caught up in the Charismatic and Word of Faith movements. The spiritual atmosphere then, including PTL , seemed to infuse these with prevailing attitudes of the time. I see megachurches in our area as a product of those times. PTL did a lot of good for so many and his heart was in it. If it was greed he would have stopped building and would have stock piled all the money and kept it for himself. He gave away more than he made and helped the disabled the sick and gave help to the needy.
He is still a great man with a huge heart for mankind and God. I find no fault in him..he only loved God and provided first class facilities for Gods people.

You have no knowledge of the tremendous amount of good, of helping so many families, of helping individuals not only financially, but in other generous ways. Even now, I am saddened at how people simply blast The Bakers without any understanding, knowledge of the very real plot to destroy not only them, but everything good that was built. Few of these type of humans have no real sense of what went on behind the scenes. Even something as simple as the doghouse, which didn't even belong to The Bakers, but belonged to the doctor next door! And bigger than all? The lack of forgiveness. As though those who did persecute, and still do! For they forget? Or maybe they don't believe that they too sin, break Laws, do dirt, etc. "For all have sinned!" You, me, and every human on earth! A penny stolen is no less of a sin as if it were a million pennies. Wrong is wrong. Let us not condemn, over and over, for the sins of others! All the while never admitting our own sins.
Wrong. Megachurch began with Roman Catholic Church and Vatican Rule thousands of years ago. PTL was far from the murderous, percecuting, evil which boiled from Catholicism and Popes, of old and of new. You speak half truths, and speak from underneath the tongue of the devil. I hope and pray you find truth, light, and Christ.
I remember Heritage very well!! My friend Rita lived/worked there in the early 80s when everything went awry for the Bakers. I remember the Upper Room Chapel and the stained glass circles bathing the inside with a warm crimson red throughout the chapel… it was very beautiful and inviting. This wassa version fond memory!! Thank you for sharing this. Btw, those are Wasp 🐝..& they will burn you up with their stings. Don’t mess with them and they won’t mess with you!!! 😂❤
My husband and I camped there a couple days in '81. Spotless! Everyone was in a good mood. No obnoxious people. We enjoyed a few activities. So relaxing!

Yes...Everyone was in a good mood...and talking about the Lord. To this day...I remember the creaminess Orange Sherbert Ice Cream!! ...at the Ice Cream Shop!! Just the BEST! A Young man Latino was just full of the Lord! He turned around on the tram...and just began telling us his testimony!! One the weekends if somebody did not come home...they called the local jail...to find the rest of his family members. And proudly...spoke about being radically save. There was gonna be a Full Gospel Busineesman's meeting that night about 100 miles away. This Latio guy invited my husband to join him.
So they went to that meeting. The speaker was Sir Lionel LaCoo..the former attorney...for the late mass murderer...Jim Jones! Sir Lionel...AS A famous attorney who never loses a case...he was radically saved and surrendered his life to Jesus Christ..one week before the Great mass killing of almost 1,000 believers following Jim Jones!! He told how he had never met Mr Jones...IN person..was handling his affairs/paper work...long distance. Once he was saved he terminated his business relationship totally. My Jones had invited him to join them...on the day...of the mass killing. Because Sir Lionel got saved one week before...God kept him safe...and he was out telling his fab testimony!! My husband even brought the cassette home for me to enjoy!

In 2004, I saw the abandoned Heritage Park before the property was redeveloped. While visiting Charlotte, I took a bike ride south into SC with no specific destination in mind. During the ride, I came upon the remains of a huge complex. Its abandoned buildings had fallen into disrepair and the expansive parking area was fissured and filled with weeds. I was the only human present--absolutely eerie. It was evident that a lot of money had been expended on that failed project. Only later did it dawn on me that it was Jim and Tammy Faye's place (or what was left of it). What a waste!
This is the best Heritage USA video documentary I have ever seen. I used to live nearby, and I visited the former park in 2007. By then, most of the park facilities were long gone. Most of the buildings and structures were removed years ago. It was sad to see the tall hotel rotting away. I can only imagine the money that was wasted on that particular project. I was in my mid-twenties during the height of the PTL Ministry. All that PTL activity is now just a memory.

I played in the water park, roller skating ring and the castle. Went to the main street shops in the grand hotel with my school in a field trip. Good memories. Thanks for putting this video together. If your ever by again, stop by the barn and studio. I'm there most days.

The music perfectly sets the stage for this odyssey into the past. The experience is like a deja vu of sorts, a reminder that we are all time travelers, hurtling through space on a rocky planet. Most of us miss the experience while going through it, but in hindsight wonder how we let it slip by in its fuller detail. It is incredible to think that one couple’s vision could produce such a complex of buildings and activities for others to enjoy. Compared to other buildings, many of these are in great shape and repair. It is heartwarming to see that they are still serving good purpose, even though some are repurposed. Isn’t memory an interesting function of human consciousness? After Jim was released from prison, and remarried, I think he made his way to Branson Missouri area, and started over with a camping and lodging facility, including studios. His shows are posted on RUclips now.
Fascinating. It's gratifying to read so many comments from good people who worked there or visited there in roughly the same time frame as you. This is a great, sentimental and nostalgia-tinged documentary.

Great video! I am amazed that there were so many structures, all of them requiring artistic/creative input from a wide variety of architects and craftspeople. The Bakers kept a lot of builders busy! After viewing, I had to Google the history of the theme park. How they found all the talent, did all the drawings and brought so many workers together is nearly incomprehensible. The plot of land has been divided, with some of the pieces sold a number of times. The hotel is still a Christian operation. There is also the dark underbelly of the original ownership under Jim and Tammy. As the old saying goes, you can't make this stuff up. Thanks!
Looking back through memories of my younger years is sometimes so tearful. It's kind of heartbreaking when you see the places we once played as kids have since long gone. This travelogue of yours is so well done. Reminds me of the look back documentary done a while back telling the story of Action-Park (New Jersey). I've been to neither place, but watching clips and hearing stories gives such a great idea of how things were, with many similarities to places I spent time at.
Life truly is great at times, but catches you off guard when you realize just how short life really is.

I was on staff at Antioch International Church, owners of The Barn and Studio, up until May 30, 2020. If I knew you were coming I would have let you inside the Barn and Studio to show everyone. You can still come and see. Open every Wednesday night at 7 pm and Sunday mornings at 10 am for church services. Come on! P.S. Our family had 3 Lifetime Memberships, so we too remember the 1985-1987 years when we went each year. Morningside Church has done a great job in restoring the Grand Hotel too.

I'll never go to Morningside again. They treated me like I was trying to steal $20 worth of stuff because I was trying to return it because the girl wouldn't get off the phone to ring us up. She actually had a security guy who looked like Howdy Doody come down and tell me it was time to go. Horrible attitudes and hateful demeanors. I regret the $20 in gas I spent to get there not to mention the embarrassment it caused me and my family.
My family had 4 memberships. We went every year as well. In 1988 I also honeymooned there
Great memories as a child going there for various functions, handmade candles, fudge and of course the Christmas lights! I actually live in the new apartments right beside the unfinished hotel.

Unless you went there no one could understand what a fabulous place PTL was for all ages. My sister and I prayed together in the upper room that god was bless her with a child. Just over 9 months latter my nephew was born. Brings tears to my eyes.

I never knew how large and active the Heritage complex was. People seem to have fond memories of vacationing and visiting there. They built a phomenial complex.

In 1979 I was 10months old. Ellie May from Beverly Hills, took me up on stage! Thank you so much! This is blast from the past! Later in mid 80's you could find me at one of the tennis courts that they made a skateboard park and the roller skating rink playing arcade games while eating tons of fudge. Thank you!

Wow…this brings back some memories. I only went to Heritage twice in my life, but I can recall going there in 1992 as an 8 year old fairly vividly. Some of my main memories were playing The Avengers arcade game in the skating rink and being selected out of the audience to participate in one of the plays by the lake. It’s surreal to see how much it has all changed.

To me the Heritage tower looks absolutely stunning. It kinda looks like a European brutalist tower block for social housing, except covered with bricks. I'm glad to hear that work finally started to preserve it.
Oh my gosh I love this place. I enjoyed so much time there with my Poppaw and he was a lifetime member until all the things happened. I talk about it so often about the campground and theWendy’s castle. The shops on either side of the brick road when you looked up, it was sky in the bistro on one end the grand piano playing in the main hall. The passion play was just everything I remember going to the waterpark in getting a bills frozen lemonade. Tammy Faye’s wedding dress being in a glass case in the hotel just all of the things the general store the trams it was absolutely wonderful. It’s sad when people let things go to their head. If only he would have let God lead him where could it have been today?

My wife and I went to Jim Bakker's new place South of Branson a few years ago. We watched his show live there. I won't judge him. I believe many people came to love Jesus because of his ministry. We are all sinners though.
My husband and I visited PTL twice with our kids and had an amazing time. We went to their marriage workshop, and Jim popped in during one of the sessions. I was shocked when things fell apart, but I held no bad feelings toward Jim and Tammy. People make mistakes, and they certainly paid for theirs. I try to catch some of Jim and Lori's shows and feel that some people are so unforgiving, saying they feel he is a con artist and will always be one. I prefer to believe he is doing what God has called him to do.

And I would watch Jim & Tammy, every day during the week, it's amazing the Lawyer that got Jim out of Prison, he thought he had been wrongly convicted. He is a famous Lawyer and he came to Jim and told he would represent him pro bono! Alan Dershowitz was the attorney that got Jim out of a 40yr sentence to only 4yrs!

My parents took our family on summer vacation at Heritage USA in 1995. The waterpark was still operating, and it was pretty cool.

Now I am wondering. Was the hotel always run by the Raddison?? When I was there in the early 90's, I thought it was all under Raddison ownership. My friend's mom went there from Ohio and they asked me to go with them from Illinois. The bumper cars and theme park were still there but no longer running. They were still doing tours in something but I do not remember if it was the tram. I just remember going on a tour. Her mom met her sister from S Carolina at the hotel. My friend and I stayed in S Carolina for the week but picked her mom up on Sat after a week long Women's conference. Jim Bakker had already gone to prison when we were there. When we picked them up we took a tour and the towers still had a crane in the center where it had been left. The waterpark was still there and a Wendy's in the rotunda above the waterpark.

The inside of Main Street looks the same. I’ve been in the grand hotel many times. It’s morning star church and their school. You can still book a hotel room there when they have conferences. The hotel rooms look exactly the same as well. They still give you a big brass key for your hotel room when you check in. Many rooms have been converted into condos, but when I stayed there a few years ago, our room was right over main street and our indoor balcony overlooked main street.

I spent a lot of my time as a kid there. I was a preachers daughter and my Dad was friends with James Robinson and we’d often go while he was there preaching. Christmas time there was unbelievably beautiful and I can remember it vividly all these years later. Tammy Faye presented me with a talking Tammy Faye doll in front of the massive Christmas tree in the Grand hotel at a Christmas party they had. Some of my fondest childhood memories. Thank you for the video. It plucked at my heart strings.
