they’re a lot of reasons of why they chose this song, it’s basically a Spring Day for coldplay and their fans. both bts and coldplay help people through their music: to cope with emotions, to understand and love themselves, to find a right way or simply trust the music with erasing bad times and memories, even for some time. coldplay don’t usually let other artists cover their songs and it’s very pleasant to understand that they truly trust bts with it. bts were able to show all the emotions coldplay had and even add a new meaning for the song.

This is why I love Coldplay. Them and BTS are my favourite bands. And I have lyrics from both tatted on me. Seen Coldplay twice in concert and would love to see them again and would LOVE to see BTS in concert someday.

They all obviously killed it, but Jin just stood out a bit more in this song That’s how it is for all their songs They all do amazing, but there is always one or two of them that shine a bit brighter in a song For example, for me, Dionysus is Jin, Louder Than Bombs is Jimin, Idol is V, On is Jungkook, Fake Love is RM, Airplane Pt. 2 is JHope, and I’m Fine is Suga These are just a few examples, but there’s nothing wrong with someone praising a member because they think they stood out a bit more in a song It’s obvious that they all kill it all the time But Jin in this song, KILLED it And just because someone says that, doesn’t mean they don’t respect or like the rest of them

They chose this song because it’s helped and comforted them, especially during these times you know, it’s a special song for them and they sang it to comfort fans as well (since it’s a favorite of theirs they also really enjoyed covering it, they had fun :) )
They used it as bgm in their 6th anniversary tweet , it's seems so close to them , I kinda had a feeling that they choose it bc it has a personal thing to them idk but I rlly enjoyed the cover , and I love the idea that coldplay allowed them to cover it and they liked the cover ! 💜💜 so happy

- Namjoon, j-hope, and yoongi's voice are so deep and low when they harmonized the cover with the vocal line. The rapline did their job good as well as the vocal line. Actually the rapline *can sing* too, they just have different kind of voices.
*Each BTS member has different voice, but they are able to matches with each other & harmonizing to the song. They're super talented kings* 💜✨
The guys are fans of Coldplay and enjoy this song as it comforts them. They've been heard listening to it as well, plus it kinda plays into their intention to comfort fans like they did through BE. I love that Coldplay let them cover it.

the fact that coldplay is really picky when someone covers their songs, now that bts covered theirs, coldplay appreciated their rendition (and also replied in korean) they are so powerful
The boys said they wanted to share a song that gave them comfort through these hard times and this was it. Through the years every time they’re asked who they’re listening to or who they want to collaborate with, they’ve very often said “Coldplay”. They appreciate their writing style and compositions and artistry. 💜

Their whole album (Be) is kind of an attempt to comfort Army, so tonally “Fix you” fits right in. Also, both Jin and Taehyung like this song and Coldplay in general a lot. I also think it suits their voices really well, with a good mix of high and low notes.

All of them has different vocal range and they all sound different and Tae have the widest range, he is barritone and still can hit high notes. And... It's every BTS member and BTS as a group makes BTS different from the other group.

They stayed true with the original instrumentation. Noticed there is no live band here. The focus is on the singing and harmonizing. The song is in many of the members personal playlist. And the original Coldplay song has entered the USA iTunes chart thanks to this cover.

taehyung has the most incredibly wide vocal range. taehyung is a baritone, but he can not only make low notes, but he can also make high notes and he does it effortlessly. Taehyung's voice can also express the emotions of a song the BEST. I love his voice so much ♡
Just my theory. BTS usually presents their music/performance through storytelling. Before Fix You, they sang Blue and Grey - a song which reflects the sorrows and pains we felt during the pandemic and Fix You, in response, offers comfort (as what also Jimin said). If we can also notice, it was followed by Life Goes On then Dynamite.

why did they chose fix you? well, no one knows for sure yet but some of the members are huge coldplay fans and it's on Jin's spotify list so we think it's one of his favorite songs. the vibe and lyrics of fix you also fit the theme of their latest album's message and they only performed songs from BE, so I guess they chose it based on this. hope this makes sense 😅

What is unique about BTS cover is that they aren't singing about one women or a romantic relationship, they are healing the world in universal terms. They just have a gift of pulling you in emotionally and connecting on an intimate level. Fix you has special meaning to me bc it came out during a difficult time in my life. I listen to songs based on my mood or how I want to feel. In all my years, there has never been one group or artist with songs for every emotion. BTS discography is so vast and versatile and their lyrics are poignant that I can play a song to go with any mood. They are not stuck in one genre or style. That's why BTS is the greatest group in the world of all time.

Actually, I know they are "diehard" coldplay fans. Theyve been playing coldplay songs and mentioned them so many different times at their channel, on their shows, lives,, at least like, all the way from 2015/2016. The band is the backup band of BTS n it is called the "GHOST BAND". This song is in another level when they cover it. It feels comforting to me in my opinion.
To answer to your question as to "why they used this song", please check out the setlist of the songs they performed for mtv. (Mtv made a whole playlist for them) and each song will make sense in the greater narative that they want to tell to their fans and to the viewers.
