    I think there is a debate as to where Whiskey/Whisky comes from? It may have actually originated in continental Europe and brought to Ireland and Scotland via the monks? Distillation is first mentioned in Ireland in 1405 and in Scotland in 1494.....

    • @MrSchizoid405
      @MrSchizoid405 3 года назад +7

      Yeah, it originated in Ireland, and also the spelling used in America indicates its Irish origin there too. Irish whiskey has the E while Scottish and British whiskey is spelled whisky without the E. Also in the 19th-century whiskey was not considered Scottish but solely Irish, it wasn't until prohibition that the Scottish whisky industry came about after the Irish one went under.

      Distallation was invented in the middle east, the Arabic cultures back then were obsessed with perfume, invented distallation to get the essential oils from flowers. Irish monks who were people of learning and knowledge saw this technique and wondered what would happen if they used beer instead of flowers and boom Whiskey in its first form was created

    Ireland in the Early Christian period (A.D. 400-1177) was made up of at least 120 chiefdoms, usually described in surviving documents as petty kingdoms, typically having about 700 warriors. One of these petty kingdoms was Dál Riata, which occupied a corner of County Antrim, the island's northeastern most part. Around A.D. 400, people from Dál Riata began to settle across the Irish Sea along the Scottish coast in County Argyll. Other Irish migrants were also establishing footholds along the coast farther south, as far as Wales and even Cornwall, but the migrants from Dál Riata were especially noteworthy because they were known to the Romans as "Scotti" and they would eventually give their Gaelic language and their name to all of what is now known as Scotland.
    Dál Riata apparently established themselves along the west coast without much opposition. By A.D. 490 the population of Scotti was large enough that the head of the little kingdom moved the family seat across from Ireland. The Scotti alternately cooperated with and fought against the Picts for the next few centuries until the two were unified into a single kingdom under Cináed (Kenneth) mac Ailp'n in A.D. 844. After that the Pictish language disappeared, along with the symbol stones and other archaeological traits that had distinguished them from the Scotti.

    As an Irish-American. Ireland is far better than Scotland, for one Ireland is an independent country Scotland is basically a province, I’ve been to many parts of Ireland and I’ve been to Edinburgh too but Ireland is by far better, Ireland vs Scotland is not even a debate tbh one just Englands little side kick and the other is a free country who’s culture is celebrated world wide every March, Irelands actors include Cillian Murphy, Barry Keoghan, Colin Farrell, Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleason… Conor McGregor is more famous than any Scot too, even singers Sinead O’Connor, U2, Niall Horan, Hozier, The Cranberries who’ve Scotland got Lewis Capaldi ? This debate like ain’t even close man even in sports Ireland were in the top 10 in the Olympics this year a country with such a small population it’s insane, Ireland is just far more iconic too it’s not even close tbh

    Whiskey originated in Ireland, not scotland along with Guinness. Iron bru didn't originate in Scotland btw. Bagpipes aren't scottish we have them in Ireland also. Tartan isn't scottish either. The loch ness monster is far less mythical and famous than the leprechaun and it was an Irishman who invented the loch ness monster. St patricks day > St Andrews day. There's no metric in which scotland is better than Ireland it's outclassed in everyway. American whiskey comes from Irish whiskey hence spelled with an E as opposed to British spelling. Unless you're talking about the country bumpkin crap. Even by cartoonish stereotypes Ireland wins.
    Ireland has more history than scotland.
    Ireland has better music and dance than scotland.
    Ireland has rich mythology, Scotland has no mythology of its own.
    Ireland is its own landmass and slightly bigger.
    Irelands scenery is more beautiful and varied.
    Ireland is 6 times richer than scotland.
    Scotland originated from Ireland.
