Modric is a Real Madrid legend but he’s not been good enough since last season champion league exit game against city. I think is now the right time to say goodbye to him. Real is too big to under performing legen base on their past records thank current form .
Modric's best role this season is coming off the bench for one of the front three if we want to get more control. NOT how we did against Atletico Madrid where we only had Joselu in attack and 5 midfielders. But we can have, just as an example, Kroos, Tchouameni, Bellingham/Valverde/Camavinga and Modric with Vini and/or Rodrygo up front alongside Joselu and/or Brahim
I think he could play the deep lying play maker as well as long as we have Jude, Brahim, and a combo of Tchou and Fede/Cama on the field as well

City lose Rodri then Kovacic and Nunes play and that makes it easier for Madrid if we did meet.

I think that he doesn't really think he has declined? He is a giant and should be respected but if he thinks he can play every game and start all those times then it is a problem. Don't know how you deal with that without offending him in some way.
Currently Modrić is on like 20 million euro a year (before tax). I don't think we can justify that kind of salary for a bench player. This kind of stuff is why Barcelona is in the financial shape it is right now. I suspect he'd see a paycut as an insult. And honestly, I LOVE Luka, but this is Real Madrid - no one's here because of the past glory. Not Cristiano, not Marcelo, not Ramos, not Bale, not Guti, not Casillas, not even Raul. It's time to say goodbye. Just as it was time to say goodbye to Marcelo.
Luka may have 1-2 years in the tank still, but not on Real level.
Lucas is right, even if there are 11 players playing the game, the win percentage with Modric starting is lower, that's evidence. Kross was our best midfielder player away at the Etihad last season. He’s good enough to start at any club today.
