Original version on the switch obviously looks better than remaster. I sometimes wish the old version was ported the new consoles because damn “Return to Arkham” looks terrible.
I have a love/hate relationship with the remasters. On one hand, environment/object/clothes textures are improved. The added rain effects is a nice touch too. One thing I continuously notice though is that many character models were heavily redesigned especially in Asylum. Take Joker for example. His hair is now more healthy/styled, his suit in a little better shape, added chain/decoration, and Joker’s face has less detail/age lines. And the lighting I guess was redone to add greater contrast instead of the murky/almost cold filter the original had. I can appreciate what the remaster tried, but when the original did so much right, it’s best to just smooth out the finer details of the original’s graphics and have that be the remaster. Plus some added features of course
Something I noticed is, this is an issue just for Asylum, Return to Arkham's Arkham City looks pretty good. Makes me wonder what it was that made Asylum so difficult...
The PS5 version (which is PS4 with backward compatibility) the game runs on Unreal Engine 4, the Switch version runs the original version that ran on Unreal Engine 3 just like Arkham City.

It's funny how people say "More hardware the better the game" then something like this comes out and blows that argument out of the water. The switch has a dark appearance to it adding to the darker tones for the game, meanwhile the PS5 looks like someone has turned up the brightness and saturation and peed on your screen.
god what were they thinking with the remaster. The shadows played a huge part in immersing the players in the atmosphere. Removing them completely was a VERY poor decision
How does the PS5-version look worse than the Switch version? This shit keeps on happening with every remaster that I see. It's so ironic, every time there's a remaster, it's more of a demaster.
I finished remastered Arkham Asylum yesterday, my first Arkham game, and even though I liked it, I noticed how the atmosphere and ambience just felt off since you enter the asylum
the thing that looks odd with the remasters is the lighting. the models and everything else is perfect, wish they would've worked a bit better on the lighting.
well as a reminder, in fact the cinema scenes on switch as well as on ps3 is pre-done CGI which you can simply call videos, yet those of the remaster is changed to realtime rendering, that's why the switch scenes look way better than the RE, doesn't mean switch got some black tech
My biggest complaint with the return to arkham asylum version was batman's mouth. The only reason I have to play that version was because the original doesn't work on my PS3 anymore apparently. I tried multiple copies.
I just bought batman Arkham trilogy on switch, grew up on these games just wanted to play them in hand held. So far on Arkham asylum and it looks pretty good man
definitely a preference thing but overall i really like how they brought back og look for switch so def gotta go with them but the thing remaster got over switch is its consistent between gameplay and cutscene with graphics
The switch is a direct port of ps3 Arkham rather than the ps5 remaster, the reason why the people in cutscenes on switch look better is that they're prerendered, and while the tech was worse back for things like reflections even when prerendering, this means that the characters and their lighting looks better than in the remaster, which has worse looking characters but better reflections on the puddles and cape and enviroment, for some reason they chose the cutscenes to be real-time/ in engine in the remaster. also looking at the gameplay for some reason they smoothed out jokers wrinkles for some reason, making him look wrong?? all in all the remaster looks better, but the characters look abysmal for some reason
PS5 Remaster: Somethings look better, somethings look worse. I hate the remastered Joker model (as well as a lot of the other character models they changed)
Honestly the Arkham games are probably the only games where I like them better on the older generation from the ps3 then the next gen. Still have them for next gen but I think the models look weird in the remasters
Every Batman related game using Unreal Engine 4 like the Arkham Collection, Gotham Knights, and SSKTJL has been a visual step back from the Unreal Engine 3 Batman games imo. I still put Arkham Knight's visuals up against a lot of today's games in terms of graphics.
People would of complained about a upres. Virtuos Games did a great job porting the games into UE4. Everything runs in real-time because of it. Vs the cutscenes which are not real-time.
@diamond_dogs Dude!? Have you seen how much work they into Arkham Asylum! It was a hell of a lot! You have no idea! It's night and day. Improved across the board. The only issue the game really has is cutscenes the models aren't all perfect. But ingame everythings better. And they did a fantastic job porting them over. They run better than the PS3/360 originals. And are you saying UE4 is bad engine? That's a new one. Maybe you should play the remasters vs talking.
@diamond_dogs What on earth are you talking about!? If they didn't know how to use UE4 then they wouldn't of even be running as well as they do and they wouldn't have been able to add new UE4 engine features. Arkham Asylum is very impressive with what new things they added engine wise. And it isn't a cash grab if they actually port the games from UE3 into UE4 and then improve the games with new engine features and also include and enhance the dlc content also. The games run better than they did on PS3 and 360 and had world streaming improvements also. The lighting is better during gameplay, weather effects, shadows and indirect shadows being added. They did quite a good job. And the art for the most part is good to me. Also assets are of a higher texture quality across the board. There are some issues. But for the most part the did a good job.
both definitely have theirs ups and downs, both look more realistic than the other at times in good ways, the stylistic lighting in the switch version is nice, but the better lights like sparks, and reflections are better than the switch, now if only there could be a mix of both. The game portion of PS5 is a plus, the cutscene portion of the Switch if a plus.

I think it’s safe to say the switch was practically built for remasters. (Or ports of older games)
I finished remastered Arkham Asylum yesterday, my first Arkham game, and even though I liked it, I noticed how the atmosphere and ambience just felt off since you enter the asylum
nice profile picture hehe :3
*_*braaap*_*
Joker: Can you smell the excitement in the air?
the thing that looks odd with the remasters is the lighting.
the models and everything else is perfect, wish they would've worked a bit better on the lighting.
A ps3 vs switch version is what I’m looking for.
Found it. Great stuff.
U can find
They basic looks the same
This is genuinelt the first time the switch came out on top over the ps5 thats insane, like how do you fuck up a remaster that badly
well as a reminder, in fact the cinema scenes on switch as well as on ps3 is pre-done CGI which you can simply call videos, yet those of the remaster is changed to realtime rendering, that's why the switch scenes look way better than the RE, doesn't mean switch got some black tech
5:56 wow. I totally forgot how good the lighting looked in the original.
And the remaster ruined it
@@TheBatman39 Some parts of the remaster look better, others do not
I do remember being blown away by how good the lighting was in the original, it still holds up.
😂
My biggest complaint with the return to arkham asylum version was batman's mouth. The only reason I have to play that version was because the original doesn't work on my PS3 anymore apparently. I tried multiple copies.
I just bought batman Arkham trilogy on switch, grew up on these games just wanted to play them in hand held. So far on Arkham asylum and it looks pretty good man
Is it just me or does the switch version of joker look worlds better?
Wow the switch version looks soo much better. Shows how remasters need to focus on improving small faults of the original not completely changing it.
I guess that’s the upside of the Switch being a little less powerful, it helps the older games keep their original look.
Oddly enough this time around, the switch works since Arkham Asylum graphics are old but gold
This is one scenario where I prefer the lesser performance of the switch…the ps5 just looks cartoonish while the switch looks faithful
definitely a preference thing but overall i really like how they brought back og look for switch so def gotta go with them but the thing remaster got over switch is its consistent between gameplay and cutscene with graphics
No me lo podía creer , pero efectivamente se ve mejor la versión de Nintendo Switch que la de PS5
I think you may have accidentally put the switch version on the right side of the screen. Editing mistake?
Honestly the Arkham games are probably the only games where I like them better on the older generation from the ps3 then the next gen. Still have them for next gen but I think the models look weird in the remasters
Some remaster is worst
Like lofus
Prove that the ps5 remaster version is not the best
Every Batman related game using Unreal Engine 4 like the Arkham Collection, Gotham Knights, and SSKTJL has been a visual step back from the Unreal Engine 3 Batman games imo. I still put Arkham Knight's visuals up against a lot of today's games in terms of graphics.
I like the switch version a bit more cs it looks more shaded and darker ps5 makes it too bright and looks kinda awkward
The character models, especially for Batman and Joker, looks so much better in the original
Okay so yeah. thank you for confirming I'm not crazy and that all my friends are wrong.
It’s crazy how much effort they went through in the remaster to essentially make it worse. All they had to do was up-res the original.
You know you f'd up real bad when the Switch beats you to a pulp in every concievable way lmao
Me who doesnt care about frames and it's about to experience it in my Switch for the first time: 🥰
I hope you enjoyed it!
I certainly like the shadows more in some areas on the switch which probably look like the xbox 360 generation of consoles
The game still runs at 30fps on the PS5?
Atleast they used the original version for switch. The remaster looks weird af
Wtf the switch looks better in some ways 😱
It's cause of the the bad remaster version, which everyone hated :-)
Because they didn't use the Return to Arkham version, this is the PS3/360 version which is leagues better.
Wait quick question is the switch version the original arkham or a reworked version of return to arkham
Original
Didn’t they redo the remaster cutscenes to match the new engine, only to make it FMV anyway?
Crazy to think this exact Batman will be mind controlled and shot in the head execution style by Harley
Is it? This is the batman that harley knocks out thrice and could have killed any time during that but didn't cause Joker
@@lightdarksoul2097 unfortunately yes it is cannon tht “suicide squad kill the justice leag” takes place in the Arkham universe ( granted there’s reason to believe it’s just a brainiac copy) but yup she gives a lame lil speech and shoots his ass point blank
In the remaster turn the brightness all the way down (or almost) and it regains some of the mood that was lost from the original
You have to give them credit for running three Arkham games on a switch. Even though Arkham knight isn’t all there it’s still nice to play them on the go
Daaaamn what the hell did they do with the lighting? How does the lighting look BETTER on the Switch? I never really played the remastered version so this is new to me. Thank god the Switch version is running from the original game. That lighting just sucks all the deep dark contrast is gone.
Btw everyone, the switch version is Batman Arkham Asylum, the PS5 game being showed here is the new remake called Return to Arkham Asylum, they are two different games, you can still play the original Asylum on Playstation 4 though the Batman Arkham Trilogy, Which looks and runs far better on PS4.
The arkham trilogy still had return to arkham for me
The remaster respects the art direction, if the stronger shadows and the original colors were present, it would be way nicer
Can't believe I'm saying this, but I like the switch version better
If I could just have the rain from the Return To Arkham remaster and nothing else then it'd be perfect.
I CANT believe im watching a graphics comparison and the Switch is the BETTER looking game
Shoudlve made the comparison actually accurate by using both arkham asylum instead of return to arkham asylum
Return to arkham is the only on on ps5
What....the fuck? I've never played or watched gameplay of the remasters and I've heard about the negatives but I didn't think it was this bad.
I like the Original quality graphics on the switch more, like they looked on the ps3. Just looks so perfect to me.
I’m so glad they brought back the originals but it’s kinda expensive since knight looks really bad but good for handheld
I feel so bad for the people who bought the new collection to have the first two games look like they did originally only to see the “Return to Arkham” text below the title.
Damn. This proves that Arkham Asylum is already perfect or better without being or getting remastered.
Why do remasters often end up looking worse? That's, like, the complete opposite point.
The remaster just smooths things out and adds unnecessary details. The Switch looks better hands down
the door is super slow on the switch version, its pretty funny
Switch verison wins for being the same as the PS3/Xbox era.
i wasnt bothered as bad by the return to arkham graphics, but the game was significantly less moody and atmospheric than the originals and batman's face made me cry
Ngl, I can’t really decide. The cutscenes on the Switch look better, but the graphics during gameplay are very smooth.
Switch version with original 2009 graphics is 1000 ways better than PS5 version.
Conseguiram contornar bem as dificuldades gráficas do Switch com os efeitos, esse sim é um porte decente e de qualidade diferente dos games de Mortal Kombat XD
THIS is the main reason why I want the switch version, I always preferred the look of the originals, why can't they just release this port on PS5/Xbox Series at 4k 60fps?
Hay cosas que sí se ven mejor en el remaster y otras quedaron mal.
Que extraño que en la versión remaster quitaron las hojas en movimiento cuando pasa el batimovil a velocidad.
I wasnt thinking of getting the game since I have it on the Xbox but I rather have this one thats looks more to the original rather than the remastered one..
looks better on switch, hard shadows benefit this game a lot, it does look like it was designed with that in mind, you can clearly see that in 2:02, 2:20, 2:42 , 5:56; also a lot of deatil is absent in PS5 like jokers strands of hair, shirt details, flower stains; in the other hand PS5 textures are a step up in terms of quality
Why did you swap around ps4 and switch graphics
The in game graphics look better on ps5 but the cutsceens are way better on switch because they actually put work on shading in scenes back then
