  • Looking for a good Telecaster neck? Check out Warmoth! They make some of the best necks available and they're very reasonable in price too. In this video, we'll discuss some of the best Warmoth Telecaster neck choices you can buy and give you some tips on how to choose the right one for you.
    If you're looking for a custom guitar neck with inlays, Warmoth is the place to go! They have a wide selection of Telecaster necks that are sure to fit your needs. Be sure to check out this video to find the perfect neck for your guitar!
    Today, there are many companies making compatible guitar necks, and some could be argued as 'better' than the Fender originals. One company, Warmoth has been making Fender licensed necks for a very long time and their level of expertise today exceeds that maybe even of Fender Musical Instruments! Of course, that IS subjective.
    In this video I present a replacement Fender Telecaster neck made by Warmoth with many features that original Fender necks simply don't have. I show many customized features, the wood, custom sized frets, compound radius of the electric guitar neck, an 'Earvana' compensated nut and mention its advantages, and many other aspects including the Telecaster heel design.
    Overall, in this video see a warmoth Fender Licensed electric guitar Telecaster neck that includes many custom features. When you fit this Warmoth neck (it just bolts on!) you will undoubtedly be using one of the finest guitar necks available today.
    I have spent considerable time creating this video and note that it's not sponsored in any way. The video is a reflection of my experience to date of specifying, ordering and receiving a custom Warmoth neck licensed by Fender.

      Indiana wants me - lord I can't go back there :) Trust you're OK John. I just had to throw that in because I know little about the place sadly. I did make over the years a couple of telecasters (actually three but I sold one) and they came out really well. This one is likely to be the best result though of them all and I have spent time on thinking about this one. Getting the parts as I needed them is pretty hard currently, but hopefully it will work out. Other telecasters are: ruclips.net/video/pVC0GejXkwU/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/ZgE1yzYft-k/видео.html the blue one has a very refined sound really unlike a telecaster - played here: ruclips.net/video/q9J6A9uSDGo/видео.html and hope you like it all. By 8:06 I had to return to say Warmoth to me are better than any major Guitar maker.Period.I have several of their creations and every one I bought is because of you Tony.What I saw you make over the years inspired me.And now I have several OutStanding over the top Guitars and Bass's that rival the very top creators of beutique instruments costing house money !Nothing against them at all ,and not sour grapes either.But when I placed the newest Stratocaster neck in the Warmoth Body It was press fit and all but vacume sealed on seating ! No truss rod adjustment needed at all.Perfect.

      You know, HG it's exactly why I made those videos of those guitar builds. I too have bought many 'brand' guitars and I really like them too, but when I sit back, look at the Warmoth ones I completed (I still have nearly all of them) I am still surprised at how good they are - and certainly up there with the 'branded' guitars. The Warmoth neck pocket fit is great and I too have not seen a bad one. A long time ago some of the fret ends were not perfect, but that has been rectified many years ago and they are basically playable as supplied. Thanks for posting your opinion on the Warmoth stuff too because every real post helps many other guys to make informed decisions - which somehow helps us all.

    I bought a Warmoth roasted maple neck last year. Compound radius with ss frets. Outside of my very expensive PRS signature guitar. Its the nicest playing neck I've ever owned. I bought a one piece mahogany tele body from them a couple of years back. It's got an hsh configuration and once everything was finished it sounds amazing! It cost a couple of thousand pounds like you said but nothing else comes close. 🙂

      @tonymckenziecom  Год назад +1

      Yes building in this way does often cost more to do but for me that time (and having the skills) would be important. I have finished a couple of guitars and getting it right - well I could not compete with guys like Warmoth... so I don't! :) Finding the 'right' parts for you is the secret to it all IMO and its harder than many might think. Just slap on a neck, fit any old pickups and away you go - NOT! In fact, before I order anything I build the guitar with specific components and then I know what the result will be near enough. Sometimes I'll even use parts that I have used before (spec wise) but that's not always the case. Good to know yours came out great - and ultimately that is all that matters. Thanks for watching.

      @@MichaelSkillingI have an ‘84 Stratocaster Elite that is made from Walnut and it is shockingly heavy. It has to be one of the heaviest Strats ever made by Fender ( it’s about 11.25 lbs), roughly 5 kgs. It’s a back breaker to play standing up for more than 60 minutes at a time. So be aware, a solid walnut guitar requires a very good strap and/or a very strong back.

  • @ptrgreeny
    @ptrgreeny Год назад +3

    I swear by Warmoth. Necks, parts, pickguards, bodies. Anyone doing their first build should use them. You'll get high quality parts at a good price.
    Musikraft is another good aftermarket licensed neck manufacturer. I like them because I can order something like a Tele or Strat neck in a 2pc w/ no skunk-stripe or truss rod plug in any combo of neck/fretboard material and they tend to have the highest number of options out there. If you're a player who likes necks with a profile, radius and fret size combination that isn't common...they probably do it. I've never had to compromise what I want in specs and appearance with them.
    I stumbled across them years ago when I wanted a 2pc flame maple neck, hard V, 12" radius and slightly wider nut.

    Another great video, Tony. See, I never expected to get a Tele, but it became my main practice guitar. Why? When I went to stores and tried all sorts of guitars, it proved the most comfy + simplest for a beginner. I can palm mute with great ease. There is good string spacing, not too narrow. Mine is a Player Plus with 12" neck, rolled edges, wonderful feel. Do the stacked humbuckers have enough output? No, but it is a tremendous learning tool. I would love a Jem in the future and on paper a WOlfgang Special would be a better fit for me than a Tele but I have not been able to try one.

    • @tonymckenziecom
      @tonymckenziecom  Год назад +1

      A JEM can tear your head off :) I have a 7VWH original Japanese and that has high output pickups. Telecasters can be made to do what you want in one from my experience. The comfort IS important and if you have the cut aways (arm and belly) those help greatly. But the pickups are key. I have used blade type, strat neck standard and humbucker, blade bridge and standard, noiseless (as added to the other parts of this guitar I recently completed) and other stuff. I play rock so I'm biased towards heavier pickups but even the standard tele ones have a place... check this tele I made some years back: ruclips.net/video/ZgE1yzYft-k/видео.html that is using a blade type of pickup setup. Those are Dimarzio Pro Track and Fast Track pickups... Thanks for watching.

    My luthier built custom Strat has a similar neck made by Musikraft, and i can't remember the exact price, but it was not cheap.
    This was due to my requirement for a thin profile wide radius to suit my small hands and short fingers.
    Standard Fender necks even 9.5 radius are like baseball bats to me, i know that they are now making 12" radius necks but they
    are still too thick to play comfortably.
    Your new Telecaster will have a great start, the most important part of any guitar is a neck that you are comfortable with.
    We will have to wait and see what other choices you have made for the rest of the build.

      Yes, they can be expensive. This one with a 16 to 10 radius seems (and feels) good so we shall see, it's the first compound radius neck I bought from Warmoth. The star of the show is actually the body :) and while I have made 'similar' coloring (or not) this body has a number of things that should be expected especially at the price, but in reality, we rarely see. I really want the body to get here but its still in production as I write. I have the pickups, a couple of bridges (which is also interesting), some pickups (that might change) but certainly locking tuners Fender type. Well, we shall see how it turns out. :) Thanks for watching.

      The body will be here in it's own good time, this is the problem with ordering parts from around the world, there is always one that takes ages to arrive.

      @@tonymckenziecom Interesting! Thanks! Have you tried either the SRV or 59 profiles? I can’t quite get a feel for how they taper between 1st and 12th fret. I generally like bigger/chunky necks. I have Strat with a fatback, but feel necks with taper always seem to vibrate better somehow. Any thoughts?

    BTH That fret job is not 800$ level of quality. That fretslots left unfilled with that visible croocked fret wire would drive my OCD to absolute craziness. Great vid as always, Tony.

      Ha I get that. I don't generally look so close and ultimately if I find something that has a problem with the playing I'll look much closer. Warmoth always say to look at the frets etc... All I can say is that they do better ones than me :) Mine are like a 100 year old railway track :) - I know it was expensive for sure and with the £ taking a dive it was 12% even more expensive :( - it makes me think if these governments generally have a clue. @@tonymckenziecom I like more modern approach - cnc cut fret slots but without cutting the fretboard edge - clean and flush look. My Ibanez Prestige necks (cost about 500 euros) have MUCH better fret job imho, but in Warmoth You have customization.

    If there is one product that really needs to be able to physically handle in order to buy it's a guitar! Many products you can satisfactorily buy online with a picture and a description, but guitars aren't one of them. Sad to see George's leave brick and mortar.

      Well you can return the part, so for me its not too bad. Yes George's - that really is sad and lord knows how many guitarists visited there when in Orlando... of course the internets there but that so forgettable compared to visiting the place. I always went when in Orlando. Thanks for watching.

      You're right of course but to varying levels and some (of the much newer Warmoth necks) are very good as is - of course not perfect. My gripe was always the fret ends really and in the older times of Warmoth those ends were not always very good. Better now. Thanks for watching.

      @@tonymckenziecom IDK, if you have to level the frrets it really doesn't matter how unlevel they are. I don't know how they can make a $700 neck be much different than a $50 Chinese neck. Same maple or mahogany wood. Same nickel silver or stainless steel frets. Same process for cutting the neck, same process of installing the frets. Same finish. Before CNC machines it was much harder to make a neck but now everyone uses them.
      I've bought $50 Chinese necks and leveled the frets and they're great! It's going to be hard for Warmoth and other premium neck manufacturers to differentiate their product. Maybe Plekking them would be a good way?

      Warmoth is 30-40% more expensive than the rest. As a resale point it will never equal a branded Fender neck.

      When you go out there Tommy these days it's about the going rate... especially if you build it online type of thing. I know there are cheaper off the shelf so to speak but it's finding one with the exact specs. That might not matter to many guys of course, but I wanted to create something a bit different (ha although my couple of Telecasters all seem similar). So why the 'one piece? Would you really tell the difference? Some guys might probably but highly likely not me with my trashed ears. I agree they are expensive but I have looked around for an equivalent that is cheaper but makes the grade on quality generally (clearly they can make mistakes) and from here its hard to find the same stuff. Have you ever bought Warmoth stuff? I know you have 'been around' with guitars and your opinion is based on good knowledge. Hope you're doing OK there Tommy and thanks...

      Well I did look at MusiKraft but by the time you get to the end of the ordering part the price is way up there... and in some respects there are so many 'options' it could be easy for someone with less experience to get it wrong at some stage. I don't doubt they make good necks etc. but maybe better with the ones I know, and I never had any real issues with Warmoth. Being far away for any of those companies is a drag though.
