    Unpopular opinion here-

      I think the elders react video made the best pointed difference. The Guitar and drums is more modern than led zeppelin and the lead singer has a slightly different tone to his voice, especially on long notes. I'm a big fan of both and i think Gretta is gonna create some great music!

    Personally as a Led Zeppelin fan, I think this band is amazing. They do in a way sound similar but you can tell they are different. I’ve actually just booked tickets to see them in the UK in November. How many years has music existed now? Some bands and voices are going to sound alike. If you seriously don’t like a band because they sound similar to another band then you’re not a very open music critique. I recently watched an interview recently with Plant and even he admits this band is brilliant..

    • @Noneforall.
      @Noneforall. 6 лет назад +4

      Well that's the thing about music, You can like and dislike for whatever reason you like... These guys are actually the most open music critics I have seen on RUclips. What they're saying is that rock, unlike hip hop is not evolving and experimenting with sound, yes you can look into it more and find some great bands, but it's the general vibe of the genre. If you listen to a rock radio station, 90% of what's played is before 2010.

      @@Noneforall. hiphop isn't evolving either they just don't know shit about the scene because they only recently got into it. The only good new rappers are also emulating old school rap, or at bare minimum properly mixing old school and new school rap together.

      Robert Plant 100% agrees with the shit this band gets. I've seen the interview and he is almost winking at the audience whilst admitting theyre full of shit himself. Greta Van Fleet have done absolutely nothing except imitate and emulate everything they can about Led Zep with far less talent. They have no concept of original sound/style and the worst part is they won't even admit they are influenced by Led Zep and even go as far to say as Aerosmith is their main influence. Fuck these kids. The shit they get is warranted and the only fans they are are young impressionable girls who appreciate their look and pretend they like the music.

    • @SgtJuls
      @SgtJuls 5 лет назад +1

      jaburkie damn, that’s a strong opinion... hope you still feel so strongly about it but in all honesty these guys are some of the most talented artists of today... they’re always in sync and they have been influenced by the best in blues... actually Robert plant has cleared up the comment and does think he hates them but not because of them being a copy but rather because he knows they’re just so good and he just appreciated their talent THAT much... anyways, guitar, bass, vocal technique just flawless... real music... that’s just my opinion tho

    I think the only reason people think they sound like Led Zeppelin is because we don't have a Led Zeppelin anymore. And we haven't had Led Zeppelin for a long time. Now these guys are here and they kind of sound like Led Zeppelin and most just assume that they do. I mean here's a little stinger though... at least they're original. Zeppelin's entire discography has been ripped out from other people's work. So there's that.

    I said it before and I'll say it again:
    _See this is why we can't have nice things_ rock fanatics, yeah yeah Led Zep, yeah Rush vocals or Sabbath guitar riffs, Bonham drums and all. I think we all gotta thank heavens for a ROCK BAND in this era, made by kids from THIS era and generation, actually bringing something NEW to the table, as ironic as it sounds. The paradox of the new rock, taking inspiration from old classic ultimate rock bands, adapting them to the style AND creating something new or that has been gone ages ago: Arena rock!
    If we keep complaining all of this will get lost and we'll be stuck once more into listening those genres that are so popular, without actual guitar riffs and rocker screaming. If we support them as young boys now they may just grow into their own -truly own- style and bring back rock and they will INSPIRE other bands and kids. Don't say "they sound like LZ" say "hey you like GVF? I recommend that you listen to these 70s bands" and the circle will be complete ♡

    This was a very well said argument, however, I respectfully disagree. The more you listen to them, the more unique sounding they become. I was initially drawn to them because of the Led Zepplin parallel but they are firmly rooted in my heart.

    i love that you guys are always really honest! you dont have to like every single song created by everyone on earth like lots of people seem to expect. When you guys said they'd be offended when asked about sounding like led zeppelin, they actually dont! They know people think they sound just like led and they're fine with it. they openly admit to it too and theyre happy to be put on the same stage as them! i honestly dont think people should criticize them as much as people are because they literally don't even have a full album yet. they've released a single 7 or 8 track EP

    • @Heartful
      @Heartful 6 лет назад +3

      People criticize them because of the buzz they've gotten and how they've been billed as a new thing, this is pure old, nothing new about it at all.
      At least The Hives had more music out and didn't just sound like ONE band. Just like they say at 7.20; It can be passed off as parody, which is very conflicting with being "the new thing".

    I seriously doubt my post will be read or considered.
    Ok yes,they have a Zeppelin vibe..but if you listen to other their other songs Black smoke Rising,On the Edge if Darkness or fee of there other songs you'll hear Geddy Lee from Rush ..little janice Joplin influence as well as Heart. I'm an old time Rocker I suppose...been playing and producing music for some of the big name bands from the 80's 90' up to current.
    Give them another listen put aside the Zeppelin sound and listen to the music. These guys have serious potential .

    The point is that if you watch interviews of them, they have a musical background with some really classic stuff, many blues singers, jazz, R&B, and that was the same environment which classic rock grown up (Led included), as if you listen to Greta EPs you can hear many others classic artists, like Janis Joplin, Ozzy, even Dio.
    I'm a Led fan, and I really enjoy what these boys are doing, sure Josh really sound like early Robert, but which singer didn't wanna be compare with Robert Plant anyways?
    If you wanna have a band of classic rock, the comparation with Led is inevitable as the singer sound just like the Led's one and classic rock is so raw, but they are new, soon I assure you they gonna soud just like Greta Van Fleet, which is the way they surely wanna be known, not as a Led Zeppelin B-sides.

    Greta Van Fleet are:
    Josh Kiszka - Lead singer
    Jake Kiszka - Lead & Rhythm guitars and some backing vocals (AND is Josh's identical twin brother!)
    Sam Kiszka - Bass guitar (Josh & Jake's younger brother)
    Danny Wagner - Drums (high school friend of the 3 brothers and is the same age as Sam)
    They are from Frakenmuth, Michigan.And they were raised on old blues rock same as Led Zeppelin. And that is Josh's natural singing voice.

    A rocker who doesn't like Led Zeppelin - whatever next? And it's Greta not Greeta.
    It's no good people saying they don't sound like Led Zeppelin because they certainly do. My immediate reaction to them was in thinking that I was listening to a track that did not make it on to Led Zeppelin III. Many others have also made the Led Zep connection. Those who don't like Led Zep probably wont like Greeta Varn Fleese either.
    I'm inclined to think if a person says they are a rocker and they confess to not liking Led Zeppelin then I begin to suspect their credability. Part of Led Zeppelin's lasting appeal is that they aren't immediately likeable, in the majority of their work. It's too deep and needs to be got in to. But once it opens up...It's there forever.
    This ageing rocker loves Led Zeppelin. One of the best outfits of all time. John Bonham was a great drummer. It will always be a sad loss.
    I have noticed a similar style to John Bonham with Danny Wagner, and that is no small thing. That is just the drummer. The bass guitarist, Sam Kiszka, like John Paul Jones, also plays a keyboard. Oh Momma!! The type of lyrics used are the sort of lyrics Led Zeppelin would use. Josh Kiszka has a strong voice and can be loud but at times he shouts the lyrics rather than sings them. He does come across at times like Robert Plant, but maybe not quite as good. Jake Kiszka is a very good guitarist but is he really as good as Jimmy Page? He has a bit to go yet I think.
    I like this single which opens with the first note of A Hard Day's' Night. So they are taking on the Beatles as well now. They have also taken on Fairport Convention with Meet On The Ledge, it's among the 8 tracks that make up the From The Fires' EP. It's a 32 minute album really and is a very good buy. They also remind me of Creedence Clearwater Revival and Free. They do not just sound like Led Zeppelin. The influence is quite broad.
    They have their critics but they have been taking on the music world by storm and have been winning. They seem to know what they are doing. They will be around for a while. The brother connection may help to hold the band together. They have grown musically together and may well last. I certainly hope so. I'm looking forward to this album that's coming out.
    Greta Van Fleet. I like the name too.

  • @dylancole1910

    I'm a fan of both Zepplin AND this band and I can say with certainty that I can tell the difference. He pitches his voice way higher than Plant, his tone is a bit different too. The only thing that makes him sound like Plant is the growl thing he likes to do. Other than that he just sounds like many other 70s artists that like to use that high pitched voice, it's simply just a classic rock thing. I don't get why that makes people hate them. They are reviving that which we all live in classic rock, and he's damn good at it. It's not easy, but he seems to have absolutely no trouble getting there which is impressive.

    Greta Van Fleet is from Frankinmuth Michigan which is only a few hour drive from where I am (Michigan). The band consists of three brothers,two of which are twins and the drummer is there friend. Vocals(Josh) lead guitarist(Jake)base player(Sam)Drummer(Danny). And yes the band does sound a lot like Led Zeppelin,but it’s not Josh’s fault that’s just his natural voice and he doesn’t have to push to get that Led Zeppelin sound and he doesn’t even try it’s just the way he sings. I can most likely guarantee that his voice will change over his career because he’s only 22 years old he hasn’t really found his voice yet.

    Bands don't need new voices, Rock has to be reborn with the good old sound. Led zeppelin is gone and it's gone for good... Greta Van Fleet is here and they are young, talented, good looking and more open than the anti-feministic and anti-pride douchebags trying to stand for Rock music. That's why they are succesful, they play GOOD MUSIC and that's it.

    I’d say they sound like a zeppelin cover band, which on its surface isn’t a great compliment. But the fact is these guys are writing good song, even with a heavy Zep influence and they’re extremely young. Teenagers and guy barely old enough to drink in the US. Their sound will meld into something all their own as they progress.
    They became popular much earlier than most bands do since they hadn’t even released their first full album yet(and still haven’t). I think it’s a great sign of things to come for this band, and maybe they need an album or two to search out their own sound.

I think they jam well, sound great, and are fun to listen to. You need to watch an interview with the band to understand their sound. And why they have the sound they do. Also watch a live concert of theirs. In concert they have long hand that rock in their songs.

    Finally! A breakthrough band that sounds nothing like grunge or metal or sugar pop. No skinny jeans. No tough guy tattoos. No whiny little bitch male commanding the microphone. By the way... this is not by any stretch a tribute band. They are paying tribute to an era in rock and roll that is on life support. These MUSICIANS create their own notes and lyrics. Similar to Led Zeppelin... sure. I'll tell you this though... it sure beats the ever-loving shit out of the angry, weak, destructive and watered down creativity of the last twenty-five years that is being spoonfed to the masses.

    They're starting to find their own sound. I agree, you hear heavy Zeppelin inspirations in their earlier work. Even if you have a problem with them sounding like Zeppelin, it's still more Zeppelin....which I don't think anyone has a problem with lol

    Three brothers - the vocalist, the guitar player and the bassist are brothers (the vocalist and guitar player are twins). Their mom and dad raised them on all of the same influences that Led Zeppelin had - plus Led Zeppelin and others. Sure, some of their songs sound like LZ, but they also have their own style. Listen to their whole catalogue. New full LP coming. I'd rather they sound like LZ than being like the others bands that all sound alike.

    Edit: these dudes at ages 19-21 have sold out EVERY show across the globe since they released the initial four song ep. What yall are witnessing is something beyond led zep. Beside the fact that zep has over 20 songs that were covers or "heavily influenced" by other songs so where is zeps originality?

    Firstly Josh sang that way before he even knew who Led Zeppelin were, you can’t copy someone you don’t know! I hear a bit of Led Zeppelin in their style and music but I hear so many other influences too, more so than Led Zeppelin which people with a lack of rock music knowledge seem to grab on to because how mainstream Led Zeppelin are, it’s all they can hear and relate to, I suggest people expand and broaden their knowledge of rock music from the 60’s and 70’s have a listen to a British band like Nazareth especially a song called whiskey drinkin woman, listen to Janis Joplin, pink floyd, bit of rush, grace slick from Jefferson airplane, ozzy osbourne, hints of Dio, the who, just to name a few! I guess metal heads wouldn’t get it, with all metal sounding completely unique across the board, not samey at all, every metal singer has their own unique sounding voice and sound!

    People complaining about them sounding just like zepplin. Literally listen to any of there other songs aside from when the curtain falls and highway tune, and they are a nice 70's band not just led zepplin. Funny though that there most popular songs are led zepplin sound a likes but everyone's complaining. Have we not heard every other song on the radio that sounds like the last. These guys are fucking heaven to my ears compared to all the other shit coming out.

    No. They're not being Zeppelin that they are their own band. Please understand that there was an era of rock and when I was born in the 70's had a certain progression and style that a lot of bands were doing and utilizing bluesy riffs in rock song like Janis Joplin, Zeppelin, Heart, Mississippi and CCR. But in vocal range of Plant, Joplin, Ann Wilson, Ronnie J Dio and Geddy Lee but it is something that we do need right now especially in rock music of the now, and that is a true power singer. Nobody currently can not sing like this kid, unless if you're severely constipated and even to try. These kids are great and yes, Robert Plant did approve them as a fan of them only to claim in his exact words..., " They are Led Zeppelin I (one)"

  • @gganon5910
    @gganon5910 6 лет назад +1

    I'm a huge fan of you guys. The more you listen to Greta the less they sound like led zeppelin... his voice sounds like Plant, but he can't control that. Plant even shouted them out and said that they were pioneers of the youth. In my opinion, they have their own sound and it is continuing to grow. They are not a LedZ tribute band. LedZ is more than 4 decades old, let the new kids have some fun without bashing them for sounding like someone else.

    It is a disgruntled, constipated version of Robert Plant's vocals, in my opinion of course. GVF is turning into a Led Zeppelin tribute band.
    "Still, Plant believes there ought to be some limitations on revisiting the past.
    “Yeah, music is everywhere; kids have got it down. The only thing that is a little dull, really, is the number of tribute bands we have in England, where it’s old guys playing the Eagles until the very last breath.”"
    sharpmagazine.com/2017/12/04/robert-plant-on-stylistic-exploration-trump-and-all-those-dull-tribute-bands/
    I like what you said, it sums it up perfectly: "I like Led Zeppelin, I don't need another Led Zeppelin"
    Because of that comment, I just subscribed to your channel. Brilliantly said. Thank you!

    Led= Light emitting Diode. Zeppelin=old world technology. In the band's name is the secret. They revamped the music from old to new. Like taking transistor radios and developing them to solid-state. Copying, with their own new translation. There is nothing new under the sun.

    I wouldn't say it is just Led Zeppelin. For one he is american so the voicing is different from Plant in some ways. Also Plant is higher and softer a lot of the time. Also they remind me of Aerosmith in a lot of their instrumentality, particularly in the rythym. Also the drums are nothing compared to Bonham.

    You’re right. This is pure nostalgia. They are decent. Not great. People want those type of bands back, but it’s not up to par. This song is so Zeppelin it’s impossible to deny. Whether that’s good or bad is another story. Parody is the right word. These guys have to find their own sound

    Most of the time, new artists that are similar to classic artists are being compared and conclude that they are imitators which I believe is unfair. Unless we know their backstories then we can assume such an idea. Sometimes it is just a coincidence that the new artists' styles are in the same musical categories or sounds or voices or genres as the classic musicians being compared to.

    Please reserve judgement until listening to Change is Gonna come. It’s their cover of a Sam Cooke song which really shows off their love for 50’s 60’s and 70’s music. Their singer pulls some crazy Janis Joplin out of his lungs that will give you chills.
    It’s possible you guys are kids of 80’s music more than their forefathers.
    GvF are a young band who grew up listening to the same music as Zeppelin. In fact, Zeppelin was considered blues rip off artists in the beginning. They were bashed for sounding like cream, yardbirds, and a host of others.
    It took them two albums to begin to refine their sound....

    No one is the new anyone! Greta Van Fleet are Greta Van Fleet. I grew up with Led Zep, Stones, The Who, all the great bands and musicians of that era. I love I have found a stand alone band who are GVF and do what they do - I have seen so many comparisons. Zep had blues influences, Stones had blues influences with a bit of chuck berry - Music lovers listen to music - musicians listen to music all the time - and they don't borrow or steal - they have some things that infiltrate their soul and it has an influence. I cannot wait for the day when people just shut up about this relatively new band being anything other than Greta Van Fleet - because that is way good enough for me.
