Now that's a sweet Jeep! My lifters will be here today from Amazon, I also took your advice and ordered the valve stem seals. I have a 2005 Ram 1500 4.7l and the last owner didn't take very good care of it, so I'll be watching more of your videos. Thanks again!
Hi Martin, I have a question to ask you. I'm having problem with my '05 4.7l Ram, a few months ago I was in town with my family and the a/c started blowing hot air so I stopped and put a can of freon in the system. It worked great for a while and even though it's winter, I still use the a/c mixed with the heater to control the climate. However, every time I come to a complete stop the windows fog up and it feels like we're in a sauna until I shut the a/c off or start driving again. Is that because I didn't do an evac and recharge, or is it something more serious?
I just wanted to say thank you. Your videos helped me with the rebuild of my motor. I misaligned a tooth on the cam and only found out after reassembly. Re-watching this reminded me that I could use a nylon wedge tool like you did. So I didn't have to remove the front cover again to fix my misaligned cam gear.
Martin.. i gotta say..your videos are excellent for educational purposes. Im a Chevy guy through and through. My son againsy my better wishes bought a used dodge🤬 truck with 3.7. It had a "miss" per previous owner. Well. It showed its ugly head as 2 detached rocker arms. Your videos REALLY HELPED. Thank you for your time..knowledge .and busted knuckles
Thank you, I appreciate that, glad you found it helpful. You want to use 1/2 quart Marvel Mystery Oil on every oil change to help keep the oil passages cleaned out.
Scored a set of 08 Durango cams and intake today at pick n pull with presidents day 40% off. Enjoying ALL your videos. Current project is an 01 GC with a totaled 4.7.. Picked up a (Jasper?) 4.7 that needs freshened ( rebuild date 2014) cyl 1 rings leaking cyl 7 intake valve leaking. Apart it comes. Maybe I'll document it.
Oh man that’s a much easier process than I thought it would be, I thought you would have to remove the whole front cover to set timing, but that’s genius! Thanks again for yesterday Martin!
This guy is inspiring. When I did my 2001 I took his advice and I freshened up my whole top end comp cam beehive valve springs. But I remove the cam first. I zip tied the camp. The timing chain and I zip tied the timing chain around the cam sprocket so I never had to take the timing chain off. Then I popped the cam off. Then I did my valve springs and the upgraded '08 rockers
Thank you sir. You and ( D&E Garage ) Have convinced me the 4.7 is a great little engine to work on. Previously I would of discarded it as a waste of my time, but now I'm interested in doing a cam swap with new lash adjusters. Possibly headers as well... I still have emissions due on the 05 Dakota, so I may have to just do with new/stock manifolds and gaskets, I'm un-sure about aftermarket headers that will bolt up to the existing downpipes/catalytic convers.
Your jeep sounds a runs awesome. I've been watching your videos since I have recently lost a lifter(s) in my 03 Dakota. Never an engine problem in 19 years til now. I ran Marven Mystery oil to clean it up, and bang, withing 700 miles I now have to dig into it. I don't know which way to go from here as it's my only vehicle.
I've been running the Marvel's Mystery oil for quite some time, but when I do it, I only add half a quart per oil change. Exactly, what happened to the engine?
That thing is damn impressive! I've been awaiting this video for quite some time, and it is so damn satisfying to see this all buttoned up. Keep it up, and that is a damn amazing build. I cant imagine how good you felt when you heard it turn over for the first time.
I absolutely love the 4.7 content. I really wish we could get Forged internals for the 4.7 and aggressive cams and stiff valve springs. Allong with some good ported heads and intake manifold with long runners. I strongly believe the 4.7 could be an awesome engine. Small displacement and overhead cams they could be awesome revving engines could be awesome for boost. But no love because of the hemi and it also being mopar 😔
Airram sells Scat Rods and Ross pistons for the 4.7 but $$$ I’m actually building a supercharged 4.7 with a 03 mustang cobra supercharger M112 to be exact
What a monster of a jeep you have there. Very fast. Yes i’ve purchased from Amazon through your link for the long brush to clean-out a manifold. I shall do again if i’m missing a neat tool.
please never stop making videos on your wj!!!! ive watched a lot thank you for all the videos! sometimes you don't say how many ft pds or inch to retorque to when putting back together so it makes it a little difficult.. how do you know or figure out how many pounds it gets torqued back to?? thanks alot
Sucker sounds bad to the bone. You create some awesome videos. Really appreciate it. Love the excitement at the end when she fires up. Just got a 2002 WJ with the 4.7l with 80045 miles on it. Florida car with zero rust. I'm thinking these cams would be great along with the fuel injectors.
Hey Martin! Awesome work! Your like one of the only guys out there willing to take on the 4.7L and live to tell about it 👍. I was just wondering thou, did you or do you have to put a tune in to take advantage of those cams if so which brand did you use.
Just found your channel and really enjoy your videos. I just bought my second 2004 GC. I had a 4.0L Limited Quadra Drive that got wrecked. I the bought another rust free 2004 4.7L Limited Quadra Trac 2.
Thank you, sorry to hear the one got wrecked. Glad you got yourself another one. I've really been enjoying this 4.7 and and doing all these mods and bring it to you guys.
I also have a 4x4 Dakota with the 4.7 and have been performing all mods Martin has vids for, at least most. My Dakota is an 07 quad cab. What mod has worked best for you so far?
@@r.blanco7520 they are all pretty good! I still need to do the 08 intake and cams to mine, but the injectors helped alot for me, from 4 to 12 nozzle really improves alot
@@CovertoCoverwithJeremyPeiers do you plan on having the 75mm throttle body? If you do we can talk Martin into making a set of adapter plates. I have the injectors, 08cams, 08 intake, electric fan, 3.92 differential ratio, etc, but I can tell by far the best mod is the throttle body. I have a stock 68 mm throttle body bore to 70 mm and it makes a big difference. We could even try to find more people to include into making a big batch of adapters. What do you think?
My camshaft doesn’t quite spin as freely as yours. I can spin it by hand without rockers installed obviously but it worries me it’s not as free as yours. We’ll see what happens I guess hopefully it finds its new home and gets comfortable in there thanks again for your videos
I'm getting ready to install another engine into my Dakota having a similar problem and finding that the cam bearings that were on that engine are the ones that I need to install but I also went ahead and polish them using a scotch bright type of Dremel pad and then a polishing wheel on a dremel and that helped a lot.
@@martinbuilt …my pleasure! …checking out your other videos too, as I’m working on broken valve on similar engine …if we lived on same continent I would ask if you produced sold any of your tools. They look really practical ⚙️🔩🔧👌✨😊
Almost done changing out valve seals, springs, lash adjusters on my 168k 2003 Durango. Again thanks for the vid. Quick ? I did not use (or know to use) the little plastic valve stem sleeve that comes with the Felpro valve seals...it is supposed to protect the new seal from potential damage by the keeper grooves. In your vid, you do not use it either. I would assume you have had no issues? I dipped the seals in fresh oil before slipping onto the valve. My valves are factory original and would not appear to have any burrs... Thanks Martin! Keith
Yeah you did well by dipping them in oil. The only reason I didn't use one was because I didn't get one with valve stem seals. But if a person's careful you should have no issues.
@@martinbuilt Thanks brother! Do you ever make it to the cars and coffee Sat mornings on Eastern? I have a 383 ci Vette I was thinking about taking up there.
Awesome videos martin, your attention to detail is amazing. Thanks. Now that its been a few years on jeep and dakota 4.7. What would you say is top 5 best increase of hp, highway speed. Have 02 dakota with less than 100k and family trips to mountains, im downshifting to 2nd gear and screaming at 4,500 rmps. Has to be better way. Have new upgraded injectors and new heads but still not there. Sounds like intake and throttle body? Rather not do cams and exhaust if can stay away. Thanks for advice
Thank you, I really appreciate that. If you still have the 45RFE TCM I would swap it out for a newer one to get that extra overdrive gear. The intake and throttle body was a huge improvement for me, but some of that had to be because of the Cam and exhaust working with the intake and throttle body it all works better in combination.
You bet, you are meticulous for sure. TCM upgrade? Haven’t heard that one. New as year or aftermarket? Recommendation? Havent seen that in your videos. Yes it is stock. Have AWD model if makes diff. Awesome. Good to hear. That cold intake you made is amazing but huge commitment for my daily. My schedule may never finish it. Ill for sure do throttle soon. Electric fan not worth after using it? Im in norcal going to desert often so yeah over 100* often. Thanks again for everything! Your the man
Another question that is not related to the engine. I have a 2001 Durango AWD. I need to change the thre front diferencial seals and I can't find the parts where I live without talking it apart first. Do You know what part numbers for the three seals?? I love Your videos 👍🏻
Just want to emphasize the approach Martin uses to extract the rockers from under the cam. He's compressing the rocker tensioners with his approach, not the valves and valve springs. If you look at other videos, you'll see folks use a valve spring compressor, which is what I did. The problem/risk with this approach is that you could lose a valve spring retainer clip, letting the valve drop into the cylinder. Reduce your risk of this, and follow Martin's approach to just compress the tensioner. Lesson that I learned the hardway, destroying my #8 piston and passenger side head. Oh well...
Hello martin, i am using your videos as base to remove my heads. I am completely stuck when removing the bolts on the camshaft. I am impacting the hell out of them with an impact and do not budge a bit
Martin...here I am in April 2022...and staring at this video loving the lesson and info. Gotta look up those tools!!! Btw they way...what measurement did you finally use after the .0025 thou??? You never specified...but im guessing the .0015 thou??...to make the stem throw..or .0020 to allow for heat variation?
How would I go about buying one of your valve spring compressors. If I put the 08 cams in do you think I would have to change the springs. I’m not gonna be kicking 6000 RPMs. Thank you Martin. I just recently rebuilt my head but I changed everything but the springs I’m using the same springs I have 316,000 miles on my 4.7 L which I just rebuilt. Hoping for another 300,000. And really the only problem with it was bad valve stem seals but I thought if I was in there I might as well just take care of all of it thank goodness for your videos.
You can contact me at Facebook messenger facebook.com/Martinbuilt-2351766611763181 to purchase the valve spring compressor. No, I don't think it is necessary to change the springs.
Hi Martin, appreciate the content. Was curious if the 2004 4.7 HO camshafts have more lift than the 4.7 08 camshafts >> LEFT: 53021979AA or 53021983AB RIGHT: 53021980AA or 53021984AB. I'm interested in upgrading my gen 1 Durango 4.7 camshafts as currently had the heads refurbished because of a valve seat dropped. So it would be easy to swap them out now before put them back on the engine. Thank you!
Thank you I'm glad you liked it and found it helpful. The only thing I did was put the computer into a quick learn mode. There is definitely horsepower that could be gained by having Flyn Ryan Performance tone the engine.
Any info on if using 08 cams on a first design h.o. motor would cause clearance issues with pistons? Ive heard they are a domed piston and i may be getting a lead on an h.o. for my 02 ram. Just figured i could put the 08 cams in while its on a stand rather than tryin to do it after its in the truck. Supposedly as long as the motor came from another jtec pcm vehicle it should fire up. Id wanna get denso injectors youve talked about im sure. But spitballin at this point on makin the truck get some more pep in the step. Its already fun to drive as its got the nv3500 5 sp manual trans. But could use a few "safe upgrades" that wont dislodge valve seats and still be on pump gas. But just wondering if the increase in lift would impact a valve with a piston
Hi @martinbuilt Have you gotten around to characterizing the valve springs for the 4.7HO? There are several springs but Only Melling vs2482 provides any specs: 53psi closed 137psi open. I'm preparing to refresh an HO and hate to reuse or downgrade the springs.
@@martinbuilt When I do the valve seals should I replace the springs also? And do you recommend getting the newer style seals or the ones my 02 came with.
@@rodm5830 if you are referring to the 08 seals, no I would stick with the factory replacements and if you are into revving the engine beyond 5000 rpm yeah I would replace the springs.
Hey Martin..Thanks for such outstanding information about the beloved 4.7! I am in the process of doing a top end - timing chain & gear set on my 2002 Dakota, and i am considering the HO camshaft upgrade (no regrind). I am planning to replace the valve springs as i am reconditioning the heads, but i am not able to determine with confidence if i would need to install an upgraded valve spring. I am wondering if you may have some insight here?

Actually did some homework to answer my own question. Lower/narrower LSA does contribute to higher low-end torque, however, it also results in higher overlap which in turn counter-acts developing low-end torque. That part is really confusing, but ... well. Taking numbers from the description (if they are correct), we get around 24 degrees of overlap, vs 18 degrees on pre-2008 HO cams. On the bright side, due to higher lift values, we should be getting higher end figures (Tq/Hp) So it all depends, whether the gain from lift increase would be greater than the loss from the increased overlap. W/o dyno figures we can only speculate. But for sure it will develop more power in mid- and high-range. Pretty cool for highway cruising, I guess. Though ... for offroad/towing purposes this is less than ideal, unfortunately. Correct me if I am wrong.
Did you have to tune your engine after this? I want to put the 12 hole injectors and the 08 cams in my 07 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I just picked up 8 of them from the junkyard and I’m cleaning them right now and I grabbed both cams from an 09 dodge Dakota with 139,000 miles. They look brand new. The truck was rolled so it was a pain to get them but worth it because they’re $60 for both. I have factory intake and air cleaner and then factory exhaust but muffler is a flow master super 44. I like these videos and love how your cheap turned out. I would love to put the ram air intake but I don’t want to cut my factory hood. Trying to make my cheap a sleeper.
It sounds like you scored on those camshafts; perhaps you should also grab the intake manifold as well So far, I have not had to tune the engine, but a tune would definitely get you more horsepower..
@@martinbuilt I thought about it but I read that my throttle body won’t bolt up and those adapters are pricey. I’m trying to keep this on the low end. If you had to choose a tuner what would you recommend? There’s so many out there but they all seem to be pre programmed tunes which I don’t know if those tunes will work with the mods I’ve done as I would love to take advantage of which to me means custom tune maybe?
Hey Martin. Ty for the content. I was replacing my valve stem seals when noticed some of my lifters had movement. Since I am here... Should I replace all lifters springs and seals? Do I need to replace camshaft since I am here in the engine?
Yeah, since you're that far into it, I would go ahead and replace the lash adjusters. I wouldn't worry about the Springs. The camshafts are fine unless you want to upgrade to the HO cams or the 08 and later. Thank you for watching.
Hello, Martin! I've watched this video about 50 times, ans it's a great video! My question is this: I have an 04 Dakota...I've already gotten an i take from a 2011 Ram. Since I can't seem to find new cams, I'm probably going to grab the cams from that truxk also. When using the 08 and newer cams, can I use the cam sprockets from my 04? Or do I need the sprockets from the 2011 as well? Thanks in advance, and keep making these great videos!
I appreciate you watching it 50 times that always helps the analytics.. LOL You'll need to use your original cam sprockets. Thank you for supporting the channel I appreciate that. Good luck with the cam swap.
@@martinbuilt Awesome! Thanks for the input! On another note, you don't happen to sell those throttle body adapters for the 454 throttle body, do you? I'm gonna go the same route that you did, but I don't have access to a machine shop.

I picked up a set of HO heads to go in my 2005 Ram 4.7. I’m not wanting to give up any off-the-line grunt, and my tach needle tends to stay to the left...’08 cams a waste of money for a guy like me? Got an ‘08 intake for it and planning on getting a tuner.
hey martin, are these retainers and keepers that you used the corresponding part numbers for the beehive valve springs or are they the OE keeper and retainers. love the videos and learn alot from them, rebuilding my 4.7 right now and am stealing a few of your cool ideas, will support your channel real soon and shoot you over some pictures of the 4.7 when it’s finished
Thank you for your thorough directions to a job well done. I do have a question Martin and would greatly appreciate your response. I have a 2003 Durango 4.7 have newly purchased heads ready to install . I would like to install 08 cams and HO beehive springs on the 2003 4.7 . Is it possible and if so do you have any advice to offer ? Thanks in advance and for all your help .
Yes, absolutely that will bolt right in, you may want to replace the valve stem seals at the same time. Make sure you only purchase genuine Mopar cams as there are many chines knock-offs on ebay and other parts houses. If the cams look like the ones I installed and have the part numbers on the middle of the shaft that should be the ones.
Hey I have some info I'm having issues finding...I'm putting new valve springs in. I got the HO heads and cams now...I can't find what the best performing springs would be...I ordered competition cams valve springs with 330lb lift pressure...is that too strong? Should i go less? More?
I work at O'Reilly's and ordered a set of Comp Cams springs...330lbs of lift. Do you think thats too much? Can you give me a link to your solid lifters too? If you get a bonus from it I want you to get it...couldn't have done this withoit you
@@martinbuilt that should get you some more pony's out of it. i like the scoop on the hood also. and i'm glad to hear your front tires squeal a bit coming in the garage, mine do that also and i was wondering if it was normal. now i know it is.
I really lile your videos on the 4.7ls...so far I only did one side but what I did was use a breaker bar against the frame instead of a cam tool and it worked great... What I wanted to know was if I do that, it's not hurting the timing chain or anything is it?
I'm not sure I understand how you you did it . If your tightening or loosening the Bolt and not hold the camshaft in place you are putting way too much tension on the chain, chain guides and tensioners.
I probably should find a different way when I out it back together then...it's getting new guides and a new chain and cams and new heads anyways so I'm not entirely worried about them breaking but I don't want to break the new ones when I put it back together... What is your recommendation if I don't have the gear holding tool kit yours?
Hi Martin, Great vid. I have the same year Jeep and engine. I have blue smoke coming out the tail pipe. mechanic says oil getting past the valve seals causing the smoke. says he needs to pull the heads or engine to fix it ? @@martinbuilt thanks but it smells more like it's internal like blow by and I seen a video that they had bad valve seals that year in the 4,7 ho just wondered what you thought on that issue. Thanks again
Hi, Martin, thanks for the info. I have 2000 Jeep wj, 4.7 and thought to do the same, but I've read that it is not only cams that are different from HO motor. Are you sure it is?
I never said that it was only the cams that were different.. On an HO engine, the cams, the cylinder heads, harmonic balancer, pistons, crankshaft, and the connecting rods are all different.
Sorry to keep commenting with odd questions...what method do you use for removing the bolts from the valve covers? I don't like hammering on my valve covers and I had to do that just to get the bolts out...them things are In there GOOD!!!
Yeah, those bolts can be hard to pull out, in this video, toward the being I show you how to remove those bolts. ruclips.net/video/T-YsTF1Slg0/видео.html
Got a couple questions for you. My 03 overland has started smoking at idle, so it’s time for seals. 1st.How powerful of a compressor would need for that process? The only time I’ve change valve seals was using the rope trick. Wasn’t fun, prefer to try the air pressure method. 2nd. How long do you think this would take with normal tools? 3rd. Would you consider renting out that valve block tool?
I would test the compressor you have and if it will at least maintain 60 psi. Be prepared to send the day on this. As far as valve spring compressors go I don't like any of them out there other then the one I have (which is not ready for sale yet) and there is one other one I have seen on eBay that someone is making out of plastic.
Hey Martin ! I love your videos , I wish I could contact you some how I have questions almost every other day 😂, but I have an 02 4.7 V8 and I was wondering if I can buy the seal that is out the 08s that come with the springs , I don’t want to just replace the seals because I have no idea how good the springs are and would like to redo it all while I’m in there , is there any kit with everything in it ?
where can I buy the cams and springs from? I've been searching the internet and can't seem to find them. Did you get them from the dealership? I was looking aftermarket.
Don't but any aftermarket 4.7 cams, they are all from china and are specs of the 99-07 non-HO engines. I found my cams on eBay from a seller that parts out engines. The spring I bought from a private seller but, he got them from the dealership.

so are these 08 HO cams or just 08 cams? or in 08 did they only made an HO cam, looking to do this to my dodge with the 4.7, id like the little power increase
I have a question I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota had a valve job done on it because of a burnt valve After I put everything back together it idles too high no vaccume leaks wondering what else to do
Hi Martin. Do you recommend putting in a wideband 02 sensor when installing these cams in an older 4.7? ( 03 dakota)Nothing else done to the engine as far as mods.
I'm not sure it's really needed but it sure is nice to see what's going on and know that it's working like it should. I've got one in my Jeep and I'm watching that thing all the time.
How long would just swapping cams take or you were only working not having to film / explain? I could wait until tomorrow morning at work and look on allData but I figured you would know and I’m impatient. thanks Martin! Oh and I know this is an old video but where would you say is the cheapest / easiest place to get a couple of 2008+ ho cams ?
I would have to say from start to finish including removing all the wiring, battery, battery tray you're looking at five or six hours. And that's not including if you were to install the solid latch Adjusters. You could probably add another 3 to 5 hours to that just for the adjustment part of it.
I found a set on eBay from a guy that sells used auto parts I only gave $130 for the set. Be careful not to buy any of the brand new Chinese knockoff ones they may claim to fit in 08 + but the cam specifications are the same for the 07 and earlier 4.7 s. Right now they are somewhat hard to find in the salvage yards they just started showing up there now but should be more plentiful as the years ago on.
martinbuilt thank you very much I’ll stay away from the Chinese knockoffs. Btw I’d love to see you fit a set of headers on your wj or possibly a wk. or an exhaust cut out install would be cool also
The 1st gen 4.7 have holes in the intake lobes for oiling and the second gen cams DO NOT have oil holes in the intake lobes on the camshaft as the 08+ heads are different and have a different way of oiling the cam. I just bought 08+ cams and i am now very sad that i cant finish putting my engine back together to put it back in.
You can put the engine back together no worries worries the camelobes are being oiled from the rocker arms, Through that hole on the rocker arm from the lash adjuster. Then the Cam journals are being oiled from the cylinder head.
I now own an 06 durango with the 4.7l, i just want to make sure i understand this right, i can buy 08 cams, rockers, and springs and put them in my 06 4.7, without changing anything else?
Hi I’m going to be doing all your 4.7 upgrades to my 2005 wk but I had a question first. Will my 165k mike bottom end be ok with doing all the mods or should I wait and get a crate engine? Thanks for all the videos!!
Hi Martin! I have an 04 grand cherokee limited w the 4.7 (nonHO). Had a head gasket problem or so I thought. Took apart engine and had the nonHO heads surfaces milled and pressure tested. They're ready to go. The block on the other hand has scoring on the deck so I went to the junkyard. I just picked up a donor motor from an 03 GC. It turns out its an HO motor. Am I able to take the HO block and use my nonHo heads with it? Can I use the ho cams in the non ho head also? I'm reading the ho pistons are domed and my no ho motor is not. Worried about valve interference. Thank you for all your help!
Yes all of that will work you can use your non HO heads on the HO short block with no problem with the HO camshafts. Get ready for a nice bump in horse power.
I've heard that the 08,09 cam & intake upgrade does make quite a difference. Can you do this while retaining the existing exhaust? Also did you use the 08 intake, the HO intake or your original? If you did do the intake were there any fitment issues?

Now that's a sweet Jeep! My lifters will be here today from Amazon, I also took your advice and ordered the valve stem seals. I have a 2005 Ram 1500 4.7l and the last owner didn't take very good care of it, so I'll be watching more of your videos. Thanks again!
Let us know how it turns out for you.
Thank you for your time..knowledge
.and busted knuckles

Thank you, Cody, that was talking with you and your Dad.

Your the man! Please post when you have the tune install. I want to get one on mine but not sure what to get.
Glad to help, good luck with the mods.

Oh well...
Hi Jeff, did you happen to use the Miller valve Spring compressor when that happened?
Nice man!
I want to see this thing on a dyno after a good tune!
Hello martin, i am using your videos as base to remove my heads. I am completely stuck when removing the bolts on the camshaft. I am impacting the hell out of them with an impact and do not budge a bit
Those cam bolts are only torqued to 100 in.lbs are you sure you are not talking about the head bolts. those can be very hard to break loose.
I would go with .0015
Hell yeah Martin!!!! Thank you sir!!! Another awesome video man!!!
Was curious if the 2004 4.7 HO camshafts have more lift than the 4.7 08 camshafts >> LEFT: 53021979AA or 53021983AB
RIGHT: 53021980AA or 53021984AB. I'm interested in upgrading my gen 1 Durango 4.7 camshafts as currently had the heads refurbished because of a valve seat dropped. So it would be easy to swap them out now before put them back on the engine. Thank you!
Yes the 08 camshafts have more lift than the HO camshafts do.
Thank you for watching.
This is a great video! Do you have to reprogram anything in the computer to adjust for the different cams?

Hay Martin, did You notice a great improvemente with the 08 cams?? . Did your milage get better o worse.??
I wonder if that '08 camshaft would increase the low-end torque or not? Looking for some offroad experience improving mods :)
Seemed like after 1st it pulled compared to stock 4.7
Actually did some homework to answer my own question.
Lower/narrower LSA does contribute to higher low-end torque, however, it also results in higher overlap which in turn counter-acts developing low-end torque. That part is really confusing, but ... well.
Taking numbers from the description (if they are correct), we get around 24 degrees of overlap, vs 18 degrees on pre-2008 HO cams.
On the bright side, due to higher lift values, we should be getting higher end figures (Tq/Hp)
So it all depends, whether the gain from lift increase would be greater than the loss from the increased overlap.
It sounds like you scored on those camshafts; perhaps you should also grab the intake manifold as well
So far, I have not had to tune the engine, but a tune would definitely get you more horsepower..
So if I was hypothetically of course blow up my motor in my 2002 wj 4.7 could I just swap a 08 motor out of a Durango or wk?
Hey Martin. Ty for the content. I was replacing my valve stem seals when noticed some of my lifters had movement. Since I am here... Should I replace all lifters springs and seals? Do I need to replace camshaft since I am here in the engine?

What I wanted to know was if I do that, it's not hurting the timing chain or anything is it?
I'm not sure I understand how you you did it . If your tightening or loosening the Bolt and not hold the camshaft in place you are putting way too much tension on the chain, chain guides and tensioners.
I probably should find a different way when I out it back together then...it's getting new guides and a new chain and cams and new heads anyways so I'm not entirely worried about them breaking but I don't want to break the new ones when I put it back together...

Awesome Tutorials!!! I have a 2003 4.7L Dodge Durango. Fixing has to do work on it. Would you happen to make and sell the "cam sprocket tool"? I could use one for myself, let me know! Thanks! :)
I don't currently have any available.. Perhaps one of these days, I'll get get a machine shop to water jet a bunch of these out for sale.

Hey Martin huge fan! I have a 2000 grand cherokee with the 4.7L I'm looking to do the upgrades to mine like you have done but I noticed the beehive valve springs don't cross over to my jeep. The ones you listed in the description, will they still fit mine?
Yes they will fit.
Is there a different set I can get that are similar but maybe cheaper? Just asking because I'm on a very tight budget to get my jeep going again haha
Can I use the same technique you used here to remove the rockers on a Dodge Charger 3.6?
yes you can use the same technique. I may have to go to Pic-a-Part and do a video on this.
so are these 08 HO cams or just 08 cams? or in 08 did they only made an HO cam, looking to do this to my dodge with the 4.7, id like the little power increase
The earlier WJs 4.7 had Magnesium valve covers?!?! 😮
Excelente Amigo colega..
Thank you 🙂👍
@@martinbuilt hare un video en Español. Gracias
Btw I’d love to see you fit a set of headers on your wj or possibly a wk.
or an exhaust cut out install would be cool also
@@JameyCampbell_54 Here's a video I did an install onset of Doug Thorley Headers but no exhaust cut out. ruclips.net/video/u6-Yl1z8auA/видео.html
That is correct but you won't need to change your rocker arms, they are the same as the 08
Hi
I’m going to be doing all your 4.7 upgrades to my 2005 wk but I had a question first. Will my 165k mike bottom end be ok with doing all the mods or should I wait and get a crate engine?
Thanks for all the videos!!
I think you will be just fine.
martinbuilt great thanks!!
Also could you make a video on how to Remove and Replace the heads lol I have to do that also
Excellent Job Amigo !! Thanks a Lot For Sharing ....
You are welcome, glad you liked it 😊
When running the 08 cams with the Comp beehive springs, what hydraulic lifters should I use?
I've heard that the 08,09 cam & intake upgrade does make quite a difference. Can you do this while retaining the existing exhaust? Also did you use the 08 intake, the HO intake or your original? If you did do the intake were there any fitment issues?
I would upgrade the exhaust to get the full benefits from the cams/intake. I have since installed the 08-13 intake with a custom 75mm throttle body.
Hey martin how are you?youre videos are amazing and really helpfull and informative.I ordered the 08 cams from amazon from the link i was wondering if it is possible to run stock replacement valve springs instead of the beehive springs?or what is the benefits of the beehive springs? thank you very much and keep up the great work your a 4.7l master mind..
Thank you Edward, I think you're going to want to return those camshafts, there is no one out there that is manufacturing 08 camshafts to the specifications they are all 2007 and earlier specifications. Send me the link
@@martinbuilt I apologize for the mix up about the link. I ran those part numbers for the camshaft and found some on amazon for 2008 4.7ls. Thank you for the reply. Its a bummer that im gonna have to return these ill check the wrecking yards then.
@@edwardnava9591 I'm glad you had messaged me because you would have been disappionted in the performance of those cams had you installed them.
Hi Martin like everyone else I'm enjoying the heck out of your videos I have a 02 ram it's getting the engine rebuilt right now and I'm confused about one thing is it only the 2008 cams or 2008 and above that work?
Thank you, I appreciate that. It is the 08-13 but everybody including myself calls them the 08 Cams or Intake because that is the year they made the change.
Hey Martin, you're doing and amzing job. Love your material.
Do you have the specs on a 2008 4.7l Camshaft?
I'm picking up a 08' cam set and would like to check the bearings and lobes for wear.
Love your channel
Thank you, this video should help. ruclips.net/video/FEeXtDnWy8w/видео.html
I doubt there would be any cam lobe wear that decrease the lift of the lobe unless the engine was starved for oil. I have 3 sets and all have looked like near new.
Hi Martin, thank you for getting back to me. I have my tool's ready for the trip out to the salvage yard tomorrow. Have a great one.
