Magcargo earned my respect years ago, when mine solo-carried me thru one of the worst near-wipes i've ever had in a Heart Gold nuzlocke. Amazing video. Dunno if you're reading comments, but right now in Pokemon GO Magcargo is at the top of the boards in the current PVP limited cup. There are a few limited cups where Magcargo is really good and the current one has mandatory steel or ice mons, which means Magcargo with Incinerate is burning teams and taking names.
Interesting video, especially that last part. Reminds me that I should tell my own Pokemon story. I ran a Pokemon Club in the area for a while in the VERY early days of Pokemon (pre-first movie) hosted at an anime shop in a mall. BUT I made it clear I accepted ALL monster training games and frequently featured other games. Then one day I decided to show off some Monster Rancher and the guy running the store called the owners to tell them about this, then lied and told me they called and wanted to talk to me and he didn't know what it was about, and they gave me a talking to for playing Monster Rancher at the Pokemon Club. Really great video! You showcasing your thought process of building the team and tying it into catching people up with the meta at the time was really well done. Also it's a small detail but I loved the use of Scovillain's design at the end to talk about the comedy and tragedy of the situation.
Jesus. This is some good ass content. I got this on my recommended and decided to check it out. You tell stories in a very interesting manner, I was hooked all video. Plus, the art style as well as your voice was very calming and easy on the ears. Keep it up!!
I played all the Pokemon games several times and started to build teams completely made up of Pokemon I never used before. In my last HG playtrough I used Magcargo and it unironically was a beast. It carried me through the Lance fight and multiple other big fights, especially the rematches. I was stunned at how well a Flamethrower, Ancient Power, Earth Power, Recover Magcargo just handled these pretty difficult battles.
The competitive community effectively flipping the chess board in a tantrum because their team looses too much is exactly why I've never even dabbled in the competitive side of pokemon. I've found much more satisfaction in the challenge side of the game. It's really two different schools of thought: The comp side lives by trying to find the easiest way to win, and then working to ban anything that's stronger and better until every aspect of creativity and problem solving is boiled away and you're left with something that's more RNG than strategy. The challenge side looks at the games and asks, "Can we beat the game on an even harder difficulty?" And the most popular players in the challenge community are the ones putting the most labor and love into a run. The challenge community doesn't get into petty squabbles, flip the table, or take their ball and go home when they lose. They go back to the drawing board and solve the problem. Or after a successful run, they look back at it and start planning an even harder run the next time.
That's really not how competitive scenes operate tbh, thats like a made up ideal used by people who arent part of the scene to justify not wanting to be part of it instead of just minding their own business lol. And people from the challenge community also like to come into my stream and harrass me for playing casually so it doesnt make sense to pretend one is bad and one is good. There's bad actors in every community.
I don't know if you were around or paying attention at the time, but something like ten plus years ago when Pokemoshpit was still around (gen4 - gen5 era) some big Pokemon RUclipsrs started getting partnered, with big names like Machinima getting into the Pokemon RUclips scene for a while too. There was a dude named Pikawu, who was by all means a pretty good (and decently popular) Poketuber, that really wanted to get partnered and made a video essentially begging the community to help him get partnership. The dogpiling of this guy that followed was legendary, and I think he eventually departed RUclips altogether as a result. This video is the first of yours I've seen and I really enjoyed it. The story just reminded me of that little bit of Pokemon history from my days as a lad beginning to learn about the internet.
This video is really engaging and well made! And I'm super interested in Monster Rancher as that franchise I remember being kind of obsessed with as a kid but never having played the games. Instant follow haha
In gen6 there was a madman using a Magcargo team in OU, in mid/high ladder. He even had Delibird too! Nickname was doctor phrog, the replays are still available on Pokemon Showdown :]
Couple of things, been watching Pokemon content for over a decade and this might be one of the highest quality videos I’ve ever seen. Great editing, topic that’s a relatively uncovered in the RUclips community, and showing genuinely thorough teambuilding. And you put on GG music over it all? Dope shit my dude.
When I was a kid I gave my brother my copy of Pokemon Diamond, and even decided to give him a few "strong" Pokemon from my Platinum game to kickstart him. One of these Pokemon was Magcargo, and for that reason I'll always remember this weird little dude fondly. Great video!
This is one of the best competitive pokemon videos I've watched. As much as I love legends like finch and bkc. Their vids aren't very engaging, especially if you're a casual player (not a knock on them its just their style, being more long form heavily informative vids for experienced players). This on the other hand is a very entertaining stand alone vid about an interesting niche subject in competitive.
Oh Wow, this is a so much higher quality compare to the usual Monster Rancher video. I'm impressed. And looks like the algorithm pick it up too. Congrats. I'm not a Pokemon player, so I hope you won't stop making the monster rancher videos.

I love Magcargo. Focus Sash Weak Armor with Shell Smash and Fire Blast under the sun is an amazing glass cannon, was one of the first sets I ran when getting into competitive singles. And the snail sweeps too o.O
Finally got around to watching this; fucking ruled man.
I'm an all around Mon Raising Game Enjoyer so this definitely hit. Would not mind seeing more varied content on the channel like this in the future. (Monster Rancher still best tho lmao)
I LOVE hearing little snippets of history like this; you told it very well and the visuals were incredible. I know you were saying how long it took on stream and god it shows man; great job.
I for one embrace the campfire storytellings of Mr Bones of Moose.
As a fellow Macargo Appreciator, I love seeing you make it viable in some capacity. In ORAS I brought mine out in the Deoxys fight and took pictures of my snail-buddy fighting in space.
This godly thumbnail had me immediately invested
Production value on this is crazy; great work!
this was so fun to watch
that team was brilliantly constructed, well done
I never heard of this format but it seems like a fun time with you friends. Really fun video to watch 😊
The editing was great! Nice video
This was an awesome video. Really sweet to see you cover new (but still adjacent) content here!
Magcarogo. Bad stats, bad moves, bad signature ability. But still one of my favorite moms. Give magcwrgo and evo in Gen 10 please.
Ikr. It wouldn't even be brokenwith that typing.
@@rjante2236 it’s stats are way too low for how long it takes to evo lv 40. It’s signature ability only prevents freezing the literal only status none tries to inflict. And there are only 3 special rock moves and it only gets the worst one on AP.
I say change magma armor to half water damage so it’s only 2x instead of 4x. Evo for better stats and give it PG for special rock or new signiture special rock move like they did for kleavor
You could make magma armor immune to water and he still wouldnt be broken
Really great video! You showcasing your thought process of building the team and tying it into catching people up with the meta at the time was really well done. Also it's a small detail but I loved the use of Scovillain's design at the end to talk about the comedy and tragedy of the situation.
This is an amazing video, great visual style
Jesus. This is some good ass content. I got this on my recommended and decided to check it out. You tell stories in a very interesting manner, I was hooked all video. Plus, the art style as well as your voice was very calming and easy on the ears. Keep it up!!
All you say about magcargo is absolutly correct, but I love that moving disaster
This was an epic video start to finish, your channel forsure gonna blow up 🔥
All 10 of us magcargo enjoyers are shedding tears of joy rn (great vid btw!)
Very nice video, Nash. Good to see your stuff getting some recognition.
I feel like there are specific eons of poketubing, the whole ecosystem just kinda replaces itself anew every few years except for the biggest names.
This video is really engaging and well made! And I'm super interested in Monster Rancher as that franchise I remember being kind of obsessed with as a kid but never having played the games. Instant follow haha
Macargo was my first shiny I ever caught all the way back in Pokémon Emerald
In gen6 there was a madman using a Magcargo team in OU, in mid/high ladder. He even had Delibird too! Nickname was doctor phrog, the replays are still available on Pokemon Showdown :]
Dang dude, your editing is fantastic!!
This is a very high effort video, and an interesting insight into the earlier times of PU. I hope this gets the attention it deserves
Rocking with that legend of dragoon music
this was a fun watch, well done!
Super dope video! Hope to see more Pokemon
Halfway through this video and it’s so fantastic. Earned a sub
Edit: bro the “I am owed tens of dollars” has me dead 💀
I'm very nostalgic for Gen 5 competitive so this video was just what I needed. Great editing, too!
I have no idea about video editing but this video looks very well done. Top tier video for a top tier story! Or maybe bottom tier for PU? lol
Oh Wow, this is a so much higher quality compare to the usual Monster Rancher video.
I'm impressed.
And looks like the algorithm pick it up too. Congrats.
I'm not a Pokemon player, so I hope you won't stop making the monster rancher videos.
"What? You are playing competitive Pokemon competitively? Someone ban this man!"
