Quick heads up for anyone ordering a FightBox. I got the F8 and it has been AMAZING! For the price, (I got the PC version), it's leagues above the competition in a dollar to dollar comparison. The build quality is fantastic, I opened it up to rewire the extra buttons (I play SF6) and the wiring was neat, tidy and easy to follow/make changes. There was absolutely zero rattle when shaking the box and the buttons all felt crisp. I've opened mine to fiddle with it multiple times and it's always been easy to open and make changes and once put back together it looks and feels like I never messed with it in the first place. I don't think you'll find any box for around the $130 I paid for it that is comparable in any way. Also, I would recommend buying the PC version as Brook sells a USB stick for around $50 that allows controllers like this to play on Ps5 and the such and save the money that the more expensive encoder would've cost.
Can you please give a link to the USB stick that enables the PC version of FightBox to play on PS5? Also does the Brook converter working with FightBox?
I’m planing on buying a fight box only for pc simply because it’s 110$. After that if I feel like getting something higher end and universal ill get something new. Thanks for the review man :)
I've just ordered this model (DIY PC version) and there are not much reviews on RUclips that I can find but I won't cancel my order after seeing your review. I think I'm gonna love it. It'll be enough for me. Thanks for the review :)
Personally, I like the B1. Feels like a higher quality build, and a little more portable. However, it's less upgradeable (can't swap out boards), and less customizable (you'd have to paint the buttons or some such, whereas the F1 can have different buttons installed).
@@Kerwell I think the B1 is a solid option but you should go for one of the Brook models if you do (they get firmware updates whereas the generic encoder may not). You can always get the DIY model for artwork later down the line. It's easy enough to change out the keyboard switches in this if they fail (or you just want to try other options), though if you want whole other buttons, etc, you'll want to look elsewhere. There's a ton of options out there now and many are using the GP2040 which is great for PC too, so make sure to look around.
@@Zevaeros yeah I initially wanted an mpress, but at the same time I still want sanwa buttons. I just don’t really like the edges of the hitbox. It’s too rigged. So I’m not sure what to choose

How to access the mod home and turbo button? Accidental pressing of these buttons bothers me. Is it possible to somehow reassign them? To put R3 or L3 on the turbo button please tell me... in Windows these buttons are not displayed in the controller settings, maybe there is some kind of config where you can reassign the buttons? I would like to disable mod and home altogether
hey, great review! I've only own a Switch, and only plan to build a(n arcade emulator) pc in the following year(s). Have never owned a hitbox type controller. I only want to buy one of them to try it out on some casual local couch play with my kids and friends. Do I need the brook version or the zero delay encoder will do it for me perfectly? I think I might only care about three things: 1.) SOCD (I know it's casual use only but still let's have this feature) 2.) no delay at all 3.) price + plugandplay thanks in advance!
It seems that you can only change the keycaps with keycaps that are also from FightBoxArcade. Otherwise, you would probably have to find similarly sized keycaps elsewhere, which could be hard as the keycap size may be proprietary to FightBoxArcade.
Hi, i was planning on buying a hitbox with a PC pcb and i was wondering i there is a way to change the SOCD from UP+DOWN=UP to UP+DOWN=NEUTRAL for the recent rule chnages. Thanks alot
I really want to buy one after spedning ages with a keyboard, if I were to change the mounts for lets say a completely different one do you think it will still work or is it cherry mx compatible only ? thanks
if money isnt an issue and id probably replace the switches with a gateron silver pros, is there any reason not to get a normal hitbox over this if all i play is fighting games? purely performance and quality wise? just wondering because the normal hitbox is starting to seem like a poor value
There's some reasons; If you're a Sanwa die hard the HB might be for you. Also if you like larger controllers for lap play and such it might be better.
@@Zevaeros i have no connection to sanwa in any way so i think im probably better off with something else. just ordered the snackbox xl so im excited :)

Thanks for reviewing fightbox! I just bought an F9 and was shook to see there are VERY few reviews.
Most of the buyer base seems to be outside of the United States, a country that has bestowed many reviews upon the world.

Sounds like you can’t replace the button caps? Sucks because I’d love to throw some crown 202s in it.

I didn't get the inspiration to try, but other Cherry MX-compatible caps might work. You can't put in different buttons though.

You'll need a Brook board-equipped model then. You should be able to get the updater then set it into tournament mode.
Hotswap is 3pin or 5pin switches?
Oof, I'm struggling to remember, but you can always buy PCB (5 pin) switches and clip the plastic pins if they don't work.
@@Zevaeros I Googled or searched another review it's 5pin for those reading!
Question, will this work with a brooks wings man adapter? So say I have the basic model and wanna use it on my Xbox?
The Brook-equipped models should work, not sure about the PC variant. Generally if it's X-Input compatible it should work though.
do you need to buy the cable? or it comes in the package
It came with ours.

The underlying PCB is keyed for standard Cherry MX-type switches, if that's what you mean.

If you mean can the buttons get stuck under the acrylic panel, no. You can see me mashing pretty hard in the lab scene and it doesn't happen.

I don't know about the base PC model but the Brook models should be (I've tested a UFB on the Wingman XB2, similar idea).
would it be easy to upgrade the pcb to a ps5 pcb down the line?
No, these are soldered in, so it's best to get the version that you want out of the gate.
