See the custom build building of a 45 WL stroker motor as being machined and manufactured. This is all custom and being designed as we go.
my 1942 WLA burnout bike motor was about the same size but was made from mostly stock parts back in the early 80's. This is how I am going to do the build with new ideas from my 20 years of vintage landspeed racing experience.
This stroker motor will have allot more power then my old motor and allot more reliability.

Yea, Tatro!!! I fixed my 1956 servi-car no shift to 3rd. It would adjust to reverse or 3rd , not both. Hacksaw 3/16 of a inch out of the shift gate. Gets All the gears now. I'm having trouble finding the 6 volt generator field switch for a 3 brush generator. Pops tail light bulb at high rpm. Idle at home it's okay, if I try to ride it, it pop's. Also have new parking brake assembly, no diagram or instructions how to install. It had a 10 over springer on it when I got it. Changed it to a 4 over springer for Sportster 19 inch drum front wheel, clean the linkert and tanks fit an oil filter and oil line's. Cb400 seat, old gl1000 handle bars, 8 by 15 pickup wheels with off road tires, new servi-car exhaust. Put enough of it together to try to ride it
Those were real motorcycles. My dad had an army issue 45.

Love listening to that old bike. My father bought a 45 new and rode it awhile, he would tell me stories of how he loved riding it.
I think what I like most about the 45 is just the way you sit and the back fender rises up behind you. Thanks for sharing these bikes with us.
What a sassy bike. Ive been waiting for 3 years to see that motor fly by the shop. Did not disappoint. Sometimes when the gates get rechromed or it is a repop gate it fills in some of the shifting distance, you may need to mess with the adjustment on the shift rod to find the sweet spot. Not telling you anything you don't already know. Love the build.
you are on point. the owner adjusted the shifter. i told him he needed to center the lever in the gate so that you could get into high gear. it pulls hard thru the 1st two gears.

Love these old bikes ! Bin riding a 58 since I was 17 , im 60 now bought a new heritage soft tail for my birthday, rode it once , parked it in my garage , im still riding my 58 . I don't like the new one

My first bike was a 1941 45ci Sportsolo I bought for $400.00 bucks in 1969. Mine was right Red I spent almost a year rebuilding it just to have a guy back out in front of me and total it out three months after I got it on the road.

Hello Keenan, it's Bill from Pennsylvania, love seeing this bike in motion, I can't help feeling I had a tiny part in its completion
i just built a 1945 wl but to factory spec.... fired for first time last week, buttoning up now ....not 3rd gear is either the shifter linkage adjustment or the gear box or the adjustment of distance between the gearbox and the motor.... kinda a pain with reverse gear on my servi and the shift gate...nice ride your DAD is loving it
if you did the trans correctly than it is in the shift linkage adjustment. if the parts are worn alot you will always have problems.

But now with prices on Harleys ts time to do it if any body wants my 72 an they don't have pile cash it's not leaving I can see it from the couch behind dining I'm table. The 45 WL's are among the most overlooked models from Harley history. But to me the design and stance make it such an attractive motorcycle. Harley owners these days are of the same mindset that the bigger the engine, and the bike is the only measure that matter. That is why Sportsters aren't selling and I don't get that.
what is popular changes over the years. that is why harley makes all the different models over the years. but i do like the 45's.

Tatro I got a question, I'm putting apes on my 99 heritage, if I'm correct at the cable kits for 99-06 softails except Springers should all be the same shouldn't they?

Why dont you just ride it? Whats with all the measuring and numbers, and mine's bigger than yours? My mates got 2 more HP than you. Blah blah blah. Perfectly rideable as is. Go to Dyno blowups on YT. Perfectly good vehicle when it left home , blown up wreck by 2pm and for what?

Man I hope that guys 3rd and 4th gear come back into play, damn I would be so bummed if 3rd and 4th gear were not engaging after doing a full rebuild that would really suck! Might need to tear it down for a second time to figure out that issue, what a bummer! Absolutely beautiful bike though
it is a 3 speed trans. the owner has the shift linkage out of adjustment. that is how these old bikes are. you have alot of things that have to be adjusted correctly or they don't work like they should.
