Pro tip from me after almost 7 years of using a wheelchair, even though I’m ambulatory for very short distances (like within home and similar)... Slap on reflective straps on the front just above where the frame divides to go towards casters and footrest. Visible from every direction and out of the way. Also one of those slap on straps on the bar on the backrest, makes you a lot more visible from behind. A fun and useful accessory is to use valve caps with lights in them, then it lights up as you go and you can be seen a lot better and also get a tiny bit better overview of the terrain you’re going on (compared to if not having that little extra light) Both slap on reflective straps and the LED valve caps can be found dirt cheap both online and in physical stores. It’s also possible to put on little spoke decorations with reflective tape on them, I have some at home now at this very moment that I bought like a year or two ago but just never snapped onto my spokes, unsure if they’ll fit Spinergy though, may have to try it tomorrow as I’ve been rolling with Spinergy wheels for a year and a bit now. Living in a country with long, dark winters makes you want to be as visible as possible, especially as a driver too when knowing how difficult it is to see someone who doesn’t wear any reflective gear. I live in Sweden so yeah, far north in the world and it’s dark by 4pm around the holidays, and I honestly think it should be a legal requirement for pedestrians to wear reflective gear of some kind, be it just some sewn in on clothes or whatever, but so many just don’t use anything and dress in dark colors at that. Bicycles are required by law to have both reflective equipment on it, and lights, same with cars, but pedestrians aren’t required by law to be seen...

I elect to use a chair at times but the future may require a deeper commitment. Your channel is about the only place where I find useful information concerning my future mobility changes and how to adjust to a changing life. Thank you and well done!!

So glad I found your channel today. And to have another Canuck is super. I’m in a power chair and any hints and tips on travel and clothing is amazing.
I’m the processes of getting a new chair, Permobil F5 are my favorite wheelchairs with the elevating seat.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, it’s so helpful and encouraging to see others like me talking about our issues that 99 % of people can’t understand.

      Happy New Year.

If you ever come to the UK, you can get the key for the accessible toilets (RADAR Key), from a local council office and some mobility shops, it can also be bought online.

I love this channel! I think a lot of people assume that wheelchair users are born that way; they have no idea that accident or illness can leave you paralysed in a day. Life must go on and that’s why I keep coming back to watch new videos from you, even though I’m not a wheelchair user myself. ❤️

Great Video, I'm new to your channel. If your looking for reflective stuff for the side of your chairs you may wish to try reflective spoke covers, I got mine on Amazon. I also got my radar key from Amazon. However, I sadly do not put stickers all over my chair. Thanks for the info on the camber tube of pulling to the side, I was not aware of that.

Love watching your videos- thank you! My friend is a para with similar injury to yours and this has been so helpful for me to understand him and his needs!
You mentioned an air cushion that you put inside the cushion cover? Can you give more info on it? Is it available for purchase online? What’s it called? Who’s the manufacturer? Etc ... it might be very helpful for my friend who constantly adjusts his back with different cushions. An inflatable/adjustable back cushion might be the perfect product for him!

I don't have anything specific. I used a half a small knubbed yoga ball, sometimes I have used a half foam cylinder. Whatever I can find.

Hi Tanelle, I recently came across your channel. This year I will be having a double above knee amputation so am going to be looking for a decent wheelchair and saw yours and thought it was very cool and with the big tyres.
I live in the uk. I was just wondering where you got it from and how much it cost.
Keep up the great RUclips videos and stay strong. X

Nitrogen inflation is great for tire wear and lower frequency of having to inflate your tires often. Two months vs one.

I know that weight is an issue with wheelchairs, but maybe someone could come up with a design for wheelchairs so that the camber can be change while the user is in the chair. This way, if you get stuck with a place you need to go with narrower door, you can zero out the camber to get through and when finished go back to the preset camber.

    • @ProTipsForParas

I prefer my chair without camber. Unless it is way out there, like a basketball or tennis chair, it doesn't serve me any purpose in my day chair.
