This was honestly amazing getting to see something a little different and I highly encourage you do more silly little things like this! I even loved the little animation bits with the Sudwoodo that you did!
Your set up is on par with a friend of mine, who lies on his bed with a tv and pc to it's side. And when i say he lies down, he literally has two pillows under his right shoulder to prop himself up enough that he can use a mouse
they could just do what they do with abilities interacting with self-imposed drawbacks in most cases and have it ignore the immunity. Like how Torkoal's Overheat still drops its Sp.A despite white smoke normally stopping stat-downs. or how Vigoroth, iirc, can still use Rest despite Vital Spirit normally blocking sleep. just have the Berserk Gene ignore Own Tempo or anything else that would prevent confusion. Heck, those moves can still have their drawbacks countered by hold items, but Berserk Gene, being a hold item itself, naturally couldn't have its own drawback mitigated by a Persim berry or something.
White smoke and clear body don’t prevent you from lowering your own stats, and i’m pretty sure vital spirit and insomnia cause rest to fail. Own tempo blocking things like outrage from confusing you is cool, if they made it only work on outside sources of confusion that would be lost. Plus, tangled feet exists, and switching in with a +2 attack boost with 50% evasion would be extremely frustrating to play against.
Bro, pulling this challenge off makes you just as hype as Gamechamp3000 (who beat Pokémon Blue without getting hit) and Nathaniel Bandy (who beat Pokémon Gold with only Metronome with a single Mew and FireRed with only Brock’s team).
Mewtwo: help me, something wrong happened in the cloning process and now I'm confused and enraged all the time. Sudowoodo: like any drunk man in the movies, I'm secretly overpowered. Parasect: how the hell do I control this bug? Psyduck: I'm blue dabudeedabudae. Piloswine: I'm legally blind. Primeape: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Very fun video my friend, I didn't even know the Berserk Gene was a thing! Let alone actually possible to beat the game with a status like Confusion. Fine work!
This makes me want a hack for a confusion chaos challenge run. Where confusion is a permanent effect on every Pokémon in the game, brain damage for everyone! Half inspired by this video, half by my own Gen 4 experience of praying with the RNG with confusion on both sides.
I'm always down for some Gen 2 love. Some fun facts for you all. 1: AI Trainers get an accuracy debuff on all status moves. This debuff applies after all other calculations. It even applies after moves like Mind Reader and Lock On. You know, those moves that REMOVE the accuracy check. So Chuck's Poliwrath can miss a Mind Reader buffed Hypnosis. And it's regular Hypnosis accuracy is even worse than you'd think it would be. 2: AI Trainers check the damage of every move they have against your Pokemon and then usually pick the move that does the most damage or will knock out your Pokemon. This damage check can actually roll a critical hit which can fool the AI into thinking it's a KO. This is why the Kingdra used Hyper Beam, it rolled a critical hit and got a KO in the check but not in the actual turn. Edit: It was also probably the move that did the most damage in general. Also Primeape got an Evolution in Gen 9. So not only is it so angry that it dies, it's so angry that it ignores the fact that it died to keep on raging!
I will not stand for Dragon Den theme slander, it slaps! Slaps!!!!! It's got a super unique vibe to it and the chiptune "instrumentation" does a really good job of emulating old Japanese instruments despite the limitations. It sounds mystical, like an ancient Dragon's Den where masters are trained should sound like.
I was gonna watch this regardless, cause you do some interesting and solid work with videos. I was then convinced to post and share the video around by all that work you did with the personal skits and such along the way.
This run got me thinking of an "angry attacks only" run, with moves like Rage, Fury Attack, Frustration, Revenge, and the like. I think Foresight would be mandatory, but the Machop line would totally be the star of the run!
8:50 they didn't use Mud Slap at all because of how the AI works; if they see that Gust/Tackle does more damage, then Falkner will prioritize using the aforementioned moves rather than Mud Slap. They'll go for Mud Slap if it does more damage/the same damage as Gust and Tackle though
big fan of such a creative challenge! always good to see innovation in a world of nuzlockes (not sayihng they're bad, it's just nice to see something different is all)
Johto is also probably my favorite region, Heart Gold was the first Pokémon game I've played 1:02 And that Piranha Plant with that cocky smirk made me lose it LOL
I honestly forgot this item was a thing! I feel like the only reason it was cut was likely due to abilities like own tempo negating the downside, and they hadn’t really invented many “let’s turn this debuff into a buff” abilities in gen 3 AFAIK. I could see it coming back as an ability maybe. Except play into the name. Berserk: Flies into an endless rage when confused. (Cannot be issued any commands other then “fight” , or healed by player choice, maxes attack stat and crit rate, never loses confusion status until KOed.)
I am absolutely dumbstruck by the yassified Kyogre at 19:40. Why is it up there? Who bought it starbucks? Where does she get her hair done? I can't help but suspect I'll never know the answers to these burning questions.
Dunsparce is actually an especially good choice for alcohol as they're actually partially based on the Tsuchinoko, which is known for liking alcohol! Really good video my dude, though I might be biased in some way towards it due to HG being my favorite pokemon game ever. Unrelated, but have you heard of Beastieball? It's good, and it's the only game to make me feel the same way as I did back when I was playing HG for the first time again. I also hate sports, keep that in mind.
hm...idea for a future run. A disobedient+berserk gene+physical sweeper only run. Would need a mod/hack to keep them disobedient after getting your 8th badge. If the hack only disables the obedience effect of the 8th badge, then you'd need to keep the pokemon constantly over your control limit for all progression(or even all trainer) fights. A perhaps easier version might be to just force disobedience on all player pokemon by default.
personally woulda started with Totodile since A) totodile's final stage, Feraligator, is literally named after 'Feral' as in 'Going feral', something comperable to going berserk. And B) Totodile learns Rage, unlike Cyndaquil and Chikorita. And while Rage's mechanics have been changed and no longer entirely vibe with the Berserk Gene's effects, the move still feels conceptually on-theme Also Feraligator could learn Surf and Waterfall. Also strength, iirc

Can you beat Pokemon Crystal except everyone is a raging alcoholic
So every oponent mon has Beserk Gene
I need you to understand the sheer stupified *stare* I had during the entire sponsor segment.
He finally escaped the sega prison
Truly one the sponsors of all time
It was originally going to be a whole performance that lasted about a minute, but everyone I showed it to said that it was way too long for a gag.
@@mawdewileSoooo.... A full version exists? 👀
@@mawdewileI was wondering what kind of sponsor it was... Turns out it's the best kind!

For some reason, never in all my years playing Pokemon have I heard about the Berserk Gene. What a fun challenge.
Might be because normally there is exactly one of it, it's consumed on use, and it is found where CERULEAN CAVE used to be, so in the *postgame*.
Your set up is on par with a friend of mine, who lies on his bed with a tv and pc to it's side.
And when i say he lies down, he literally has two pillows under his right shoulder to prop himself up enough that he can use a mouse
the editing on this is absolutely top notch
The berserk gene was mostly removed from later gens due to abilities being introduced and some abilities preventing confusion.
the solution would probably be to make the berserk gene fail if the pokemon is immune to confusion but a +2 boost is still pretty busted
they could just do what they do with abilities interacting with self-imposed drawbacks in most cases and have it ignore the immunity.

This was worth it just to see Sudowoodo pop OFF at the end there.
this ended up being even more entertaining than expected. Also, I love the mawile

38:39 His name is Blue in America, and Green in Japan, so naturally they made him red. Or orange, he looks kind of orange.

HELL YEAH A CROPPED avatar of my favorite Pokémon!! 😂
fun fact. If you send that save file to the 3DS VC versions of the game you can actually transfer the shiny you got.
the caterpie that is
WOOD MAN COMING IN CLUTCH AT THE END LETS GOOOOOOOO
The Gen 2 ai doesnt know Mud Slap has a secondary effect
I've really been wanting to play gen 2 with select held items from later games. Mostly the Loaded Dice, I really like that one.
The best sponsor he was offered
I am absolutely dumbstruck by the yassified Kyogre at 19:40. Why is it up there? Who bought it starbucks? Where does she get her hair done? I can't help but suspect I'll never know the answers to these burning questions.

Couldn't you have modified the game to not consume the berserk gene after activation?
In a technical sense, yeah, but I have no idea how read code and modify code

Wait couldnt you use items? You couldve made the challenge WAYY easier!
What even is that sponsor? Nice spoon melody, I guess? are you referencing something?
