6:20 One thing to note about Constellation: In TBD, none of the cards with that ability were enchantments themselves, unlike the first time we were on Theros.
I know. That disappointed me a little bit to see it nerfed. Constellation from original Theros was one of my favourite kitchen table type decks when I first began playing.

In the future, for sets with full art lands it would be nice to include them in the price evaluation, I know lots of people want all nyx lands for commander decks and that drives up the price a bit

Since youtube likes engagement, let me just say that I do think the Birth of Meletis was relevant in standard at the time, since it was 2 mana for an 0/4 wall to keep out the aggro deck, the two life helped there too, and the extra land meant you were more likely to hit your wrath effects on curve.
Yeah, I remember seeing a plenty in standard, I was kind of surprised at Graham's reaction to what is just a good solid card that does more or less what you wanted a two drop to do if you aren't going aggressive.
Also, Yurion was a thing, much to the dismay of aggro decks
I have strong disagreements about your thoughts on the Birth of Meletis. This made sure you hit your land drops like a boss and put a blocker onto the battlefield. High pick for me.

Birth of Meletis was definitely a higher contender in constructed formats than limited.
Since Tymaret's toughness is a CDA, it can be 0 as long as you don't have any devotion to black, which can matter for cards like Recruiter of the Guard
Note that the island is almost worth as much as the pack itself.
Also, war of the spark was still in standard when this released so feather was still legal and she enjoyed targeting your creatures with instants and sorcerys making the non keyworded heroic cards actually considerable for that deck. Dont think any made it in really though
I love graham, but the best character in this is definitely the editor
I do appreciate the idea that +1/+1 counters are the Eurydice to escape creatures' Orpheus.
While I like the art style of the Theros Lands, I have to limit myself as to which ones i can play in the same deck. Some of them look a little too close together for the color blind among us.
Fun fact, there are in fact 5 (FIVE) versions of Grim Physician printed that are 1/1 zombies for B that do a -1/-1 when they die.
Grim Physician is just a zombie and inflicts -1/-1 until EoT
Shambling Goblin and Festering Goblin are goblin zombies that inflict -1/-1 until EoT
Festering Mummy is just a zombie, but it puts a -1/-1 counter instead of an EoT effect
Shambling Ghast is also just a zombie, but you can choose between the -1/-1 until EoT or getting a treasure
Why are there two versions of the goblin variant?
Obviously, because one of the goblins is merely shambling, and the other one is festering!
Probably a flavour thing, because sometimes they want an effect but the original card printed with that has a name that doesn't quite work in the current setting - such as Dragon Fodder and Krenko's Command. Now, why a goblin on Tarkir couldn't be festering i don't know, but...
Shambling Goblin added “an opponent controls”, so that it’s harder to misclick online and so you don’t have to kill your own creature if it trades with your opponent’s last creature.

Such a shame this format physically was cut short b/c the world changed for the worse.
New Theros was a solid set, can't think of a card I didn't enjoy seeing and Escape kept you in the game even when you ran out of card draw.
Dream trawler. I lost probably every draft match where the opponent cast that.

Also, that physician reminds me of the goblin that got nerfed with the big rule change, the one that could sac itself to ping something. Yes, I'm that old.
Atris is one of my favourite cards from this era of modern magic, because it's such a good example of how pushed, interesting effects mixed with larger numbers of generic legends makes for a novel play experience. I have her in my Araumi deck and really hope someday to encore her just so that the whole table can take turns playing Atris games.

It was funny watching this yesterday and then watching Graham draft Birth in arena cube right after.
Skopho Warleader's ability is pretty funny. Tap R and sacrifice a Creature or Enchantment for +1/+0, that'd be. . .fire-and-meat-and-magicbreathing?

Small clarification on terms: unlike Bushido, where they are functionally bringing it back, on some cards, but not as an actual keyword in the upcoming Kamigawa set... Heroic was never a keyword in the first place even when it was printed on the cards - it's just an ability word (ie, "flavor text for similar mechanics"), just like Landfall or Magecraft.

I really love limited formats not only because u get to play cards that usually would be considered bad, but mostly because a lot of those cards hold fantastic jaw droping art that's forgotten to the passage of time as sets, expansions and new impactful rares are introduced to the game. Very sad to look at these cards. This set is the last set most people got to fully experience, before the pandemic messed everything up. I’m still mentally stuck there, in this prerelease, surrounded by strangers, unable to escape.
Love Theros, but felt like this could have been two smaller sets with how jam-packed it was.
Wenn ever I see Atris I am reminded of Adventure time: "i have approximate knowledge of many things."
My strongest memory of the THB prerelease is how weird the cards smelled (as graham pointed out in this video) , what did they do to the cards this set?,
i remember getting to mythic in standard and the birth of meletis would just stop my aggro deck from doing anything until i got a torbran or embercleave on the board.
I think those lands are over a buck each at this point though I may be mis remembering
I think Birth of Meletis was what White needed in the set. It was a 2 drop that made sure you hit double White on turn 3, gave you a blocker for aggro and life to make sure you didn't fall too far behind.
Any 2 Mana card that goes and gets you a land is good, most decks can play 90% of their spells with 3 Mana, so you’d basically guarantee that you have enough lands, Innistrad has a 1/1 that does that and to me it’s great

Someone cast Atris the other day against me, and hit 3 lands. That was so funny for me.
I don’t think I ever managed to trick anyone but I always put the one land face down
And yet Birth of Meletis saw a fair amount of Standard play in UW control
I think atris is so cool. One of my absolute favorite cards to play against
I have never had an opponent play Atrist and pick one card over two, no matter how I dealt it.
Don't ever call me or my friends a Nessian Hornbeetle ever again.
I have gotten my opponents to take the 2 basic lands pile many times.
Birth of Melitis was pretty good in constructed.
I had a sealed pool (in person) with 2 Atris, and I had a great time casting it many times when I played against my wife. I was very good at picking the right piles, because sometimes picking 2 lands and putting a escape card INTO the graveyard is the right call. Gentlemen, it pays to pay attention to your loving wife: it might help you win a game of magic one day lol.
I was *deeeesperately* hoping they would bring back Heroic for this set. Mostly because Heroic cards are very good for Feather, the Redeemed decks.

The goal of crack a pack is to get through the pile, right? Wouldn't it be hilarious if we all sent in more packs so they can never make progress?
Hopefully this pack actually has something good in it - The last few have been in a slump.
