This is the REAL Foghat, not the 'cover band' that's touring under the name now. One of the few bands that was actually better live than in the studio. Saw them 4 times in the 70's never disappointed.

June 4, 1977, Soldier Field, Chicago. I was one of what the Chicago Tribune said was 70,000 people (but it turned out to be more like 68K & change people) at The Superbowl of Rock The concert featured Emerson, Lake & Palmer; Foghat; the Climax Blues Band and the J. Geils Band.

Seen them many times back in the 70's and 80's. Last time I saw them was in a bar right before Lonesome Dave (guitar and vocals) and Rod Price (guitar) passed away. Rod Price plays some bad ass slide guitar too. Anything off the Stone Blue album is great.

This song was originally written by legendary blues bassist, longtime Muddy Waters collaborator and one-man classic factory Willie Dixon. For Foghat, their cover version was the lead single off their 1972 eponymous debut album, giving them some immediate traction on US radio, and they eventually grew into one of the major names on the US arena touring circuits in the mid- to late 70s. The band themselves were British in origin, but never became nearly as successful in their home country as in the US.
Three quartes of the original Foghat you see here came directly from blues veterans Savoy Brown: singer/guitarist Lonesome Dave Peverett, drummer Roger Earl and bassist Tony Stevens. They decided to leave Savoy Brown together simply because Savoy Brown were making loads of money as a touring act, but their own wages were still so low they could hardly get by (possibly because the band's manager was also main man and guitarist Kim Simmonds' brother. Savoy Brown as a band continued, however, until Simmonds' passing in 2022). Former Black Cat Bones guitarist Rod Price completed the lineup, and after getting their record deal, the newly formed Foghat wisely decided to relocate to, and mainly focus on, the US where Savoy Brown had gone down very well as a touring act. Foghat was however much heavier than Savoy Brown: certified hard rock, albeit as bluesy as they come. The original lineup lasted for four albums, after which Tony Stevens left, causing frustration for the others by suggesting that they should work less while the other three instead wanted to work even harder. They offered the vacant bass position to their producer and friend Nick Jameson, who quickly decided that the band life was not for him. But not before he had performed on their 1975 signature song, "Slow ride" - one of THE hard rock classics of the 70s.
Like most of their contemporaries, Foghat would experience dwindling fortunes and the membership changes that tend to follow. The original lineup briefly reunited in the 90s, but fell apart shortly afterwards and will now, sadly, never be seen again. Lonesome Dave Peverett and Roger Earl remained the core team for the longest time, but in 2000, Peverett sadly succumbed to cancer. Rod Price, having long since left the band and sadly battling depression his whole life, died in 2005 after having a heart attack and falling down the stairs. Roger Earl keeps the band alive to this day, in a lineup that is these days decidedly American, completed by long-time guitarist Bryan Bassett, bassist Rodney O'Quinn and singer/guitarist Scott Holt (the latter added to the fold as recently as 2022).

Spent 40 years thinking Foghat were an American Band. Their music has been used in so many American movies, I thought they were your own.
This is my favourite music clip of theirs, the build up is awesome.
Love watching your reactions all the way over here in Australia.

Anything live by Foghat will be a winner!! Slow Ride, Fool for the City, Honey Hush, Stone Blue are all bangers!! If you do Slow Ride, make sure it's the full or album version, as there is a much shorter radio cut out there.

When you did your Iron Maiden reaction I left a comment about how they're legends recognized across many industries.
To add onto that point, Dead By Daylight a horror game that has nothing to do with music just released an Iron Maiden tribute update featuring Iron Maiden costumes and their music on the title screen. This is what I meant by them being universal legends.

You have to do "Slow Ride", it's XXX, no bad language just a lot of innuendo, that will lead to it's real meaning and it isn't about a car.
