    Great build. The use of VMS products is especially appreciated. I learned a lot. The "captured" version is very clever. Many thanks.

    I think your work is stunning.
    I have always wanted to try the Metal Track and
    Pin thing..! But fear I've Missed my Window.
    Now 67yrs and with rather an Alarming Tremor, so some days I can model, Somedays 'Forget it..!'
    Those pins, even Pre Cut would go everywhere. 'Orbit' not being Beyond the Realms of Possibility..!🤣
    But I can Still model just not too Ambitious.
    Currently building the 1/35 Zvezda Sd.kfz 184. Not bad kit at all. Zvezda have improved somewhat...! Yay..!🤩
    I'm normally 'Tamiya' if Possible..!
    Great video and even better tips..!! Thank you..!
    Cheers kim in Oz. 😎

    I love the honesty in your build videos. By that I mean any mistakes or hiccups are left in and not consigned to the cutting room floor. Instead you show us how you rectified the problem. We all make mistakes or have problems with the build but you don't get to see many of them in other YT videos. Well done James. A classic build as always. Stay safe mate.

One of the flat is being sold and the solicitors are asking for a sellers pack and we are trying to put it together and a few emails that needed answering arrived and spoilt things.

    I really liked the level of chipping on this, just enough for visual interest and realism I felt. I do love a heavily chipped AFV sometimes (if it's done really well) but a part of me always knows it can't be realistic.
    Speaking of realism, the unusually large chip? I would have left it myself. I think it looked really interesting! I immediately though it made a great starting point for authentic-looking damage created e.g. when the vehicle scraped against masonry. A core of exposed steel, just the merest hint of rust and _bingo_ a Bob Ross happy accident 🙂

    Great work. Looks used and grubby but not chipped to death which you so often see these days, and which is so unrealistic. I certainly couldn't afford to double the price of a kit with metal tracks, or be bothered with all the extra work, but fortunately Tamiya now supply very neat link and length tracks in some of their new AFVs, including their latest Marder (a different version to this one) which I think are perfect for ease of building and realism. I'm hoping they include them in a future release of this particular kit as it's an interesting vehicle. Anyway, top marks for another superb build and - just as important - a nice relaxing watch!

      Hi mate !
      Well... I was building an airfix handely page hp42 and that was well beyond my remit. I'm not great with scratch or major fixes, they never end up looking right and on this the struts were ill fitting and poorly aligned.
      That was the only thing really since the start of the channel that I haven't really finished. Quite often to get a video out it needs to very something I know I can do, otherwise the gaps between videos would be too long 😀

    • @robbo1068
      @robbo1068 2 года назад

      @@lpjmodels As a kid, my friend built the HP42 kit back in the 1970s (yeah, I'm that old!) and it turned out ok. I guess that near enough was good enough back then so when things don't go to plan nowadays it becomes quite frustrating when kits don't do as they're supposed to. Makes me feel a little better knowing that even the best YT modellers have their failures. Wise suggestion....pick kits that you know you can do!👍👏

  • @MF-kv8cn

    I was thinking you maybe had a problem with the paint peeling away because of the mix, however I read that AK Real Color and MRP are both acrylic suspended in a lacquer mix or vice-versa. Tamiya XF is aycrlic in alcohol. Mr Hobby Aqueous is the same. I guess they're all interchangeable.

    • @lpjmodels
      @lpjmodels  2 года назад

      Hi mate, it was 100% a scrape, the finish is really tough. I caught the end of what I was using to chip in the paint because at that particular moment I was being a bit too vigorous and got distracted. 😀
      I used to have adhesion issues several years ago, lots of paint peeling with tape e.t.c but I ironed that out.
      Aha paint chemistry my favorite!
      Ak real colour started as a formula similar to tamiya but somewhere along the line the recipie was changed and now its pretty much a pure laquer.
      Standard mrp is pure laquer, but they have a water based version for touch ups.
      Sprue cutters union podcast have a few episodes where they go into the bear bones of the subject, the problem is paint companies aren't always transparent with their information.
      It's an interesting subject !

    • @lpjmodels
      @lpjmodels  2 года назад +1

      Hi Phil thankyou. Sorry for the late reply. I use a h&s infinity cr with a 0.15 needle and nozzle ( one of the finest sizes you can get)
      My compressor is a sparmax tc-610 h ( or very similar )
      It's about 450 for the complete set up that I use, I used an iwata sprint jet to start with, had that for 2 years and it started overheating from use, if you're going to be spraying a lot, get one with a tank. If not a constant one is fine despite what folks say.
      Airbrushes are very personal, I found the spares for h&s very affordable compared to iwata so I shifted over a few years ago, haven't looked back :)

      @@chriswegje vallejo aren't the easiest to use as a start, lots of folks have great results though.
      From the sound of it they are either too thin or you're using too much pressure.
      Get nice and close. No more than 1.5"
      lower your pressure to about 10 psi as a starting point and only move the trigger tiny amounts. You want to open the needle arpature just enough to let some paint out.
      Start tweaking as you figure your results, get speckles, add more pressure, got spidering, less pressure.
      Smooth paint but going down really dry or diffused, make sure to get close.
      If you're using a larger nozzle and needle .3-.5 you might have trouble getting really smooth graduations, you'll find some speckling on the edges.
      Certain colours are also more notorious for this than others.
      One of the reasons I moved to MRP mostly and other laquer based paints is the ease of spraying. Yes it's best to use a booth or mask or both, I use neither, and work in a well ventilated area. I figure I'm only spraying small amounts of paint so it won't be so bad.

    • @lpjmodels

      I found so far it easier to use. The first point Is the surface tension isn't quite so bad. But it is still a bit of a dark art. I havent tried it with straight tamiya properly yet but i bet it slaps.

    Sorry but the way you are using the "fast setting" on the hull is not great. applying it onto on surface then bringing together means its almost dry,not wet enough for even a "light" tack ,if you come back to apply more. Just do it once when both parts are together. might get away with small parts but noy large slabs like this.
