I really liked the level of chipping on this, just enough for visual interest and realism I felt. I do love a heavily chipped AFV sometimes (if it's done really well) but a part of me always knows it can't be realistic. Speaking of realism, the unusually large chip? I would have left it myself. A core of exposed steel, just the merest hint of rust and _bingo_ a Bob Ross happy accident 🙂

Great work. Looks used and grubby but not chipped to death which you so often see these days, and which is so unrealistic. I certainly couldn't afford to double the price of a kit with metal tracks, or be bothered with all the extra work, but fortunately Tamiya now supply very neat link and length tracks in some of their new AFVs, including their latest Marder (a different version to this one) which I think are perfect for ease of building and realism. I'm hoping they include them in a future release of this particular kit as it's an interesting vehicle. Anyway, top marks for another superb build and - just as important - a nice relaxing watch!
Thanks Ian ! I don't mind paying out the extra, its either that or buy another kit.. and I'd rather add to a project than add another project . But everyone's different mind. I won't do it for everything, but those rubber bands had to go.
Fantastic build and video, thanks! For this Marder's 76.2mm gun you can use standard German 75mm Pak 40 ammunition. The only difference was the diameter of the driving band, and 1.2mm won't make any difference in 1/35 scale.

Hi mate ! Well... I was building an airfix handely page hp42 and that was well beyond my remit. I'm not great with scratch or major fixes, they never end up looking right and on this the struts were ill fitting and poorly aligned. That was the only thing really since the start of the channel that I haven't really finished. Quite often to get a video out it needs to very something I know I can do, otherwise the gaps between videos would be too long 😀

Hi mate, it was 100% a scrape, the finish is really tough. Fantastic bit of modelling, What airbrush kit do you use and compressor? would like to know what would be best for modelling as I'm only just getting back into it after 40 years :) Many thanks
Hi Phil thankyou. Sorry for the late reply. I use a h&s infinity cr with a 0.15 needle and nozzle ( one of the finest sizes you can get) My compressor is a sparmax tc-610 h ( or very similar ) It's about 450 for the complete set up that I use, I used an iwata sprint jet to start with, had that for 2 years and it started overheating from use, if you're going to be spraying a lot, get one with a tank. If not a constant one is fine despite what folks say. Airbrushes are very personal, I found the spares for h&s very affordable compared to iwata so I shifted over a few years ago, haven't looked back :)
Overall a great build and finish James. The only thing I would have done different is add tool clamps to the tools and maybe pushed the weathering on the lower hull a bit further... but that's just me. I hate to be that guy but... I think you forgot to paint the bow machine gun.😬 Other than those minor things it turned out awesome. Looking forward to the display with figures. Cheers!

Nice one there James, Although I'm surprised you went with the older release rather than the more modern one with the length and link tracks and nice figures, i'm guessing its either been in the stash for a while or you picked it up for a good price. I hope you decide to do the Marder I and Wespe at some stage.
Well, K59 Productions has these ammo bins you've been looking for. They although had an upgrade set for the Tamiya too but not available at the moment.
@@chriswegje vallejo aren't the easiest to use as a start, lots of folks have great results though. From the sound of it they are either too thin or you're using too much pressure. Get nice and close. No more than 1.5" lower your pressure to about 10 psi as a starting point and only move the trigger tiny amounts. You want to open the needle arpature just enough to let some paint out. Start tweaking as you figure your results, get speckles, add more pressure, got spidering, less pressure. Smooth paint but going down really dry or diffused, make sure to get close. If you're using a larger nozzle and needle .3-.5 you might have trouble getting really smooth graduations, you'll find some speckling on the edges. Certain colours are also more notorious for this than others. One of the reasons I moved to MRP mostly and other laquer based paints is the ease of spraying. Yes it's best to use a booth or mask or both, I use neither, and work in a well ventilated area. I figure I'm only spraying small amounts of paint so it won't be so bad.
Lovely as always. I have found AK and Ammo chipping fluids hit and miss on some of my past projects. How would you rate the VMS chipping fluid by comparison?
I found so far it easier to use. The first point Is the surface tension isn't quite so bad. But it is still a bit of a dark art. I havent tried it with straight tamiya properly yet but i bet it slaps.
Always wanted to build this model. The problem is that i have something like 80+ kits in my stash to finish 🙈 is this problem common? :D great build by the way!
Were any of these light tank destroyers, attached to German infantry divisions? I know Hetzers were. Still not sure if Panzer Grenadier Div Grossdeutchland had any or it,s spawn divisions?
When you spray those super thin lines I guess you use very thinn paint and wery low psi. Maybe like 7 psi or maybe 10 since harder and steenbeck dont push a lot of air like the mr hobby procon.
@@lpjmodels this is common phenomenon. All russian understands that means English letter R instead of russian letter Я, but it always confusing me for a while
@@lpjmodels You wrote the Russian letter "У" /"U", instead of the Russian letter "Ц" /"C" the phrase turned out "на немУа", but it should be "на немЦа" and the model is very cool! Thank you, regards
Sorry but the way you are using the "fast setting" on the hull is not great. applying it onto on surface then bringing together means its almost dry,not wet enough for even a "light" tack ,if you come back to apply more. Just do it once when both parts are together. might get away with small parts but noy large slabs like this.

@@lpjmodels it keeps splashing to the sides and the lines are way to big
@@chriswegje what paint ?
Also are the splashes like a stipple paint or runs that are like water being pushed away from the centre point.
@@lpjmodels I use Vallejo Air paints it looks more like water pushed away
@@chriswegje vallejo aren't the easiest to use as a start, lots of folks have great results though.
From the sound of it they are either too thin or you're using too much pressure.
Get nice and close. No more than 1.5"
lower your pressure to about 10 psi as a starting point and only move the trigger tiny amounts.
As always you rock :)
Were any of these light tank destroyers, attached to German infantry divisions? I know Hetzers were. Still not sure if Panzer Grenadier Div Grossdeutchland had any or it,s spawn divisions?
I'm not sure I'm afraid !
Do you still have your every first model
No I'm afraid not. I have some photos of my first back into the hobby ( or one of )
Afv, miniart all carry 76.2 mm soviet @ells, plastic and brass, as this gun platform was paired with russian gun, Czech hull, it was a slav machine.
Thanks Rick ! I saw the miniart ones, but wasn't 100% sure they were the right ones.
👍👍👍
Thanks Robin 😀
building same model right now
How is it going ?
When you spray those super thin lines I guess you use very thinn paint and wery low psi. Maybe like 7 psi or maybe 10 since harder and steenbeck dont push a lot of air like the mr hobby procon.
Do you have a 3D printer? You could make shells and so on yourself. :)
I wish !
🤝👌👍👏
Thanks Igor 😀
why did you make such a nice little gun an evil american version?
It's russian. And because it's more interesting when it has a funky back story.
Letter Я sounds like German "ja".
Then word in prewciew sounds "majadeja 3"
Thankyou for the help !
@@lpjmodels this is common phenomenon. All russian understands that means English letter R instead of russian letter Я, but it always confusing me for a while
надпись на каком языке?
Good question. I tried to follow the refence pictures I provided.
@@lpjmodels You made a mistake. You need to write "На немца", but not "На немуа". На немца" means "(going to war) on the German"
@@lpjmodels You wrote the Russian letter "У" /"U", instead of the Russian letter "Ц" /"C"
the phrase turned out "на немУа", but it should be "на немЦа"
and the model is very cool!
Thank you, regards
Keep the good ideas going!! You could easily get more people watching with Promo'SM!!
Sorry but the way you are using the "fast setting" on the hull is not great. applying it onto on surface then bringing together means its almost dry,not wet enough for even a "light" tack ,if you come back to apply more. Just do it once when both parts are together. might get away with small parts but noy large slabs like this.
Hi Gary, it may be unorthodox but the parts haven't come apart
👍👍👍
