    Lyrics:
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
    Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
Yes, 'n' how many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
Yes, 'n' how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

Well done for realising that your family and friends need you on this earth. And then look around yourself - and see how many other people, that you don't even know - need you!!!!! Give 50 bucks to a destitute person tomorrow - see the look in their eyes - and see how that makes you feel. it's beautiful.

My very straightlaced father turned me on to Dylan in 1963, when I was 12 years old. We were riding in his car on NYC's Westside Highway, when a Dylan song came on the radio, and dad told me he thought Dylan was brilliant. To this day, I have no idea how my father even knew who Dylan was, but I will never forget the moment. I miss you, Dad.

I always interpreted the line, "the answer is blowin' in the wind", as indicating that the answer is there, we can all see it, it's tangible, but every time we reach out it just blows in the wind. We all know how to not be violent and treat each other with dignity, yet we always fail somehow, no matter how hard we seem to try.

Cathrine Berry: I agree with you, but do also remember that lots of Russian people are also victims in this. People who are affraid of living in their own country etc and people who are also excluded from various occations because of the fact that they are from Russia. Because of one man, the leader of this country. I am not so sure how I would have felt if I was excluded because of what our prime minister (I am Norwegian and there is no president here) had messed up. So when it comes to the habitans I have the sympathy. It also says that some agree with the president, but I don't know if they just say it because they are affraid, knowing the concequenses if they do the oposite. Poor people.

I wasn’t alive anywhere close when this song came out but this song is genuinely electrifying. One of those “you had to be there” moments in history. It’s a simple song yet says so much. Genius. Beautiful story teller. National treasure. From purely accustic to 'plugging in'....Bob Dylan is, was & always will be a musical pioneer. The forgotten minstrel of a generation that demanded for music to be REAL. Every now & again its gratifying to revisit this man's catalog of music. Folk, country, rock, rhythm & blues. Bob Dylan IS ONE of THE GREATS ❤

The reason this transcends time is that we humans never learn.

Dylan was described as "the voice of a generation," this being back in the 1960s and 70s. I would say that there is truth in this because his music/poetry tapped into and fed the movements of that time.
Now 50 years later, one listens and still finds relevance. Suddenly the realization hits that he is speaking beyond time and circumstance to the human condition. Words and phrases that seemed inscrutable decades ago, now are apprehended with clarity. First we see in a mirror darkly, but then we see clearly.

    With this song, Robert (Zimmerman)
Dylan assured his position as the musical poet laureate of a generation.
