At least this LR has a proper engine in it for once.

I've had both engines 3.5 and 3.9, and in my opinion the 3.5 is the better and stronger motor , no slipped liners overheating etc due to the 3.9 being bored out to within an inch if its useful life . The chevy motor of course is in a different league .

@@rockatansky1305 yes the 3.5 is the most durable engine of the bunch but i managed to break it! The slipped liner issue is inherent in the design and may even be one of or the main reason GM ditched the design and they had MANY failures in the 62 buick and oldsmobiles. Rover could buy the engine for a bargain for this reason. The first years the design was exactly the same besides some minor details like casting numbers, intake manifold and valve covers. But because of the low production numbers the inherent flaws were unnoticed or ignored and it was with the SD1 when the engines were improved (known as the Post-SD1 blocks). They didnt suffer nearly as much failures as the earlier blocks. And those are the best as far as i know.
The chevy is just the most sensible performance upgrade and im still very happy with it. Sure i can put a 4.6 rover but its a game of russian roulette when it comes to reliability which the chevys dont have.
