the one thing that was a red flag is her corset hurting even after wearing it many times, it should never hurt and most people do not tight lace, and if constructed to your measurements it won't hurt.
@@キラキラ蛇 Usually they aren't given enough time to custom-fit a corset and the actor won't be given time to break it in before they start filming in it. It's not entirely the designer's fault.
I've just binge watched season 3, and I kept rewinding, just to have a good look at their costumes, the set, the pictures hanging on the wall.....it's fascinating! Lol
The costume designer thinks Nandor is from Eastern Europe when he has an entire episode dedicated to being from a kingdom in southern Iran that has now dissolved, and another episode where his human ghost speaks nothing but Persian, and another where they literally go to the Iranian border to get soil from his homeland ...
@@joshrobertson3187 Fair enough though his character/actor is in the same clip and has distinctively southern Iranian costume pieces like the pointed leather cloaks. It's just funny as I keep seeing people confused about where he's from despite him having several episodes making it clear!
I think maybe it's cause before specifying exactly where he's from they had just stated his place of origin was somewhere in the Ottoman Empire (Which had occupied various parts of Iran to varying degrees of success.) and so she probably googled where that was, saw that the capital was Constantinople/Istanbul for much of it's history and thought "Oh so he's Eastern European" without actually looking any further into it.
Whyyy do costume designers keep squeezing actresses into tight-laced corsets? Just let them wear one that fits and isn't too tight and they should be fine! We have so many misconceptions about past undergarments because of how actresses are forced to wear costumes in an inaccurate way! I really love the costumes from this show but the corset thing really gets to me.
Given that the character of Nadja is always so wrapped up in layers of clothing and capes and ruffles, I don't think a corset is even necessary most of the times
Because the vast majority of costume designers know next to nothing about corsetry (it's complex enough to be its own field) and don't even think to get them custom made by a proper corsetier. And this woman thinks Iran is in Eastern Europe, so I wouldn't expect she researched how to outfit the actress with a well fitted corset. The end product looks great, just wish it didn't cause the actress pain.
at least they ditched the corsets after season one so Tash can now breathe, after all Nadja always has these big dresses I don’t see how a tight corset is needed
If it helps, I’m in Grad School studying Costume Design and they are introducing us to the art of corsetry and how to properly fit them onto performers! :)
I fell in love with this show before it even aired its first episode. I was smitten by the commercial trailers. At the end of the first episode, I was hoping against hope it would last three seasons. As we all know, sometimes the best of shows get canceled for the worst of reasons. And now five years later here we are at the end. Twice as long as I ever could have hoped, and yet I still feel cheated. What a wonderful ride this has been. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.
I'd you can't breath in a corset it's a badly made and fitted corset . Unfortunately if you want them to function as they should you usually have to make the custom to your size and shape
I think it's funny they said they got the same costume designer as the movie, because in this show the costumes are so beautifully designed and over the top but in the movie it rly looks like they got all the outfits from a vintage thrift store lol☺
But in episode 8, Nandor says his country was in southern Iran. He also said at one point that he was an Ottoman...but Iran was not part of the Ottoman Empire.
He says that he was in southern Iran when he was still human, so I'm working under the assumption that one of the places he lived afterwards was the Ottoman Empire.
One interesting thing is the Battle of Ankara was in 1402 where it sent the Ottoman Empire into disarray and into a dispute between Bezayid's sons for succession. Nandor's country of origin was dissolved in 1401, so it's almost like he attacked the Ottoman Empire in retaliation with his own army if you think about it
So many people dress according to their peak. How many middle aged people have 30 year old fashion and hair. My great aunt who is 86, turns her doo into a 1967 hair helmut and dyes it copper colour. Her husband only wears brown suits.
The costume designers did a brilliant job you can recreate what they were with a little imagination at the correct gothic stores the way lazlo dresses is so similar to my own dress sense it's crazy
Nadja must have that necromancer friend of hers resurrect all the era's (literally all eras lol) best tailors and dressmakers in order to keep herself, Laslo and friends in the sartorial splendour to which they've become accustomed. A corsetiere who makes corsets for tightlacing can design pieces in which one can not only breath well, but also achieve the hourglass shape that the fashion dictates...great foundation creates a fabulous display!
But why in the photos and paintings from their past are they dressed in clothes of those times, and now they wear clothes from when they were in their prime as humans?
As someone who enjoys dressing in a style that was popular 30 years ago, sometimes you find a fit and just stick with it. You can try other things, but you get to a point where you're just like "I like this the most. I'll just wear this style forever." I imagine vampires are the same.
I didnt get a good impression if the costume designer despite the outfits looking great. Doesn't know where her characters are from despite apparently heavily reasearching and her idea of "freedom" and "flamboyance" is shoving a woman in an unnecessary and badly fitting corset.
I liked everything up until the actress for Nadja repeated the same bullshit about corsets. She would be more comfortable if she had a properly fitted corset and not a costume cincher made by a costumer designer, not a professional who makes corsets. Corsets are not nearly as uncomfortable as they make it seem.

Scott Schofield the best part is that NOBODY else does it lmao
